Why isn't WoW ranked nr.1?

If WoW is the biggest MMO out there, shouldn't it get higher ranking?...
makes me question the entire list... kinda unfair for games that perhaps should have been higher ranked

WoW is by no means the best MMORPG out there. Just has the most subs.

Again, the popularity of a game does not mean that its a good game. Also, for every WoW fanboi out on this site, there is always people bashing WoW. Please don't base ANY thoughts about a game on the rankings on this site. Honestly they are corrupted by multiple accounts that just vote to bring up the hype or popularity of a game or bring it down.

Cause its a commercial game. Britney Spears surely has more fallowers, but is her music really better then that of "The Doors" or I dunno "Metallica"?

there are asian MMOs that make wow look like it has no subs. why aren't they listed?
no one likes games that force you to raid for hours on end, in order to MAYBE get one item... then to do that same dungeon, in the same exact way, another 40-100 times... then rinse/repeat for the next dungeon.
that is the most incredibly boring garbage to ever hit the MMO world.

Case in point. I'm not a WoW fan. I'ma EQ2/LotRO/VG fan. =P Sorry WoW fans. =P Just because a game has a ton of subscriptions doesn't make it the best game. It means it's the easiest for multiple demographics to pick up and learn. The road most traveled isn't always the richest journey in the world. Just the quickest and easiest.
The subs means for most players it is the best game out there. People buy the box and keep on playing.(compared to most other mmos...)
It isn't the best game for the people who come to this site - who aren't truly representative of the mmo dermographic.

I don't like wow - the games I have enjoyed the most have been SWG and DDO. However, the best game does not have to be difficult or the richest (unlike maybe true choices in life). It is a GAME for people to kill hours with - and if this is the game that appeals to most people, obviously it is th best for them.

To me it seems that this site is somekind of hate site or something, as far as the users go. It's just not representative.
I'm not defending WoW, I'm just questioning the ranking list. Don't really know how to improve it though.
Lets just put this in perspective:
MMORPG Members: 858,000+
Active WoW Subsrciptions: 9-10,000,000
There are over 10 times as many people playing WoW as there are members on this site, which goes back to its creation(I think). Imagine what the number would be if Blizzard included accounts which were no longer active?
WoW may be huge, polished game, but that won't help it get ratings on this site. As many others have said before, it is successful because it polished up and properly implemented a bunch of features people were already familiar with, but didn't really add anything new to the genre.
A lot of people have left WoW looking for something completely different, and have been dissapointed with the similarities that happen all too frequently in MMORPGs. If anything, that will hurt the overall reviews it gets.
Instead of questioning the list, question yourself: Is WoW actually the game I should be playing? Is there another game out there that caters more to my game style specifically, that would fit me better? Is the overpopulation of the game hurting the experience in any way(eg. community)?

-Re-Launch of Hellgate:London US/EU Servers
-Diablo 3
-A PvE centric MMORPG with-
-Fast paced twitch-action combat that requires hand-eye coordination, where you can manually aim your attacks instead of having to acquire/lock target(s) first.
-FPS-style WASD and mouse control that determine your overall success when attacking or defending.

The popularity of a game has far more to do with its quality that the rating on this site.
At the end of the day, "good" is in the eye of the beholder, and WoW has many times more beholders than any other game. Who cares what voters on this site say.

So WoW sells the best, but I rank it around 4-5th on my list
Just because everyone is jumping off of a bridge, that doesn't make it any more sane than staying on the bridge. In other words, just because many people are playing it, doesn't make it the best.
Well I don't need to question WoW, since I've played it already and quit.
The WoW rating on this site is based on about 8k votes... contra 10 mill subs... I mean lol
MMORPG.COM is a redoubt for the "old school" MMO fans.
While WoW is the ultimate 2nd gen MMO, there are a lot of things that WoW took out specifically to appeal to a much broader audience than the old school MMO players. The thing I hear whining about the most is that in WoW, death is meaningless. I encountered this mentality over on the Vanguard beta boards, where all these old EQ players were demanding that death be terribly painful. Look, guys, if you want severe death penalties, it's easy: reroll your character every time you die. There you go. You can have your death penalty with meaning.
Of course, this dosen't satisfy them, because it's not about their toon's death, it's about everyone elses.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

This site is most frequently visited by people anticipating future releases, or looking for a new game to try. THe masses happily playing away in WoW won't need to come here.
For those waiting for some innovation in the industry, it's easy to resent WoW because it's commerical success makes the investors who fund MMO development reluctant to try anything other than cloning it, thus people mark it down.
I'm not sure you guys get my point, cause I'm not questioning wether WoW is the best game or not.
Because that is a subjective decision.
The only way we can measure, from a group, wether it is good or not, is if it's popular or not.
Not to make this into a political thread, but that's the way politics works - we can't decide which political direction is best, so we let the masses decide. The political group with most popularity gets to run the show. Or that's the way it works with democrazy anyway (which has come in place because it's more popluar than dictatorship
)
So popularity is the only way to make your mind up based on others choice - ofc if you want to make your own mind up you have to try all the games listed. If not you're still just listening to other people to a more or less degree.
So that's why I'm questioning the list, you could very well say that WoW is a McDonalds, but in RL the quality restaurants are more expensive - most of the games don't charge you more than WoW, in fact they are cheaper...
Because WoW didn't do anything new, WoW doesn't have any unique features, and didn't do anything for the industry except bring in noobs that demand more easy WoW clones. Its not a very good game. Its just a very easy one.

^The reason why wow has the most subs^
Two reasons:
1. The vast majority of people who like WoW are not likely to frequent a site like this -- this site is mostly frequented by malcontents (myself included) looking for something different.
2. WoW is actually cheaper, in a sense, based on its easy hardware requirements. Again, the majority of people that are playing WoW simply because they can play it on their crappy computers are not likely to be so into computer games that they would spend even more time surfing MMORPG.com. If they were that dedicated to gaming, they'd dedicate more of their income to upgrading their hardware.

lots of people loved michael jackson, brittany spears, and um, clay aiken in their day....
what they produced was pop music -- something to attract the mindless masses and the little kiddies.
would those people go someplace and voice their opinions? or just buy up the pop crap and enjoy it?
