    MANBEARPIG!!!

    But seriously....

We just had a pretty big flood event in my state and some loopies were linking it to global warming... Well fortunately a prominent scientist who doesnt mind taking a contrary stance has reported that there have been many much larger events in the past 1000 years that obviously had nothing to do with so called global warming... They found exactly the same with the recent drought.... that a much larger one wiped out most of Australia's Mega Fauna around 8000-12000 years ago. Not much carbon emitting industry around back then folks...

Personally I find the notion of making statements about a system as complex as planetary climate based on around 10,000 years of records (out of 4 billion) to be naieve at best and basically stupid at worst.... but that never stopped anyone....

    Additionally.....

China brings on line a new black coal fired power station about every 5 days... and registers 55000 new vehicles per day. Go ahead and turn your airconditioner down and feel guilty about your new fridge.... its not changing anything....

I think you are making the extremely common mistake of assuming that we humans amount to much when it comes to this planet's core systems.

Newsflash #1 for you, the planet goes through warm and cold phases, quite without our intervention, and in spite of anything we could possibly attempt to prevent it. The last warm phase we had was a major factor in keeping Europe in the dark ages, and occured well before anyone had a bloody clue what the hell CO2 might have meant.

Newsflash #2 us humans collectively give off nearly as much CO2 as all burned forms of fossil feuls today. grazing animals such as beef cattle collectively give off many times more. To prevent the buildup of greenhouse gases, killing off our major food supplies and performing acts of massive genocide to cover the shortage would get us to where we "need" to be a hell of a lot faster.

Oh, incidently, you probably don't remember this, but not too long ago, the doomsayers were telling everyone that pollution was causing global cooling.

And incidently, do you have a solution to our power problems? Because as of right now, the only thing that would effectively solve the issue instead of causing many more problems is to replace fossil fuel plants with nuclear reactors. I can tell you one thing, I know which one I would rather have next door, and I know which the average american would rather have, and the two are not the same.

Hydrogen powered cars are probably the way of the future in terms of vehicles, but you need a major source of electricity to seperate the water molecules into usable components. If that electricity comes from a fossil fuel plant, what good have you done?

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

I heard a really good suggestion to counterbalance global warming.

In the oceans there are several "dead" regions where not much grows.  One theory is that these areas are dead because of a lack of iron in the area.  So a scientist added some iron to the water and it caused an algae bloom.  The idea is by adding iron to these dead areas, algae would bloom, produce a bunch of oxygen (and thus trap some carbon from carbon dioxide), die, settle at the bottom of the ocean, and effectively trap the carbon so that it's removed from the carbon cycle.  And this was suggested to be a very cheap way of counteracting the human effect of global warming, since the algae only needs trace amounts of iron, so a little bit goes a long ways.

Fossil fuels _are_ going to get burned.  There's nothing that will stop that.  The only thing we can do is trap the carbon before it enters the atmosphere from these fossil fuel burning plants or find a way to counteract the carbon entering the atmosphere.  We're already doing the former, but it's not enough.  The latter has a possible choice, we just need to push the button, so to speak.  At the very least do studies to make sure we don't screw things up worse in other ways by dumping iron into the water.

Global Warming is a myth. Prove to me that it exists and that humans not only are causing said myth but can fix it.

The planet's weather changes. Get over yourself and take that poster of AL Gore off your bedroom door.

Global warming is not a myth, every scientist agrees that it is happening as we speak. Real argument is whether man is causing it, or can we do anything to stop it.

I think we cause it to happen little faster but that there is really nothing we can do to stop it.

Global warming will help us resolve one problem thou, overpopulation. When oceanlevels really start to rise, you can bet theres going to be refugees from every corner of the world, which will cause famine, wars there, pandemias here.. --population will go down.

Every scientist in Greenpeace and AL Gore believe in Global Warming but not everyone in the scientific community agrees that it is fact. Nobody can prove that human's are the cause of bad weather which is what Global Warming and the whole disscussion boils down to- Bad Weather.

I agree 100% with that. its the reason I don't even bother, it won't have any effect on it anyway.

Whether we are contributing to the obvious changes in climate.... who knows..

Fortunately all the things we can do to make ourselves feel better dont hurt..

Preventing Global would mean quite a few things humans dont seem capable of yet:

    1. We'll need to follow the teachings of Ghandi, put aside our differences, governments, etc. and combine our efforts into one, this would likely mean the end of the idividual country, a new language would probably be needed as a primary language everyone could speak would be GREATLY helpful.

    2. We'd have to divert alot of money from other research and departments, the greatest sufferer would be the military, and put all that moeny into a single united research branch concentrated on cleaner industrial alternatives.

    3. Theres no way in hell a democracy could do this, we'd need a Global Republic.

As you can see, this sounds hard even paper, right now it would be nigh unto impossible to actually DO it.

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Every scientist who specializes in global warming said that Al Gore's movie was a complete and utter joke and that anyone who believes it is a moron. (more or less for the second part)

Here's the question of the day.

How many morons can you count in this thread?

Yes, it's wiki, but it has many valid links.

Hmmm..... Seems like it got WAY more reviews saying it's total bullshit, than it has good reviews. :-/
