I liked it better when Sigil was clear on their vision with a "take it or leave it" attitude. This backsliding, if you want to call it that, isn't fooling anyone. It has been clear, and still is clear, that Vanguard will very much be an EQ-esque game, and frankly, there is nothing wrong with that.
Sure you can solo, and some folks may even like to solo in this game. Sure you can play it casually. And sure, if you want to do those two things, you can forget about 80% of the game.
Vanguard isn't going to be for everyone. Frankly, it has always looked like it wouldn't be for me. I have yet to decide if i would buy it. I might try open beta, given the opportunity.
But if it's not for you, well, move on. This is going to be a very good game, even if it isn't right for a lot of folks.
From what Ive seen and and heard of the game so far, I cant wait for its release. And as long as you dont need 40 man raids to do anything once you reach max level, which I assume you dont, as Im sure there's a lot more to do than raiding in this game once you reach max level, then I'm happy.

You know that. I know that. Brad knows that. That's why I protest the new we love the casuals, our game is for everyone bs marketing push. Someday, 6 months from now, I hope people remember this "truth" thread and decide for yourselves if it's the truth.

I for one can't wait for this game. I'd beg for an invite, but I realize you've been asked about a half million times.
You can always tell when a game's in trouble when it starts using the 800lb gorilla (WoW) to explain/justify/market itself.
Sorry, not buying it this time. You suckered me once. Won't happen again. When you get to a place where 'next generation' doesn't mean shaders and graphics they don't even make systems that can yet display, and when the mechanics aren't all based on the mantra of infinite loyalty to the Red Queen, maybe then... of course, I'm not holding my breath.
The only truth here is that this game is no different or better than any other of the 'carrot and stick' crap being set out here. Damn sad when an entire industry is so busy killing its own longevity in the name of the fast buck.

If they were doing this for a fast buck they would have RUSHED Vanguard out onto the shelves by now, and fixed it up after a few months it has been out... sorta like EQ2. But they didn't heck they won't have this game completed till around marchish next year.
Which would put it on a 4 year dev cycle. That honestly does not sound like a fast buck, but don't forget Sigil has FULL CONTROL over Vanguard, so SOE will not be able to force them to release the game.

From all I can see, it's just the same tired mechanics in a pretty, new candy shell. For those like me who actually want to see progress beyond Red Queen mechanics and the developer/publisher search for the holy grail of a three year subscriber forecast (as opposed to the possible lifetime one, for example), it remains a profound disappointment.
This is one of the ones to watch, the team has pedigree, the design philosophies and aims are all far better developed than most other MMO's current or close to release, and Sony is only pressing the boxes and providing the servers - both of which they do quite adequately, not controlling the game dynamics, which is reassuring.

