Hi kilkil2, thank you so much for the information. I just have couple questions/concerns about Aion that I'd like to be addressed from the experience in Korean Server.

    1. How serious is AP abusing in K-aion, are there mechanics there to stop guild farming AP off each other (like what is happening in C-aion)?

    2. Do players in kor server activately defend fortress now?

    3. What mechanics in kor server really helped to mitigate the botting problem? I heard the mechanic that forces players to log-in through aion website really helped, is that true?

    4. I plan to play a templar, will I be able to be successful in pvp with average or slightly above average gear? How much gear grinding should I expect if I want to get pvp decent gear?

Thank you so much for your help. I can't wait to play Aion, heh.

1.not as much as C-Aion i guess, but its serious enough if you want purely fair and totally clean game

And there's no such mechanics that perfectly prevent it.

    2. Nope, 1.5 is on test servers only. in 2~3weeks it will be out for live server i think.

    3. No, website etc never worked still tons of bots are in game. I and most korean

just don't care about it much i think. Since it's needed and bots cant own that huge wealth.

You'll see Aion's economy is big as much as United States and harsh as much as desert.

If there's no bots to farm some grind required stuffs(some Harvest, craft resources from mob)

    everything will be fucking expensive.

    4. Templar is good for poor guy. Glad is really suck if they don't have good gears.

Spiritmaster is best for poor guys, then Cleric/Sorc then Templar imo.

NOTE : I DON'T CARE MUCH ABOUT BOTS AND ABUSING/HACKS, AND HAVE NO INTEREST ABOUT WHAT/HOW MUCH ARE THEY DOING EXACTLY.

    SO STOP ASKING ABOUT IT.

SINCE IT EXIST IN EVERY GAME AND IT WASN'T ANY PROBLEM TO JOY GAME FOR ME.

Hello and thank you for all your answers!

    1) What's your opinion about rangers in a pvp group ? Are they that interesting ? Do they really have a slot ?

    2) You said rangers are the most fragile, but since they have range-attack, can a skilled ranger perform good and avoid being killed too easily in group vs group ? In your video I dont think the ranger gets attacked that much, so I suppose with training they just can have a better survivability than average ?

    3) Did your 6 men group face other good prepared 6 men group ? if so, which setup did you find difficult to beat ? (i think about the fact you've got 2 clerics, so 1 less dps)

    Thank you for your time!

Having said that,i feel if you must have a PVP,it needs to be done properly, witch none of the MMO's have come even close to doing. You need maps that offer a proper PVP setting, having a wide open space to PVP is not good and offers nothing to realistic combat.Think of it this way,if you were involved in real combat would you walk right out into the open and start challenging everything around you to a fight?no of course not,you should have some retreat, some cover to work with.

Well to be frank, it sounds like you don't really enjoy PvP very much if you think RvR is a weak approach  to gaming. Some people like the safety zone of just fighting AI mobs and the constant satisfaction of new items, that's perfectly fine, but others like more of a challange and excitement, which fighting simple AI instances can not provide, ever.

You say having wide spaces is not good, man you cannot be more wrong.Having wide vast spaces is the foundation of successful PvP, otherwise too many players get crammed into a small area  and will just result in mindless zerging, which gets really old, really fast.

Don't try make comparisons between  MMORPG PVP and real combat, what for ?

Rather stick to what you know about, which doesn't seem to be PvP.

    1. With quite much toys Easy to kill, easy to be killed. Thats enough to describe Rangers.

    2. For melee attacks since Ranger have highest avoid rate in Aion by their self dodge increasing buff

they can have quite good survivability(required good micromanaging). But against magic anyway Ranger is most fragile.

    3. In korean server there's no such group for 6v6 at all.

We were only group for it(retired about a month ago though since i quitted)

few time we had chance to fight 6v6 it was just easy..

Note : Korean never wanted/liked any kind of 6v6 fair sport thing(AT ALL I CAN SAY).

They just liked to farm AI, zerg for APs. Too sad its 100% truth.

Theres just no single group for G v G

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE ASK SOMETHING!

    1. There's no doomed class in most situation. Everyone have their job and Aion cater for all each classes

    2. Stop asking directly 'is Templar good in 6v6 group'  'how about Glad/Templar in massive fights" thing.

The question is too extensive and there's no general answer. It's sometime good sometime bad.

Everything is up to each situation and your style/taste(plus your mate's).

If you want to ask something like that, tell me what kind of person are you first so i can advice follow your taste.

First I'd like to, like so many others, thank you for all this awesome info that have answerd alot of my questions already.

And second, I'd like you to bear with me, since I just made it to 9 pages and suddenly noticed there were 21 so kinda felt cba bout it :p

Either way, I'd like some answers bout rangers.

    1. As far as manstone socketing goes, notcied how many times you wrote that Rangers is the class that got the least armor/hp and is thus rather easy to kill.

Would it therefore be advisable to socket alot of HP/Evasion/ManaResist or should one focus more on the offensive ones instead?

    2. Since I read that Rangers got the most burst for the first 5-10 s. (and hopefully does more then 50% of the targets hp)

Would it be doable/recomended (in lack of another word) to do a smaller Group for GvG consisting of Ranger, Ranger, Chanter/Cleric and do some sort of Guerilla tactic where the rangers kills of one target asap, retreats and then gets back to pick em off one and one.

Thank you once again for all the info

    1. Each type have their strong point and weak point.

I think it's VERY hard to get enough amount of them all.If you are enough hardcore gamer

you maybe able to achieve two point on around top from DPS/ HP/ Magic Resists/ Evade.

    2. Good geared 2 Ranger used to kill a target in 2sec.  That strategy is common and working very well.

Good geared Ranger can deal 3000-5000dmg in 2sec(more than 50% hp for non taker classes)

But some of their skill is based on random damage. Sometime 1000dmg in 2sec, sometime 5000.

    Good luck!

If you have time, please answer this one question - I have asked other people and no one gives me a straight answer, and I trust your opinion :)

I greatly enjoy classes that can do two things:

one, flexibility to play offensively or defensively as the battle calls for it

two, interrupt/manipulate/confuse/shut down whichever enemy player/enemy skill we will most benefit from

Can you tell me which classes would excel in these areas?
I assumed any classes with stun/knockback/fear/etc will be able to do a little of this, but there is no one class that stands out to me.  Rangers seem to practically be ranged assassins, with big spike damage but less average dps and not as much utility as I would like, especially since traps seem so bad.  I guess chanters and spiritmasters are the closest to what I'm thinking of, but I have not played past Lvl 20 NA beta, so I am going off of what I have read :)

Spiritmaster and Ranger is mostly good on it. Spiritmaster is mor CC focused one, Ranger is DPS one.

Its in too specific area I can't say what to play. You gotta check out their all skills and decide it imo.

(Chanter would be good for you also)

  • LaNagueLaNague Member Posts: 1

So how is the new jump shot affecting rangers (that you cant combo whith jump canceling animation)?Still good with kiting and spike?

I basically cant decide between Assassin (spike), ranger (spike, CC) and Chanter (CC, utility) :D

Answering that question would help me :)

Thanks so much for the info kilkil2! I have just a couple of question on some of the classes which i hope you can answer .

    1) The Sorcerer:

How would you rate their DPS? Many people are telling me that they lack a bit in the offensive.

How is the Mana regeneration? Do they need to restore full Mana after every fight?

    2) In you opinion what class would you say is the best DPS/Healing Hybrid class?

    Thanks for the replies!

kilkil Thanks so much for this post.

I have read the entire thing.  I quit WoW and have preordered the Collector's edition of this game.  All the talk of DAOC-like mechanics and strategy and keeps and fun is getting me excited beyond belief.

