Just by looking at this thread you can clearly see there is a large amount of EvE fanatics that visit this website.
The games graphics were good for a while but kinda sucky now adays. I tried it and it sucked. Tried it twice and it sucked both times. I liked Earth and Beyond more but that sucked also. I like how in EvE your ship is larger then some planets but they try to make you think you are just really far away from the planet but it LOOKS like you are nearly touching it. I guess I was hoping for more of a space exploration type mmo when I tried EvE both times and all I got was "Grind in Space!".
P.S. Thanks EvE fanatics for proving the OP point.
"I'm sorry but your mmo has been diagnosed with EA and only has X number of days to live."
I did not look at who won what last year or the year before.
Also I am not an Eve player at this time.
Did I like the graphics of Eve, they were alright but I never understood all the hype about them. Same 10 star fields with different colors in the game.
Anyway, I DID enjoy it while I played it but found myself discourage with the skill system.
I voted. I voted how I felt. I will not tell you how I voted. but that I answered the questions honestly for ME. Will everyone do that? Hell no, that is why we all know this is nothing to get your shorts messed up over.

LOL really.... do you think a contest on a web site like this really effects the gaming industry?

How dare they post information about this poll so their customers can vote for what they enjoy. The OP is a dipshit
As long as other mmorpg communities are un-informed of these awards, these awards mean jack. Awards were fair, because mmorpg.com had a decent mix of communities. WoW fans, L2 Fans, Everquest fans. yet now we get a horde of EVE fanbois that usually NEVER visit this site to vote for EVE. These are no longer mmorpg.com's awards, these are EVE's fans awards.

Even a simple non stickied post on their forums would probably been seen by more people than a sticky on eves forum. Or are you going to tell me that WoW players have so much fun playing their game that they don't even have time to read the forums?

Hell I already started a thread on the EQ2 boards. So I guess that blows your whole eve-bias thing out the window eh?
I want more people to come out and vote, I still think EVE would do well in the ratings and awards. Hell we've already seen in this thread that even people who don't play it would rather vote for EVE than WoW.
So I think I finally understand the argument against EVE, it goes something like this...
The results of the vote are skewed because there is a sticky post on the EVE forums telling people that there is a vote happening at MMORPG.com. Furthermore, the only reason EVE wins is because "EVE fanbois" come to deliberately vote for EVE, and the only people that vote for EVE are EVE fanbois because clearly it's impossible to just think that game is the best one.
Expanding further on the EVE forums sticky, opponents of EVE say that this is wrong because a game should win an honor based on its merit, and that this sticky post somehow detracts from that goal. I believe an example of an instructor telling kids to vote for him as instructer of the year was used as an analogy. This argument reminds me that I've been meaning to write my congressman to tell him to revoke the right to wear "Vote Democrat" or "Vote Republican" buttons and to try and get a ban on political bumperstickers passed. I really hate it when people advocate their own viewpoint. The only reason the Democrats won the mid-term elections was because a bunch of "Dem fanbois" registered to vote, just so they could vote for their party. I mean we all know people that care about anything are clearly just "fanbois" that have been blinded. Plus, not all of the political parties put up posters telling their people to go vote, so obviously those that did are just obssessed with winning, and aren't really that good. Like the instructor analogy shows, the best way to go about this is to not let anyone inform anyone else that a vote is going on, and see what happens. I'd continue but I'm late for a book burning...
There might be a bit of sarcasm in there somewhere.
I think its skewed. The guys that created EvE know this award BS is pretty much just a free method of advertisment to get people to try their shitty game. Thats probably why they are the only ones who really care about it because the other companies don't need to bother with skewing an already skewed award system. I have been visiting this site for years and there has always been die hard EvE fanatics here, nothing new.

Lol you and a few others seem to care about it a lot.
Wow. I admit Eve can be very intimidating to people who depend on game guides and cheat codes, as there aren't any for Eve. In fact, Eve deliberately does not publicly reveal many of the tricks of the game.
The result is wonderful. Lame "follow the instructions from the cheat website" players have to think for themselves. In short, intelligent, cooperative players succeed while button mashers get left in the dust.
Facts...
I have played Eve-Online since May, 2004. At first there were some inconsistencies, and the game definitely lags when a few hundred pilots are all in the same system. The developers, however, instead of sharding or dividing players among several different servers, analyzed the problem and addressed it, investing several millions in new servers, faster connections and even RAM-based disk system, all to improve the player experience.
Over time they found that a small number of players had discovered loopholes, and they closed those exploits and banned those players. If Star Trek, Warcraft, or Everquest were so devoted to maintaining a fair player experience, they might get my monthly subscription fees instead of these boys in Iceland.
Eve rewards trial and error. Eve rewards good note-taking (my eve journal is in tatters!) Eve rewards players who think, analyze and perfect their gameplay. How many of you playing American Mega games wish you had a fair shake against opponents who are using tricks and hacks to beat you?
OK, so some of you think that Eve is a "Shitty" game. Fine, do not play it. Frankly, if you do not get the possibilities of Galactic conquest, megacorporation management, gang leadership and the BEST SKILL SYSTEM I HAVE EVER SEEN or imagined, then stick with SWG, WOW or EQ. They can have your dollars.
Eve is for those brilliant enough to grasp it. If that is not you, then do not play the game.
As to Eve "fanbois" stuffing the virtual ballot box, remember that you, too, have freedom of choice, and you can ask your friends, clanmates and web visitors to vote for your favorites too. I would be amazed if anyone cares enough for the poorly-designed games you champoin to bother though. ANd dosen't that indicat that the Eve community is engaged?
Anyway, feel free to not play Eve. It's obviously too much of a challenge for you. But do not impune it because you have a case of "sour grapes" (and in case you are ignorant, thats a reference to one of Aesop's tales, assuming you bother to read books!)
So. please. go to the "How to beat XYZ MMO/RPG" sites and have a good time entering your lame cheat codes, and imagine that you are having a great time. I will be planning with my corp mates how to use the new expansion to outwit our competition, politically, militarily, economically and spatially. ANd WE WILL be having a great time of it! Even with out a "how-to" or a armfull of cheat codes.
So, peace to you, and all your friends. But please stop denigrating Eve-Online because you lack the wits to play it!

