We've already asked to be allowed to view the game. We were told this would happen "when the time comes". Beyond that, there really isn't much that we can do.
I find it amusing Tasos is thinking its getting overhyped.
1) He's hyped it himself. If the posted features are there, ship battles, etc etc are in game, then it's going to be one of the MMO's with the most features. He's delibrately marketed it to the hardcore PVP's and sandbox lovers, which there are a signifigent number of. 2) He should know that MMORPGs are big business. The market for a game like this should be a few hundred thousand at least. If he's thinking he can get away with 20-30k to start on one or two servers? He's going to have problems if 200k try to download it on launch day. You simply don't make a MMO for 10k people. 3) No one has been near the game. So no-one can burst the bubble. It also allows the hype to continue. Now with the pontential pre-orders? Alarm bells 4) Download only. At least with boxes you can control who plays. Start with 100k boxes, sell them, then if demand is there sell some more. Can't do that with download. I'm not going near this game with a bargepole. People will buy it, some swayed by the hype, others just hoping its going to be bearable. this could so easily be a trainwreck.
Well I think you are wrong about the highlighted part. You can control the sale of digital copies of the game and/or accounts just as easily as you can with box sales. The difference is that box sales requires the developer/publisher to invest more money into the product before seeing a return on that investment. Given the fact that Advertine is a indie gaming company its makes logical/biz sense to distribute this way.
There are reviews of the game out there. MMORPG.it is a good review and the leaked footage of the game is good as well.
I thought that was what they partnered with Audio Visual S.A. for. You know, since AV supposedly distributes discs? So,basically, you're saying they either aren't using the service they're supposedly paying for ( bad management again ), or AV isn't doing it's job ( which is bad management again sine Aventurine hasn't dumped them ). Which is it?
Save us from what, our own stupidity? DF has been the object of scourn and general laughter for years now. I see no reason why this site should do any thing beyond allowing us to discuss the game as we've been doing.
Ico Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
This is starting to get silly. MMORPG.com's staff is not some kind of MMO police. .... It is just stupid to take any decision from a MMO company so personally. ...
Correct. They are not MMO Police.
All they can control is their own site.
And that is the issue.
They have listed a game on their site that really looks pretty dodgy right now.
So, what should they do about it do you think?
I have no problem with it staying... but if this site wishes to remain unbiased, impartial and even handed then they have to list any "MMO" that meets the same criteria that Darkfall has?
And, just FYI, there is more 'proof' on the internet that Perpetual Motion Machines exist than there is that Darkfall exists.
More worrying is that the developers in this case will not let anyone besides a select few cronies view the game - and even then under a very strict NDA.
Again, okay, it's their business. But at this late stage questions really have to be asked?
But it also means no one can verify that this game exists beyond concept art, a (maybe) working engine (we don't know what that engine is actually capable of?) and some big ideas in the head of the Developer?
Even Stradden clearly has doubts based on what he wrote. So, what should he do about it?
How many delays is MMORPG.com prepared to accept without seeing proof of a functional game?
It's an interesting question - could someone string the MMO Community along for more than a decade based on nothing more than wishful thinking?
It would sure be nice if mmorpg.com could step in here and protect the community from a possible scam here with Darkfall. At this point, all we've seen is a graniy edited video from a yr ago. There isnt much proof that this game even exists. And there are beta leaks that suggest the game is empty like Dark and Light was.
besides the beta leaks, the 17 minute video, the beta previews and the fact there will be an open beta on the 22nd and the fact its been in development for 8 years.. if you remove all those logical things, i guess you're right. lol.
you are just another overly angry person who is mad about waiting for the game to come out, i dont blame you but the conspiracy theories are pathetic
Which are few and far between -- that's unheard of for such a highly anticipated MMO
the 17 minute video
How old is that video and how many of the people in that video are real or simply AI bots?
the beta previews
You mean the ones on The Noob comic? They don't count for anything because they are being written by someone whose website just happens to be hosted on Aventurine's servers, plus she's close friends with the staff.
and the fact there will be an open beta on the 22nd
It's now five days until the 22nd. Let's wait and see what happens on that day. I wish Aventurine luck. They're going to need it.
Save us from what, our own stupidity? DF has been the object of scourn and general laughter for years now. I see no reason why this site should do any thing beyond allowing us to discuss the game as we've been doing.

