I am writing this thread to show the stupidity of many SWG veterans. Which makes all SWG veterans, including myself look like complete lunatics. Please read the entire thread before you post anything. Trolls, I advise you all to stay clear of this thread. I am an SWG veteran, and this thread's intention isn't to try to justify the NGE. The true purpose of this thread is to tell every fellow SWG veteran to finally shut their huge mouths, and find a new fun game to play. Just like I did. Yes I'm a genius I managed to find a game other than SWG. Please feel free to congratulate me (sarcasm).
I am very surprised and annoyed by the fact that people are still whining about the NGE and CU. It has been 3 years ladies and gentlemen. Three years!, how can you hold a grudge for so long? This next sentence will sound very sexist, and I apologize. The only people I've seen hold grudges for that long are women. You guys sound like complete fools when you whine about something that occured a few years back.
All of you that disagree with me will probably try to counter this argument by saying that you spent time and money on this game. So your telling me that every game that you played and got tired of and quit, was a waste of your time and money. My friends that is exactly what it sounds like. You had fun with SWG right? that's all that matters. Move on to a new game, no game is eternal. The only games that are eternal are vaporware.
There are many great games out there. Trust me you'll find one you like. I was one of those that was pissed off at SOE for ruining SWG, but I moved on. Yes SWG was one of my favorite games, but I got sick and tired of whining about something I had no power over. Just stay clear of SWG and play a game you do enjoy. Crying will get you nowhere. It will just make you miserable.

yeah its time to find a new game but, i couldn't find one frankly, which one did you finally end up playing? i can't find anything to keep my interest for more then 3-4 months...
nothings a true sandbox any more and once you've played a sandbox its hard to go to a linear game play style...so most people whine about it when they hit the same dead end i am at...instead i try to actively research almost every single new mmo that comes out but still haven't found one...
just my views...

Very true, that's why I quit playing mmorpgs for the time being. I've been playing single player games. In particular single player rpgs including Oblivion. Looks like my wait for a new sandbox mmo may be over. I have a feeling that Stargate Worlds will be like SWG.

Here's a reality check for you. Some of the issues related to the NGE are current, as in a real problem today, May 29, 2008. Two examples, misfiring specials, non-functional collision detection. Why are these still issues? First of all, they're frustrating as hell. Second, they are the first things SOE promised to fix the day after the NGE went live, and they still haven't fixed them.
Here's another reality check for you. People aren't whining for their toy back, they're telling fellow gamers what SOE and SWG are all about so that they don't get burned. They are also calling for changes to the way SOE does business, so that people don't need to be constantly warned about getting burned. It's called consumer advocacy.
Your assumption that people are whining over a lost toy is a baseless misrepresentation of people's actual concerns.
P.S. I'm personally enjoying another MMO very much. It works and I've never been misled by the service provider. I also have a number of leisure pursuits outside of video gaming. At the same time, I don't want to see other gamers go through what I went through, and I still think SOE needs to work on the quality of their service.
calm down. Don't go all "get over it" 'n stuff. We've all had a creepy uncle touch us in inappropriate ways some time ago. Best thing to do is talk about it, inform others, and discuss relevant issues.
Here is a paraphrased story of Saint Augustine that I think fits best with those who tell others to move on with SWG. And I think I'll just do copy and pasting for every future one for now on:
While walking one day through the food court, trying to figure out how to solve the problem of having former SWG veterans to “shut up and move on,” there is a child performing some kind of task on his Wi-Fi computer. The child would type out a full three page message and send it out to both SOE and LA. Receiving no messages in return, the kid would repeat the process.
Finding this odd and curious, “Son what are you doing?”
The boy responds, “Why I'm sending emails to SOE and LA to have them implement a “We want you back campaign” for their former customers. And I'm not going to stop until it happens.”
Responding with a chuckle of disbelief, “Son, that is clearly impossible, they won't read your messages or listen to you.”
The boy replies, “Far easier for me to finish my task than for you to find an answer to your problem.”
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
LOL@ SWG
Anyone who doesn't see things the way the OP does should just shut up. No need to express your own opinions.
Anyone who doesn't see things the way the OP does should just shut up. No need to express your own opinions.
That's not what he's saying at all. However, the sheer venom, the completely outrageous statements people make (I believe my favorite was the one that said John Smedley should be jailed), the absolute HATE (yes, HATE) for current SWG players ... all that three years after the fact, is, to be frank, rather pathetic.
I've seen people get over very painful divorces in less time than it has taken some of the people on this board to get over pre-CU.
So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.
That's exactly what he said, and I quote:
"The true purpose of this thread is to tell every fellow SWG veteran to finally shut their huge mouths, and find a new fun game to play."
Obviously it's right there in black and white -- he told his fellow vets to "finally shut their huge mouths." He then tells them to play some other game. He further explains how he feels about some of the opinions voiced in these forums:
"I am very surprised and annoyed by the fact that people are still whining about the NGE and CU."
If people still choose to discuss any version of the game and give their opinions, that's their right -- regardless of how reasonable or fanatically insane that opinion might be. I'm not a big fan of telling people to shut up or pipe down if they don't agree with someone else's opinion.
Now, I certainly agree with his sentiment to look around and find a new game that you enjoy. I did that after trying the NGE for a while and re-discovered CoX. I've enjoyed it immensely ever since. I miss the old SWG, but I understand it's not coming back and I'm getting my kicks with CoX. That part of his message is spot-on, in my opinion, and I think a lot of people have done just that.
I just don't agree with the part where he tells people to shut up and quit whining. He's certainly entitled to voice that opinion, just as much as I have the right to disagree with him on that point. People have every right to speak their mind whether he wants to hear it or not.
I think his message about the importance of finding a new game would have resonated with others better if he didn't tell people to shut up, do as he does and think as he does. I also wouldn't have made the sexist remark either, but that's just me.
Why should anyone have to "get over it"?
THAT is what's really pathetic here. Let's all just forget that we are angry and pretend like everything is alright. Your way of thinking is inherently flawed. Now, I agree that the hate mongering is also unnecessary. It's simply uncalled for, just like posts telling people to get over it. If anything, the whining shows how much people liked the original game (which they won't soon find again).
I respect your opinion on this topic, but I have no respect for your ideology. Let the people say what they will. The only reason they continue to whine is because they aren't as fortunate as you are to have found a better game. Try to understand what they are saying from their point of view rather than assume everyone is like yourself.