Politics is politics. If people are asking someone to be their representative, then it isn't decided on the basis of merit. In fact, a person that is too meritorious can be a detriment in terms of popular support, because he is too elitist to truly represent the people.
However, awards are different than politics. In fact, politics is an award killer. Michael Schumacher in the 2005 US Grand Prix? The infamous French judge in figure skating? The US and Soviet boycotts? Politics doesn't bring prestige to the award. It instead makes the award about the politics, which leaves a sore taste in the mouths of everyone who wants to really see excellence in gaming rewarded honestly, and in good spirits.
You see, CCP is showing contempt for not only this site, but MMORPGers in general, the award they crave, and the mission of what the reader's choice awards should represent, which is excellence in gaming, and not "kicking award buttocks." You can tell by the way they worded their blog that they show no appreciation, or thanks, or respect to us, the readers of MMORPG.com, some who play EVE, but many who do not.
From that blog, it is clear to me that they only care about their people, some of whom are members of this site, and contributors and readers of this site, and many who are here for no other reason than to do what Kieron tells them to do, and never bother with this community again.

You guys are getting desparate, aren't you? He (Semper) posted an analogy that pretty much nailed it. What does Beatnik do? Take it entirely out of context and throw an absurd spin on it.
Jesus, if you care that damn much that CCP actually gives a damn, go e-mail Blizzard over and over and get them to post a sticky about it there. Rallying voters happen in ALL polls, awards or otherwise. Ever been to GameFAQs? Remember that best Video Game Ever contest where people rallied fans from everywhere to vote for what they wanted to win? I guess that poll was bullshit, because someone actually cared. Who cares if it's the damn developer. There is NOTHING stopping anyone else from doing the same thing as CCP. Just lay off of EVE, dammit. I don't even play the damn game, but this hatred is just starting to bug.
If anything, the only blind "fanbois" in the thread are the two most vocal against EVE. You can be a fanboy to an ideal, you know.

You know, I never believed in stereotypes. "all wow are kids" bullshit. "all PVP players just want to gank" rediculous, absurd. However when it comes to the "all EVE players are a bunch of elitist players" stereotype, I'm really starting to have my doubts. at first I thought nah...no way. thas rediculous.
Yet here we see yet another EVE player who live up to the stereotype. If you don't play EVE, then its obviously its to hard for you","If you don't play EVE, its obviously you lack the "wits" to play it "If you don't play EVE, then its obviously you use cheat codes and guide".
I mean, seriously, don't these people stop and think for a minute?
Did it ever occur to you that it MIGHT be because not everyone is intrested in EVE's rediculous slow gameplay? where combat can take up to 30 seconds - 1 minute, and then a another 10~20 seconds just to pick up the loot?
Did it ever occur to you that it MIGHT be because not everyone likes EVE's skill system, which is based on real life time?
Did it ever occur to you that it MIGHT be because not everyone is intrested in a sci-fi game?
Did it ever occur to you that people MIGHT like to group up and travel deep into dungeons to look for valuable loot, which EVE does not offer?
I can go on and on, but its downright rediculous that you think the only reason people aren't playing EVE is because they can't handle it, like EVE is such an incredibly "hard" game.
And FYI
There are actually quite a few of other mmorpg's that offer the politics you discribe, most well known are Lineage and Lineage 2,two games who would laugh at EVE's performance in the MMORPG market.

I'm sure SOMEBODY here must have an active sub to one of these games.
Hell I already started a thread on the EQ2 boards. So I guess that
blows your whole eve-bias thing out the window eh?
I want more people to come out and vote, I still think EVE would do
well in the ratings and awards. Hell we've already seen in this thread
that even people who don't play it would rather vote for EVE than WoW.
That has to be one of the most assinine statements I have ever read on a forum.
Sorry for the flame but you seem to really be eat up with your hatred of EVE.
I dont really understand it. I don't care for eastern games like you do. But if Lineage II won it would not matter one bit to me.
Support Bacteria, its the only culture some people have.
And look, its the usual suspects on both sides of the fence.
"I'm sorry but your mmo has been diagnosed with EA and only has X number of days to live."

ELITE (e'-leet) Best, outstanding, advanced, exceptional, brightest, above the ordinary, not for the masses. Requiring extrordinary sophistication and advanced skills. ex: "Eve-Online is an elite game."

I mean wow.
