My WoW guild now requires a vent interview to join

I joined this guild just because of this. My other wow guilds im tryin to talk into requiring it as well.

I think it's a really good idea.

I want to know who is really a guy or a girl and who is faking being a girl.

Plus by asking just a few simple questions you can learn a lot about their maturity and how serious the person is toward helping the guild or if they are just joining for free phat lewt.

I think using voice chat is a must nowadays in mmorpgs,

if you're a serious gamer.

What is really funny---

I asked my LOTRO guild leader to begin voice interviewing players interested in joining our guild.

I figured that LOTRO even has voice chat built in game so it might be a good idea.

Everyone in my guild was totally against it though,

and thought i was being really weird to the point they all got angry at me.

It was weird cause almost everyone in the guild uses voice chat.

I like voice chat. I think that it is way waaay better then having to type all the crap and read the chat box all the time.

The advantages to using voice is so much compared to not using it for raids and pvp.

I think players who are so dead against using it to the point where it actually offends them need to get with the times.

I think in many cases players who refuse to JUST TURN ON voice chat( just to listen)are so so selfish,

especially when it's a feature that is built into the game.

What's the big deal?

Why is it so hard for some people just to talk?

Why? Because we're enjoying the game.

Is it fun when youre some old guy playing a female char trying to get free stuff?

Is it fun for you to be so selfish and make people stare at their chat logs all the time?

It's not that hard to talk.

Why is it such a big deal?

This isnt 1995,some of you players should at least try to not be so negative toward voice chat.

I wouldn't ever pvp with you that's for sure.

Lol i played in a guild that beat of all wows pve content and i know I wouldnt have even considered them if they required some vent interview. If they are good at their class they can join, if not too bad. Unless your guild is FOH or something no one is going to take your guild seriously.

When I'm killing trolls that are 3 times my size, and a dwarf runs up, I want to imagine him with a gruff voice, not some little 13 year old who hasn't hit puberty yet squealing in my ear. No thank you.

Don't you think it's a good idea to get to know a person just a little first?

Instead of just randomly spamming guild invites to players and hoping they fit in and are the type of person you want to be friends with?

I think it's a good idea for those who like to raid. For me I don't raid and I don't take games that seriously anymore. It's to much of a hassle and too time consuming. If you like to do it and others don't mind the militarian structure of the guild great for you guys. For me I'm not interested in joining an army run by immature people. I just want to play the game and have fun. Hopefully raiding will be abolished one day. If you need voice chat for PvP something is wrong IMO.

I think voice is crucial for pvp,unless you are just solo ganking low levels or something.

Also,about taking raids too serious, i don't buy that at all.

I think it has nothing to do with taking playing too serious,

it's just about communicating easier,especially when it helps everyone else in the guild.

I am member of hardcore roleplay guild (kinship) in LOTRO

Any talk about real name, job,age,sex,nationality or anything else is frowned upon.It really breaks the immersion.

I dont want to know who and what are you in RL , i want to know who you are in game.

This is why we never use voice chat.

But this is the case for RP guild. I could see it being useful in pvp guild

There's usually some douche that has heavy metal or techno music that is blaring whenever he tries to talk. Also, people with young kids have yelling and crying going on that tends to piss people off.

Ok I guess using voice for rping would be bad, and if you're a serious rper then it could ruin your immersion or w/e.

I think hardly any roleplays anymore or at least ALL the time.

Id suggest to a roleplaying guild they could use voice once in a while,it could be like an OOC guild channel to help with raids.

Hey your welcome to your own opinion like I said. If you enjoy endgame then your welcome to it. I enjoy the journey and then I usually stop playing the game. Then there is no need to get involved in the silly stuff that takes place at endgame.

There is such a fine art to well crafted text chat that you have never experienced nor can appreciate apparently. (which is surprising because if you are like my teen age son at all, you spend 1/2 your day sending text messages instead of calling folks on your cell phone)

It's not that hard to talk. Nor is it that hard to type, read and play games at the same time, just takes a bit of practice and skill

Honestly, I hate speaking to humans over the telephone, I so prefer email or instant message to it.(or face to face) In games, I don't need to hear your voice, I'll probably hate it anyways, since you won't sound like a dwarf, gnome or hot female elf like I'm imagining in my head. From a role-playing perspective, voice chat fails.

I actually use voice chat, when I'm forced to, but don't see your viewpoint about using it to interview new members. You couldn't tell me any more about a player using it than you can from a well crafted on-line application in a forum.... the real proof of any players measure is how they perform in game with your guild, which requires a trial period (the test of time as it were) to see how things turn out.

I wouldn't ever pvp with you that's for sure. Heh... you're probably not good enough to anyways, and besides, who says I'd even want you to..... I doubt you're my type.

Im not against vent but im also not against people who dont like to use vent. Some people dont like to talk in vent, for their own reasons, mabye they dont speak very good English and are afraid they will be made fun of and some simply want to play the game for what it is and dont want to hear the other players talk about what they had for lunch or what their dog left behind in their room and some dont want to know the other peoples RL names.

Now Vent does make things easier in raids because the raid leader can givei nstructions much easier but you simply cant force people into a voice interview for crying out loud they only do that when you apply for a job. Whats next you get an interview with the GL and all the Officers and they ask you if you are mature?

An application works fine for recruitment I think, its like a resume, you post your past experiences your build class etc.

You dont need to interview people to know if they can or can't play their class.. or if they will fit in. Most guilds allow prospects to raid with them for a while to see if they are worth inviting.

I love grouping in games, but quite frankly I dislike voice chat.

Play any popular game with voice chat via PC or console and you'll understand why I'm against it...

Everyone has a voice and it always seems that people feel screaming curse words, singing off key, eating next to the mic, and talking on their phones without turning off their mic...

I don't join guilds that require voice chat, and to be honest I don't join guilds that require a interview for that matter.

Vent is for FPS games not MMORPG's where you are RPing a charater, thats the RP part in the name btw, if someone plays a charater its alot harder to do with some crying teen screaming at them because the did'nt cast the right spell at the right time or miss a pull.

The game is about having fun, seriously try to have some.

If your group wipes on a raid BIG DEAL, you can do it again its not like it cost you anything but a bit of pride.

If you truly want to be a Serious gamer please get a squad togther and come play BF2 or some other squad based game where Vent is used to its full, you will find all its used for is listening to what your squad leader tells you to do and then a short reply to show you understand.

Also plz take a look at alot for MMO sites about guilds most say that if you have to interview or write and essay on why you what to join the (Carebears of Doom) then they need to stop taking it all so serious and relax, that or start a business.

(weird question do you require referances, and do mothers count?)

If you have read the handbook on proper mmorpg etiquette; i know A LOT of players that havent read it or dont care to.

Despite this having been responded too alot I'll do it too.
Why? It was directed at me and.. Well.. I'm bored.

Simply put:
We've never wiped because of me not being on vent. Ever.
Why? Because I'm the best healer the guild ever had, I'm self-sufficient, I adapt and I keep my eyes open. Refer to football (soccer) or double-tennis/badminton/pingpong. (or ANY sport you can think of, also theater, stage-fighting and aloooot of other things) For some *odd* reason I don't think you know how it works.
But verbal communication is in no such case the deciding factor. It's never ever any need of verbal communication in a fully functioning group. It's all about knowing eachother and functioning as a GROUP and not a bunch of individuals.
So, again, vent has NEVER been the deciding factor in any raid I've attended to.

No, WHEN / IF I'm an old guy playing a female char to get free stuff, vent will be a killer for me.
As for OTHERS doing it to me: I've never made any difference on gender. I'm a kind person and give of what I don't need no matter what gender people are, it's a matter of personality.

Me being selfish for catering to ALL gamers, which include deaf people and mutes, is not selfish.
While I DON'T cater for self-righteous selfish lazy asses like you, I'd like to think I do cater for just about everyone else.
Everyone who's playing is able to see, obviously, as, well, they can't play otherwise.
Everyone doesn't have to be able to speak or hear however. So you're basicly discriminating against two disabled types of communities. Ableism being the correct term...

As for PvP - I still remain undefeated in WoW 2v2 arena together with my friend.
I'm yet to hear his voice.
We knew eachother inside out and are fully capable of adapting to eachother without any type of communication. We don't even type anymore to talk while fighting.
Why? Because we didn't need to, we knew.

I'm not against voice chats,
I'm against YOU and YOUR kind who tries to FORCE things upon people.

I dont see why it matters what they pretend or dont pretend, in MMOs when you see a female character you automatically assume that its a guy (sorry female players but im sure you agree). MMOs arent dating services where you need to know wether a female toon is really a female or not for that theres eharmony.com.

If you are giving free stuff to female toons or even real female players playing female toons you may want to get in the habbit of not doing that because you will end up being a tool, or in other words their b1tch.

Point is, unless you are playing this game with an eye towards dating people you meet in-game, wtf do you care? Like the man said, treat everyone you encounter as male and your fine. Only reason this should even be a concern to you is that you flirt with female toons like they're real life people (which I see people do all the time) then feel decidedly awkward after you learn the are male. Who hasn't seen or heard of this happening.

I use vent for my villian group in cox and like it but sometimes just prefer to not log in for this simple fact...I play this game to get away from RL...I dont wanna know that your job sux,dog died etc....get's depressing. But i love chillen on a 8 man team on vent tactically makes things easier but im not apposed to reasding and typeing either.

Guy's playing chick toon's.......the majority of my toon's are chick toon's and I am a dude...And I tell every dumbass that hit's on me that I am and anyone else I talk to lol...but i play chick toons for 1 simple reason....I'd rather watch a chick run around for 8 hr's then a dude! lolz
