Would be great if the game wouldn't crash during every interaction for me.

Off topic, but I have noticed since Beta some people have either providers or anti virus stuff that just hates Rift. I think every single patch they have had they ended up with anti virus stuff causing issues. They had a major issue with certain providers who kept throttling peoples connections.

I've no software on my computer except for the games themselves and VOIP, there is no visible reason. I have to log in sometimes several times just to get to the character select.

I find it hilarious that even with published articles and information internet trolls feel they have a better grasp of what's going on in a company, or in a game they don't even play. "Well we don't know if that's active subs or blah blah blah..." either way they have sold millions of copies of the game and is not losing players at a rapid rate. They seem to update very frequently, have tons of world events, and had a stable launch. I don't even play the game anymore, all I know is what I read. Trion did a good job. People, stop pretending you know everything about the state of games based on your theories, internets posts, dislike of a game, or our stupid x-fire numbers. More than likely you've done no research on your own, and know absolutely nothing.
The game is successful. It's a themepark. Deal with it. And for the love of god stop citing X-Fire... it's a joke.
This isnt entirely true. When the game was released they kept on adding servers out of necesity, they mentioned then they sold over 1m copies.
Fairly recently they had (mass) free server transfers, not out of luxury. While Im more then willing to believe the vacation did attract some new players and managed to get players to return, its unlikely they regained or even surpassed their numbers.
Coming from a core raiding guild its increasingly harder to maintain members. There is a reason why so many.. more advanced guilds just.. stop.
Then again what does it really matter, like others have stated before. Its definately a decent game and Trion clearly is trying to keep their players while still trying to attract new customers.
Is rift really the 2nd largest mmo out there? Probebly.. who knows, but regardless of how people feel about this game, the market definately needs the competition, we''ll all benifid from it.
Idk if Rift is the second largest mmorpg in the west , but it could possibly be atm. All i know is that i picked one server out of the
bunch..didnt study on which server was the most popular at all , and the server has a very healthy playerbase and in prime hours of the day sometimes i have 30 mins que times. Even at 4am there is still people running around. 4am warfronts are still popping within 5 mins. The games is in good shape..i personally havent ran in to alot of bugs but doesnt mean there not there.
1 million paid customers is not that far fetched.. i actually play the game and see the healthy playerbase with my own eyes!
So if you wanna argue about wether or not its a lie or some marketing ploy?..feel free..have at it. Truth is no one really knows for sure except Trion , and on that note who really cares.
Rift pulled off a successfull launch..plus maintained there stamina for the past 6 months..yes some lost inetrest that goes for all games. Lots of people bought it at launch some people left , lots of people stayed. So ya there was a decrease of players for a min, as all the mmorpg hoppers hopped on than hopped off. But now the game is showing a steady increase of players instead of a decline.
Just because you dont like the game doesnt mean thats its not a success. You dont like it so it has to be fail right?..ppssh get over it.

