This, i think everyone in the community is willing to give both sides the benefit of the doubt.. but there have been rampant rumors lately within the community of GM abuse.. and then this happens and not even a peep from anyone on the aventurine side other then "contact support" which is just gonna tell him the same thing.. Sorry for your loss. Aventurine has made it clear they won't refund items.. so if thats the case all a GM has to do is abuse his power and then go Oops sorry having a bad day deal with it.. and its all good? I don't think so.
Even when you lose items due to crashes they won't replace them.. and this happens quite frequently..
OMG I lost my MANOWAR BECUZ OF CRASH!!11!! AV GIVE IT BACK!
This is just an exemple. If AV were to refund items to players whenever an issue happens, it would take quite a while to fix as many players would claim to have lost something. Having employees looking over every claims is the worse idea possible which is why the "No Refund" policy is here. As for crashes, usually whenever that happens there's a 45 minutes rollback from what I recall (There was one just yesterday I believe).
Or it could give players the feeling that AV cares about them and is willing to fix problems that they may or may not intentionally/unintentionally caused
And B1ght, you are blowing this out of proportion. The GM made a mistake and teleported the player. But why did the GM have to interact with the player in the first place is what we have not been told. Mistakes happens and this mistake by the GM was far from gamebreaking. It's unfortunate and Bill did not contact the Support (which may have fixed the issue). I'd be more likely to blame AV if the player had contact support, but it's not the case, he chose to QQ on the forum.
I don't think this is being blown out of proportion. The GM did make a mistake, but he made no effort to rectify the situation in the proper way. He should have went to a supervisor and told them the problem, and then they could escalate the problem to the proper team. Instead, the GM told him to "Go away, and fix it yourself"
As for contacting support? Yes, he should have immediately done that instead of making a scene. By making a scene, he only made it worse. As I said earlier, if he would have just followed procedure; even just to humor them, maybe they would have given his stuff back.
This part more then anything, the GM should have told him I will contact support and get your stuff back.. not O too bad so sad deal with it yourself....
I've stopped playing again, but I have a friend that still plays DF on the NA server. His alliance has recently been attacked by an alliance with a dev clan in it. They have been sieging their cities and hamlets non stop for weeks now. They even brought the two largest most expensive ships in the game. So expensive that larger alliances can't afford them. They have already lost a hamlet because these guys can somehow afford to siege them over and over almost every day. The best part is when someone stole the clan in question's Ship of the Line, possibly a hacker. He went to my friend's city to try to deposit it in their bank, and was killed. Imagine their surprise when they looted the second best ship in the game off this guy. The ship was given to their clan leader, and he banked it. The next day, the ship is gone. He got no explanation from the gms, and was totally ignored when he petitioned it. Guess what showed up outside their city a few minutes later? The enemy clan with their ship of the line which was returned by a dev . Other ships have been stolen, but not a single one has been returned. Even ships that were stolen by hackers. "Sorry we can't return lost items" has always been the policy. But for some reason they changed the policy for one clan. Guess why?
P.S. The clan in question has been known to have developers in it's membership since before the NA server launched.

Any evidence to prove or disprove would have to be gained through illegal means. The ship of the line story can probably be confirmed by anyone in the carnivore alliance on NA.

Lol tell the world what? That Darkfall has a crappy GM that made a mistake one time? Shout it from the rooftops!
World! Consider yourself warned.
This thread is very humorous. I've actually seen people mocking it in game in Race Alliance chat several times already. For those that don't play, this chat tab is known for being a cesspool. It's best not to even read it for the most part. If these guys are all making fun of you, don't hold your head up too high.
Dude, LOL who cares if people in DF are making fun of anything, its not like DF is popular or matters, if it was WoW or even EVE then it probably would be a different story, its like saying someone is making fun of you in Neocron or something who cares.
But appearently dramqueens dances already for 15 pages here about that song. DF is too important and these matter is too big for the world to not know about it seems.

