very true, WoW is ok for beginner mmo players
Ok for beginners why? So hopefully they'll tire of WoW eventually and move on to the other half-assed, half-baked garbage titles that populate this genre like turds that refuse to be flushed?
One day you will see what a dumed down easy mode game WoW is.
But I expect that not to be any time soon...
Ok, which are advanced user fantasy mmos? Just for discussions sake why don't you name a few of those hard fantasy mmos for comparison.
Personally, I think LotRO is a musc more enjoyable game with a much better community. But that is, of course, my opinion.
Well most people that play WoW are 10 year old kidz.

Or people, like me, that have been playing MMOs since UO original flavor and are NOT 10 years old, but rather in their 40s. There are people in my old guild in their 50s. FFS, there was one couple in my first WoW guild that was in their 60s and came from EQ.....
This whole, "only children play WoW" shit...is just an over-used generalization that really carries no weight whatsoever with people who are in adult guilds (and there are a LOT of those) and know that it's just a crock of shit line used by WoW haters.
STFU and.....
Go back to Darkfall.
(LOL...I love saying that, since that is one of DFO fanbois' FAVORITE things to say, in reverese.) If your game is so awesome....go play it, for fuckssake.
wher e do you get your numbers from at all 13 mil active rolf they never have had that ever lol . i love wow fan boys they dont even know how many people are active. last may they stated they have sold over 12 mil accounts... sold not active , they counting all the accounts that been banned and rebought and bann'd and so on. there peak active members was around 8 mil about 2 years ago .... and if you know anythign about blizzard go look up the company called THe 9. and check out how blizzard lost over 5 million accounts last june, and still have not gave them back yet. to many people are leaving wow . and just coing back for 1 month ayear to play the new content. then finding out its still crap and going back to other games.
wow atm has about 4-5 mil active accounts as of 2 months ago last tiei check.

I will agree with you on that ONE point.....LotRO has an exemplary community. Probably, along with EQ2, one of the very best out there. Actually....better than EQ2's, because admittedly, at least on my server, EQ2 community can become a little elitist and I don't find that as much with LotRO.
But again....these are generalizations and don't account for the entire player base in any of the games we are mentioning. Just like if I said, " All DFO players are complete asshats." That might apply to 80 percent of the population (or maybe not), but in no way would it be reflective of the WHOLE.

The question was not what game do you enjoy more, but what fantasy mmo is for advanced mmo players. You know, to back up your claim that wow is for beginners?
Why you chose to bring up lord of the rings is beyond me, because that game plays almost identical to wow, but with less features and options. It is not a game that any wow player would have the slightest problem playing.
I dont think WoW is a bad game, it just isnt for me. For those who play it, it is fun and what they are looking for. It was marketed correctly, used a highly popular IP, and came out at the right time to hit big.
WoW is basiclly the MMO version of the Spice Girls. Not the best thing out there, but people want to pay for it no matter.

lotro may be similar to wow but it is lacking one thing wow has and that is the overwhelming amount of obnoxious children and if the other "missing feartures" that wow contains keeps the mental midgets from lotro its all the better.

Too bad other MMOs suck more than it.
There's not a single MMO at the moment that entertains me as much as L2 in C2-C4 did a long time ago.
The game was horribly broken in certain parts, but it had better character interaction, politics and hlarge-scale PvP than any game at the moment. Because if I wanted simple PvE, RPGs are far more better. And if I was so obessed with RPGs that I wanted to have multiplayer PvP in them, I'd just play Diablo 2/Demon's Souls.

I'm pretty sure i just wrapped up this thread but if you feel like continuing the stupidity be my guest.
There seems to be a general consensus that certain games, by either design or shear luck have a more mature community. The games I hear are FFXI and LOTRO. I'm sure there are a lot more, but those I have a personal experience with. I have also played WoW for 4 years, but loved the first two years infinitely more than the last two.
From my personal experience, the community in FFXI was light years ahead of WoW's. I enjoyed WoW for many reasons, the community was never one of them. I completely understand that some people don't care for community, that's fine, some of us do.
I have yet to see a single person argue that WoW community, as a whole, is anything worth while. Instead, you get arguments like, "well my guild is really tight nit." Or, "I have a great group of friends on my friend's list." The difference is, in games like FFXI, you had a great friend's list, a great linkshell (guild), and a great SERVER COMMUNITY. I've asked myself why WoW community is so craptastic, and I've come up with a few reasons. Again, just my personal opinion.
1. WoW has a gigantic player base which means you're going get your 13 yeard olds going through puberty. But it doesn't explain why as a percentage, there are a lot more elitist douche bags than other games. Or maybe, and I do concede this in all sincerity, it's human nature to notice the bad more. Because wow's volume of subscribers is so big, you get a lot of d-bags along the way.
2. WoW's design engenders elitism and douche baggery, more so now than when it first came out. For example, I hated the introduction of DPS Meters. In vanilla wow, it wasn't as important, but now, you have applications asking how much dps you can put out before being accepted. It's no longer a game, but rather a job application. You also see a lot of people making fun of people in "blues and greens." People being kicked out of pug raids simply by the perception of their skill based on their gear, which may be more than enough for the encounter, but perception is reality in the world (of warcraft).
3. The ability to easily transfer servers, change names, change factions, etc. This means you can be an a-hole on your server, ninja loot, chat spam, and just bring down the server to the lowest common denominator. Then when you notice you can't get into any guilds, you change your name or transfer out. Also, You can be a douche bag by being an officer in your guild, go through guild drama, decide at 3:00 a.m. in themorning to "loot" the guild bank, vendor and AH everything, make 123210931 gold, and transfer out.
4. You can reach end game in two weeks, and you can be fully epiced out in another two weeks by heroic grinding or getting into a Naxx 25/Ulduar run with some friends. This again takes the concept of instant gratification to a whole new level. So you run the same instance for 4 months, get a new content patch and run another instance for another 4 months.
The elitism and sense of entitlement in WoW is more than I've ever seen in any other game. That's why there's such a strong resentment by people who hate what WoW has done to the MMO genre but also by people who used to LOVE WOW during Vanilla (I'm in this category).
The elitism comes from the fact that as the biggest game WoW becomes the only one who's endgame matters. If you've done it all in WoW endgame you win. Obviously this standpoint is flawed beyond reason but its like playing Baseball here in the States or playing it in some under developed country. It doesn't matter what the smaller country does because a considerably smaller group of people care.
It's simple, they hate it because other people on this forum hate it. they can't think for themselves, have to go with the crowd.