I think this is a very valid point that is stated very well.

I miss Pre-CU SWG. I dont often post in SWG forums because of so much angst but I am relitively new to MMO's and aside from EVE - SWG was my true love in MMOs. I have been playing online for thebest part of 6 years now and SWG was my very first "third person" MMO. It will always be one of the pillars of online gaming (pre-CU).
I tried to return not long ago thinking things may be better, and yes thinks have improved but tbh, the graphics engine is now so dated that it pales into insignificance next to modern MMO's. I only wish LA would have let SOE put the effort into keeping the graphics engine up to date rather than ruining the most "complete" MMO ever with there ill-concieved and destructive changes.
Oh and dont be disillusioned at all - LA wrecked SWG, NOT Sony. (a popular misconception imho)
They should get over it, because it is a game!. I didn't assume everyone was like myself. I was asking everyone to stop bickering. Where did you even get the idea that I think people think like me? My ideology is fine. Your acting like I'm telling people to change their lifestyle. I didn't mean to make anyone angry, but what you are saying is very annoying, and it's the same stuff I've been hearing for years from several SWG veterans.
Continue your whining. You clearly do not understand what I was trying to say. I was just trying to help you deal with the fact that SWG is now awful and will never change. By the way I didn't say I found a better game. Again you are putting words in my mouth!
Who respects someone's opinion and then bashes it? Go back to crying about SWG. I didn't know a game could really make someone so mad. But I guess you learn a new thing everyday.