There definately was a big play drop off, but the server transfers resolved most of that. But you are right.
Its a shame how few seem to understand the market needs the competition, it will encourage investors when they see there is hope in investing in anything other then WoW, its good for WoW, blizard will have to work (harder) for their money.
Bottom line is Rift is a good game and atleast to me even if I deside to quit it today, I think it was worth my time and money.
I don't understand ... RIFT isnt free! Why does the website show it as a free one when you have to buy it and pay monthy subs ... Yea it has a free trial but that doesnt make it free ... sigh!
Rift currently has 60 non trial NA and Euro servers. During primetime a little more than half the servers are high or full the other half medium. EQ2 3-4 years ago had a pop of 200k with 16 total servers.
The rule of thumb before WoW used to be take a servers peak population and multiply by 5 (assuming 20% online at once) to see the servers population. With the MMO's become much more casual I would expect that likley only 10-15% of a servers population logs on during prime. Certainly that number will have gone down the last 7 years.
If one assumes the number is 15% one would multiply by 7. A Full Rift server holds 3500 players. Medium is 1500. Most servers during primetime will be a bit over 2k. Thats 14k pplayerbase per server x 60 servers. That would be roughly 840k and is a conservative estimate. If we move the the numner down to 10% which may or not be more likely then we would be at 1.2 million. If we used the old pre-WoW model of 20% we would be at 600k.
Either way they have quite a healthy player base. Depending on the math one uses one can believe their claim of 1 million present subs. Although no matter what math anyone uses they almost certainly did have over 1 million subs the first 2-3 months of release with 99 quite full servers.
People become deluded by WoW's numbers, Besides WoW and Eve no MMO has had over 200k western subs more than 2-3 months after release since WoW's release. EQ2 flirted with high release numbers but dropped quickly down to 100k before eventually growing again to the 200k figure a year or two after release. AoC and Warhammer were ghost towns a month after release. Everyone quickly left Aion.
Although SWTOR may or may not be the one game that changes those numbers. As like WoW they will be in a unique position to keep attracting new subs after release to possibly compensate for what they lose in subs.
This is completely wrong.
Browsing through a site that hsows when servers reach different population levels it shows that of 35 NA servers only 10 have ever reached 'high', and most of those for about an hour tops. Not one single server in the last seven days has been full.
I remember at the end of my second month checking out some of the servers and found a server with less than 300 people online as 'medium' (made characters on both sides and checked populations via /who). 300 is an insanely low number of people to call 'medium' even in a world as tiny as Rift. And there are about 4 or 5 servers that have never even hit medium in the last 7 days. So 1/7 of the NA servers are ghost towns.
And yes, at launch most servers started high/full, and now have dropped down to mostly medium/low with teases of high. thats a significant dropoff.
Population trends show that rift has leveled out though and seems to have been holding steady sub numbers. for the last couple months now. im betting its leveled out somewhere around 350-400k which would make their boast correct.
Rift endgame is the worst i've played. I've done T1,T2, Expert Rifts and i'm currently leveling in PvP but it's not very fun. I hate raiding, Raiders is a very small percentage of mmorpgs playerbase. We need solo instances, casual friendly raids, story driven raids with different steps. WvWvW map. Delete Quests. add Dynamic Events.
You know what endgame needs, i hopefully did'nt really have to say what rift endgame needs.
I don't understand ... RIFT isnt free! Why does the website show it as a free one when you have to buy it and pay monthy subs ... Yea it has a free trial but that doesnt make it free ... sigh!
Like the WoW advert.... Firelands patch, play for free....err no you cant play firelands free.

Well you are right in that it will make WoW work harder, they realize cataclysm isnt popular and are ending ti soon, and adding in a top player requested future that they never wanted to put in in the first place(appearance armor).
But a lot of people think the market does not need THIS competition. Its a soulless game that just carbon copied other game elements but without the flair and scope WoW did it with. Rift is safe, and Rift is generic. But its very polished and is having new raids often. So polish + raids = hit? Thats not what a lot of people want out of MMOs.
The last paragraph sounds more negative towards Rift then I really feel about the game, because the devlopers did do some things right. The PQ system was a promising development to MMOs and it seems they are doing a decent job with it now (it was boring at launch once you realized how similar everything was). The soul ssytem is still a mixed bag to me, but I am in favor of more choice overall so its definitely a step in the right direction (though they carbon copied the wow three talent tree system into it...how about adding some actual interaction between the souls you choose...like specific abilities for justicar/sentinel combo for instance).
Rift is taking a quick dive downhill, it is already facing same issues as World of Warcraft but doesn't have the leisure of a big player base. Real guilds blow through end game content, others often don't even try it. PVP is a much worse grind than vanilla Wow was for a number of factors, such as smaller and quicker BGs where one team often just gives up and sits the entire game in their graveyard to get their points for the loss faster. The game looked very promising in Beta, but turned out to lack any long term appeal.
Rift is still doing relatively well only for one reason, people are waiting for new games. It will be in for hard times in near future.

But does this website list WoW as a free game?
Obviously there is a deal between MMORPG and Trion. there are ads of course, but stuff like listing Rift as free and a decent amount of pointless fluff articles shows that the site is doing some more discreet advertising. But hey, MMORPG isnt charity so its not exactly wrong.

