Preventing Global would mean quite a few things humans dont seem capable of yet:
1. We'll need to follow the teachings of Ghandi, put aside our differences, governments, etc. and combine our efforts into one, this would likely mean the end of the idividual country, a new language would probably be needed as a primary language everyone could speak would be GREATLY helpful.
2. We'd have to divert alot of money from other research and departments, the greatest sufferer would be the military, and put all that moeny into a single united research branch concentrated on cleaner industrial alternatives.
3. Theres no way in hell a democracy could do this, we'd need a Global Republic.
As you can see, this sounds hard even paper, right now it would be nigh unto impossible to actually DO it.
Please read the Stern report. Please.

Just to highlight this part, Razorback. The extinction of the Australian megafauna has been linked also to them being hunted to death by the Australian Aboriginals. A lot of the animals in questions started to disappear after the arrival of the Aboriginals from SE Asia 40-50000 years ago.
In fact, of all "indigenous groupings" in the world, the Aboriginals were responsibile for more extinctions than any other.

Global warming and the role of mankind there in is indesputable. The issue isn't the viability of the Stern Review.
I never said humans weren't effecting it, no matter how little. I don't think they are 100% to blame, but we are to blame.
What I'm debating is the speed of it. Al Gore's movie was based off the Stern Report. If you actually sat down and read it, then you would realize both are talking about another ice age with in our lifetimes. And both of them use "facts" that do not exist.

I read the original text of the Stern Review. Hell, I watched it be presented live on TV.
1) The Stern Review was finished over a year after the launch of Al Gore's movie.
2) Even before the movie came out Al Gore was touring for a long time with his presentation.
3) The Stern Review isn't a conclusion on research, it's a proposal for an apropriate economical response to control the damage.
4) It doesn't say there is an ice age coming... Why not read the Stern Review?
I read the full thing in PDF. It was finished after Al Gore's movie.
Dude, first you say the report was first, then that the movie was first...
So now you're saying that the Stern Review was based on some movie (probably the first time you even heard of global warming)...
So you're also saying that the UK government (and partly the EU) are funding massive reforms that will cost trillions on a simple movie? Yes, sure. Wow, you're making yourself look really smart.

No, I'm saying it was finished after the movie. How long was he writing it though? Parts of it have been published for YEARS.
Glad to see you know about what you're debating though.
If you are concerned about global warming as me. you will understand that we can do something about it.
save the world from global warming. Please consider.
This whole global warming is BS. Global Warming is just a hoax perpetrated by environmental extremists and liberals who want an excuse for more big government.
The vast bulk of the Earth’s surface isn’t inhabited, despite the fact there are six billion humans extant. Humans and other animals’ lives depend on the oxygen we breathe. We exhale carbon dioxide. The Earth’s vegetation benefits from the carbon dioxide as the essential element it requires for growth. And yet there are people in government and elsewhere that will tell you that CO2 is a greenhouse gas or even a “pollutant” that is bad for the Earth.
Also, climate change is caused by factors such as solar activity, the heating or cooling of the oceans, cloud formation and activity, and volcanic activity. Human beings have absolutely no “control” over these climate factors.
Global warming is a classic scare campaign and we may well be witnessing its last desperate gasps
as more and more scientists step forward to debunk it.
I just bought a nice big SUV and put straight drag pipes on my chopper.....does that help?
I wouldn't call global warming a hoax perpetrated by anyone. It does have some factual basis. Still, it's not quite the OMFG, moral panic!, action stations! that some folks would have you believe.
And water vapour is the largest contributor to greenhouse gases.
Get abunch of cows, feed them alot of stuff that makes them fart. Harvest the farts, compress and liquefy it and use it to power our cars!

