They know their only worry is warhammer, AOC imo looks like a flop but hey i could be wrong. But warhammer looks like a fierce mmorpg and it looks it can knock WoW off its throne. I know blizzard has a trump card under their sleeve and that card is northrend. The burning crusade is a very nice and well done xpac they could have did better but the xpac was awesome nonetheless. I have a feeling when blizzard releases a northrend xpac its going to be beyond godly. A new xpac according to blizzard will be released every year so a new xpac would be released the same time war comes out.
Cant wait

When Darkfall is finally released you will be able to run it on the 2.0ghz PDA's that will exist by then.

I'm sure Blizzard doesn't worry about Warhammer. why would they? Blizzard is going 8,5 million subscribers strong, and its STILL growing. Why would they fear a company that peaked at 250k subscribers with its game?
But I too am confident that the next WoW expansion will be well worth it. I'm satisfied with Burning Crusade so far.WAR is a great challenger no discussion there. The winner isn't the one with the most amount of subscribers, WoW is the biggest bomb on that front ever. But WAR I know will be the next big thing that people will talk about.
I don't expect all too many to switch from WoW to WAR because WoW is a game on it's own and there are sooo many fanboys playing it who have put too much time in it they wouldn't ever dream of leaving it. No matter what game that comes.
No matter what happends WAR will not have a positive impact for Blizzard. Since they indeed are going to loose subscribers.Ofcourse the winner is the one with the most subscribers. when talking about the "Big thing" in a franchise, it means the game that is the most popular, the most played, and the one that received the most media attention, and WAR will be neither of those. WAR is not a challenger. Fantasy Warhammer setting isn't that popular among video gamers. WAR doesn't have the franchise of Warhammer, and Mythic doesn't have the company recognition of Blizzard. Millions of gamers were actually VERY excited about the announcement of the new alliance race in the Burning Crusade. Loads of gamers were waiting for blizzard to open its mouth and say which race will join the alliance. Only very few people cared when Mythic announced the races.
WAR will do fine, no doubt about that. I'm sure they will reach a nice 150k~250k subscribers, if not a few more. But it will always live in the shadow of World of Warcraft, just like every other MMORPG out there.
I'm sorry Gameloading, but I think you're wrong on this one. You underestimate the power of good PvP. WoW's pvp = completely meaningless shit. Warhammer's PvP should be awesome coming from the makers of a great PvP game (DAoC). I'd be willing to bet a paycheck Warhammer will grab at least 1 million subscribers and you can quote this later if ya want.
But what games do we actually consider good PVP? Ultima Online and Dark age of Camelot were both considered good pvp games, and neither of them ever got above 250k subscribers. Only Lineage 1 and Lineage 2 were very successfull pvp games, and thats because of the success in asia. to my knowledge, Mythic doesn't even have plans for a WAR in asia. I don't really understand why you predict WARHAMMER will grab 1 million subscribers, you (and many others, not to just pick on you) act like its completely normal for an MMORPG to reach 1 million subscribers. Out of all those MMORPG's, only 3 of them ever made it above 1 million subscribers. thats WoW, Lineage and Lineage 2. No other. Even a game like Everquest back then, only capped at 400k ~ 500k subscribers. Your fully free to disagree with me, many people do.