Here are my suggestions for other MMORPG's.
-LOTRO
-Eve Online
-EQ II
-City of HeroesVillians
-Guild Wars
-Anarchy Online
-Age of Conan
-WoW
-Lineage II
-Entropia Universe
-Second Life
Over all I feel anyone has the right to discuss SOE's practices despite the time. I do feel a clasic server woudl be great but Smedley will never do it. I don't rip on current SWG fans as I have real life pals who enjoy the game as is but they do miss the old days. I am enjoying myself in Eve and Age of Conan. I don't agree with the original poster at all. Freedom of speech is something I cherish. So in spirit of that I think Deadmeat has done a good job with the mess he had to clean up. And I hope there is a collision system implemented. And I would love to see a server merge and one classic server. Just like EQ has.
"The true purpose of this thread is to tell every fellow SWG veteran to finally shut their huge mouths, and find a new fun game to play."
You told them to shut up. There's a big difference between telling people to "shut their huge mouths" and "asking people to stop bickering."
Everyone's entitled to their opinion. But one opinion cannot consume an entire forum board. Whenever you have a different viewpoint on these forums you instantly get put down, just like people are starting to do to me. All, because I believe that people should finally get over SWG. Everybody, and I mean everybody. Has now heard about SWG and it's problems. There is absolutely no need to keep talking about SWG's problems just to let people know that they shouldn't play it. Because everybody now knows them. Congratulations the duty of all SWG veterans is complete. You've let the world know how bad the game is. Now it's time to finally stop talking about it and move on.

Yes I did tell them to shut up. Sorry that I misquoted my own writing. I'm sure you will start bashing me for it.

Of course this is true. But should you tell the world 100+ times about it. If everybody's heard the story what's the point of constantly repeating it. Exactly it's pointless. A complete waste of time.

Actually, I was agreeing with the part of your original post in which you suggested people should try other games and see if one suited them. I mentioned that in my second post, saying I think that point you made is spot-on and related how I experienced the same thing you did above. I agree with you wholeheartedly on that point.
I just disagreed on the part about telling people to shut up and get over it because you thought they should. I also didn't think you should accuse someone of putting words in your mouth and then try to change the tone of your original message by claiming you were doing something less inflammatory.
Well I totally agree that its beyond time to move on and do something else.
What always /boggles me is this concept...
I run my own business.
Personally my goal isn't to make customers move on to be someone elses customer.
If 3 years (or whatever time) after the fact.. old customers still haven't found a new place to spend money.. that might be an indication of something..
So when I think about the general concept and what this post is about... I really gotta wonder. Especially when I think about it from the perspective of running a business and "making maximum profit" as opposed to being a former customer.
You did put words in my mouth. I clearly said that I am no longer playing mmos, and I am currently playing Oblivion. I didn't say that it was better than SWG. I am just enjoying playing it. I wasn't claiming anything. I said what I said. I just toned it down, because you didn't understand my message, and kept picking out my words, so you could prove your argument by bashing me. You just kept picking out things, like "shut up", "get over it". My original message was meant to be clear and solid. That is the only reason it sounds hostile. In fact I made it sound friendly in the second half. Since you like picking out words so much I call SWG veterans "my friends". It wasn't sarcastic, and it shows that I have respect for disgruntled SWG veterans. I just want you guys to stop whining so you can finally be happy. I used the word whining, because that was the word I used in my original post. I wanted to change it to get my message across clearly, but you would bash me for changing my words. I didn't make this thread to bash SWG veterans, I made it so SWG veterans can finally move on.
You can't say that civilization don't advance, however, for in every war they kill you in a new way.

I disagreed with parts of your posts, but that's just me giving my opinion regarding the method of delivery in the initial post. My opinion and $1.90 will get you a cup o' joe at Starbucks. And, just for the record, you originally accused Demalus of putting words in your mouth, not me.
Again, I agree with your sentiment that vets should try a new game and see if they like it. I'm not bashing you, I'm saying you're right, trying a new game, MMO or not, is a good idea and can be healthy for some people. Are we now haggling over the degree to which I agree with you on that point? lol
lol sorry about that sometimes I get too passionate about my views. I probably confused your two posts. I am clearly going crazy over this lol , no sarcasm intended. I also apologize for telling SWG veterans to shut up. But I am tired of hearing your stories over a hundred times. I'm a SWG veteran for crying out loud, I've lived it. I've been through the CU and NGE. I know what you've been through. You guys have got to understand that. You guys have had 3 years to find a game to replace SWG. I am sorry if you haven't found any good mmorpgs. I myself couldn't find one to replace SWG, so I am playing single player games until a good one finally shows up.
You can't say that civilization don't advance, however, for in every war they kill you in a new way.

Nothing wrong with being passionate Thane. I certainly respect someone who is passionate about their viewpoints and is willing to vigorously discuss and debate them.
And I respect you greatly for saying that. It takes a real man to compliment someone they were arguing with for a long period of time. I have learned a lot from this thread. Including the fact that friendliness really gets your point across.