El Nino was just a few years ago. That's a 50-100yr storm. Look at all the old "record heat" and "record lows"....... OMG! whaddya know. It's around the last El Nino!
Simple Explanation of Global Warming: People forget alot quicker than the earth.
Seems that 80-90% of people who replied to this thread either don't belive in global warming or won't do anything about it. With this little support on these fourms, think how little support global warming is getting outthere in the world. Ok maybe some people are recycling and "trying" to burn less gas but it will take a long time for those effects to help repaire the Oozone layer.
I hope this thread is representative of the number of people who are researching this issue deep enough to know it is complete junk. Seems like the majority are seeing thru the global warming scam. Its is nothing but scare tactics used to sell news papers.
With recent temperature "drops" in various locations around the US (snow in downtown Phoenix) many fearmongers are now changing the wording from "warming" to "climate change."

Well, feel free to provide hard evidence. So far, little has been forthcoming. There's been a lot of emotional button pushing and tugging at heartstrings, pictures of giant pandas and oil-covered penguins for propaganda, but little hard fact.

MANBEARPIG!!! But seriously.... We just had a pretty big flood event in my state and some loopies were linking it to global warming... Well fortunately a prominent scientist who doesnt mind taking a contrary stance has reported that there have been many much larger events in the past 1000 years that obviously had nothing to do with so called global warming... They found exactly the same with the recent drought.... that a much larger one wiped out most of Australia's Mega Fauna around 8000-12000 years ago. Not much carbon emitting industry around back then folks... Personally I find the notion of making statements about a system as complex as planetary climate based on around 10,000 years of records (out of 4 billion) to be naieve at best and basically stupid at worst.... but that never stopped anyone.... Additionally..... China brings on line a new black coal fired power station about every 5 days... and registers 55000 new vehicles per day. Go ahead and turn your airconditioner down and feel guilty about your new fridge.... its not changing anything....

We can not prove that humans or our effect n the enviroment is causing global warming with empiracl data. We really can't. Ask any serious scientist.
Don't get me wrong though on this topic because any of the guesses as to what may be causing global warming should be stopped (or at least slowed down) as soon as possible. It really does not matter if pollution is causing global warming if we should reduce it since we do know it is causing cancer and respritory issues. Petrol combustion engines may add to global warming, but we need to change fules since oil reserves are not infinate.
If global warming is real or not does not really matter since all the "possible" causes are hideous bad for the world and its populatin anyway.
I don't have a car and will never buy any. This is FAR more than my fair share.
Now, I will just go away and let's peoples solve this, because I see no reason why I should bother or consider this my problem, in fact, the next step would be to destroy cars at random! Pretty sure nobody want me to do so, so I will refrain, and let's folks solve their problems. I did my part, a LOT more than 99,5% of NAers. Not my problem anymore. If we all died, I will have a clear conscience with the exception that maybe I should have start blowing cars at random!
Even my Greenpeace friends find it hard to argue with me...as many of them polute a LOT more than me! Not going to turn down the heat, or to argue against hydro-electric, both of these are necessary and as long as the US will get electricity throught Nuclear/Burning, I am going to promote hydro-electricity as much as possible, any electricity they get that way is something not burned, nuclear not used! My garbages are already small and limited, not going to bother with them either. So again, global warming is not my fault nor my problem, at worst we all died! And don't get me started on the industry and various companies! They are the MAIN cause.
PS: To all naysayers, okay, just look at the smog and tell me we ain't screwing things. We are polluating everything, starting with our houses and our kids.

Like most problems, by the time the governments admit there is a problem it's far too late. Since they're finally admitting it this means you can all kiss your butts goodbye. Anyone living within a few miles of the coastline should learn how to pray while holding your breath and trying to tread water. The rest of you will be even worse off when the new ice age returns since all shipping will have been destroyed along with crops and you're going to find that all your "space age" materials aren't worth a fart in a windstorm when it comes to keeping you warm. So keep driving your cars and making that hole in the sky a little bit bigger (while denying to yourself that your actions are so small that it just doesn't matter) (btw I'm a bicyclist).
As for me I'm going to find someplace real high and build a house from the millions of skulls left laying around after you all drown and freeze to death.