I can confirm it (the ship story, at least). The corpse was found in Serruk (an allied city), and the ship looted from it.
However, the recent loss of a Hamlet was simply a result of not enough defenders showing up. We repelled them with ease the last time (and the two sieges after that), and it appears people got over-confident.
Yeah, they tend to bring half the server when they attack.....we still have been able to repel them for the most part, with the exception of this last siege. I'm willing to bet that if they try another siege on mainland Cairn in the future though, they will meet some pretty stiff resistance.
As to there being developers in the LOD zerg....this I cannot confirm. It could very well be a rumor, nothing more. We fight these guys on a daily basis though, and I've never seen anything that led me to believe that devs, admins, or GMs were abusing any kind of power in-game.....we've just had some really good PVP. These guys bring it hard, and it's always a good fight.
pfffffff, this is the reason that posts about thinks like this gets locked. 1 a gm his power are limited 2 he made a mistake. 3 he asked the player to contact the persons that could help him 4 who says that he wont get his items back?
i bet you this when he gets his items back there will be no forum thread about it, and if there is it fore sure wont be as long as this one.
If he does get his stuff back make no mistake, most of the negative posters in this thread will not be making an appearance in a any new thread created to let people know.
Sounds like just a mistake... Hope you get your gear back via support ticket!
Not that I think GMs and employees never abuse their power, but you probably wont hear about it if they do because they will do it discreetly, not by stealing items/teleporting their enemies around. That is just asking to be caught...

The GM in question should have done more than just say send a support ticket. I agree it's just a game, but the GM didn't show any professionalism at all, and game or not the guy is a paying customer and deserved a little more action than what he got.
Maybe that is all the GM is allowed to do. Did you consider that? I doubt the GM refused to help this player because it was funny. Any GM knows, unless they are in with the devs or administration in some way, that doing something like this on purpose is not allowed. By the same token, it could very easily be that the GM made a mistake with which player was teleported, and did not have the authority to do anything about it. Maybe if the player had sent a support ticket, another GM, or the same one, would have been allowed to do something.
Aventurine has done some silly things, and it is obvious they are a poorly run company, but I doubt this was deliberate.

Looks like the GM made an honest mistake and here's why I say this.
Last night this same GM sent me a tell and it looked like he/she wanted me to send them a tell but it looked like it was a tell for someone else. Since my character was playing himself I originally thought the GM wanted me to message the person he messaged possibly to prove that I was at the computer. I ended up just sending the GM a direct tell and he/she told me that they made a mistake and that he/she was sorry for the mistaken tell.
Ya know...I might not have thought this well on my feet if I made such a crappy mistake as the GM had, but it would have been nice if the GM had just teleported the looter to the other side of the map. Would have been a whole different kind of funny, but perhaps justifiable.
Read through around 60 of the replies couldn't finish em all so sorry if this has been said.
The part I find to be most ridiculous is the GM has the power to teleport players, but not res them? Load of BS or their GMs actually don't have the power to res players?

Why would a GM need the power to rez? GM powers are delegated to handle a very narrow range of situations. They can usually teleport someone to fix *stuck* issues, teleport to someone to observe, send system messages, kick/temp-ban to get rid of hackers/macroers/spambots/etc.. and thats pretty much it.
The power to kill, revive, create items, spawn creatures, etc wouldn't be given to a normal GM.
The "victims" main problem is that he seems to think the GM could actually do something to rectify the mistake, and is simply refusing. Thats not the case at all. The GM literally doesn't have the power to help him, which is why he referred him to support. If the guy had sent in a ticket and was told tough luck, he might have a leg to stand on. Instead he just pissed and moaned like a 12 year old on the forums, which obviously isn't the place to handle something of this nature. Atleast until other options have been tapped out.
Oh god, I never thought hearsay can completely fuck up the telling of something this much.
I read the original thread posted by the guy who got killed. All of the following was said by said guy and a guy who looted a few things.
The guy was all geared and ready to kill mobs with his staff and reagents when a window suddenly popped up asking whether he wanted to accept a GM teleport or not.
Thinking that it would be wise to, he accepted it.
Bam, he landed in an Alfar city. The tower attacks him. Some guy shoots him twice. He dies.
The GM apologizes and PMs the people near the corpse, asking them to not loot.
The guy who shot him twice got 2 staffs or something. The rest was taken by other people.
What was lost? A few stacks of reagents, some staffs, and his gear.
From what was posted when I read the thread, I'm pretty sure the guy who died and lost his shit pretty much accepted his loss. Posting on the forum was to let people know, and to get some laughs.
Then, the thread gets deleted. People start telling other people. Crap spirals out of control, and you get this thread.
That post sounds angry, but my impression was that his posts slowly lost his edge as he posted more. Of course, there were people prodding him and such. Forumfall after all.
I think two people who watched him die also posted.
