Not that I want you to stop supporting them. There's a lot about GW2 that excites me. I'd just like to see them make a course correction before it's too late and I can't stomach their business model enough to play.
But were not in some other universe we are in this universe which people claiming this cash shop is P2W is like telling that Einstein was some fratboy who never did any contributions to science.
And get over the butthurt. Your all in a huff n a puff because everything in not completely free. You got the wrong guy.
What I'd like to see is a sub fee if they need more than the box sales. I know they need money, but I don't want to play a game built from the ground up as a skin over a cash shop. I'd like to play a game where it doesn't matter if you make a doctor's salary or are a poor college student - you pay your entry fee then everyone plays the exact same game. I want my devs to be motivated to entertain me in order to keep my sub rather than intentionally frustrate me to drive me towards XP boosts.
EXACTLY. I am of the older generation with a good job and so gaming in general is so cheap it isn't even a factor. I pay over $200 a month on my cable bill alone. I'd pay $50 a month for a sub fee if the game was good enough. But I refuse to play a pay2win game on general principle.

There's some wonky stuff in that cash shop leak. But if people want to spend money on XP boosts and all whatever. I dont even plan on buying anything from the shop. I dont need an xp boost. No matter how little or how much I play GW2 I want to actually play it. I want to experience the zones and the content and truely earn what a I get, whether it be gear, or xp. Most importantly I want fun out of it.
As long as Im not seriously hampered in regards to those things by just playing, I'll just happily play. When you think about it, people with XP boosts are missing out on loot. They're moving from one zone to the next faster. Meanwhile it may take me longer to get there, and in the meantime Im interacting more, and killing more mobs than they are for the same benefit but those mobs drop things.
Which I guess means not only will they need to pay for XP boosts, but also mystery item bags and such just to compensate for the missed loot. Hahaha.....yea thats okay. I'll just play for that stuff thanks.
Cash shop means nothing to me. Its still not pay 2 win but it most certainly is pay 2 skip content. Lets be honest not one item that is offered in the chas shop is game breaking but instead is time saving which isnt that big of a deal. If you have a problem with these items then I sense you were never going to play GW2 in the first place.
So can you let me in on what it is a megaphone allows me to skip. How about those special keys, how much time is that saving?
Who the hell are you to come up with this? And frankly, it's quite the opposite.

So at the end of the day, there is no point in even discussing it with you since you wont believe anything said about them and have already generated a final conclusion on the game.

XP Boosts are really for Alt leveling. Not to say that you can't use tem for Mains...THey are meant to appeal to those who have already been there-done that and want a second toon but not have to go through every last bit of conent again.......Which given the premise of GW2 seems to miss the whole point of the game. But meh. to each his own.
Oddly enough, XP boosts don't bug me. In Anarchy, the Bureaucrat profession has party based XP boosts as a castable buff.

Me too. I've been 'in love' with plenty of companies in the past too. Profit motive is profit motive - if they've eliminated any means to gain income besides a cash shop, then they will use the cash shop to gain income. Games built from the ground up as cash shop games are built to allow the devs to easily tweak drops, mobs, etc, etc to encourage cash shop purchases. They won't need to tweak while they're rolling in initial box sales, but they will, they have investors, it is inevitable. This can not happen in a game without a cash shop - need more subs? Do it the old fashioned way - work hard. A sub game can't increase profit by replicating buff icons and increasing mob strength.
It sounds to me like you are too emotionally invested in the game to form a rational objective opinion about what they do.

If you asked this question a few months ago, many would have said "If the cash shop sells any items beyond purely cosmetic" which is what Anet was saying a few weeks ago. Now if you ask them they will say "If the cash shop sells any items beyond what you can get through the investment of time" which is what Anet says now.
The bottom line is, there are many who will just repeat whatever Anet says because they have already emotionally invested so much with them that it would cause even more emotional distress for them if they admitted they have been betrayed. It is sort of the same syndrome some people have in abusive relationships. It is just too hard to admit that thing you love has betrayed you.

