I will linc this what a strawmen argument is http://www-personal.umich.edu/~lilyth/strawman.html The scary part is that it fits the haters very well. Example: Thousands of people are having fun in DF -Hater: No they havent. - well yes. -Hater: How could they have fun when its a failure?
Yoy see my point : ) Also funny because i did post a thread a few weeks ago about this looking as a Science vs Creationsm debate.
More realistic example of a Darkfall forums discussion:
Fankiddy: Hundreds of thousands of people are having fun in DF!
"Hater": No, they aren't.
Fankiddy: Tasos said they are, so it must be true!
"Hater": *facepalm*
EDIT: Hey, daarco, you're right for once, it is like a science vs religion debate.

I have my own twist on that...
Poster: WTH... there's hardly any PvE in DF
Fan: It's a hardcore PvP game, it's not supposed to have PvE
Poster: According to AV and Tasos, the game is supposed to have plenty of PvE (provides link as proof)
robertb: I disagree. So, you are wrong.
Fan: Then you obviously aren't playing the game, there's plenty of PvE.
daarc: Aventurine is like Quentin Tarantino.
Poster: Yes, a few groups of mobs over-camped by 10 other players, not including the players waiting to gank you and steal the loot.
Fan: DF is a hardcore PvP MMO with full looting. It doesn't need PvE.
Poster: Would you make up your mind? Either it has no PvE because it's hardcore PvP... or it has plenty of PvE... Which is it?
robertb: I disagree. So, you are wrong.
Fan: Go back to your themepark WoW if you can't handle a sandbox MMO.
Poster: Now you're not even answering my question.
Fan: Yes I am. AV created a revolutionary MMO that has Blizzard shaking in their boots for fear of losing players.
Poster: Oh, please. It's hardly revolutionary. DF isn't even on Blizzard's radar.
Fan: Well it's unfair of you to hold AV to such a high standard. They don't have the money and resources Blizzard has, so of course they can't compete.
Poster: Then why do you think DF has Blizzard shaking in their boots? Examples please?
Fan: DF obviously isn't for you. I recommend going back to your kiddie theme-park game.
daarc: Darkfall is like chess.
Poster: There you go avoiding my question again.
Fan: No I'm not. I answered you. DF has sieges with hundreds of people fighting it out in the same area at the same time. There's video to prove it.
Poster: I've seen the videos of those battles, I never see more than 30 or so at a time, and they're just running. I don't see any massive battles.
Fan: People are too busy fighting to record video. DF is a hardcore FFA PvP sandbox MMO.
daarc: Darkfall is the only MMO people ever complain about. Every other MMO gets a pass for their mistakes.
Poster: So why are you pointing to a video as proof?
robertb: I disagree. So, you are wrong.
Poster: You disagree with what?
robertb: I disagree. So, you are wrong.
Fan: Darkfall is an epic hardcore FFA PvP Sandbox MMO with full looting. You obviously can't handle it. Go back to WoW.
daarc: Tasos is like Jesus.
... and on and on...
Obviously not all literal examples (though there are some direct quotes in there)... but gets the point across. It's like a guessing game with them... "Which way will they spin next?"
Mike, as usual, very well stated.
These guys are like trying to reason with small children.
"Our hope for Darkfall is that you won't spend a cent on the game until you've tried it and decided you want to play it. "
was spun by you and your type into:
"We promise that ..."
...and so on and so on. the core characteristic of a DF troll is lack of reading comprehension.
Good thing that's not the only place he said that. Hope, only appeared on that, as launch got closer.
Anyway, the game was ready to launch in 2003. So, its like, perfect and jank.
---------- "Anyone posting on this forum is not an average user, and there for any opinions about the game are going to be overly critical compared to an average users opinions." - Me

