I voted for EVE mostly because CCP are gods. However I hope that WoW wins everything and gets the top spot in the ratings. Then all these EVE haters who "got ganked because I can't level up my char in 2 weeks then grief noobs WHHHAAAAAAA!" can focus on hating WoW. I'm sure plenty of them tried WoW and found something too mentally challenging. Probably be a few "I couldn't finish the quest to get Gandalfs codpiece of honour solo, WHHHAAA!", this game blows because I have to raid ect, ect.

I don't blame mmorpg.com, so we have that clear.

They all know about the site. How do you think MMORPG.com gets these Free Trial Offers for such things as L2? How do you think they get EQIIs to hand out?

    Seriously.

The companies know about the awards, but the community doesn't.

If people really think this contest is unfair, why care?
Its just a people's choice award, people can do whatever the hell they want with it and the outcome will probably not be 100% legit.

    So what?

It's readers choice whiners, if you don't like it, ignored it.  Or better yet VOTE to support your game.

I do not blame CCp for ralllying their gamers to vote, as even if most people will not play a game based soley on ratings, people WILL trial a game based on ratings, and possibly like it enough to get a paid account.

Your community does not know about the awards?  Post on your forums then!

Thus concludes - STHU About a mostly Worthless Award 101.

PS I only voted EVE for best PVP... cos well, there ARE better looking games out there and I don't PVE anymore ;).  There go the fanboy flames heading in my direction :P

Well I started a thread on the EQ2 site, we'll see if anyone feels like
voting for it from there. Anyone care to start one on the WoW boards? I
could start one on the DDO boards but I doubt I should bother.

Eve should win any PVP category atm.

But anything else they haven't a shot at. Its an ok game but has many design flaws and skewed design philosphies. Best over all game it should definitely never get. But the folks at CCP made a sticky on last years vote as well. There are enough hardcore eve players to make any voting skewed and very non scientific.

The difference is that EVE is a relatively small game that has as its target more "core" gamers, the type of folks who may bother to read a site like this.  WoW is looking for a broad market, and not the folks who read this site, specifically, so to be honest I'm sure that CCP cares a lot more about how its game is viewed on a site like this than Blizzard does.  If this site were representative of the gaming market that WoW is aimed at, WoW would have less than 50k subs and would have gotten ratings of 2 or 3 out of ten from most professional reviewers.

Meh...let the EVEbois have thier little voties, the awards mean about as much as the top 7 rated games on this site. Any MMO vet knows the ratings here are a spoof.

Indeed, since it probably won't receive a sticky or posted on the main website.

maybe it'll be the game you play -- hello kitty: island adventure?

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

It's like these players need some site to award their game and tell them "yes, your game is good enough to play".

You do realise the idea of this award is to award the game that got the most VOTES So far it seems everyone is whining against eve because its doing just that. If the other games had any real support and not just a lot of wind then maybee eve wouldnt win image

    So stop complaining and Vote.

I do agree with the EVEangelists that EVE and CCP really doesn't care if the game appeals to the majority.

However, the fact that CCP and EVE really want to win the reader's choice awards here shows me that they are obsessed with the image that the game appeals to the majority, and are willing to do whatever it takes to win that award.

For as much talk by them that they do things their way against the stuffy professionalism of the big players, CCP, more than any other game company, is obsessed, absolutely obsessed with winning awards, especially awards that convey some notion of general popularity.  When they win awards here, we'll have to see it on ads here for another year.

And why?  Because they know that "EVE is not for everyone" is not a good way to get a non-refundable $20 out of a sucker who thinks he'd have fun there.  However, "Best game 2006, Reader's Choice Awards, MMORPG.com," does.

Once again someone has missed the point of The readers awards.

The point of it is the winner is the one who gets the most votes...So if you dont want eve to win again Vote and get your friends in the MMO world to vote too.

Yeah, I've never heard of a company wanting their game to sound/be popular before.  Those bastards!

Furthermore, all of this uproar about EVE only winning because they post something on their forums to tell their people to go vote is insane.  That's like saying the Democrats shouldn't have won any of their elections because they got more of their people out to vote, and because we all know there are more Republicans...they were just too busy doing something else.  (That was directed at whoever said the reason WoW didn't win was because they were all playing the game).

Actually I didn't miss the point. What I was trying to say is that it seems CCP wants those awards more then others. you don't see Blizzard put up a link to mmorpg.com awards on WoW official site. You don't see Ncsoft do that. You don't see SOE do it either.

What game I currently play? Nothing, really. I hop onto ArchLord and EQ2 every now and then, but thats about it.