Maybe in your opinion Mythic has a greater reputation then blizzard, but the general gaming community doesn't agree with you by a long shot. Blizzard has always been known for its high quality RTS games. Starcraft and Warcraft are considered the national sports in Korea for crying out loud, and Blizzards reputation went through the roof with World of Warcraft.
Also, I wat not talking about the fantasy genre, I was talking about Warhammers fantasy setting.
I may sound like a Mythic hater, but honnestly, I'm not. I'm also curious the direction which they are going with WAR. but at the same time, I will also stay realistic.
Warhammer is extremely popular. The tabletop game. So was WarCraft the strategy game.
Warhammer is said to have sold about 90 million units per year! You can imagine how many people who play it then.
I don't really understand why you go on and say stuff like "Mythic has never been able to rival Blizzard in terms of quality". Does that mean that they cannot succeed now? And I truly think DAOC is an extremely well done game and for it's time it was pretty advanced indeed.
WAR will be a huge bomb, and a success to that. Nothing indicates otherwise IMO. I doubt that when it comes, it's gonna be seen as a "worse game than WoW". I think that when people will ask which game they're gonna play people will mostly responce with WAR and WoW.
Exactly. TABLETOP game. not Computer or Video game. Dungeons & Dragons is also a widely popular tabletop game, yet we don't see D&DO reaching 1 million, or even 100k, subscribers either. and that really isn't because D&DO is such a horrible game. D&DO received pretty good ratings.
Ofcourse it doesn't mean that they cannot succeed now, But the past of Mythic is good, but not as good as Blizzards. DAOC is fine game, but it can't match the quality of World of Warcraft.
If you consider 150k~250k subscribers a huge bomb, then sure. But I doubt it will be much bigger then that. I can give you some indications that will show you that WAR won't be super successfull. Most MMORPG's released after the release of WoW is doing "bad" to "okay". Look at Auto Assault. ArchLord. Dungeons & Dragons Online. the only one that is really doing okay after the release of WoW is Vanguard. A lot of MMORPG's lost subscribers after WoW. Everquest. FFXI. DAOC, and especialy Lineage and Lineage 2 received a heavy downfall in subscribers.
Then there are a whole load of MMORPG's comming out, splitting up the Non-WoW MMORPG players even further.
Warhammer is my next in line to try, but honestly , I don't have much faith in EA.
I still stick with WoW mainly because even though yeah the pvp system is a bit out of whack, I can level from 1-70 and find TONS and TONS of fights along the way, from good long fair fights to straight up ganks. Not to mention the game at 70 isn't too bad if you just try to enjoy yourself, make some friends join a guild. People complain about the graphics but pffft, I can play it on all 3 of my computers and 2 of them suck bad, so....I'm happy.
Though I will say I'm really excited to check out WH just because of it's pvp system(looks interesting). Being an avid pvper, WoW is one of the best bets for pvp nowadays due to it's massive amount of players online. Not saying it's the best, but for now, not much else pleases me, I tried resubbing to DAOC for a few months and the PVP was just dull and boring, running around for hours and just seeing the same faces over and over was dull.
Plain and simple though, there are about 3-4 games I would play over WoW given they did some huge server merging and making the games feel alive again(Daoc, swg, uo). At least with WoW I know everytime I log on I can find some pvp within a good 5-10 mins of watching the world defense channel, or insta joining a bg(kinda meh about this but at least its something).
Plus yeah, there's a reason why almost all of Blizzard's games have won like a gajillion awards, hell there was still around 120-150k people during primetime still playing on battle.net last time I logged in. And those games are OLD. Clearly they are doing something right.

Because WAR is seen as WoW 2 in many people's eyes! And the PvP will be more praised than in WoW. That's why WAR will be a challenger. Oh, and it also looks top notch and polished, which many games aren't

WoW is hurting the mmorpg market. badly.
D&DO is not a very good game. It's small and most grow tired because of that. Also the lack of PvP.
And YES DAOC CAN match the quality of WoW. It's very polished. But it's just that it doesn't appeal to as many people as WoW. WoW has the cute graphics and the simle gameplay DAOC hasen't.
I expect WAR to receive about 2 M subs the first year. Then maby 3 M next year or even more.