...and so on and so on. the core characteristic of a DF troll is lack of reading comprehension.
Mike you forgot about this guy javac
I don't know who is worse the fanboys or the trolls. Trolls start the same topic over and over again and post the same reply over and over again, but the fanboys are blatant liars, defending the lies with more lies and living in denial because according to them, their opinions are FACTS.
I was accused of being a troll when in reality most of my posts are elsewhere on this forum. Its ironic because when I first started gaining interest in DF I was considered "cool" and was defended, but as soon as my more recent replies in threads were negative, now all of a sudden I'm a troll.
"Javac: you either like sandbox MMOs or you like WOW. not a lot of people really like both."
Another blatant opinion he states as a fact, show me the proof. When did you take a census? Most of my friends who play Eve online play Wow as well, and that's a 120 man corp, but you don't see me stating that as a fact that applies to everyone. Do you see me saying everyone who likes sandbox likes WoW. And since when is DF sandbox? It has sandbox features, just barely. STOP LYING TO PEOPLE!
"Javac: [sarcastically] because 2 days is totally enough to decide if a MMO is good or not."
Here goes good old javac making fun of someone who did not like the game after 2 days. But guess what, in another post someone who played it for 2 days and liked it was defended by the same hypocrit javac. So which is it javac? Is or is not 2 days enough to determine how great a game is? So if you like it in 2 days you are ok with the hypocrits, but if you don't like it in 2 days then you must be a troll. MAKE UP YOUR MIND!
"Javac: with over 40K subs, DF has been a huge success considering its hardcore niche and its tiny development budget. "
More lies. Show me where it is said they have 40k subs with PROOF! As much as Tasos has lied I don't think even he lied THAT HARD. So here we have another blatant lie.
"Javac: you'd have to be braindead (or a bitter/clueless troll) not to recognise that in terms of the big picture of gaming, DF is, and continues to be, massively successful."
Now this is such a blatant lie that even the fanboys on the DF forums disagree with this statement. Yet here is Javac making false claims again. We had a good laugh at this statement in DF chat last week.
"Javac: for now, it's the best PVP MMO hands-down on the market, and just that counts for a lot by itself."
Another opinion he stated on another thread as a FACT. LIES! Notice a trend here? Seems like this guy is really full of it.
"Javac: It's not client-side. every internet game ever made has hacks. stop being so naive & dramatic."
So it is not client-side eventhough EVERYONE DISAGREES with you? Is every internet game under dvelopment for 8 years? Why did they not foresee even the SIMPLEST hacks in all those years of development? Why is it that TCoS , which had a small development team, was under development for less time, is ALSO very reliant on client-side data JUST LIKE DF (you're living in denial if you think otherwise) and yet TCoS doesnt have the SAME easily exploitable tactics such as packet manipulation? How did one company get it right and the other didn't? ANOTHER LIE by Javac
These are all direct quotes taken from previous posts where this liar accuses people, insults people, and states his opinions are facts.
Bottomline: Stop being misled by people like javac who are blatant liars and don't listen to every troll who copies & pastes the same response over and over in every topic.
Try the game out for yourself or find yourself a respectable source of info. In DF's case, I suggest the latter since they have no free trial and probably won't ever. There is a reason the company has such a bad rep, there is a reason why it is a limited paid beta, and there is a reason why it only has one server. Do the research yourself, Do not take someones false claims as definitive proof, because you never know, the next thread you will most likely read will be from someone like Javac, and they could cost you the hard earned $$ you paid to try a game that misrepresented
Who just came in here and resurrected a thread for a game he does not play to provide us with a seemingly witty (in his perverted opinion) monologue of how Darkfall fans defend their game.
Its not us - the fans - being children, its YOU - the trolls - that infest these premises that need to go back to kindergarden.
All i see is a "No U!!!" argument here, i'm sorry.
I believe you proved at least someone correct with that.
"Our hope for Darkfall is that you won't spend a cent on the game until you've tried it and decided you want to play it. "

I never spun nor even commented on that statement.
Nice try though.
I *could*, however, cite many statements made by Tasos that turned out to be incorrect, only to be spun by others here, if you really want to go that route.
And reading comprehension is actually the very reason why some people like myself are able to catch and call out the inconsistencies, spin and otherwise BS spewed by AV, Tasos and others here.

Either way that man makes statements again and again that are intentionally missleading, how anyone believes a word that Tasos says is beyond me.

