Yes they are sold out on their site, as well as any other digital distributer I looked at. I got a copy though, called gamestop and they had a couple left.

They just announced they re opened a few servers today, so after maintinence you should be fine, info was on lodestone.

I would just delete the char, they never re opened the servers for FFXI last time I was on it and they even stated they were not opening them soon. Pops had died to some extremely low number by then too on those servers.