RAID guilds falling apart is the worst way to measure a games success.
Back in Vanilla WoW (before TBC even) I saw RAID guilds falling apart left and right during those 2 and half years I played the game.
On my RP-PVP server back then, my guild was the only one still standing (together with 2-3 other RP guilds) after TBC launch. Because we were non-raiding guilds.
There are very very few succesful RAID guilds that last very long... simply due to all the drama, fighting about loot, raid times, participation, forced commitments, etc, etc.
The guilds that are most succesful in MMO's that exists for years on end are actually the more "casual" guilds that don't or hardly ever RAID ! Much less drama and fighting... people just playing for fun, together, when they want, with no obligations.
I am in the same EQ2 guild for years! I am in the same LOTRO guild for years! All NON-RAID centric guilds.
The few RAID guilds I ever tried in the past, I always left within a few weeks, some even within days. I got totally fed up with all the drama going on in those, the fighting... and above all those guild leaders and officers acting like complete fascists.
Rift is still doing relatively well only for one reason, people are waiting for new games. It will be in for hard times in near future.
Maybe, but it also depends on what Trion have up their sleeve. An expansion could fix the issues and let the gqame at least keep it's current playerbase.
But if they just sit on their butts doing nothing then you are right.
If I would be Trion I would try to add in a lot before TOR, TSW and GW2 releases.
Obviously there is a deal between MMORPG and Trion. there are ads of course, but stuff like listing Rift as free and a decent amount of pointless fluff articles shows that the site is doing some more discreet advertising. But hey, MMORPG isnt charity so its not exactly wrong.
Yeah and WoW offering free trial CD's for 5 years straight at every distrubutor...Wal-Mart...K-mart...Sears is not the same thing right. I think Amana?!?! or whatever said they were checking into it.

1. Your hardcore guilds or progression guilds as you call them are getting their ass's completely owned in Hammerknell currently. I think maybe 0.005% of the playerbase has cleared up to Sicaron and that is 7/11 bosses into Hammerknell?
Oh so impressed by all their talk of wanting challenging content, but when they get it they say it is hard. Atleast some respectable guilds do not qq. I have seen their oh so great strategy of rush into the trash then qq when they get owned for using no strategy or cc. These are your top WoW guild players and all they did was qq constantly and hurry back to WoW. The place has had bugs and is not perfect, but the biggest bugs are exploits that these "top guilds" managed to find that were quickly snuffed out.
2. PvP is about as balanced as you can get it. Obviously you quit before they started separating pvp and pve damage which obviously was a game changer. They have gone from Archeatype to archeatype and put them in check based on the stats. The pvp seems much more fair then it used to be, but babies who can not one shot people anymore or thought 7k hits were ok qq about it...7k mind you 1k over 90% of the people health in pvp.
The point is you don't know if they have a million subs. Most are just saying Trion's lying or misleading with that number. You're basically saying that if people believe Trion, they are morons.
It's not like people are pulling this number out of thin air.
Personally I'm skeptical, but considering how active my server is and how many people play on a given night - I think it's possible.
Isn't AoC claiming over a million now too?
Wonder where all these players came from.
No, they claim over million people have played the game. It think they actually said something along the lines of over 2 million people have played Age of Conan. All they really said about sub numbers is that they increased times 4.
Now on to the topic at hand. I don't know if Rift has over a million subs or not and I really don't care hehe. If they do more power to them, if not that's fine too. I just hope that the people playing are enjoying their game.
P.S.
I use x-fire lol. But it's more of tool just for me to track my play time then anything else.
silverwood was packed is always packed lot going there just reacvhed gloamwood last night very late.still same lot of player around chilling out leveling and searching the lore.lot of pvper and raider experienced my first open world raid and let me tell you if the opposite faction ever came to silverwood i can honestly say it would be the most epic thing i ever experienced pvpve in a world raid scenario>hell ya i dig rift! ps:just to make things clear silverwood is a no pvp zone so dont expect this. i met the noob zone, the silverwood zone(no pvp)and my first ever pvp zone gloamwood, and god the scenery is insanely good looking if you usually play with game sound off PLEASE ADJUST THE SOUND OF THE GAME TO YOU LIKING AND LISTEN TO THE MOOD,it gives the chill.i was in web outpost south gloamwood gees i love the style of that place. anyway lot of lore(writen style via book and optional read if you speak to various npc.) i dont sweat it this game i like this game
