    As a rule appearance shows.

One more time - criticism != trolling. Both sides of the discussion are valid, unless you have been elected supreme ruler of all TR discussions or something. If so, I do humbly apologize and will now set about the task of bludgeoning myself about the noggin with a soggy trout.

I was hoping you'd consider electing me as the Supreme ruler of all TR discussions.  I will be a fair and kind ruler.  I will allow casual friday, and free beer wednesday.  If my rules are not met with the utmost diligence I shall crush those underneath myself with an iron fist. Just keep me in mind when election day rolls around. No biggy or anything.

Don't get me wrong, I do like TR so far. I was just expecting something a lot more innovative from all the PR coming out of the Garriott camp leading up to now.  /shrug

I'm learning to ignore P.R. and just playing a game for what it is. The biggest difference between the way I'm looking at this is that it is completely new style of game play for me.  Think this game resembles Kotor some what and it really plays well.

I've actually not read anything from Richard Gartiot proclaiming anything that was being exoected. Unlike Brad Mcquaid,  Richard Garriot is one of the most professional gaming Icon in the Business and he is renowned for his ability to deliver. Richard Garriot produced way more games as Mcquaid and to even say that this game is a failurre like Vanguard is absorb and idiotic.

This game works, this game has very little hardware issues, this game has content, this game has style as well as a lot of people enjoying themselves in this open beta. Vangaurd had none of that.

If you ever want to learn something right now, you can't listen to P.R. marketing , they are just to sell the game and in the industry right now they will say anything, Marketing has nothing to do with R.G. and you will find that most developers and marketing agents are always at odds with something being said.

As a game , for me, T.R. is a great cross over and it has a lot of things to do in it, that when I first read the concept in 2004, was exactly what I'm playing right now.

Most people who don't like a game won't get past the first 10 levels.  When I played WoW, I was so bored with it I stopped playing at level 8.  Never looked back either.  Personally if I didn't like the game I wouldn't keep playing.  You can't tell people, "Man once you get to lvl 40 this game is SO much FUN" because noone would play a game that's only fun after level 40. That means you waste a month and a half of time and money before you have any fun in a game, and that isn't even guaranteed.

If it's not fun out of the box it isn't worth it.  I think this game is fun out of the box, now once I hit max level.... eh... that's another story.

One of my tests I do during a beta is reroll a character multiple times at the start area. It is a test to see how boring or exciting the games first levels are, I do this for every beta I participate in.

T.R. rerolls produced different armor and weapons on each roll, as well as on each roll I learned more about the game and on my 10th roll, I found the game to become very fluid. It was like playing a single player 3rd person action game, but in a mmo setting.  It is marvelous concept in my opinion and hope Lord British knows better then to listen to after school trollers.

Great Job by Richard Garriot for finally listening to the bellows of the peopkle who want something completely different from the current trends. I will be playing T.R. at release !
Maybe I'm playing a different game than you are?

Character design... meh it was alright.  Considering after you start the game about the only thing that you ever notice about those initial choices are : Height and Sex... everything else, armor, hair etc changes within 1 hour when you get new gear.

Special Effects. I'm going to guess your talking about the graphics engine. Its nice. Plays ok, looks like crap on old systems. On a super duper high end system it does look amazing. I sometimes feel like I'm going to have a siezure with the explosions in your face (melee finish on a laser gun etc).

Hardcore? Not even remotely. Sorry but this game is cake for me thus far (lvl 20s of all 4 classes). I've soloed every mission and instance to lvl 20 with the exception of 3 Devils (and that would be doable with some patience).  The questing is cake, you click the toggle, it shows you where to go 90% of the time.

The UI is horrid. Its simply horrid. It needs major tweaking to make it more friendly. Grouping is ... not needed.

I will agree its fun, I like that I don't need to group. I like the big world with dynamic stuff going on. However I think it needs to be more dynamic. More control points, higher level range of attackers and defenders to draw in players from other zones on occasion. I could go on and on.

Right now, I'd buy it, play it until WAR comes out and cancel my sub as I am enjoying the story.  Gameplay wise its meh.

What serious tweaking needs to be done to it? It is the most simplistic UI I've seen in 7 years of MMOs.

I'm pretty sure I'm hopelessly addicted to this game. It was very unimpressive at first, but as I leveled I began to see the depth and complexity of building a character (and his gear) and getting used to the combat system, and I'm liking it a lot now. I just wish the character appearance creation options were more in depth to match...

To me it reminds me of WoW crossed with SWG without all the ghey faerie stuff and much better storylines for the questing than either of those games.

I love the fact that it's new IP so the NCSoft developers are free to make it their game instead of trying to shoehorn a game into someone elses vision.

The music is awesome too. It reminds me of Eve NPC mission music a little. Top notch production quality for every aspect. I'm still hitting terrain bugs here and there, but the skill system, art, terrain, mmo combat and music direction is seriously better than anything I've seen in a ground based sci fi mmo. I'm feeling a little pre-cu swg about this game. It's good stuff... I think this one will go down as the best ground sci fi mmo ever. The Eve guys have space all locked up LOL.

You really really need to play this game for more than a few hours to "get it" and see how deep the rabbit hole goes... I didn't realize it til about 20 hours into the game.

I really did not notice the in-game ads, until I read about them here. As I recall, I have only seen them once last week. It's not like they ruin gameplay or anything. It's quite amusing how they implemented it IMO. Relax, it's all in good fun.

