As a matter of fact it took the playerbase from billions to just few hundred. 99% of the population quit just because lovehina21 quit.. so i know im not in the wrong here.

  • Seems like we will get awesome PvE game without PvP.Like you need to work to get something, you need to do progress to get some dungeons completed. (Not like clear dungeons 30 times like walk in the park and get full epic gear in 1-2 weeks)

And no PvP  (like omg im high lvl than you so i can kill you or 3vs1, 8vs2 stupid unfair combats etc.)

Final Fantasy XIV has awesome mmorpg features, what im looking forward to play..

    Some are, some aren't.

And they all sure as hell want to tell everyone their opinion on the subject!

But in the end what they think doesn't matter. What matters is if the game is good or not. No matter how you diss or praise the game if it's good, it'll be successful and if it's bad, it will fail.

I don't see what the problem is here, there is plenty of PvP games out in the market. Go play Warhammer if you really need to PvP.

The Final Fantasy MMO's are PvE games, although FFXI had Ballista but i never bothered with that.

The problem is that every MMO should do everything, or they're "a step backwards".

This is the only genre where people think like that, which is too bad. MMORPG's should do it all, or they're not good MMO's- and when they should also be innovative, one of these things is not going to happen.

I quickly lose the fear of dying with PvP, because I die often, when the fear of death is gone it gets boring. I also don't care if someone is better then me. I don't care if I lose. (Which is good, because I usually lose against my husband)

I played PvP in Ultima Online, DaoC (mostly battle grounds), WOW and WAR, also other MMORPG's but that was so short, that it isn't worth talking about.

In WAR I leveled mostly from PvP.

Anyway, not everyone is into PvP, I am more into PvE then PvP, but I can enjoy it for a short time.

My husband enjoys PvP more and plays it more often then me, and he finds PvE boring. Still after a few weeks of PvP he gets bored of the game, (actually usually less then a week).

I play longer PvE then he is playing PvP.

But just to be fair, some will say "but i like raiding and collecting itemz".

    ....

so lets say you do get all the gears, u can 1 shot monsters now,

    GOOD JOB ...

you know what happens to my ps3 games after i hit max lvl or beat it?... i trade it in.

im afraid with all the games coming out FFXIV will fail.

but if one doesn't care for pvp then they dont' care about competing against another in combat. It's a moot point.

More often than not, people who aren['t into pvp concentrate on other aspects of the game. Whether it's raiding, role playing, crafting, socializing, making alts, maybe a bit of controlled pvp here and there, etc.

You are trying to make an argument for something that is not recognized as worthwhile for a segment of the mmo population.

Just as fans of more hardcore pvp games bristle at anyone asking for pve servers or safe zones I think there is an equal reaction from people who want to experience a world for the story and environments while doing so in a social manner.

I don't understand why people on both sides of the equation can't understand that people are different.

Maybe this is why humanity never learns from its mistakes.

    What about PVP?

We have the same stance on PVP as we had in FFXI, we're having a focus on PVE, but we may introduce some sort of sports-type that might be tied to PVP in the future. What we're worrying about is that we dont want to have any PK'ing or harassment types of activities in the game. So in order to provide a safe environment to everyone and a game to enjoy. So we're not focusing on PVP.

If you must have PvP in the MMOs you play; then just like FFXI, FFXIV will not be the MMO for you.  There are 380+ other MMOs that have some form of PvP in them that you can choose to play, so go play one of them!  One or soon to be two MMOs that are focused on PvE only is not the end of the world, but it seems so many of you think it is...

Don't listen to the carbear. As proven time and time again, the power of players moves an mmorpg. If Square thinks it will be a good business descion to add pvp to the game they will.

Actually if FFXI is anything to go by they won't. Square tends to focus on what the game needs as opposed to what the players want. It's one of the reasons FFXI has managed to hold so many long term subscribers because they don't randomly switch up the founding concepts of the game on the whims of minorities within the playerbase.

If what a game needs is not what players wants then that is a recipe for disaster. Players usually dont buy things that they dont want.

Not saying this game will have PvP just pointing out the apparent fallacy of that statement.

I'm sorry, I know some people love and live for PvP and I'm fine with that, but not ever game needs it.  I PvP once and a while and enjoy it when I do but this recent "must have PvP in every game" push is getting old.  I just can't tell where story line in a Final Fantasy world would call for "pwning a n00b" in it's setting.

Huh? Doesn't everybody want their FPS's to have in-depth crafting and resource collection? And I believe Peggle's ganking system leaves a lot to be desired.

That's a fantastic number to be sure, but the problem being that anywhere from 40 - 90 percent of statistics are made up on the spot unless based on fact.  I'm wagering this is a on the spot moment to try and give fire to the point being made.  I don't remember one person I grouped or linked with ever mentioning the acronym PvP in FF, mainly because they are busy enjoying the PvE game they are playing.

