Sounds like a grand way to treat one's customers, and make money.

Oh for fucks sakes, for those that are currently paying or are Lifetime subs the game is not changing AT ALL. The classes are not changing, the way the game is played is not changing, for those that will become vip's access to game features IS NOT FUCKING CHANGING!!!. The ONLY thing that is chaning for VIP's is that they are getting 500 points a month plus those gained by playing to spend on the entirely optional items in the LOTRO store. The only other change that will affect VIPs is the influx of f2p players that will be coming in to try the game out and if my experience trying out DDO's f2p again this past weekend is any indicator the community won't change one bit, the lowbie areas will just be jam packed with players 24/7 which is mostly a good thing imo as both the advice and general chat was full of people asking and answering questions and in all the time I was on this past weekend I didn't seen anything resembling Barrens chat, and I was on from pretty much 3pm-12am on both saturday and sunday.

Oh I'm sure when LOTRO f2p first launches it'll get it's share of rtards, but that will pass and things will go back to normal.

YOu cant read, and only really have one word in your vocabulary.  The game is changing.  They have said so themselves.  VIP members get the best deal.  There are going be 3 tiers of players. Each tier gets something different.   If your not vip, you get the short end of the stick, by loosing the number of toons you had and bank storage, and bag storage.  So yes the game is changing,

Meanwhile I pass you a bar of soap.

He can read im sure, but you fail at reasoning. Yes they create 2 tiers of customer below subscribers, how does that affect subscribers? And yes, they dont get the same bells and whistles as subscribers, but guess what, they are not paying 15$ a month either.

Turbine is giving you a choice, think subscriber benefits are so hot? Become a VIP. Think the game isnt worth 15$ a month? Play free or premium. The nonsense you spew is like saying 2nd class passangers in a plane are getting the short end of the stick because 1st class is so much better, well duh, take 1st class then.

And for the lifetimers who dont get it, future content will be free for you. Because thats the whole point of being a VIP. There might be whole expansions that are not free, but they werent free before either. Difference being you now get free points you can use to buy those expansions, where before you had to pay real $.

I just bothered to log into DDO and check what they have in their store and at which price. Then i checked what sells best, and lo and behold it was useless crap like XP potions(10 and 20% for x hours), loot drop potions and other crap like that. Im not worried about those, zero temptation. Just look at it, its nothing like Runes of Magic or those other crappy F2P where you have to buy literally everything with $.

    Not quite:

Q: If I decide to downgrade from VIP to Premium player, what will happen to the gold I have earned through gameplay? Will I lose the gold beyond the 5 gold cap that Premium players have by default?

A: If you downgrade from VIP to Premium player, you will not lose any of the gold that you have earned through the game. Because you were a VIP, you will not be subject to the gold limit of Premium players.

Q: If I decide to downgrade from VIP to Premium player status, what will happen to my inventory bags?

A: If you downgrade from VIP to Premium player, you will not lose any of the inventory bags that you had as a VIP. Because you were a VIP, you will not be subject to the inventory bag limit of Premium players.

Q: If I decide to downgrade from VIP to Premium player status, what will happen to my wardrobe slots?

A: If you downgrade from VIP to Premium player, all items placed in the wardrobe will be held on a remove only basis. You will be able to access them and remove them from the wardrobe to use them but you will not be able to use the emptied slot to Store another item. At any time, you may visit the LOTRO Store to purchase more inventory bags or more wardrobe slots.

Q: If I decide to downgrade from VIP to Premium player, what will happen to my characters?

A: If you downgrade from VIP to Premium player, you will have access to 3 characters slots per server by default. You will also have access to any other character slots that you have purchased. You may decide to unlock more slots if you want to play more characters or pick the characters you want to play. Your other previously created characters will be visible but not accessible unless you unlock more character slots. At any point, you can unlock more character slots in the LOTRO Store, up to 11 per server.

Q: I purchased the Mines of Moria™ Expansion and/or the Siege of Mirkwood™ Expansion. Can I still access this content? Will I still be able to play my Rune-keeper or Warden characters? What if I unsubscribe?