I used to defend VG but they passed me over on beta for CGM people=p I'm really getting worried about VG. The NDA breaking is consistent in text. The game is far enough along where the systems in place will not be changed just tweaked. I'm not sure it's enough from what I have heard. I was planing on buying VG on release but I lost a lot of faith in Brad after the way he handled the CGM mess. I'm gonna give this game a few months now before i buy if I ever buy.
I'm surprised and impressed that Brad posted in here. I'm happy to see his involvment in the community. I've been following this game for awhile now and it's the best thing I can see on the horizon. Will the game be perfect? No Are there things I'd like to see done differently? Yes. Do the graphics look lifeless thus far? Yes, I hope this most of all changes before release.
These faults being said there are only a small handfull of games on the market or in development that show the promise that Vanguard does. I'll be getting it when it's released and while I dfeinitely agree there's a chance I'll be disappointed with it, I'm willing to give it a chance to win me over, which is much more than I can say about all those naysayers who trash the game and anything Brad has to say just to boost their little ego's.
I don't see anything wrong with any upper management (even C level) coming to the community and posting. If you did nothing then you would be hanged by one set of people, if you do by another. While I don't subscribe to the haters (there seem to be some in every game) I also don't listen much to the FANatics.
There have been plenty of games that looked AWESOME based on FAQ's, videos, forum posts, your friends roomates girfriends uncle who knows it all, etc... but which did not delivery what they promised. I still remember the rabid forum fans on Shadowbane, DnL, DDO, L2, SoR (to name a few). Even b4 they've seen one ounce of the final product it was uberl33t game. I don't really care what is said or promised by anyone about a game, I care about what is actually delivered. Is the game fun? Is it challenging? Is there a strong sense of community? Can I solo?
As a hardcore casual player (10-20 hours/wk) I never expected to be able to get my epics solo, I never expected to see all the encounters just in a single group. But I never did have much time for these massive raids with the mechanics that were in these games. Way too much time and effort for very little gain/fun. As much as I enjoy grouping and some raiding I spend most of my time solo. If a game does not provide "fun" content for me to solo at all stages then its not for me.
IMHO the golden grail of games was the original EQ (early years). Despite the huge time commitments, the pointless camping, the harsh death penalty, the silly time sinks, it had a great sense of community. You would have to try really hard NOT to make friends. Since I leveled pretty slowly by the time I got past 50 the game had stopped being fun. I did not have the ridiculous amounts of time required just to get ready and in position to start having "F U N". challenging content is one thing, boring meaningless busy work is another. Despite what anyone over there said the game was totally geared towards the raider and particularly towards the large raiding guilds. So I moved on. And based on the numbers so did alot of other people (I won't get into the hideous treatment we suffered from SoE). Game was crap by the end anyway.
While I really want to like Vanguard, having been burned by SOE more then once really makes me hesitant to touch anything that is in any way associated with SOE. Sure Vanguard could actually be a good game and get 500K subs. But there are plenty of games coming out in the next year or so and not all of them are going to be bad. I am having a hard time believing how they will be able to balance the challange from the tedium. Most likely I will not buy Vanguard at release, if there is an open beta I'll give it a whirl though just to see what its like. After release I'll read the reviews and get a consensus of opinions then I'll re-eval.

I myself am looking foreward to it and I will either love it or hate it , no comment on that till after I HAVE USED IT....
Would it be so so wrong to tag the trolls and hunt them down in game because you know full well despite all the B/S and hatred and half truths they spew the fact they post so much is a clear sign they will play the game ,please Sigil my only suggestion of game play is to make thosepeople have chars that glow neon pink but they cant see it themselves only other players , so we can point and laugh knowingly..

If you read the items he linked instead of dismissing them offhand, you would realized that ALL of those concerns are addressed and debunked quite handily, unless you're some conspiracy theorist. Those people still think the twin towers were taken down by demolition crews, even though Osama and his pals claimed responsibility for it. If Osama didn't do it and thought the american government did it, wouldn't he tell the american people so they would distrust their government?
Same goes for your logic. You think Brad and Sigil are just lying about the fact that there is solo content. You will find out when you are playing the game at release. See you in game jonaku, hopefully on the PVP server.
I will gladly pay to see that PvP event , the posioned troll smack down hmmmm
I've been following Vanguard for a few years now up until the merger with SOE. Yes, I'm one of the burned "never to buy a Sony product again" customers.
Thanks for clearing up a lot of the rumors that have been floating around the internet regarding the involvement of SOE with Sigil and Vanguard, but I must say... I still won't be playing your game.
I'm sure you realized before your decision to be involved with them, that you would experience a marked loss in the anticipation of your game. Although I know SOE will only be marketing, hosting and handling in game tech support, that's more than enough for a lot of people to stay away.
I know that part of my subscription dollars would go into SOE's pockets, and I'm not about to let that happen again. I'm not sure if the in game support/GM's are going to be SOE or Sigil, but I suggest that you use someone else other than SOE's. Their in game GM's have to be some of the rudest people I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The one experience that sticks out in my head the most was trying to get an appeal thru for the loss of an item. The CSR answered my appeal incorrectly and closed it. When I appealed again and asked that it be kept open until I had a chance to respond, another GM closed the appeal and threatened that if I opened a third appeal with the same subject matter, that it would be considered CSR HARRASSMENT. I will not do business with a company that treats it's customers like that. I'm in business too.. and if I *ever* treated one of my customers like that, I would have hell to pay for.. and I should. Good customer service is ESSENTIAL in success.
I'm sure you're well aware of the consequences of partnering with a not so well liked entity in the world of MMORPG's. While I wish you, Sigil and Vanguard success, I still have to express my disappointment in the fact that you decided to partner with SOE to begin with. Many of us were looking forward to Vanguard as an alternative to playing a game that involved them, but that's water under the bridge now.

Brad,
I've been following Vanguard for a few years now up until the merger with SOE.
