Genre isn't dead. It's dormant.
It's annoying and frustrating, but the demand is there, and will be sated eventually. My hopes rest with archeage. I just hope I don't have kids by then so they get to have all the fun.

The Pandora Directive was seriously fun. I can still quote lots of the ridiculous script, so many funny encounters. Lots of good puzzles and replayability value.

Whilst I don't think story is inherently bad in MMO's, it seems to me to be a waste of resources.
If you have a good backdrop, interesting factions, an interesting world, good character customization, then players will create their own story.

I found WoW style combat tedious and boring. I prefer the multi faceted approach that dodging and the such like brings. I'm old but my fingers still work.
