I'd like to see it suceed but I know it won't It's on the xbox360. right there is a death sentence.
I still dont understand PC elitism. Admittedly Im a bit dorky, but for the love of calculus, dorks turning their nose up at a console because they feel superior based on their choice of input? Well thats just hilarious.
Dork #1: Macs are the greatest, down with PCs
Dork#2: No sir, PCs are better, forget Macs
Dork#3: Well I prefer playing on my 360
Dork#1: What? Xbox? What a loser.
Dork#2: Yeah, when the elastic in our underwear bands give out, and we can get down off this coat rack, we should give that dork a wedgie.
You played it for a week a few months ago, and you think that is enough time to judge a game that was still 8-10 months from release? I wish I had gotten a key. I would have actually made an attempt to get into the game and give feedback that might help funcom.
to be honest with you i think b4 too long i would not be surprised if consoles don't take a big chunk of the MMo market i mean think about they are way cheaper then a top end PC and are up to standards with the High end Pc's they are portable so you can take em anywhere quite easily so more time to play when you are away on holidays and for the most part no need to upgrade in any great hurry with these things what they come out every 4 years or so? i seem to be upgrading my PC every 6 months these days just to keep up with the jones's but i guess i will stick with my Pc for the most part and settle for the PS3 for the other part.
I know the game will be very disappointing to many MMO players, but on the flip side it should be pretty sweet on the xbox360. The linear nature and single player feel without any important group tactics and so on should work pretty nicely.

Consoles will invade the MMO genre, in some cases they already have (ffxi). Personally I go between both platforms based on the situation. But I certainly dont have a chip on my shoulder when it comes to a persons preferred playstyle.
I'm not being an elite. I'm simply stating that mmo's don't belong on consoles It's a long term game that is supposed to mature with age.. you don't put that kind of mentality on a static platform that isn't upgradeable.
It's just stupid.
By doing so you limit the evolutionary process of an mmo on the PC, and therefore get a crappy product over the long haul due to console limitations.
I get where you are going, however I have to call into question why you think that it being on a console warps or prohibits game development.
FFXI, on the xbox 360 is a lot of fun, i play it on my pc when the kids are watching TV, but frankly I really enjoy playing it on a much bigger screen from my lazy boy. I havent seen any sort of negative side effects of having 360 players in ffxi, in fact I think its great, its brought more people to the servers, and thus has if anything helped keep the game healthy.
Ive grown up on video games, having started my journey on the Atari 2600, I really have to say that consoles have come a long way. With each generation of consoles the line between pc and console becomes a little less definite. Consoles now have hard drives, wireless capability, usb ports, video cards (not in the classical sense, though Radeon, and nvidia are resposible for the graphics components of this new generation of consoles, which again, says something) You can do far more with a console than you ever could in the past. I wouldnt be suprised if 10 years from now, theres very little difference between a PC and the consoles of the time.
Well to take over the mantle of biggest MMO flop this game would really have to be a disaster. I played Vanguard at release and it wasn't even complete enough to be called a beta. Tabula Rasa ran well enough but had 0 content. Both those games cost 10's of millions to make and made nothing close to that. I don't know what the AoC pricetag was but I'm sure it wasn't cheap no matter how good or bad it is.
I have to say though if they don't lift the NDA or have any kind of open beta that's a big red flag to me. Sure stuff will leak out. It always does, but it's hard to make any kind of judgement if you can't test the game yourself.
I'm actually 100% *for* the console MMO's + PC MMO's. The whole concept of MMO's are to have tons of players, and if you're giving me access and opportunities to play with an audience I would normally not have been able to play with, than I'll tip my hat to you.
I was a huuuge fan of FFXI, and that game introduced PS2 players to the same world as PC players. While I definitely do understand some people's concerns (the hardware not being able to be upgraded on a console) it didn't really cause many problems at all. The only issue, in fact, was the locked FPS rate of FFXI, and I actually considered that a good thing.
I also support the use of console MMO's for the simple fact that it's not a pain in the ass.Think about it. When developers make a game for PC, there are thousands of bugs based on the fact that tens of thousands of players have different rig configurations, hardware setups, software configs, etc etc. I am 100% for "Requirements: Xbox 360" over "Minimum Requirements: ...... Recommended Requirements: ....... Warning: not compatible with: ........." warnings.
In fact, the only arguement I have against console MMO's are the maturity levels. Generally speaking, when FFXI released on the PS2 in America, I specifically remember people isolating "console kiddies" from the PC crowd. Why? Because no one wants to talk to "ppl like dis bcuz dey tink it kewl". Really though, it's not even fair to say that, since there are tards on PC's running around too. Anyone who ever played WoW and ran through the Barrens knows this...
Plus, with console play, friends of mine who aren't willing to drop money on an expensive computer like I did will be able to play with me. And I'll be damned if I'm going to complain about being guaranteed a competent party member.
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
Bascially your argument is that the launch should be delayed. If there are huge numbers of server crashes I agree that should occur. However, to say that the game is a flop, you cant call that until release...no matter whats happening in beta
I reckon it'll be a disappointment like Warhammer to everyone that are expecting something new or fun.
That's sort of my fear really. Due to the long wait many have had for a new game, the expectations for WAR/AOC are so high right now maybe they can never meet our expectations.

