I think the Britney Spears comparison is pretty close. "a packaged product aimed at teenagers".
Listen, I know you are not really here to discuss anything and only say the dumb shit you do, because you think you are a clever antagonist. Just don't break your arm patting yourself on the back ok?
William shatner, Mr T, Ozzy Ozbourne, Vern Troyer, Jean Claude Van Dam, etc. Sorry to break your obviously weak arugment once again, but those are not icons to children that blizzard is using to advertise wow. Those are characters, actors and entertainers that adults associate with from their past and present. Most of them had their careers peak long before your teenage audience was even born.
I could go on, but why bother. You have nothing to back up your claims other than your malicious posting. Again, don't break your arm.
In the mean time why don't focus your keen peepers at your love EQ2 and see what demographic that game appeals to. Start with helping Twiggy Fizzlebottom recover her lost Jum Jum stalks that the mean bixies stole from her kitchen. If you recover 6 of them I hear she will reward you with your very own fairycake! Yippie! Now that is some serious adult entertainment there. Nothing the children would be attracted to. I even hear you can become a cute butterfly fairy person too. Woopie!

If you're going to compare wow's success to Britney Spears, please elaborate. Does any of WoW feather target specifically at teenagers? Raiding is such an element that only teenagers are interested in guys!
next time you conclude with an analogy, make sure you have a high enough level of education to fully analyze what you're saying.
As to why a lot of people hate WoW, no one has a definite answers. There are different reasons coming from different people. And I'm sure it's not hate as much as "not liking it". While I cannot base my assumption on any statistic or crap like that, it's pretty apparent that people like grandpagamer here hate it to be the cool antagonists.

Just quoting what you said. You just dont get it do you? Not everyone thinks that WOW is as wonderful as you do. Get over it, and yourself, for you are just another rabid fan of something that not everyone is going to love. As for EQ2 I like the game and feel it is superior to WOW. But do I feel the need to convince you and everyone else of such like you seem to feel the need to convert the gaming world to WOW? Your hatred for everything SOE is as pathetic as you love for something as trivial as a video game. Vanguard is dead,, go back to the Vanguard threads and celebrate with the rest of those that know so much better than SOE how to run a company and when you tire of that go sit on a mailboxy in IF with you buds and talk in trade chat about how big your sword is.

This is one thing I never get to understand. How cool can it be, just being the trouble maker?
I know a baby intentionally screws up and makes trouble because his innate insecurity makes in imperative for him to gain mom's attention. But for someone able to find this message board to post, is he/she long past the days of milk bottle? Can he/she find better ways to be a "cool" guy?

World Of Warcraft doesn't suck. It's just boring as fuck because blizzard is going after casual player's. (They tend to be noobs)
Why is the truth so hard to understand sometimes? Even if you admit the game is becoming more and more like this, WOW still isn't going to perish. Seriously it's going to be around for years to come. Relax Max.
I would think that some of you would welcome a little bit of criticism. Wake up the game needs some help. So help it. Some of the posters have never criticized the game as far as post histories go (not all of you). The game was casual enough as it was, but this is getting silly at this point.
This is not the evolutionary path that many of us want to see within the genre, and it's a sad day when a company like blizzard jumps the shark to this degree. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we don't see too many upcoming copycats. Ya right.
These are mmos for god's sake! WTH are you guys on! Will you slurp down any milkshake Blizzard blends up for you?
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb

Just one comment, your first paragraph, and not meaning to be a criticism, just an echo.
If I do not like a game, I move on, I mean no ill to that game or its community. I see no reason why I need to wish demise for a game.
Take SWG, I really feel sad it goes the CU & NGE route, I left. However, I see no need to wish for its demise.

Not sure how you took my first paragraph the way you did. *shrugs.
I feel sad about SWG too, as I never got to play it. WOW will always be special to me as It was my first mmo, and I did enjoy it for a time. Keep in mind almost all of us have played the game. The direction the game has been going though is why I comment. If you think all is fine and dandy more power to ya. Enjoy your game.

