I agree with the starter of this topic. There is a new xpack comming and it is going to kick ass. Why you ask? here is why:
Blizzard is a company just like anny other, it needs to be able to compete with other games that developers are releasing, their reason of existence is profit, period. If we look at games such as WAR, Vanguard and AOC, we can see that those games have some verry neat feautures like mounted combat, player housing, Ships, etc etc. Blizzard knows damn well that they will have to keep up with this to stay in the loop so they will undoubtly add some of these features into WOW. That's not copying, its called the evolution of the genre (and business strategy). The next Xpac wont have a lvl raising cap.... it will add a lot of new gameplay features like playerhousing, mounted combat, new area's, maybe even guild pvp, the works.
As a matter of fact, i'm sure that the BC wasnt such a big deal because of this. Blizzard is aware of the comming competition and they didnt want to shoot all of their gunpowder at once. Mark my words, Blizzard has a awesome expansionpack up its sleeve. They simply cant stay behind of the competition.
Either that or the marketeers and dev's at Blizzard are absolutely out of their minds...

-Edit- P.S. I'm not a WoW fanboy...
Nono who'd think you're a fanboy because you say that?
I absolutely think like you. That they are going to fight for keeping the throne. They simply have to. But so does everybody else. If WoW can become something I like in the future I don't complain, but right now it would take very much or just PvP that I like.

I'm sure Blizzard doesn't worry about Warhammer. why would they? Blizzard is going 8,5 million subscribers strong, and its STILL growing. Why would they fear a company that peaked at 250k subscribers with its game?
But I too am confident that the next WoW expansion will be well worth it. I'm satisfied with Burning Crusade so far.WAR is a great challenger no discussion there. The winner isn't the one with the most amount of subscribers, WoW is the biggest bomb on that front ever. But WAR I know will be the next big thing that people will talk about.
I don't expect all too many to switch from WoW to WAR because WoW is a game on it's own and there are sooo many fanboys playing it who have put too much time in it they wouldn't ever dream of leaving it. No matter what game that comes.
No matter what happends WAR will not have a positive impact for Blizzard. Since they indeed are going to loose subscribers.Ofcourse the winner is the one with the most subscribers. when talking about the "Big thing" in a franchise, it means the game that is the most popular, the most played, and the one that received the most media attention, and WAR will be neither of those. WAR is not a challenger. Fantasy Warhammer setting isn't that popular among video gamers. WAR doesn't have the franchise of Warhammer, and Mythic doesn't have the company recognition of Blizzard. Millions of gamers were actually VERY excited about the announcement of the new alliance race in the Burning Crusade. Loads of gamers were waiting for blizzard to open its mouth and say which race will join the alliance. Only very few people cared when Mythic announced the races.
WAR will do fine, no doubt about that. I'm sure they will reach a nice 150k~250k subscribers, if not a few more. But it will always live in the shadow of World of Warcraft, just like every other MMORPG out there.
I'm sorry Gameloading, but I think you're wrong on this one. You underestimate the power of good PvP. WoW's pvp = completely meaningless shit. Warhammer's PvP should be awesome coming from the makers of a great PvP game (DAoC). I'd be willing to bet a paycheck Warhammer will grab at least 1 million subscribers and you can quote this later if ya want.
But what games do we actually consider good PVP? Ultima Online and Dark age of Camelot were both considered good pvp games, and neither of them ever got above 250k subscribers. Only Lineage 1 and Lineage 2 were very successfull pvp games, and thats because of the success in asia. to my knowledge, Mythic doesn't even have plans for a WAR in asia. I don't really understand why you predict WARHAMMER will grab 1 million subscribers, you (and many others, not to just pick on you) act like its completely normal for an MMORPG to reach 1 million subscribers. Out of all those MMORPG's, only 3 of them ever made it above 1 million subscribers. thats WoW, Lineage and Lineage 2. No other. Even a game like Everquest back then, only capped at 400k ~ 500k subscribers. Your fully free to disagree with me, many people do.

Maybe in your opinion Mythic has a greater reputation then blizzard, but the general gaming community doesn't agree with you by a long shot. Blizzard has always been known for its high quality RTS games. Starcraft and Warcraft are considered the national sports in Korea for crying out loud, and Blizzards reputation went through the roof with World of Warcraft.
Also, I wat not talking about the fantasy genre, I was talking about Warhammers fantasy setting.
I may sound like a Mythic hater, but honnestly, I'm not. I'm also curious the direction which they are going with WAR. but at the same time, I will also stay realistic.
Warhammer is extremely popular. The tabletop game. So was WarCraft the strategy game.
Warhammer is said to have sold about 90 million units per year! You can imagine how many people who play it then.
I don't really understand why you go on and say stuff like "Mythic has never been able to rival Blizzard in terms of quality". Does that mean that they cannot succeed now? And I truly think DAOC is an extremely well done game and for it's time it was pretty advanced indeed.
WAR will be a huge bomb, and a success to that. Nothing indicates otherwise IMO. I doubt that when it comes, it's gonna be seen as a "worse game than WoW". I think that when people will ask which game they're gonna play people will mostly responce with WAR and WoW.
Exactly. TABLETOP game. not Computer or Video game. Dungeons & Dragons is also a widely popular tabletop game, yet we don't see D&DO reaching 1 million, or even 100k, subscribers either. and that really isn't because D&DO is such a horrible game. D&DO received pretty good ratings.
Ofcourse it doesn't mean that they cannot succeed now, But the past of Mythic is good, but not as good as Blizzards. DAOC is fine game, but it can't match the quality of World of Warcraft.
If you consider 150k~250k subscribers a huge bomb, then sure. But I doubt it will be much bigger then that. I can give you some indications that will show you that WAR won't be super successfull. Most MMORPG's released after the release of WoW is doing "bad" to "okay". Look at Auto Assault. ArchLord. Dungeons & Dragons Online. the only one that is really doing okay after the release of WoW is Vanguard. A lot of MMORPG's lost subscribers after WoW. Everquest. FFXI. DAOC, and especialy Lineage and Lineage 2 received a heavy downfall in subscribers.
Then there are a whole load of MMORPG's comming out, splitting up the Non-WoW MMORPG players even further.
WoW is hurting the mmorpg market. badly. lol, Gameloading.. Loved your fanboy attitude of WOW.
But on the realside Warhammer will give WOW serious competition. As someone who has been a gamer longer than most people here have been alive I am quite sure Warhammer will do very well. See part of the equation with mythic/EA is they are partnered up with GDW. GDW has been a very successful company in the gaming industry. In many aspects for minatures they surpass even FASA.
Now to Mythic. They are the masters of pvp. And the masters of what we call RVR. Of the 60 developers currently working on War some come from the original Blizzard! I dont like telling inside information. But this warrants it , since you are a bit bias IMO for what WOW has done for you in RL.
I wont comment any farther on that subject.
But I do believe War will have a major impact over WOW in a big way. I expect no less than 1 million subscribers initially. I also expect it to hit mainstream around Nov' 07. You should also expect to see major advertising both in stores and various media networks. Warhammer will be very solid at release.
Where are people coming up with this theory for another xpac for WoW? Show me the link, because last I read they are not interested in making another one.
Too right Wow's next expansion is going to be something special. Their last expansion was their very first expansion for their mmorpg, the features in that expansion you can tell they have listened to some of the suggestions or criticisms of WoW. For example, arenas, the shorter instances, the added pvp content all were suggestions you would read around in their forums. Now, what Blizzard will be doing is looking at some of the criticism which came with Burning Crusade like for instance the lack of new classes. Next expansion you can bet there will be new classes. So yeah I suspect they will be listening very closely, and that next expansion will be their response to that.
Also, in response to some of the replies in this topic. Gameloading, the most irritating of WoW fanbois to strawl this forum, is correct in possessing a certain level of caution towards the perhaps excessive hype to the upcomming releases of WAR and AoC. Both have yet to have been received by the public. Both, on paper, sound good but thats as far as it goes as yet.

I agree with you. Our whole guild left WOW this month. After being a raid guild on Thunderhorn and doing Kharazan, Enough is enough. We currently are not playing any mmorpgs til one is released that is worthy. On a side note Gameloading is a big fanboy of WOW. But is to be expected. In reality WOW subscriptions are dropping. You WOW fans see any other servers released since the initial expansion? At one point is was 4 a week. Now its down to 0 a week. WOW has peaked. Alot of us are quiting the game from sheer boredom. 2.5 years of WOW is like someone busting you in the nads with a baseball bat! Im not alone!
Most of us know Warhammer will rock. We also know that E-Z mode WOW is coming to a pass. Its getting old. By quarter 4 of this year it will be old. And Warhammer will take the casual gamer as well as those of us who are raiders.
I agree Xpowder, my entire guild has left as well. The only reason we even played through Kara was because we were pretty close knit group. Finally somebody opened their mouth and said they were going to quit and the only reason they stayed was because of each other and then we all had a good laugh and admit that, that is the only reason we were there. The game got boring. Everyone keep talking about the "next expansion" but one is not in the works. Let it go. The current gen of MMOs is slim pickins' and many people play WoW because at the moment there is nothing else to play. When the newer MMOs come out like Spellborn, PotBs, POTC, SUN,GnH, WAR,AoC, WoW will drop even more subscribers.
Once the chinese gold farmers find out that nobody wants to purchase gold for a game that is losing people, that will drop them another 3 million players.
Age of Conan and Warhammer are going to lead us in a better direction than WoW did. WoW opened up a lot of eyes to the MMO world, but with how easy they made it , it may have done more harm than good.
WoW's subscribtions are climbing, not dropping. Blizzard recently announced they reached the 8,5 million subscribers mark.
Saying WAR will reach the 1 million subscriber mark is rediculous. It receives heavy competition from Age of Conan, Aion, Lotro, and many more titles, all games fighting for the few mmorpg gamers left that aren't playing WoW. Nothing even HINTS that Mythic will gain 1 million subscribers. If you count all non-WoW mmorpg players who are prepared to pay a subscribtion and are currently playing other MMO's together (in the west that is), then you barely get 1 million subscribers

What I think is funny is WOW used to have good positive feedback in the MMORPG WOW forums. As of the past couple of weeks or so it has become pretty nasty there. went from a + to a -.. """""amused"""""
Honestly BC was the worst x-pack i ever saw , no free month (slap in the face).
But really all it did was add 60-70 content. and oh both sides and use pally-shammer, and gemcraft.
Worst x-pack ever ... EVER .
all of DAOC x-pack (of which they had way too many) gave more than wows first .
JTL the SWG x-pack was amazing , it didn't even effect the real game much but it gave you something else to do , and was fun.
NWN x-pack had level content kinda like bc did , however, they added , new classes and other things that gave people new experience.
BC was the same game same experience ... nothing changed. It all should have been a free patch for what people got.
No offensive but saying bc was good make you a FANBOY, or a person who just has not played a lot of games that have x-packs, which is ok, but look around before asserting it was good.
Did DAOC give a free month with everyone of their expansion packs?
Did JTL give a free month ?
But you did say one smart thing (slap in the face). Come here your over due.

Thought I would at least correct one lie I saw in here. Mythic not only already had the rights to make the Warhammer game, but they were already developing the game. They did not need EA for this. They sold the company to EA and actually gained by doing so. Not only did they gain an enormous advertising budget, but they also took over all of EA's MMO projects as EA Mythic.
Also I saw a few surveys for all of the gaming companies and you know who has great feedback as a developer? EA. EA was far ahead of all other third party developers and the only company ahead of them was Nintendo with a higher rate of satisfaction with their products.
So yes EA Mythic has a better reputation in the World then Blizzard does. Remember how Blizzard came to get this large number of players of WoW. It has nothing to do with the quality of the game (even though that is what Fanboys want you to think) it has to do with their advertising campaign. They advertised to every single Bnet player. So out of their 40 or so Million Battle net players they have turned 8.5 million into WoW players. Think about it if EA advertises Warhammer online with each of their products they reach over 100 million players even if they get 1% of those people to play warhammer that will be over 1 million.
That is the only way someone will compete with Blizzard. Most WoW players don't play it because they think Blizzard is so great. They play it because they think it is the only game of it's kind. The only comparable thing would of been if Sony made every single TV, VCR, DVD, blu ray disc player, etc play an advertisement for Everquest 2 each time you turned it on. You really don't think more people would be playing EQ2 today if they had done that?
Don't be fooled into thinking that WoW's success actually has anything to do with the strength of the game.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
In september 2004, Blizzard had 12 million active users. So your assuming that the vast majority of players are ex-battle.net players, who were always used to play games online for free. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how many people are still against a monthly fee. Also, Blizzard's Battle.net was mainly popular in the west and in Korea, but not as big in china. yet the subscriber base of WoW in China is in the millions. Ofcourse the quality has something to do with it, people don't play games if they don't enjoy them.
We point out things that are wrong with the game and your defense is 8 million blah blah. We say the game added nothing new. You say 8 million. We say the game killed content by adding the xpac. You say 8 million.
Yeh when you don't have anything else to say it's always safe to go with the numbers >_< Gosh I'm so sick of those numbers.

Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
We point out things that are wrong with the game and your defense is 8 million blah blah.
We say the game added nothing new. You say 8 million.
We say the game killed content by adding the xpac. You say 8 million.