I'm expecting something fun out of AoC, but then again, that is, in major parts, dependant on who I play the game with. Since my gf is joining me to play, I will most likely have my fun, even if it's not the MMORPG's second coming, provided they don't let off a "Launch" like Mourning or some such.
I can take afew problems at launch, I can even take a little missing content at launch (depending on what it is, Drunken Brawling for instance is not really something I NEED to have fun and some people might remember that other MMO's launched with missing features and still became a great success). As long as it's not completely unplayable and totally content-less (which I highly doubt, because "my" little birds tell me it is coming along nicely)., I will most likely have my fun.
But of course, that is to each their own. Personal tastes and all that.

im tired of all these fucking threads. go do something and shut up until the game is released
EXACTLY!
I couldn't agree more, no one has a clue and we're all just blabbing on and on. In addition some people are anticipating the fall of a potentialy good game. How negative is that? The most interesting thing I find about all these kinds of posts is that no one is posting about Metin2, Age of armor or Poxnora, people pick 1 of the most popular up and comings and "hope" that it fails... Its sick really.
Don't confuse a players ability, with a class being Over Powered.
I thought ths solo beginining content was ingenious because it not only gave a player an uninterrupted tutorial, but it acts as a filter of sorts.
For one, You don't get a massive influx of players at starting points. Maybe this wasn't the main reason Anarchy Online (FunComs first MMO) launch was horrid due to lag, but I can't imagine it alleviated those woes.
So you have a solo adventure which then tosses you into Multiplayer mode after level 20, that means some players will churn through this content in a few hours, and others will take longer. If FunCom was smart, I'd offer optional quests and goodies that can be discovered in this solo content area. Little nuances for player who want to leave no stone unturned. From a developers standpoint, more time in a solo instance means less influx in the starting points at one time. Less chance of lag.
Also gives players a reason to replay the starting adventure. Maybe there are some trinkets to be found, titles or temporary trophies to be won, just because you took the time to look around instead of sprinting to the end.
Back to the topic at hand. AoC will do fine. Namely becuase we hunger for something new, it will fade a little because i do not see anything that amazing out there. I was really hoping to se spellweaving. But failed promises seem t obe the norm these days..
I am starting to think Pirates Of The Burning Sea will take the top spot. In two months their player base is almost zero. But, then again, I have never seen such a shoddy, cheap put together MMO since EQ1.
Your shadows live only by the light you cast. The only reason AoC has any greater capacity to flop than some third-party F2P MMO is because it has shown greatness, and thus we expect greatness.
To me the only really big flops are the steaming piles of grind-fest branded as MMOs with their only selling point being that they're free to play; to me that doesn't justify publishing a game that's broken or simply isn't fun (to the vast majority of MMO gamers, that is; but that's a different argument entirely).
The ultimate solution to every problem: more space marines.
Everquest was not a shoddy game. Also I wasn't hyped at all for AoC other than the fact that it would be on Xbox360 (which would be nice to casually play an MMO with friends with terrible off the shelf computers).
Now I just don't see what the purpose of the game is. It doesn't have group tactics like crowd control and pulling to a large degree, its combat system is mostly just spamming and occasionally playing whack a mole, half the population thinks that it is a pvp game with low emphasis on gear (not true, devs have said that there will be phat loot, and if there wasn't then there wouldn't be an incentive to raid), the other half of the population thinks that it will be a pve game.
It can't be both or it becomes a gear grind like WoW, where raiders have a distinct advantage over those who only want to pvp (I got rank 14 in WoW, and then about a year later I came back and raided Naxx to get 5 pieces of tier 3). The gear disparity becomes larger after more raid bosses are added or unlocked.
This is not to mention, of course, the fact that borderlands are not in and not tested, nor is siege etc (for the pvpers), and no one knows if there will be pvp experience (doubt it), ranks or titles, or a meaningful reason to care about pvping (other than to own nubs).
Personally, the linear zones are the major turn off to me. I like to explore and get lost, not go through zones that are so walled in. If I wanted that I would play guild wars or baldur's gate.
To me the real tell tale sign will be funcom's position on dropping the NDA especially with it launching so soon. WoW and LoTRO have really set the bar on not launching a MMO that is broken and if Funcom is holding off the NDA because they don't want bad word of mouth this game is going to sink fast. On the other hand with all the hype and anticaption from a lot of MMO fans, good word of mouth could help this game coast to some impressive numbers.
Funcom already did drop the NDA in January for a few days and invited 18 press people around their offices not under NDA to report on how the game is coming along. (including myself :P )
So did u actually play the game for around a month in order to form an opinion? a couple of weeks? a single week? no?
Now u either dont know what the NDA every1's talking about is, or u are are trying to deceive people cause u are too much of a fanboy. Hmmmmm what is it i wonder?
On the matter at hand i think it is gonna be the biggest flop in history, unless blizzards screws up with the lich king update. Why? because even people who play the 360 are hyping it