Are you referring to me? I "resurrected" the thread?
Oh I hope you're kidding.
But... assuming you're not... lets tear down your little claim, shall we?
Before today, the 27th, the oldest post on this thread was.... the 26th! Yesterday! And the earliest post prior to that? Hmmm.... The 25th! And before that? The 24th! Heck, I traced posts going back to the 22nd, without even a single missing day in between.
Looks like there's a problem with your statement. In order for something be "resurrected", it has to first "die", which this thread has not done, yet.
Next time, I'd avoid using big words you don't know the meaning of.
As for comments on a game I don't play...? Nope. I was poking fun at the way the typical fans "debate" by making bold claims without proof, or spinning those made by Tasos. They'll spin and dance around the topic, before hopping to a different one when pressed for specific examples to support their claims. What I'm demonstrating happens right on these forums, or is easily cited from Tasos himself.
Nice try, though .

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So true...
How many separate skills, (clicks, button pushes, etc...), would you guess I use in an average Darkfall PVP encounter?
it depends on how ur playing. Are you a a mix of everything (melee/bow/magic)? A pure magician? strait up Melee?
If melee maybe 4-6 abilities. Magic could be more but nothing compared to the amount of abilites someone would use in a normal MMO pvp encounter.
personally people make such a big deal about manual targetting, while im not agianst this targetting in MMOs ( i feel TCoS pull it off well) DF seems a bit simplistic.
Also I would of never attacked you guys if you didnt start all this by saying normal MMO combat takes no skill (which is false).
I, like pretty much everyone else, play as a hybrid of melee/archery/magic.
So, a guess?
probably about 10 skills (not movements like blocking, strafe, dodge).
But of course maybe your a macroer and have a crap ton of skills maxxed, DF is a sandbox good sir, if ur a melee, range and magic character I will bet you any amount of money that if i took any Ranger, warrior and Mage counted up all the spells they have you would have less then 5% of the skills they have.
Ill use WoW as an example since as a sandbox fan I love attacking this game lol. A warrior, mage and hunter have about 75-100 spells/abilities(added together) and buffs im sure you have no more then 10-20 even as all three archtypes within one character.
LOL, no I do not macro and I use 7 or 8 skills just with melee, (I use S&B for defense and a Polearm for Offense and not counting mounted combat), so guess again.
I played WOW for a few years, (Tankadin and SP), though adding the classes together is a fun exercise, what does that have to do with the reality of actual skills used in a normal engagement?
I can tell you that I use more skills during combat in Darkfall currently, (I am not extremely high skilled, as the toon has only been played since launch, of course), then I ever needed to use on either my Paly or my Priest, playing WOW, (not to mention the fact that I have do deal with issues like friendly fire and manual aiming).
This is the reality whether you believe it or not.
I'm sorry buddy but if you use more abilities in DF than you did with a damn paladin in WoW you really didn't know how to play.
My pally had like 4 action bars full of shit and most of that was useful in pvp combat.
Anyway I kind of said my peace Im basically just trying to convince some haters that normal mmo combat takes skill and practice to some degree. while most DF players keep saying DF takes more due to manual targetting which is complete bullshit.
Normal mmo is basically; target Mob, choose which offensive spells and or neutral spells to cast and hit the buttins. You keep an eye on your group members to see whom needs buffs and heals(depending on your class) and thats about it. No need to retarget same mob, only need to target new mob when initial mob is down.
With DF system you gotta try target and constantly retarget initial enemy and keep an eye on all other enemies as well as mobs.
In the end, manual targeting takes skill as opposed to targeting in a normal mmo; only skill required here is when you spot a mob and click on it and it stays targeted until you change your target or mob is dead. Geez, you can even lose LOS and still kill the mob, yeah thats takes lotsa skillz.
If you played any FPS you would know it takes skill and practice to become good, better etc.
Try playing one of the fastest FPS games out... Battlefield 2142 on a Camp Gibraltar map that has 64 Vs 64. Thats hectic and takes skill to know what you are doing, to help not only your squad of 6 but also your team.
Anyway. You saying that it's bullshit that manual targeting takes more skill than normal mmo shows you have no clue. Most of the normal is so easy its past its due date.
Fast bars with your most useful skills to be clicked on a mob thats auto targeted. Seems more of a memory retention skill than anything. Which heal and buff to click on which player needs said buff or heal. Group heals and buffs even easier.
Oh and the best has to be.... AE's LOL. Why hit 1 mob when you can hit a heap of them with one spell ROFL.

I find it funny that you go through all the steps it takes to be good in normal MMO combat yet you only talk about aiming in FPS mmo combat.
Dude in DF you use like 2-3 spells + FPS aiming and thats supposed to mean it takes more skill?
Who gives a shit if normal mmo combat is tab targetting? i still have to react to action. i have to counter shit and understand situations quickly.
All you guys keep talking about auto targetting as an excuse to say normal mmo combat is easy, if its so easy why do 90% of all mmo players suck ass at it?
It takes practice and understanding enemy classes to play well in anyMMO Auto target or Fps target doesnt matter they both take time to learn.

Hey Forrest,
If I am going through all the steps of normal mmo combat then how am I only talking about FPS combat??
Anyway. Targeting in DF takes more skill than your normal mmo targeting. You must be able to acknowledge that, surely?!
In a normal mmo the mob will be standing around waiting for you to target it. In DF you are up against a human aopponent. This human opponent wont be waiting for you to target him/her. Instead the human opponent will move around trying not to be targetted.
Do you now see how it is more difficult? It takes skill in actually getting a hit on your opponent. You need to try and anticipate where to aim and get your hit in and at the same time, try not to get hit.
Yes i and I am sure everyone understands that you are under pressure to react, counter and understand situations. Goes for almost every game we all choose to play.
You say most mmo players suck ass at normal mmo. Hmmm there are many that do. They just dont know what their role is at any given time I guess. Or if they do know their role they dont have the awareness and experience to know what they should be doing.
You play normal mmo'. Perhaps you can answer that for us better?
Maybe the games have been made so easy for people to start playing them that so much is done for players in game that they have no idea how they need to do things using their own minds/skills etc...? Too many games hold peoples hands nowadays.
I agree, it takes time to learn any game, its mechanics and how to do areas. It takes more practice and beter skill to become good, better etc.
Anyone that is good at FPS games will have a better chance in Df than those whom have no FPS skills.
Anyone can hit a target that is standing still or running in a straight line. Try hitting a target thats zig-zagging and moving around.
I realize Darkfall is a sensitive topic for some, but it's not worth getting banned for. Last warning, argue the points without the insults please. Thanks.
if only you were this forthright about the other half-dozen or so wild DF predictions you've been wrong about over the past couple of years. kudos for not rerolling your mmorpg.com account like plenty of other trolls did once DF released.
but why are you still here anyway? have you even tried playing DF yet? would love to hear of your experiences if so, seeing as you invested SO much time into slandering the game and trying to dig up dirt on it.
You know what's really funny, when I typed that a few days ago I seriously thought I bet that javac guy will quote just that and say exactly what you said, but I still did it anyway.

You know what's really funny, when I typed that a few days ago I seriously thought I bet that javac guy will quote just that and say exactly what you said, but I still did it anyway.
Of course he quoted you out of context too. Got to love it.
"Our hope for Darkfall is that you won't spend a cent on the game until you've tried it and decided you want to play it. "
was spun by you and your type into:
"We promise that ..."
...and so on and so on. the core characteristic of a DF troll is lack of reading comprehension.
L.M.F.A.O.
the simple truth is, i'm right almost all the time, cause i'm smart IRL. i don't need or even are if or even how many people disagree with me, it doesn't make what i say any less right. only evidence and well-thought-through arguments matter.
most DF trolls, and some fans, are shit-dumb to the point of not knowing even basic facts about IT, and/or dead giveaways of stupidity like repeated use of "you're/your", "they're/their". and while it's really not anyone's fault for being dumb, it is so incredibly amusing. noone with a clue cares what dumbasses say anyway; my comments are not aimed at them anyway, except as you say, to ridicule them.
lastly, i take your *desperate* attempt to troll my comments as the highest form of flattery.
if only you were this forthright about the other half-dozen or so wild DF predictions you've been wrong about over the past couple of years. kudos for not rerolling your mmorpg.com account like plenty of other trolls did once DF released.

