Tallon are you wishing to format without making a backup? If so, in windows (easiest way) right click on the selected drive in "My Computer" and select format.

If you have DOS, go to the drive prompt you wish to format. Ie. C:>.  Type: Format C: hit the Enter key and go form there.

If backups are required, you can use Zip drives, Burn to a CDROM, transfer to a different drive on the network (if you have one).

Let me know what you're wanting to copy and where to so I can help you with the software or commands.

well ok i got some questions. If i format, do i have to reinstall windows? and can't u only use windows once. also, i would like to back up. Someone told me that its good to reformat a brandnew hardrive... But i wont have to do it for a while. Wich brings me to another question, how do i install windows on a hardrive with no os. I only have 1 120gig hd. Thnx

If you format a drive in DOS it will have nothing left. Nothing. It is vitally important you make a Windows Startup Disk or something. Heck, I had to use the DOS copy.exe program just to move stuff from the disk to the hard drive! :P

Restores dick making is via add / remove , windows  section .

TallonX I have acouple of quick questions for you. First, what brand of HDD do you have? What version of Windows are you trying to install? And what is the reason for the reformat? I have tons of experience in this so if there's anything you need to know just ask.

    mk, heres my info:

Seagate 120GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive

    Windows XP

Friend told me it was good for the computer.

Also, i have another question, since i don't want to spend $400 for a freakin OS, is there any way to get it cheaper?

Ok, if you really want to wipe your HDD here is a link to what you need for you drive:

    http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/drivers/discwiz.html

Now with Windows XP, since you've already installed it, once you format you drive, all you have to do is re-istall it. The first time, when you registered the program, it sent you hardware configuration to Microsoft, to activate the software. When you re-install it, it will either re-install, ask you some questions, or give you a phone number to call to activate it again.

Lastly, your friend may or may not be correct, it depends on if you are having problems with the HDD or your systems is slow. But just to do it, is NOT a good reason.

No problem, just remember you don't necessarily have to reformat your hard drive. Does your system or the drive have any problems?

Got a question, lol, sorry if this has already been asked, as I'm really not in the mood to surf through 1515 posts :P.

So I need to find out how many watts my power supply is, so I dug into my computer to check, and I didn't see anything. Is there a different way to find out how many watts my power supply is, or would I have to contact my computer manufacteror for that? Or perhaps I am looking in the wrong section of the computer or something, any help would be nice, thanks.

If you were wondering, it's for seeing if I can use the Radeon 9800 Pro :P.