D&DO is a fine game, and no, DAOC can not match up to the quality of WoW. Its close, but not quite.
You can expect 2M ~ 3M subscribers, you will be proven wrong in time. Honnestly, we have so many fanbois promise their game will be the next messiah. Vanguard, Dark age of Camelot, Dark & light, Everquest 2. and next up is Lotro, WAR, Age of Conan. and at the end of 2007, when everyone has been proven wrong by reality, people will start predicting Star Trek Online to be the next big thing, or stargate, or the new EVE expansion. we have seen it so many times now.
Yeah! Murlocs, Demons and level cap raised to 999!
Ultima Online 98~04 Dark Age of Camelot 03~07 Final Fantasy XI 04~06 Guild Wars 05~08 World of Warcraft 04~05 Unsuccessful Tries: DFO/EQ2/DRaja/Rag/Req/RYL/9D/Cabal/KO/PSU/RF/GE/TO/TR/DDO/EVE/LoTRO/L2/RZ/SWG/VG
Let us be honest here. The current gen of MMOs are boring now and people are looking for something new especially with the dissapointment of Vanguard. This leads me to believe that just from fanatics alone and people looking to play something besides WoW and EQ will be looking to play AoC and WAR. That is not including the Conan book fans and the WAR tabletop game fans. Throw them in and you have a good community base right off the bat. AoC and WAR are going to end of being the next big thing. I played WoW for two years and even after playing the xpac and completing Kara, the game was still boring to me and a majority of my guild. It is time for the new crop of MMOs to start appearing.

Oh yes there's alot of predictions. But as much as I can be wrong so can you. You can't say 100% that WAR might not receive 2M subs the first year. It can pretty damn well happen and so far I can smell it. But still, there's a long time untill release and many things can happen. But as it stands now, I have no doubt.
What is your view upon a fanboy? I'm interesting in hearing it. I'm not a fanboy, I can pretty damn well speak bad about the game if it deserves it. But so far it doesn't. I still haven't sold my soul and brain to the passion.

Mythic I'd say have a GREATER reputation than WoW today.
Thats a joke? No way Mythic has a better rep then Blizzard. You might not like WoW but at least when they release Xpacs it doesnt completely ruin the entire game. Mythic has a history of making the game worse with each Xpac. With WoW, sure you might be bored after awhile, or just dont like the gameplay, but you know you can recommend the game to just about anyone and they will at least find it enjoyable for a period of time.
To make a comparison, Mythic is like a fully decked out Porshe, extremely high performance engine, nice paint job, everything is great EXCEPT its wheels are square. Then each XPAC instead of fixing the obvious problems, it just tunes the engine, repaints, adds tons of stuff but then removes the steering wheel. So now you got an awesome car, except block wheels and a steering wheel.
WoW on the other had is like a Yugo, fully supped up and trying to run in Nascar. They tweak it, add all this stuff but still has a Yugo engine underneath.

I was talking about current. Their whole "on drugs" thing going on with Paul Barnett. People simply love him. Most people hardly even know the names behind WoW, and even fewer knows how they look. Thus WAR has received much fame only through the faces and characters of the devs.