Exactly, there are far more entertaining and exciting things to do in PvE...like the massively-huge list I posted a few pages back.

To the PvP numnuts:  Do any of your PvP MMO do all that!?   ...don't answer because I know they don't...you have PvP arenas, battlegrounds and minimal open world encounters, grind instances over and over for obsolete gear in a few months, useless crafting cause everything from instances is far better and hrm...there is nothing else to do at end game...

Really? O_o I can't remember the last time someone did any PvP in FFXI, it is never even brought up besides in threads like these. Majority of FF fans don't care and would rather have PvE focused content... sooo I guess SE wants to please their fan base, nothing wrong with that...

I don't care if they don't have pvp, but i'm not going to be hurt and complaining on forums for hours on end if they add it.

Yay for friendly community centric gaming (something PvP kills)

    Yes they do,

A quick and excellent example is Lineage 2  Winner of best PVP game of the year in 08 or  09 cant remember.(fact btw)

IF u havnt played it let me tell u there is only 1 way (besides killing epic bosses that take 50-100+ players and getting that many people organized is a rare occasion).

the dwarf class is the only class that can craft items. after lvl40 u cannot buy any gears from npc's for ur characters. max lvl is 85 so everything from 40 up is craft only.  so a good clan would have thier own crafter that makes gears for everyone, or u can pay someone to do it .   and if ur thinking "what if i get scammed for giving him my items". well you dont because he opens up a store with his crafting services for sale, and then u pay to craft the items never leaving ur inventory.

how much they charge u is up to the player.

And to the person that said they never heard someone say pvp while playing FFXI is because you cant. u cant even switch a button to become pvp or flag or anything. u just sit there and wave at eachother.  Collecting gears farming and questing is to become stronger.  but becoming stronger and having no way to utilize it is kinda pointless to me.

after the first year of FFXI numbers droped fast from servers, cuz everyone was reaching max lvl and got bored.  PLus the most important thing about pvp is monopoly.  How many linkshells camped NM's 24/7 and sold spell scrolls and armors over priced?  u couldnt even hunt it urself cuz they had timing and everything.  with pvp at leaast u could try to kill them and take the NM for urself. causing balance in the market.

    = Scent to bed =

i beleive that as in 1 of the previous posts

pvp (open or RvR) is unacceptable at all in the FF world ballista was not exciting and dumb if u ask me btw

but in FFXI i thought it would have been nice to have nation vs nation pvp fights over some land that maybe a boss spawns or something to the effect

    pve is great ..but

when u get to max and u have good gear what are you going to do? ..wait for more pve content ..which yes is fun for another month and for those of you that dont like pvp at all ..thats cool have fun its why u pay to play the game..so you can play your way but at the end of the day all your doing is out smarting the AI of a game...theres a certain gratification of knowing u out did a person thats why we pvp

yes leave it for the hardcore ffxi people, who get the huge gratifictation of going on a journey for 5 hours for 1 quest. Yes leave it to the hardcore ffxi who get that sense of accomplishment for camping a NM for hours on end. Yes leave it the hardcore ffxi people to wait in Jeanuo for a party for somthing slowly realizing that the most populated realm only has a max of 2000 people on a good day. Guess people got bored of all the b/s.

Yes I do get a huge feeling of enjoyment spending a great deal of time on a lengthy quest or mission cause FFXI is breaming with excellent story-telling, and yes I have a great feeling of accomplishment after spending hours camping an NM and earning a better piece of gear to use or sell to another player.

However only a fool sits in Jeuno {or now Whitegate} with their flag on doing nothing for hours on end, you have a keyboard and hopefully the ability to talk appropriately via tells to other players seeking, form your own party, or heck just grab 1 or 2 other players and pick a zone to sync in and chain-kill easy/decent prey mobs while doing Fields of Valor, or do a 3-man BCNM.  On top of all this many of the new storyline missions in WoTG can be easily duo'd and trio'd with the proper setup.  And with the lvl cap increase to 80 on Mon, after players start hitting the new cap, older content that I've had difficulty in getting help for will now be easier to do with fewer members.

I can see the point many have with  long boring ,meaningless quests, but at the same time,a game that pretty much hands over FREE xp for anotehr shorter version of a dumb, meaningles quest is equally as lame or bad.The ONE huge difference is that one game is making you work a bit harder for your rewards, the other seems to be insecure about keeping their subscriptions,so they tend be more easy mode.

Think about it from the developers side of things. Why woudl they waste their time creating a quest,if al lthey reall ywant to do is hand over easy mode xp?The answerr is rather obvious is it not?It takes no effort to create afast simple quest and by handing over easy mode xp ,it USUALLY keeps the non real MMORPG'rs happy,to keep paying for that subscription. It says alot more about a develoepr,IF they can keep their subscriptions even though they make the game more tedious and harder, does it not?

This game is for the faint of heart.  Scripted encounters ftw.