A: When LOTRO Free-to-Play becomes available you will still be able to access the content and features of any expansions you have previously purchased. Whether you are a VIP or a Premium player, the content and features of these expansions will be available to you in their entirety.

If you decide not to join the VIP program or decide to downgrade to Premium player status, the content and features of these expansions will still be available to you. You will still be able to play your Rune-keeper and Warden characters as long as they are in character slots you have selected or have unlocked by visiting the LOTRO Store.

Q: I purchased the Adventurer’s Pack or got the Adventurer’s Pack for free when I pre-ordered the Siege of Mirkwood™ expansion. What will happen to my 2 extra character slots and shared storage bank with Free-to-Play? Will I lose anything if I unsubscribe?

A: The benefits and features of the Adventurer’s Pack will remain available to you. Whether you are a VIP, Premium player, or Free player, you will get to keep your 2 extra character slots and shared storage bank.

If you have not purchased the Adventurer’s Pack and you want to extend the number of character slots you have (max. of 11 per server) or you want to get more shared storage slots, just visit the LOTRO Store to purchase the items you need as you need them.

You are so correct ..... why everyone knows it takes a P2p game to keep the riff-raff out.

Oh by the way, I have some beach front property for sale on the Tyranny server in AoC.  I'm sure those wonderful P2p people will welcome you with open arms.

So really what your whole argument boils down to is that you're an elitist douchebag. At least that is what I'm getting from the above whine.

While I don't agree with the needless "elitist douchebag" comment, I am coming to the conclusion that F2P for LoTRO and almost any other game is a plus for me, especially since I was a VIP and will be a premium member. I get to take in a load of the content and get to choose what content I want permanently. I could buy a content pack and then continue F2P until/unless I really want or need to upgrade to VIP. It's a win-win. And a bonus is that LoTRO becomes more stable and less likely to go belly up. To the naysayers: Don't make judgement until it happens. This is a completely speculative discussion, and no one here can say definitively if this will suck or not. I think it will be a good thing, but that remains to be seen as well.

Oh, come on. We all know that in the entire history of P2P games, there have never been any idiots in any game anywhere. That $15/month subscription is too expensive for the knuckle-draggers and mouth-breathers. They couldn't possibly afford it.

Nope. It's only the F2P games that get all the spammers, l33t kiddiez, tHe ShIfT kEy ImPaIrEd, as well as exploiters, hackers, botters, and jackasses that just want to ruin everyone else's game experience. P2P games are as pure as the driven snow.

All sarcasm aside, I'm beginning to think that this F2P thing MIGHT be just what we need to filter out the less desirable elements of the MMORPG player population.

I mean, if they can play games like LOTRO for free, they will....meaning less of them remaining in the P2P games for the rest of us to put up with.

This might be just what we need to finally draw the line....too bad LOTRO had to play sacrificial lamb, but it might be all worth it in the end.

Block them. People already do block players for random chat that they don't like, this isn't going to be any different, with the exception that it will probably be a larger number of players being blocked.

Haven't seen this happen in DDO why would it happen in LOTRO. I actually met the guys in charge of taking care of the gold spammers for Turbine and they really know their stuff. Do spammers still get by? Sure they do but Turbine has them pretty much locked down to where they are almost not even noticed.

This whole series of events has caused a sizable disturbance in the atmosphere or vibes about the game. Comparable to how Frodo may have felt when returning to the Shire as a hero, only to find it turned into a huge crock of shit by Saruman near the end of the LOTR story. A cold churning in the stomach now instead of the tranquil serenity experienced during a good pipe smoke of weed in a local Inn.

I have 2 lifetime accounts.   One for me and the wife.  We have been watching this game falling apart for a year as more and more of the folks we knew who played with us in beta have left.

Going ft2 has done nothing but turned the turbine forums upside down, and those threads are pruned quickly.

I call it what I see it,  the 9.99 and the 15 buck sub plans were not enough, they figure they can nickle and dime folks to death now as well, and added the new milk the lifetime member function as well.

Plain in simple this is not building a better game, this is re-hash of old content and offer it up the the new kids on the block. It has become more about greed and getting more players than actually delivering a quality game.

