It will automatically upgrade. It used to be that you needed to buy the upgrade at an npc but they changed that shortly after SL launched.

First I had to get used to the camera and combat, but dayum... I was rocking that boss at the end of the quest... I must agree, this game goes beyond expectations. Very nice ! Edit: Reckening mode is awesome!