Long live meaningful PVP. Long live Aion!

Would it be too DAOC-esque to proclaim, FOR ELYSEA!

Although I still don't know what to play.  I guess I'll try em all out this Friday during beta preview.

I've only ruled out Sorc, Assasin, and Ranger.

BTW This post should seriously be stickied!

Can you tell yet if any classes are getting nerfed or buffed hard enough in 1.5 to make you change your recommendations about them?

That's not changed in live servers yet.

Test server users said before 1.5 jump could cancel 2 skill's motion at one jump, but after 1.5 its only for 1 skill.

If you like to play as solo i recommend Assassin,Ranger and prefer to play as group then Chanter

    1. DPS rate on stunned target : Assassin > Ranger > Glad >= Sorc

Since melee class need to stick on to target to hit something..

DPS rate on a moving target : Ranger >= Sorc > Glad > Assassin.

Mana regen is very slow, you gotta doping lots of potion or need restore time.

    2. Question is weird. DPS/Healing Hybrid classes is only two(Chanter/Cleric)

surely Chanter have better dps than Cleric.

Yup DAOC-esque class role&group play + some WoW style stuffs +  Starcraft'ish battle pace = Aion imo :)

1.5 Isn't out yet on live servers. But i heard still melees are dominating game(especially on PvE part)..

Hey Kil is there a stat you can raise that will increase the chance of CC landing specifically melee. I was thinking of playing a templar and they have a couple of pull abilities that i hear get resisted half the time. Is there anything i can do to increase my chances they work?

    Cheers

Most CC effects from melee attacks regarded to magic ability

so get some Magic Accuracy to land any kind of CC from melee successfully

Really appreciate your effort in responding to all our noob questions, many thanks.

My question is about healing range. I've played chanter to 20 in NA beta and Cleric to 26 in CN Aion and I've noticed that the heal range feels very small. It feels like about half the heal range I see in WAR and being so close to the action makes for a very exposed feeling as a healer. I don't recall having to be this close to heal in Daoc either.

    1) Is there any way to increase the heal range for either a cleric or chanter?

    2) Is there anything special you changed with your gameplay to compensate for having to stay in such short range?

    :)

Yes thats true. Aion have very harsh environment for healers.

Its hardest game for Healer classes ever i played.

By my experience i can say this

'All the dps classes have advantage of easy attacking(auto follow) and dps is kinda outrun healing speed

while dps classes is on ease to performing their role, Healer classes really have to struggle

to kite from huge dps classes then required extreme teamwork for heal

(because of short range, long casting time and xyz axis, very exposed and our armor is too fragile )'

By kind of those reasons there's no much active healers for RvR in our servers(HARSH).

Also Healer class is totally boring compared to Assassin/Glad/Templar.

But they are just too important and core for group play.

So to role healer classes you've got to sacrifice and practice.

All the point of view is from mine who is HARDCORE PVP MANIA

    don't forget this :P

  • kilkil2kilkil2 Member Posts: 153

I forgot to mention about coming 1.5 patches.

It's not out yet in live servers but i heard that PvP damage reduction is a bit noticeable

so its better to heal and fight longer now.

Quote from some test server user's saying

"Now  shortest fight like Assassin VS Ranger can stay more than 2-3sec ,

now there's real strategy and real micromanagement "

Good thing. 1.5 bringing too much changes in game.

Kilkil, I was wondering if you could answer a question for me too please ;)(Hopefully it hasn't been asked already, if it has please excuse me,lots of posts here to read)

How big a role does AoE  or PbAoE damage play in the game ?

Like the BW from WAR, it could literally turn the tide of battle with the right timing of AoE stuns and Morale abilities.

Can the Sorcerer/Gladiator(or any other Char) have Pbaoe abilities like the Chanter/Wizard/Spiritmaster from Daoc to really fight zergs with ?

    Thanks