LOL, I juust try to ignore the EVE elitist on this site, the only reason they are in the forums is that it takes so long to get anywhere or do anything that they have plenty of time to read and post while playing, my suck games don't allow me such freedom.
Well most people that play WoW are 10 year old kidz.
Or people with no prior MMO experience.
Epic fail!!!
however you look at it, at least 80 percent of the MMO community have played, or are currently playing World of Warcraft. Do you seriously think that those kinds of numbers are achieved by having a bad game, that all the players are kidz, or noobs, envy, thats all it is, it may not be my favourite game, but its a game i do enjoy playing from time to time, and i really do hope you dont think im a 'kidz' or a 'noob' the fact of the matter is, that because so many people play World of Warcraft, you are more likely to meet people that fall into that category, its just simple maths. All games have them, even Eve, though in Eve the option of hulling and podding them does seem to be effective
so, if you dont like noobz and kidz, choose a game where you can kill them
I'm not into PvP, so there'd be no point in that. I like questing and raiding. But let me give you some numbers:
60 people I know play WoW. Of them, only 6 played any MMO prior to WoW, three played Everquest, two played SWG, and one played Guild Wars (and was a guildie with me there until he defected to WoW). Extrapolating that, it would be safe to say that at least 60 - 75% of people who play WoW currently most likely never played any other MMO previously. So, maybe the behavior of most WoW players is because they never experienced the etiquette and protocol that, on other MMOs, would've gotten one reported, suspended, or banned. I never read such racist, sexist, or derrogatory language in any MMO chat before WoW and haven't since. If THAT'S who's playing WoW, why would I want to? It's like /b/ with broadswords. I'm a 31 year old father, for chrissakes. That sort of behavior stopped being funny when I was 13.
Oh yeah, I guess the eastern market also fits this logic.
It still confuses me why people are still playing it. WoW is so out-dated and stale now isnt funny... To each their own I suppose.
How's Aion going for you? Or have you MMO hopped yet? Oh, wait...forgot...Aion is busy copying everything from another infinitely-more-popular yet out-dated and stale MMO, so it might actually get interesting...eventually.
Some of the points Hrayr made are valid to an extent; however, they are the same with many MMOs out there, just magnified to a greater scale. But point 4...I'm sorry, but no. The type of person that would walk into a store, buy the WoW battle chest and WOTLK, install it for the first time, and fire it up, then get to end-game in two weeks? That person would be able to do that in ANY MMO out there, and wouldn't stop until they had. Find me a "normal" person new to WoW that can be in Icecrown in two weeks. No, sorry.

Funny how some people here talk about maturity, when even /b/ makes more sense than you guys.
You'd expect more from people that aren't in their 10's,but it's a MMO community after all.

This forum hardly speaks for anyone. There are as of now 1,152,689 members and out of that number 206 are online. People don't hate the game because the forums tell them too, they hate it because it truly sucks.
This from the guy that has an avatar from Excel in Space? Oh oh oh, I know, it's the intrigue and subterfuge of one group of nerds trying to outsmart other nerds for control of virtual money and static backdrop planets! Or PVP that I could engage in while folding laundry. Or character advancement that doesn't even require the person to be *playing*....
Please. You say if WoW was a persons first MMO they have no opinion. I think the opinion of EVE players should be disregarded as well, since they obviously enjoy floating around rocks for days at a time.
LOL, I juust try to ignore the EVE elitist on this site, the only reason they are in the forums is that it takes so long to get anywhere or do anything that they have plenty of time to read and post while playing, my suck games don't allow me such freedom.
My Thoughts on Content Locust
It still confuses me why people are still playing it. WoW is so out-dated and stale now isnt funny... To each their own I suppose.
"I play Tera for the gameplay"
No, sorry.