Maybe buisness is forcing them to attract more players if they want to keep delivering a good game? I know the whiners think developement waned due to this F2P developement, but if thats the case alot of MMO companies must be working on a F2P plan currently because i see it in many MMOs.

Besides its not as if its the Lifetimers are getting nickle an dimed, not even the VIPs. Its just the free players who want everything the lifetimers got, as a lifetimer, dont you think its fair they have to pay for that just as you had?

So, tell me...how does a game make MORE money going F2P then, if everyone plans to play for free? Hmmm??

You might PLAN on playing for free...but I think you'll end up paying far out the ass. In fact, Turbine seems to be banking on you paying MORE than a P2P subscriber would...otherwise they would just be giving their product away, and would see no profit, right??

    It's bait-and-switch, lure-and-shaft.

    Good luck with that.

Turbine's new motto should be "A fool and his money are soon parted".

Seriously, what's your issue? :) Why so much hate? You have been proven wrong on every claim you brought up, the only one that had a tiny hint of truth was a question of community. Ripoff will not happen, as nothing changes for paying customers - no matter that it has been told a zillion times, you still bring it up as if it were true.

One cannot help but wonder why you are full of so much hate for an issue that does not even concern you?

Eh, LOTRO was boring anyhow (IMO) and I am not sure what their F2P system is ....BUT- Think of it like this.

I can go to Cedar Point (or Disneyworld, Kings Island, whatever) and play a flat fee to acess the park and ride ll the rides all day long. This is P2P....OR I can go to the locall fair for FREE and get nickele and dimed to death for every cheap ass ride I want to to ride . Looking at it  overall, riding a ferris wheel at the local Carnival  just 30 times is the same price as a ticket to Cedar Point where I can ride Coasters all day long.

There is no "free" to play. There is "free" to log in or "free admission"-

I also know there are flaws in my comparison but without getting technical it is a very valid point.... A family of 4 drops more money at a stupid carnival than at an amusment park with far less being offered.... To really play for "free" you are so limited as to pretty much not ever be competitive.

DDO had (has) the best F2P system I have seen thus far and if that method is being used for LOTRO (as I said I have no idea- ) then at least thats the best model- But its still a rip off.

    Correct assessment.

What the hater trolls fail to (or rather, refuse to) accept to realize, is that Turbine is introducing this model parallel to the existing P2P models, while making sure F2P players can IN NO WAY get any advantage over P2P players.

One sentence, so simple to comprehend, once read. Whoever still refuses to get it, is in serious denial, and should better have questions about his/her own issues and motifs.

How will they make money?, crap if I know or care, probably the same way I get to keep buying economy cars; because someone else is keeping the car company afloat buying luxury SUV's.  But I'm with nariusseldon on this.  I don't have to spend money to enjoy myself or my lvl 35 warden I already have.  Nr. 1 there are quests I passed over on my way up I can do, Nr. 2 there's the book quests I can do or Nr. 3 I could even re-roll and take a different way up.  And since I already have MoM expansion I've got a lot of room at the top I can work towards ....... for free.

I played DDO when it was P2p.  $14.99 a month for 3 months or $44.97.  I've been playing DDO F2p for what 7? months now and only the end of last month did I drop $19.95 to buy some TP to pick up some Adventure packs I wanted and that's wanted, not needed.  I got Sharn, 3 Barrel Cove and will get the Carnival one when it comes out.  None of which are on the must buy, most XP list.  There just one's I think will be fun, which is why I play.  So back to money, P2p system $14.99 a month or F2p system .51 cents a month

OK it's not totally free, but half a buck a month comes pretty darn close.

Now I will say that I think playing LotRO will be more than DDO, since I see a difference in buying Adventure Packs vice Zones, but it you budget, spread out your purchases and don't try to complete the game in 1 weekend, I don't see why anyone could dump a bundle a month on it.  Unless they're the same types that have to have those luxury SUV's.

    SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

Wrong.  This is not even close to bait-and-switch tactics.

Next time, before you try to use a term in fearmongering tones, please look it up first.  Because, you have shown us only one thing... your lack of understanding of terminology.