well let's face it, you have been wrong more than a number of times with your various predictions...
unlike many of these newer troll accounts who rerolled their mmorpg.com account once the flood of overall positive DF reports came out, you've actually stuck around, which counts for something, but it begs the question: why? did you play it and not like it? haven't played it yet but want to? are too scared to play it in case you might even like it?
while the tone of your posts is almost always pessimistic and sarcastic, it is well evident that you are actually interested in the concept of DF, and also well probable that you were even once a DF "fanboi" turned bitter over the protracted development period and withdrawn beta pushes. so despite the fairly constant doomsaying, i'd still be interested to hear how you found the game, if you've even played it at all.
Javac is right, anyone who does not agree that Darkfall is a huge massive success with over 40k subscribers and the best PvP sandbox MMO currently on the market is a sh*t-dumb bitter clueless troll.

More realistic example of a Darkfall forums discussion:
Fankiddy: Hundreds of thousands of people are having fun in DF!
"Hater": No, they aren't.
Fankiddy: Tasos said they are, so it must be true!

I have my own twist on that...

Poster: According to AV and Tasos, the game is supposed to have plenty of PvE (provides link as proof)

These guys are like trying to reason with small children.
you mean like how this tasos quote:

Good thing that's not the only place he said that. Hope, only appeared on that, as launch got closer.
Anyway, the game was ready to launch in 2003. So, its like, perfect and jank.

All i see is a "No U!!!" argument here, i'm sorry.
I believe you proved at least someone correct with that.
you mean like how this tasos quote:
"Our hope for Darkfall is that you won't spend a cent on the game until you've tried it and decided you want to play it. "
was spun by you and your type into:
"We promise that ..."
...and so on and so on. the core characteristic of a DF troll is lack of reading comprehension.

Made me lol.
Looks about right.

robertb: I disagree. So, you are wrong.

Poster: Oh, please. It's hardly revolutionary. DF isn't even on Blizzard's radar.

WSIMike, that is awesome.
He who keeps his cool best wins.

The rules of Debate are really simple; once you have to stoop to insults instead of facts, logic, or reason to try and win your argument, you've lost.

Of course he quoted you out of context too. Got to love it.
you mean like how this tasos quote:
"Our hope for Darkfall is that you won't spend a cent on the game until you've tried it and decided you want to play it. "
was spun by you and your type into:
"We promise that ..."
...and so on and so on. the core characteristic of a DF troll is lack of reading comprehension.
L.M.F.A.O.
the simple truth is, i'm right almost all the time, cause i'm smart IRL. i don't need or even are if or even how many people disagree with me, it doesn't make what i say any less right. only evidence and well-thought-through arguments matter.
most DF trolls, and some fans, are shit-dumb to the point of not knowing even basic facts about IT, and/or dead giveaways of stupidity like repeated use of "you're/your", "they're/their". and while it's really not anyone's fault for being dumb, it is so incredibly amusing. noone with a clue cares what dumbasses say anyway; my comments are not aimed at them anyway, except as you say, to ridicule them.
lastly, i take your *desperate* attempt to troll my comments as the highest form of flattery.

well let's face it, you have been wrong more than a number of times with your various predictions...
unlike many of these newer troll accounts who rerolled their mmorpg.com account once the flood of overall positive DF reports came out, you've actually stuck around, which counts for something, but it begs the question: why? did you play it and not like it? haven't played it yet but want to? are too scared to play it in case you might even like it?
while the tone of your posts is almost always pessimistic and sarcastic, it is well evident that you are actually interested in the concept of DF, and also well probable that you were even once a DF "fanboi" turned bitter over the protracted development period and withdrawn beta pushes. so despite the fairly constant doomsaying, i'd still be interested to hear how you found the game, if you've even played it at all.
Javac is right, anyone who does not agree that Darkfall is a huge massive success with over 40k subscribers and the best PvP sandbox MMO currently on the market is a sh*t-dumb bitter clueless troll.