SOME of the people who want to close their eyes and not consider that Anet's goal is to maximize profit sound like Apple fans. The game doesn't have a F2P item shop because it's better for you as a gamer or consumer - they're out to make as much money as possible without pissing you off. Here's some Kool-Aide
I should add, though it is implied, that they will keep going all the way to P2W if you let them. If they can spin it so the trusting minds accept it, they'll go there. This is the reason to put up a stink now - while it's in beta - before everything is set as a precedent.
I would have no problem with a cash shop game that had a sub option if they would keep the drops and mechanics seperate between sub players and free players. It would become immediately apparent upon comparison however, how they were gimping gameplay to drive people to the shop and therefore won't ever happen.
It would be cool if they had a subscription server and a CS server option. How many of you would choose the subscription server? I think I would just for the sake of simplicity. I wonder which server would win on wvwvw?
I actually love cash shops! I just wish the XP boosts were longer then 1 hour seems Like a terrible excuse to grind useless mobs. Id rather it was 1 full day XP boost or 1 week XP boost
Those who have played GW1 know very well that how ANET cash shops work
Even in the GW1 they had PVP packs that could be bought that instantly gave you all the skills and weapons for PVP and at the same time all those were also achievable thru playing the game. ( and no i didnt have to grind or spent countless hours or money to get those weapons or skills)
So, in GW1 I also did buy some PVP packs, storage slots and stuff so no big deal .It was convience rather than edge over others in the game

I would play on the subscription server and I have talked about this in another thread, but I would only want to play other subscription servers due to the RvRvR advantages you can get with items that you can purchase with gold which you can purchase with real life money.

Cash Shop in this game is nothing new, it's just the latest source of info we have. If you actually look at the items in the cash shop, NOTHING in it is gamebreaking. In many ways it's even better becase you can use in-game money to buy cashshop items (I for one will probably try and use in-game gold to buy extra character slots).
Honestly, I haven't seen any other cash shop with less significant items on the market. The only item that could be a bit OP might be the crafting boost, but the way crafting works in this game, you aren't really making the epic item, you're making the item and then buffing it to be epic, so it may be a non-issue.
It's kind of funny how everytime the slightest new bit of info is released on this game, we get a vocal minority who screams 'the sky is falling!' and then a week later, nobody cares. For those with serious doubts about the cash shop, there is a PRESS BETA right now, featuring the cash shop. So, if they do they jobs correctly, we should see some coverage on this highly problematic feature everyone seems to be so bent up about.

No one is really misrepresenting. Yes, I despise cash shops in games. Yes I really really do want to play GW2. Yes It irks the crap outta me to see it in there. But most of what was leaked. I might be able to turn a blind eye to.
What I cannot stand is when there are mechanics in a game that allow you to take real money and infuse it into the game and be able to conver it to other things.
If WoW suddenly introduced the new all purpose generic "weapon" of button mashing 1 hit kill IWIN epicness, I would have less issues with that (Oh I'd take issue, just not as much) as being able to manipulate the economy.

Actually, the pvp packs were there as a cheaper alternative for players that only wanted to pvp but didnt want to have to pay the full price amount for the game.

For me its not the items themselves that make the issue. Its the design philosophy behind a cash shop game. In a p2p game design choices are made ultimately for the better of the game. In a cash shop game alot of changes tend to be driven by oh if we add that we can sell this to make up for it. Attricion mechanics.
In a p2p game the worse you can accuse them of is adding mechanics to keep you playing, but if your enjoying the game as it is how is that a bad thing.
In a cash shop game they introduce game mechanics which can add nothing into the game but an inconvenience then talk about game mechanics and why this new change is important to them as a company. Then a few weeks later they introduce an item into the cash shop that skips said inconvenience. And now you understand why it was so important to them.
Now while we don't know to what extent these kind of gameplay mechanics arenanet is cool with doing outside of attrition mechanics..At this point I'm waiting for a 'trait respec kit' which would explain why we they decided we have to go back to town to respec.

Many of the Korean F2P grinders don't have this uber weapon of button mashing. They use the same philosophy that Anet is now adopting, that anything in the cash shop you can get via grinding. This "uber sword of pwnage" is a red herring, most F2P pay2win games don't have them either. Basically Anet is charging you $60 for the Korean MMO F2P model. The only question is how much grind, but qualitatively it is identical.

GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind"
1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN
2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements
