I was in high hype on this game too. After I watched their recent video and the release of Two World, I've given up this game. I don't think they can solve all those problems when release.. The release date is just 2 months from now. Also, I am not sure if any of you have noticed another game which also released on Xbox360 and PC called Two World. I found this game looks very similar to AOC (at least on graphics) and it was released with high hype too. I've tried and the combat is 90% similar to AOC's video. You swing your weapon and you totally don't feel you have hit the mob and he falls. if u have read the review of two worlds, the game sucks with different kind of bug in combat, mount fighting and collision detection.
Just to illustrate what i miss in the combat footages, i made 2 very simply clip. Bare in mind, they are made without, biped( takes forever to rig) and without physique - used like 10 mins:). Should however show exactly what i miss:
1. With no reaction to a slap; i added a flash which might help abit:
There's way more important things to be fixed than combat animations if you listen their beta testers. Servers for instance. Had they not done this we would have another Vanguard in out hands in october. It was a good decision and it was the only right thing to do.
They certainly failed to mention having any server problems in that letter to the community or any of the posts made by devs. (Unless I missed those)
Thanks for a tidbit of perhaps insider info. Or can you link to this information?
Beta servers usually suck, due to continious testing of what it can or cannot handle. You'll be playing on a much higher quality one if the game was in retail.
AoC isn't the only game to have a ''crappy'' server in beta.

2. However with a actualy physical reactuion to the slap, things seems much more satisfying:)
hopefully we will see more PvP and stuff this week ^^ hope that the game-play will be "real" as funcom says. but for now I can only be patient and openminded...bah!!... wish that I could come to Leipzig so I can see and maby try it for my self.

Real gameplay ?. Just a on sidenote. Funcom's PvP engine is just named "Real Combat". There is nothing real about it. Just Funcom's way to the revolutionary. Heck, and it going to be revamped.
Whatever age of conan is like. If it reaches my expectation or not. If it flops or is a soaring success. There is one thing that is a constant for me ::
Thank goodness its not the same old WoW-esque combat system and someone is trying something somewhat different. I couldnt do with another press a button .. sip some tea.. press a button.. sip some tea type affiar.
Good on ya funcom... now remind me to edit this post if you flop badly
I don't really remember where, but I saw a PvP video of some guy who was on Beta running around on his guy (who was that old class that got merged with Barbarian, the class that could duel wield etc.) and he was doing some PvP against other players in a forest. It was actually very smooth, and clear even when the guy got on his horse and started charging people very fast. It wasn't overwhelming however because it was in a forest and so you couldn't see everything and also it was a bit fuzzy.
Check some videos on bymitra.com I think I found it there.
Not trying to flame here but have a question. How come if you swing your weapon and just hit anything your sword comes in contact with would you need a targeting window. It doesn't make since to me.
I think if MMO's are going to turn to a more realistic combat system, they need to dumb down the graphics a little, that way its not as slow and more can be focused on the combat. One example here would be Savage, its not an MMO, but i would surely look into an MMO if it had combat like that.

Yeah... ummm you mean MMO-esque. Not WoW-esque. Considering all MMOs have used that sytem both before and after WoW. With of course the exceptions of Mount and Blade, UO, and a few others. (if Mount and Blade isn't real-time combat, I had no idea. And it always looked like it was to me)
Still saying something that's a staple in 90% of all MMOs is WoW-esque is pretty ignorant.

Look youv'e made me cry now. OK fine it isn't just WoW its nearly every game in the genre with uninspired lacklustre combat. WoW is sadly the successful one that all MMO developers feel the need to emulate down to a microlevel ( Warhammer anyone?).... How thats then ?
You know I didnt think it wise to go on MMORPG and say 99% of all MMO's suck and are cliche. I thought i might alienate my audience a bit so I basehed the WoW. But hell ... 99% of MMO combat is cliche and been there done it. There I said it !
Ignorance is sometimes bliss.

Why do you assume Warhammer is a copy of WoW down to a micro-level?.....
If it's because of the combat well Mythic's previous game DaOC had that comba aswell and was out long before WoW.
If it's because of the Orc's and Gobbo's being big and green well Warhammer was the first to d that, Blizzard took the look for Warcraft as it was meant to be the first Warhammer rts.
Warhammer is very different from WoW heres some exapmples...
1. No stealth
2. Very little CC
3. PvP/RvR focused ( an upgraded version of DaOC's RvR which is said to be the best PvP in an MMO) which incluses zone capture and city sieges
4. 24 classes at launch as opposed to WoW's 9 or 10
5. Customistation in the form of armour dyes, banners, trophies
6. Guild levels
7. Public quests
8. Experiance gained from killing other players that are lootable
9. Although we haven't seen the crafting system Mythic have said they want to change the way crafting in MMO's is done and really innovatew with it
10. Tome of Knowledge which records your avatars life in the game, gives rewards ect ect.
Just off the top of my head i came up with all these things in Warhammer that differentiate it from WoW, so i cannot understand how you can come to the conclusion that it is copying WoW down the micro-level.
Time to let this thread die now? think its covered everything and even goes off topic.
I love your way of making up stuff Fion, if you ask anybody who played WAR at any show and ask them if it plays or look like WoW they will tell you it doesnt, and if you compare screenshots from one and the other, you can see huge diferences, just because they have similar settings doesnt mean they are the same...
The worst thing is, you will prolly be one of the firsts to play WAR and love it when it's released even while you kept trashing it.... hypocrisy ftw.