What a great post this is:
You also forgot the terrible "whank, whank" the girl made for losing ler lost Jum Jum.... and I had to save her from her grief with a character with ... little wings on my back.
Coming from WOW and seeing this in EQ2 ... it looked like I stepped into a horror movie for 3 year old kids . Never touched EQ2 again... after I quited that dreadful zone and ... had a tunneled loading experience walking up to the next "fairy tail" zone ... I simply knew why EQ2 was dead on arrival. It couldn't even handle a candle against the stadium lignhts of WOW back in 2004.
Yeah real adult stuff... this EQ2.
EQ2 is ancient history, sadly it never really cut it when it was new, its another of those titles that SOE have that is currently on life support, along with Vanguard, SWG, etc.. i think EQ1 is still more popular than EQ2 how sad is that!

You forgot to mention how WOW now has cross server grouping. First original thing Blizz has done in 5 yrs and you usually find a way to insert that ray of sunshine into the conversation. No compensation from Blizz on this one.

Why are you so filled of hate? eq2 is a great game, and so is wow. I have played both since 2005 and i would say both games have their childish quests and their more serious content (don't forget all those wow quests where you dig though shit). I enjoy both (although i remember that horrible voiceover for that child in the greater faydark start area).
I never understand why people hate games, no one is forcing you to play something you don't like. I dislike pvp, that doesn't mean i hate pvp games...
WoW is polarizing alone by the amount of people who know it and played it. It's having very strong points going in favor for it and there are lots of reasons why I wouldn't play it again and what could be improved. It has millions of fanboys and there are millions of gamers who wouldn't touch it.
Why in many threads people bash WoW? Well, a good amount of those bashers are trolls. And WoW is the perfect target for them since everyone knows WoW and so the chance of replies are very high. And some of those people ain't trolls but think there are really some issues to discuss. And again some people are just in a bad mood for some reason. Oh, and some people are WoW-gamers from the first hour on who are annoyed that the game is piss-easy now.
Its the biggest MMORPG ever made, most popular, highest earning, and by far the most dominant. It'll be a long time before an MMORPG overpowers WoW, and with the new graphical update with Cataclysm, add a few more years onto that. The Lore of WoW also makes the limit of expansions quite high indeed. Why would Blizzard stop making a game that makes them billions? Only when WoW becomes very unpopular will that "crime" be dealt. So basically, I'm wondering why that with everyone thread posted, someone comes along and insults WoW. With 13 million active members, all paying £10 per month, it can't be that bad a game, can it? So why dis it as frequent as people do? Thanks!
I will give you my answer why, because for every good thing you have listed I can name you a few things that wipe all that out . It ushered in the era of the "i want everything now" player type , it has dumbed down MMORPG gaming to the point where most games now have no real death penalty, everything is instant travel , and it looks like utter garbage graphically and you have a whole freaking generation of MMO gamer who thinks WoW invented everything when in fact the game has zero originality concept wise. It just took bit and pieces of every MMORPG before it and put warcraft on it.

