That system is fine a the moment, but with some of the newer games you might have to consider upgrading to get better performance.  You don't HAVE to upgrade, however, because if the game works, it works....

I need to check how much power supply my PC has....anyone know where to check this?

  • AlistairAlistair Member UncommonPosts: 318
It should say it right on the power suplly, just flip your PC around.  If not, check under your hardware profiles (control panel, system, hardware).

well my dad found someone that has a freezing computer and needs it repaired for me..

    awesome

what would help the pc from freezing the most? would it be more ram? or...would it be a heating issue?

i haven't talked to him as of yet...but i needa know...

should i just install more ram? and would that stop the freezing on his pc?

    *note

i think it will, but i need backup advice, i don't want him to think i cheated him...or i don't want to be there when it freezes again..lol

said more ram would help in the other thread, and a question:

what a good running temperature for a processor? my amd 2800 is running at 91 degrees with the heatsink that came with it.

    hmm im not sure...

First advice, for murt:  Try running direct x diagnostic (dxdiag, in the run window) to find out processor speed and type, amount of RAM, video card and sound card.  If anything seems low or slow, upgrade it.  Update all the drivers as well.  More RAM is definitely going to help, but find out what type his mobo runs, because if it's too low speedwise, it'd also be best in the long run to upgrade that.

Second, for SD: Your comp shouldn't be running any higher than 45º C, maybe 50º  max.  Right now yours is running fine, but if you're worried you might want to add an extra fan, or replace the stock fan with something better.  I'm sure Newegg.com has something for a good price.

download.com should have it.  Can't remember what the best one is called off the top of my head, but there's a search engine there, so give it a try.

I myself run the perfect (in my eyes) computer.

    CPU: Athlon 64-FX
Memory: Corsair 1024MB TWINX matched pair
    Motherboard: Asus K8VDeluxe
Hard Drive: 2x Western Digital WD2500JD (Raid)
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 9800 XT (256MB on 412mHz)
Sound & Lan = Onboard (Don't need any better)
Mouse: Logitech MX500 (Pro Gaming mouse)
Keyboard: Cherry (No extra keys or options)
    Screen: Iiyama 19" TFT / LCD-TV

If you're gonna say that i can get a new intel processor.. i've seen the benchmarks and FX beats intel in 11/12 cases.

I'm pretty into hardware, if you need anything let me know and i'm sure i have a solution.

within the next month or so I want to put a sound card on my comp (the on-board is really nice, but I want better).  Audigy 2 is the only way to fly, right?

Also, wanna add another stick of 512mb RAM.  Is it better to get another stick of what I already have, or should I go with something different (I went for the cheep stuff first time around)?  More than likely, I could buy two sticks if need be, but I can't go higher than PC-2700 right now.  Go with the same stuff (All Component) or get a stick of high quality (Geil, corsair, kingston, etc.)?  Will there be a compatibility issue?
