Digital Imperial Edition is same as Standard with some bonuses added.
If you purchased Standard Edition before and now change your mind, you can upgrade to Imperial Edition.
There is no cash shop.
Stop the presses.
We must inform Zenimax that they got it wrong and there is no cash shop
It's funny...maybe I dreamt it but I could have sworn that if I log on to their website and spend some real world money, I could then log in to game and have access to a horse that I didn't have access to before spending that real world money...a horse that incidentally would have cost me 17 gold in game, had I not spent that real world money....

Game directors don't pull the purse strings, accountants and executives do.
Never believe promises that can't be kept, there is actually a very good chance ESO will one day have an in game cash shop.
Only thing we can be reasonably sure of is there won't be one at launch.
That day will come within its first year. ESO is a very average game and once the newness wears off the subscriptions will too.
For a game that is so average ..it sure appears to have your attention maybe it's just a newness thing ?
..Or it could be the IP that has gotten this average game so much attention- That would be my guess. That is what got my attention anyhow.
Game is not bad... Game is probably worth the sub (imho). Game is in no way worth a box price + sub + cash shop of any sort.
I too think this is looking like they plan on transitioning towards F2P and/or Cash shop heavy. I would have been glad to pay box price + sub for at least a couple months (again, I love the IP) and give it a chance. I love sub games and also love the ES Universe and have always purchased every new ES game since Daggerfall... I am passing though- Game IS too average to justify box + sub + Cash shop (that I feel will start adding more things) and will probably be F2P within a year or so.
=(
EDIT- And if you follow my post history since this game was way back in beta you will see I said exactly the same thing. game seems , meh- BUT since I love the IP I will be giving it a few months of support and an honest chance- Since it wwill be sub with no cash shop and a great IP, I would continue to play even if it was 'average'... The CE race rubbed me wrong and kind of put me 'on the fence' (since I began to suspect they were not to be trusted in what they said... That was clearly a 'paid for' advantage and content with the Imperials) but still planned on a purchase- This, was the straw that broke the camels back for me.
-I was never a 'hater' nor against sub games. I wanted to love this and would not have even been interested if this had been a 'F2P' game... But as I have said since months ago- Absent of the IP this would be a very hard sell.

"The purpose of the store is to offer interested players a variety of additional services. At launch we’re going to have two items: the ability to upgrade to the Imperial Edition, and an entry level horse (Palomino colored). The horse you get in both purchases is functionally the same, but the Imperial Edition is the only way to ever get the White horse. We have the Palomino horse available to allow players to purchase a basic mount without purchasing the entire Imperial Edition."
ESO is a financial success and an existing IP. ESO has a better chance of NOT going free to play.
And remember when Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn launched, people like you were saying the same thing. Free to play in a couple months my ass. The game has 2 million + subscribers and still growing.
There was an interview released today with Yoshida (from Dengeki Online Magazine) that Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn will have additional items for sale; pretty much stating a P2P with a cash shop service that will be implemented in the future. He also states in the interview that he is taking F2P into consideration. Things can change from one day to the next. Anyone following the trends in the MMORPG genre (especially in the past seven years) should not be surprised at all when a company decides to change business models.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