Lol fanboi.
The majority of players on there are 25 (as stated in a survey); HOWEVER, there is a minority of players whom have ruined the game for others because of their e-peen and "how I must big up my e-peen, mon."
The game is only as fun as the people you play it with.
People that disrespect WoW don't give it the chance it needs to present itself.
It can be an incredibly fun experience running a 5 man with some buddies you met in your guild. Just hop in vent, lol @ how John ran the wrong way and aggroed the entire room.
And it's the same with raiding. Sure, there are a lot of bitches out there. But if you can find the right guild with the right people, who can be serious enough to get things done yet not be douches about it, you can have a ridiculously good time.
It's not the fact that WoW is such a good game, it's just you can have a lot of fun meeting and playing with new friends.
There's also the great feeling it gives you when you grab that shoulder piece that gives you just enough SP to break 6k dps, or like the first time you get defense capped or whatever.
There's so many feelings of accomplishment you can have while making your character stronger, faster, smarter and better.
It's all in the way you play, my friends.
Playing: *sigh* back to WoW -------- Waiting for: SW:TOR, APB, WoD --------- Played and loved: Eve and WoW -------- Played and hated: WoW:WotLK, Warhammer, every single F2P
WoW sets standards. And aside of a knee-jerk response along the lines of "eat shit, billions of flies can't be wrong!", it has impact on the MMO world in general. Thus just saying "then don't play and be done with it" does not cut it.
The reason why (some) people hate WoW is that it, indirectly, influenced and sometimes even ruined their games. WoW is the biggest MMO in existance, by magnitudes. I don't know if it is still that way, but at some point WoW had more market share than all the other MMOs combined. Since every MMO maker out there is doing it for one main reason, subscribers which translates into money, they look at WoW and want to know what made WoW this big. So they start copying features.
What they ignore is that there are people playing their MMOs for exactly the reason that it is NOT WoW. That it's not ez-mode leveling, that it's not basically mindless facerolling, that it doesn't have a cookie-cutter "get these items and these talents and you're best" setup, that its crafting system requires more than "get enough materials and push a button x times", that it's not a gear arms race ... that it is NOT WoW.
But more and more games are either turned into WoW clones or games that come out mimic WoW to the point that anyone has to wonder why not play WoW altogether instead, which is finished, polished and for the most parts bug free, instead of being essentially beta tester for a new MMO that doesn't accomplish anything but being the next WoW clone.
That's why people who don't like WoW keep complaining. Because their games, that they loved because they're not WoW, are turned into WoW in an attempt to attract more people. It seems it didn't get through to MMO developers that this is, if anything, a surefire way to lose the subs they still retain.

Great post! wholeheartedly agree...
I have to say I dont hate WOW.. Heck I played it for about a year and a half, and enjoyed myself while playing it. It certainly did alot of things right. Personally I like a little bit more challenge in my games and artistically I prefer a game that has a little more realism to it... or grit?
Games like Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion and even WAR graphically were more appealing to me than WOW was, which I realize to some graphics dont matter but to me it adds immersiveness, which is one of the things I look for.
Now on the playstyle. Games that encourage teamwork much like Vanguard and EQ1, are much better choices for me. The whole Solo mentality that WOW brought along to the MMO world has ruined most MMOs in my opinion. Dont get me wrong, I'm not against solo gameplay. But WOW took it to a new level. A level I did not much care for.
In a gameworld that is designed to meet new people and play with new people WOW made PUGging at Derogatory term. Something before hand wasnt considered a bad thing.

Yeah real adult stuff... this EQ2.
I dislike pvp, that doesn't mean i hate pvp games...
im sorry i have to agree with you wow and eq2 are two very solid choice
wow is more for the average player in term of comunity
eq2 is for adult no doubt about it,lot of ex-wow player left to eq2 because wow had become too unfriendly and too mean
lot of couple play it too, like i say its an adult game and since its been ongoing for as long as wow
the lower lvl are like wow mostly empty but when you reach the high level then you see where everybody is at
for pvp lot are frustrated in eq2 because it is arsh .i havent understood it fully but the way i ear i can go up fast but you can go down fast to
and sincwe eq2 as 3 faction good, neutral and bad.it makes for a livelly game
if one go neutral let me tell you he ask for trouble since hes hated on both side (true there is a nice little debuff that prevent ganking)
eq2 is more gothic and armor look more realistic then your average game.the armor will look like the way it could have look back then
no smooth armor here since they had to be banged into shape you ll see the smal dimple from the hammer blow
but trust me ,with a fair computer not many game look this realistic and this good.some dont like the gothic style tho
Given your own opinion on WoW's merits and its clear financial security why do you or anyone else care what anyone else thinks/says about it? Isn't its unprecedented success all the reward it seeks? Does this thing that you consider entertainment need the approval/endorsment of others (aren't those subscription numbers that answer already)?
The real issue is why any of us need this kind of question answered.
MMO's are somewhat akin to TV soaps, more often than not they become like an addiction you watch/play through the good and the bad, often despite your awareness of better uses of your time.
At the end of the day what makes an mmo a 'success' and what makes a one-off game 'good' are in fact two very different things.
Consider; what is the real function of an MMO? its not a single point sale like any other video game, raw entertainment and satisfaction is not the overiding aim, what they are looking for is an ongoing commitment - addiction is a real goal for them - and the designers use many tools to achieve this, a good number of these tools actually exploit the more dubious (and often non intuitive) aspects of the human psyche to keep you coming back.
when I compare WoW as it was in November of 04 to any game launching today...the new games are the ones that seem like hollow shells of games.
Because they're all trying to imitate WoW's business model and failing. And that's the problem. Too many MMOs are imitating WoW. I'll admit one thing: As much as I hate it, when it came out WoW was innovative. Now, all the MMO makers are trying to imitate it and it's diluting the quality of MMORPGs. It's like how inbreeding dilutes the gene pool and causes retardation and malformities. You need to mix it up a bit or the whole genetic code falls apart. MMOs are the same.
Thanks!
So the OP taught me WoW shouldn't be hated because.
It's the largest MMORPG ever made (I'm sure he means sub wise, if he is talking world he is out of his mind)
Most Popular (WE HAZ PPL)
Highest Earning ($$)
Most Dominate (Blizzard is a Shadow Priest sploiting MC?)
Graphical Update (A -> A)
13 Million Active Members (uhhh...WE HAZ PPL, again?)
Lore (Night elf mages, Undead priests are the right way)
So, what makes the game fun?
OMG, "graphical update A -> A"......that made me spit coffee on my keyboard!

Umm I think the term is pwned.

Keep it on topic guys.
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
I will give you my answer why, because for every good thing you have listed I can name you a few things that wipe all that out . It ushered in the era of the "i want everything now" player type , it has dumbed down MMORPG gaming to the point where most games now have no real death penalty, everything is instant travel , and it looks like utter garbage graphically and you have a whole freaking generation of MMO gamer who thinks WoW invented everything when in fact the game has zero originality concept wise. It just took bit and pieces of every MMORPG before it and put warcraft on it.
That's why WoW is hated from my viewpoint.
Lol fanboi.
The majority of players on there are 25 (as stated in a survey); HOWEVER, there is a minority of players whom have ruined the game for others because of their e-peen and "how I must big up my e-peen, mon."
wow is the only mmo people are silling to stand in hour long que for.
Take my town for an example, its not a bit town, but we had 400 people lined up before the release of wotlk(same with tbc)
In paris there where 5000 k and so on..yes that shows passion.
Playing: *sigh* back to WoW
--------
Waiting for: SW:TOR, APB, WoD
---------
Played and loved: Eve and WoW
--------
Played and hated: WoW:WotLK, Warhammer, every single F2P
Woopie!
Yeah real adult stuff... this EQ2.
I dislike pvp, that doesn't mean i hate pvp games...
im sorry i have to agree with you wow and eq2 are two very solid choice
wow is more for the average player in term of comunity
eq2 is for adult no doubt about it,lot of ex-wow player left to eq2 because wow had become too unfriendly and too mean
lot of couple play it too, like i say its an adult game and since its been ongoing for as long as wow
the lower lvl are like wow mostly empty but when you reach the high level then you see where everybody is at
for pvp lot are frustrated in eq2 because it is arsh .i havent understood it fully but the way i ear i can go up fast but you can go down fast to
and sincwe eq2 as 3 faction good, neutral and bad.it makes for a livelly game
if one go neutral let me tell you he ask for trouble since hes hated on both side (true there is a nice little debuff that prevent ganking)
eq2 is more gothic and armor look more realistic then your average game.the armor will look like the way it could have look back then
no smooth armor here since they had to be banged into shape you ll see the smal dimple from the hammer blow
but trust me ,with a fair computer not many game look this realistic and this good.some dont like the gothic style tho
since at time its very gloomy and dark
Graphical Update (A -> A)
13 Million Active Members (uhhh...WE HAZ PPL, again?)
Lore (Night elf mages, Undead priests are the right way)
So, what makes the game fun?
OMG, "graphical update A -> A"......that made me spit coffee on my keyboard!
I just had to say thank you for that....LOL