What it means is that Game disc won't be avaiable when the game is launched, not that they won't be avaible at all. Its not bad managment. Besides, publisher tend to only be paid after a game is sold while the rights to publish a game, movie, music, etc are bought by the publisher.
Don't expect MMORPG to remove DF they tend to leave dead games on here and never clean out the chaf.
Example? Well lets take that other wonder game DnL. They have been offline for almost half a year, the game was stillborn, the developers have been found guility in French court of stealing the underlying terrain engine and ordered to make restitution.
Guess what?? MMORPG still lists the game as "Released". I guess they will keep Tabula Rasa listed as "Released" since at one time it was also functional though their servers are going down in Feb.
Now of course thousands of people are testing say Runes of Magic and I see no mention of it on this site and it meets ALL the requirements of being listed as a Game in Development so what gives?
Sounds like MMORPG is less then professional and actually Stadden's answers were rather condescending. Not suprising though since I used to mod on another game site and the "editor's in charge" were nothing but e-peen strokers.
If you think that anyone that writes for any of these gaming sites are "credible" journalists you are just as delusional as the Dark-n-Fail fawnbois.

Tabula Rasa will be removed from the active game list when the servers go down on February 28th.

I wouldn't let these guys get to you too much man, its mostly just misplaced and misdirected anger at the way the market is leaning at the moment. I doubt anyone who frequents this site really thinks you guys are crooked or biased. Honestly, with the mass-market explosion thats been going on now for the last 4 years....I don't seriously expect you guys to always be able to keep up with every last game being made.
Especially if they don't approach YOU first.
That said, as my earlier post here indicates, it would be mildly prudent to consider the "undercover" action. In a normal, rollercoaster, MMO....this wouldn't be needed. But, as this is a sub-genre that almost demands its players to get in fast and get in early, it IS kind of a dangerous game to be walking the razor on. Even if Tasos means the absolute best...he could inadvertantly really screw a lot of people on this release. I don't doubt a game is being made, or that one is even being tested. It is, that much is very clear. Some outside, unbiased, glances at the product as a whole would be very much appreciated...since all we can go by so far is limited entirely to the uber fans, or people that may very well not even exist.
Just don't let the angst around here worry you too much. Most of these people have no ideal what goes on in the business, nor what kind of undertaking trying to follow it closely really is. Just in trying to be an armchair follower of the genre (meaning I have no deadlines, business meetings, or other responsibilities) I can't even begin to name the countless games and happenings I've missed over the years.

I feel like every other person on this forum asks this question. This is why Forumfall hates the MMORPG community...
The underlined is exactly true.
And yet, here y'all are. "Forumfall hates MMORPG.COM, but we like to troll over there anyway" seems to be the new Forumfall motto.
Newsflash: I happen to be of the opinion that the majority of "forumfallers" are elist, childish, pricks practicing their e-peen stroking on the family cat in the basement. I do not, however, go over there and spout my opinion every chance I get. But you "forumstallers" sure love to come here, don't ya?
It always makes me sad when once again I am forced to realize that the population of this forum has turned into absolute idiots. With that said..
Why don't you all just wait until the end of Febuary, then all the european kids can play it and tell you how the game is for three months, until you finally get to try it on a US server. That way, you don't have to pay for it, you get a three month intensive review, and you can sit back and complain about all the things you don't like about it, while having no way of giving feedback or playing the game.
To all the EU players who are concerned, get over it and apply for the EU beta, if you don't get in it, read what all the other cool kids write and believe some of it after you read 10 or so accounts.
Everyone else shut up and go back to your corners while you daydream about how you can throw more conspiracies at the first game that may have potential since AC.
On a site note, Adventurtine doesn't want to answer questions or create more hype than there already is, so I'm sure they are happy that the select few that complained in this thread about lack of information aren't going to buy the game. As for the player base, I am sure they are happy they aren't going to be playing with skeptical trash-talking trolls as well.
Its not MMORPG.COM's responsibility to protect gullible fans. Use your heads.
MMORPG.com is the only site that protects the trolls, it's called retaliation rule.
That's why they'll hate the official Darkfall forum. There the community first hammer them down then take a piss at them when they lie down. And after that the mods ban them and lock/delete the thread.
And that's no fun for someone using internet for boosting their self-esteem. So this is the 'sceptics' paradise, like a 'fat-camp' they're among their equals.
This is their territory and will do everything to keep normal people from entering.
______________________________ The Sceptics, yes they're special but we've need them to.. I guess. And if they're put more effort MMORPG.com can create a 'Team Sceptic' and send them to the Special Olympus.
I dont know if mmorpg.com has asked about a sneak peek for Darkfall but with the latest doings, it seems time to demand it. For our sake, after all there have been a few scams in the past few years. mmo players are growing tired of indie developers asking for pre-order money then come launch day the game is 95% unfinished. My suggestion, mmorpg.com contacts Tasos and asks for a beta key to see for themselves if the game exists and delivers on its promises. A review is due us BEFORE we start giving an unproven and unknown developer money for an MMO we dont even know works. If Tasos refuses, pull Darkfall off the mmorpg.com list and post an article warning the community of a potential scam. If Tasos and Adventurine want to be taken seriously they will comply. If the game is just another scam where they grab all the money they can before launch day and then run for the hills, then it should be easy for mmorpg.com to find out in beta scams only hurt the industry. If this is another D&L players are going to be very leary of ever pre-ordering again. Plus it makes other indy devs look bad. Please look into this and confirm the game exists and works or let us know otherwise
We've already asked to be allowed to view the game. We were told this would happen "when the time comes". Beyond that, there really isn't much that we can do.
As to your Game List idea: We don't use our Game List as a weapon. That would pretty much destroy our credibility. It's a list of available games, and not a list of who has done what we've told them to do.
Look, I'm not happy about it either, but it's the company's decision. I really can't force them to let me into their game. You, as a member of the community, and the communitty at large, need to make up your own minds about any game on our list, including this one. We never come down the mountain and tell you all what we want you to think. We try our best to inform you, to the best of our ability.
So here's the information I'm giving you now: A trial has been requested. We were told that we would be allowed to see it when the time came. We haven't seen it yet.
thats good enough for me. At least we know you made the attempt. And I can see your point about using the game list.

RE: Runes of Magic - I think you'll find, that we not only have this game listed, but have been bringing you regular features, it was nominated for an award, and as I look it is currently on the front page as one of the most anticpated games in development.
Honestly, I thought that DnL had been removed. I will look into this.
Tabula Rasa will be removed from the active game list when the servers go down on February 28th.
You are such a good community editor, I could never do you job. Guarenteed after and hour I would start passing out the ban-hammer left and right if I were in your shoes. But banning everone who disagrees or is misguided isnt the purpose of MMORPG.com, but still...
Give us beta access or we remove you from mmorpg.com. Yeah really classy wtf are you kids thinking?
And that is the issue.
They have listed a game on their site that really looks pretty dodgy right now.
So, what should they do about it do you think
And, just FYI, there is more 'proof' on the internet that Perpetual Motion Machines exist than there is that Darkfall exists.
More worrying is that the developers in this case will not let anyone besides a select few cronies view the game - and even then under a very strict NDA.
Again, okay, it's their business. But at this late stage questions really have to be asked?
But it also means no one can verify that this game exists beyond concept art, a (maybe) working engine (we don't know what that engine is actually capable of?) and some big ideas in the head of the Developer?
/facepalm
I feel like every other person on this forum asks this question. This is why Forumfall hates the MMORPG community...
The underlined is exactly true.
pls save us mmorpg

The Sceptics, yes they're special but we've need them to.. I guess.
And if they're put more effort MMORPG.com can create a 'Team Sceptic'
and send them to the Special Olympus.
Thanks Jon
