It is a very effective way to keep high level players from ganking, but then again you know there are always those players that will gather and attempt to form an unstoppable horde of chickens.
While it would be nice for them to use a simple "/kill" instead of the chaos chicken, the world of Warhammer has always been rather humorous and that may be the reasoning behind the chicken.
Why get rid of the Chicken? That's the single most amusing idea I've EVER SEEN in an MMO that allows players to attack other players. It' keeps things from getting ganker and seriously... chickens just fit those folks.
I like to PvP. I don't want all the rank 40 kiddies down in Newblet-town getting their rocks off.
Frankly speaking, I believe the only people who will complain about the chaos chicken are the people who constantly get owned in pvp. The solution is to learn some pvp skills, not go kill some lowbies.
My only worry about the Chicken system is that I'll be stuck with annoying gaps in my Tome of Knowledge, because something I need is only found in the PvP zone. For example, I don't like the idea that I may have found 4 out of 5 lorebooks in a Tier 1 zone (one of the recent videos showed some Tome unlocks are part of a set) only to miss the last one, which happens to be stuck in the middle of the PvP zone and therefore be effectively unable to get it. I just don't want to have to plan my character's leveling process by reading Wikis or Thottbots to ensure I don't miss any content on my Tome collecting character(s).
Get rid of that system. and bring back the murder system
What so you can get you kicks by killing people that can't compete or fight back? There is already a system like that... its in wow.. go play that game. Thanks.
I personally think its a good mechanic that keeps the challenge in, and the griefing retards out.
So no...

This is a very good point, anyone know if Mythic have said anything about this?

I believe that they said ToK unlocks related to PvE (like finding books) are ALL in the PvE areas of the game and that PvP unlocks are all something that you can achieve at all levels (like killed X dwarves).
But I am not quite sure where I heard/read this.

If the OP wants a game with FFA PvP then all he needs to do it come up with a game design, find investors, raise $30 million, and spend 3-5 years making his game.
Then watch it turn into a financial disaster and fail miserably.
Looks like the poll confirms that most people understand why the chicken mechanic isn't only a great way to humilitate those who think it takes any PvP skill to grief low-level players but is also absolutely hilarious.
WAR is going to be about fighting opponents who can fight back. It's going to be about needing skill to win, not levels. WAR is not going to be for everyone and it's perfectly understandable if some can't deal with the idea that they'll actually need skill to win in PvP. They don't have to play WAR.

Agree completely. The other thing the chicken does for thoes like me is offer some entertainment of a diffrent breed. I will find it entertaining and a good time waster to go back to thoes zones, turn into a chicken and just see how long I can run away from lowbies till they get to me. Silly I know but its just how I am wired.
Watch there be a ToK achievement for spending a certain amount of time in chicken form or actually managing to kill someone while in the form.
Watch people farming enemy alts/friends to make that sort of thing a meaningless achievement ^^

Jokes on you, Ganksta. =P Nothing like a little humiliation to reinforce the lesson.
This whole idea sort of loses it's merit as exactly *because* of the chicken thing people who are there in chicken form will be the ones fully aware that they can't kill anyone and thus will not *be* the "chicken*@!% is who can't PvP against someone their own level" type of people
Keep it. If you feel the need to attack someone twenty levels below you then get that other game and join a PvP server. Otherwise its time to learn to pick on people your own level.
Honestly, an army of chickens raiding a T1 zone, would someone really complain about that death? 1 health player characters only able to cause 1 wound each attack.
"Guys, this game sucks, I just had 200 chickens peck me to death, and I only managed to kill 150 of them with my AE. Chickens are so OP!"
That's a great feature, actually. People that gank lower levels are just spineless cowards that suck too much at the game itself to progress, so they vent their frustrations out on other players by hindering their progression.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

I'm going with unsure on this one.

Just some thoughts.....

It's the single-best and most creative idea they have in the entire game.

As tribute to monty python, everyone that as a high lvl ventures into lowby areas should be turned into a killer bunny

I believe that you will be able to enter the RvR area without becoming a chicken but once you try and attack someone then you will go "poof".
Things happening in lower tiers affect the higher tiers so you can't have a high level farming lowbies.

Bah get a sense of humour OP, its a great idea and solves the problem in a unique way.
Keep the chicken!!!
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
I waiting for this to be heard in a lowbie zone....

First off I voted to keep the chicken. it's a great idea! It stops griefing in it's tracks.
Second, I think it would be fun as hell to see an army of chickens attacking a newbie zone! Hell, I'll be one of em!
We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.
Can anyone point me to where this system is explained please?
Voted to keep it.