You "heard" about lack of content? I have been in open beta a week, and see no lack of content through tier 3. Have you even tried the game?

Look, I understand "word of mouth" is a powerful tool in deciding what game to play, but make your own decison yourself. I don't know how many times friends/family tell me how good or bad a movie is, and I feel the opposite when I see it. A friend and I went into TR open beta expecting crap, but now we are both sticking to this game.

Yea for the cost of a 3 day movie rental you can join the beta and try the game out. Me too about the crap. This game is damn good and is far better than I imagined it would be. I'm very impressed with the content. All the content I've seen is bad ass... You just need to play for more than 2 hours to start understanding it and see it for what it is, and that's a top notch game. With CoH and CoV I thought NCSoft was a one trick pony so expected guild wars with a sci fi skin.

My only complaint, other than the usual beta issues, like memory leaks and lag (both of which seem to be getting under control) is the character creation needs to be more in depth. I've seen 4 characters that looked identical to mine.... Facial sliders for all the facial features would do it.

lmao...why would we attept to get to end game!? When you get to lvl 10 its the same as lvl 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9, and same with 20 and so on. Do you expect there to be some grand end game content thats in the game now they havent told us about? Mobs are NOT a challenge and instances can be solo'd easily. Im sorry to sound like a tool but there is nothing else, not sure what your seeing here that we are not.

I agree the game is easy and that you don't have to reach end game to draw a conclusion, but thats not to say the game doesn't change as you increase in level.  Enemies do get harder (lvl 22-25s can be solo'd easily by my lvl 16 ranger but there are some enemies that give me some trouble)  The weapons get alot more fun, and you get alot more skills to kill your already easy to kill enemies.  I do like how they have the multiplier though it keeps me entertained to see how many of them I can kill, that is an ingenious idea.

I think you are over exaggerating the point there a bit much. I bring this up, because you actually cannot hit a bane more than +5 levels from your respective level. It is something the develpers put in to sort of cap people killing things way above their pay grade, so to speak. I can understand if the bane is level 19~20 and you are 16. I do that all day long. Kill level 27-29 atta at level 24.

I'm pretty 100% sure that I was attacking and killing 22s in Torden plains with my lvl 16.  When I get home tonight I'll double check but I'm very positive that they were 22's.  I'll take a screen shot.  Torden plains is between 20-25 and I definitely roamed around there for about an hour or so.

Too many good games coming out to waste any money on Crapula Crasha.

um, it's BETA!!!!! That means still testing. No one can make an accurate prediction of how the game is going to be in it's final stages.

WoW went through the same hardships initially too. In fact Wow character development is STILL and ongoing process.

I'm not sure I like the controls so much just yet - graphics look great but, gameplay is choppy and unfinished - you definatly get that beta feel. But, it definatly has potential!

OP is way over the top. Maybe RG is his dad?

TR is ok, graphics are passable and the gameplay is alright. It is by no means nearly as good as the viral marketing guy who started the thread says though.

-Its too easy, which becomes boring fast

-No reason to group at all. A solo player can do instances that are suppose to group , you can kill any mob within 5 lvls.

    -Graphics are Meh

Gameplay is extremely repetitive, and gets boring quite quickly. Run and gun in virtual god-mode *yawn*. Stickie targeting means you don't even have to look at your target much once you lock it with TAB key. You can lock the target, then run in circles jumping around looking at the sky and keep hitting the mob. Its stupid.

OP says people who don't see how great this game is aren't real gamers? Haha!

    Idiocy.

It is in its final stages, its gone gold AFAIK. That means the beta excuse doesn't cut it anymore. They aren't fixing things in the base code until the day it ships.

  • ethionethion Member UncommonPosts: 2,888

I'm gonna agree with the OP.  I've been playing for 2-3 weeks and Im really liking the game.  I am running into some bugs but nothing that can't be fixed and nothing I'd consider huge, like crashing etc.  Game is very solid and plays well for me.

Just read the update about the crafting system and the auction houses going in next week maybe and It is even more exciting.  Also read about the elder game plans and the lvl 40 unique mounts.

So it seems to me like their is a log of cool stuff coming and the current game is fun and revolutionary.  I still can't point to one game that captures the feeling of being alive as well as this game.  Some people say CoH but I disagree.  CoH is a weak imatation that doesn't feel real at all.  In TR you feel like you are in a war, action is happening all around you, there are people fighting bullets whizing by, bombs dropping from the sky.  There ain't anything like it.

And for casual play where you want to play for an hour TR also completely excels.  You load it up and drop into the battle full bore.  You can grab a mission and head into combat and an hour can fly by before you notice it.

2-3 weeks? then you've no experience of the game when it actually was fun, all you know is a broken shadow of what the longer beta participants know

too bad, if you had the deeper experience you would see it for the gilded turd that it actually is

but, wtf, if youwant to waste your money on an extended open beta, go right ahead, I won't.

I'm guessing the complaint is that it's *too* simplistic. I do like the spartan approach, but I'm still trying to get used to "equipping" a skill on the fly before I can use it. Not necessarily a bad design, just different from what I'm used to.

The only real problem I have with the UI is the chat window. If is it very active at all, I find it nearly impossible to read, as the text scrolls by so fast. If you don't get a message read before it scrolls off the screen, give it up, as you'll never be able to scroll back up and keep it in the window well enough to read it. Is there some sort of "do not autoscroll chat windows" setting I'm missing?