No, not completely ruin the game, but it killed a big portion of it. You realise all that rep grinding you ever did before the expansion was for naught. All those months you put into getting your guy gear was for you to get to 66 faster than somebody who dinged 60 the day before the xpac release. It killed AQ20, ZG, MC, ONY, BWL, AQ40, and NAXX. It killed having to rep up with many factions, and now that content is basically dead. Getting High Warlord gear used to be an honor and when you saw somebody with it you knew that guy played his ass off for a couple months to earn it. When the xpac was announced Blizzard changed it so that everyone and their slow cousin could get HWL gear, the entire set for that matter, in a couple of days. Announcing there are no more 40 man raids and things are cut down to 24 made it so that a lot of guilds had to cut members, or let you know that you may never raid because they will progress faster without you in there. Going 60-70 was a joke and they could have easily just added new raids without raising the cap. When they released the expansion, bags and bank items were missing and a ton of skills became broken and to talk to a GM or anyone on the phone you have to sit and wait for three hours.
They know their only worry is warhammer, AOC imo looks like a flop but hey i could be wrong. But warhammer looks like a fierce mmorpg and it looks it can knock WoW off its throne. Warhammer Online is quite a different game than WoW. WoW is generic enough to appeal to a wide audience, incredibly unspecialized and utterly typical. It will be a long time before an MMO tops WoW's sales figures. Gaming companies are trying new ideas, trying to break away from the typical 2nd-gen MMO format, and "different" doesn't appeal to a wide audience.
Everything WoW does, it does fairly well. I can't think of any features of WoW which I strongly dislike. I also can't think of any that I particularly like, either. Nothing really stands out, which is good - innovative features aren't for everybody. Specialized games draw specialized audiences, players who are looking for something specific.
The Burning Crusade was spectacularly dull, and offered up more of the same old crap. Fortunately for Blizzard, millions of gamers wanted more of the same old crap. The next expansion will most likely be equally bland, offer even more of the same old crap, and sell millions of copies because of it.
I'm satisfied with Burning Crusade so far.
How about this, you guys buy into this WOW hype more than Blizzard does.
Blizzard isn't worried about Warhammer, AOC, LOTRO, GE or any other MMO on the horizon.
Blizzard was just as shocked as the rest of us by WOW's numbers. However unlike some here they're a bit more realistic and expect to loose millions of subs at some point. They're quite aware the numbers they're pulling down now aren't sustainable. The fact blizz took they're sweet time releasing BC shows they're focused and don't buy into the hype. Much respect to blizz for going about work as usual. WOW's next expansion will be much better than BC simply because the level of polished games released by then will be much tougher.
Blizzard has done 10x's better than even they expected to. It's like the housing boom of a couple years ago..
Sooner or later everything comes back to earth and if that means a mere 3-4 million subscribers they're still on top...lol
Mythic I'd say have a GREATER reputation than WoW today.

Um there was only 1 expansion that a minority of people said ruined the game.. And even then mythic took a player poll and came out with a classic server without that xpac.
Um there was only 1 expansion that a minority of people said ruined the game.. And even then mythic took a player poll and came out with a classic server without that xpac.
Ya you are right there might have been 1 expansion only a minority said ruined the game. HOWEVER a MAJORITY of people have said that TOA and New Frontiers both killed DAOC with a one, two punch. Yet still classes from SI (which was ok expansion) like the animist have plagued the game even today.
So basically 5yrs after the games release they have to add classic servers which basically take the game almost back to its orginal release. What makes it worse is that those servers are the most popular. Thats really sad. Mythic has an extremely checkered past when it comes to content. Blizzard on the other hand has had tons of games that have all been awesome.
I personally think WAR is going to be massive, with games workshop breathing down mythic's neck they are GOING to get it right, also in every GW shop worldwide they will be doing massive advertising, will probably be showing the cinematic trailer on in shop TV's getting their sales people to push selling the title, so in the end the 90 million people accross the world who do play the table top will see the game when they go into their games workshop and think "blimey that looks really good" even if 10% of those people buy the game then WAR will top WOWs subscriptions easily, also i think that the burning crusade lacked anything good and i left the game soon after release and have not been back i am counting the days to WAR and so are most of the people from my 200+ account WoW guild, it is gonna be HUGE
Another poster who can't read. Blizzard has already said they have no expansion plans at the moment, hence you will not see another expansion this year or early next, it will be another two year wait.
This will put a serious dent in their playerbase next fall when all the bored people will try the new games coming out in the fall. If any of them are any good, they might lose a significant potion of them too.
Oh and for the Warhammer fanboys, remember War is basically a pvp game and Mythic has NEVER managed to balance classes in DAoC after 5 years, what makes you think they can do this in Warhammer? I will have to see it to believe it.

Then there are a whole load of MMORPG's comming out, splitting up the Non-WoW MMORPG players even further.
WoW is hurting the mmorpg market. badly.
Half life 2 took 6 years to develope and its a FPS (MMO's take longer than FPS to develope)... The darkfall project started in 2001, but it really didnt take off till 2003 till its current company adopted it. And i really dont care how long darkfall takes, it has all the features and elements of a MMORPG i could ever ask for.
Half-Life 2 is garbage, hopefully Darkfall turns out better, because it definetly looks like a solid game.

Observe the fanboy in its natural environment.

They sure knew what they were doing.

4: My entire bank account
5: The rest that is left
That your wrong.
