    I'm interested in the details.

If you cancelled your subscription, I'd like to know how long you gave AoC a try.
If you Renewed your subscription...then you would choose the first option "Subscribed and will continue to play."
If you never subscribed, I'm interested in knowing if you still want to play or not.

I canceled and played about 3 weeks while working full time.. Hit level 53 on a conquerer. I still put in around 6-7 hours a day when I had to work and 12+ on days off for 3 weeks so still not quite casual playtimes..

The game fell apart around lvl 45.. So many bugs, lack of content, either ooc server wide was broken or there was/is a lot of people who don't talk or form many groups..  Lfg system was busted when I would search for LFG players, sending tells to the people who showed up in the list said they weren't LFG..

I have way too many gripes to list but player collision while in a 6 man grouped sucked pretty bad, I can't even fathom 24 man raids or pvp... Raids I hear are pretty cut and dry, as in not much tactics involved.. The gear sucked bad.. Looked bad.. World design and layout/instances = bad.. Set paths were tedious.. Crafting was either broken or the gear looked the same as the looted crap= whats the point ?

A few of my good friends stayed since they left eq2 which was a game they liked but couldn't hold a raid force together.. Eq2 is far superior imo.. Just lacking a population and solo content.. Or even meaningful group content after you've run the same 4 instances daily for 2 months there was nothing to work for in eq2.. Eq2 has its issues but nothing like AoC which seems like one giant placeholder for a shell of a game.. It has potential but I doubt funcom knows what direction to take the game.. The rabid fanboys on their forums aren't helping them make any decisions when all they can say is, "Can I have your stuff" or "go back to wow.." Sure the graphics are pretty on a nice machine and Ive played on a nice pc with a top end card and a low end machine..

The graphics aren't enough to keep me there when I look more at mechanics of how things worked or didn't work but could have worked.. There is some major core design flaws in that game that will never be touched upon again.. basically once they get the bugs worked out, its golden for 360... Thats their target audience apparently.. The ui and lack of complexity in feats and spells make that point abundantly clear.. They got my 50 bucks.. Thats all there getting, the rest can come from 360 users who are the apparent "untapped market place"..

I gave it a shot, but won't be re-subing after the 30 days.  Doesn't hold my attention.  I struggled to force myself to play just to get off that damn island.

The thought of trying out a few alts and going through Tortage again makes me shiver.

I actually like AOC, it is fun.  Yes its a grind fest at certain points.  The combat system is alot of fun when you start out...I just wish that the results of the combinations did more.  It kind of reminds me of that action game that we play on any given console that you press the right combinations to do super cool moves. The problem with AOC is that the game is fun conceptually. But most of the game isnt there. Alot of the perks that people were looking forward to launch day were not delivered.  Sure they are comming and I look forward to that.  But untill they are implemented...why should I pay just to have to wait for it?  Alot of these bugs that people bring up also, I have not seen or been affected by.  The only bug that really, and I mean really pissed me off, was not being able to find my group members on the mini or enlarged map. I dont mind the instances either if it helps the game...however not being able to find your friends because your all in different places, or sometimes in the same place on a different instance is annoying as all hell.

I cancelled my subscription and am giving AOC 2 months to get patched, if it doesnt change, then I will just wait for Warhamemr or Aion.

Cancelled after three weeks of playing and never logged back in.... so this means what?  You have not logged in since last night?

I still play Vanguard, not s much as I should since I got the SOE Pass for all their games, but I did not defend that mmorpg when it was released, I was pissed off at Vigil which SOLD OUT and released utter garbage. I did'nt even make it past the 1st week since the Lag was unbearable and everything was broken even in the early stages of the game.

Believe me, I have tolerace and that game tested it for me. I cancelled with utter disgrace, but did return a year later to find out the game was finally playable, but all my friends had already passed the game and went back to their other mmorpgs.

Anyways, the only reason I still play it is because it is finally better than it was, but I don't waste too much time in it anymore. It is pretty damn good now and don't want to sound like a hypocrit, but I would only go full time into that game if all my friends went to that game, which I seriously doubt they will.

    -horrid graphics
    -waaay too much lag
    -no players in the world

Well there are players in the world, its just they are scattered across the many zone copies :P

I have issues paying for a game that I already play for free... and that game is Guild Wars. When I need invisible walls and multiple copies of zones I log in there... at least the pvp is fun.

Subscription is canceled with no real reason to consider reactivating at a later date.

For me the game felt kind of like Jade Empire with out a deep driving story. The starter vid makes you feel sorta pumped to play, but when you get in it fades quickly.

When I was in Tortage combat was just a series of button mashing. People in chat said it gets way better at higher levels, but at level 37 it was basically the same just with more combos and the such.

Quest dialog is standard, yet presented in a Bioware sort of way that gets old really quick. Zone copies weren't all that bad, I still saw a few people which did give it the MMO feel, but areas themselves do kinda pidgeon hole you into having to follow a determined path at times.

I ran at the highest settings at with an average FPS of about 45 which wasn't too bad at all, but the graphics themselves really didnt do anything for me, then again I am used to games other than MMOs as well, so its nothing I havent seen before. The animations were ok, but the jump animation is the most retarded jump I have ever seen. Its kinda like what Corky from Life Goes On would do if he were jumping across a roof in an action movie.

Overall the game just left me with the same 'meh' feeling I felt in beta.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

I am going to pay my subscription this month... an hopefully it will keep me occupied until WAR comes out... then hopefully it doesn't suck.  I am pretty disappointed in the lack of hyped content this game offers.  It's really small and shallow in scope.  So much of what I was looking forward to about this game is just completely missing, broke, not implemented yet, scrapped or significantly not as advertised.  It really is a shame. :(

War will be just like AoC I'm afraid.

hehehe sad as it may be i dont see a whole lot this "next generation" will offer above WoW but maybe better graphics (which i dont really care for or need).  I think ill hang with my bro and the guild till WotLK comes out.  Oh hehe ya....i bought the game, played to 20 got out of tortage and saw how effing stupid the rest of the game is....this game woulda been better served as a single player RPG with multiplayer co-op as an option.

  • warrorwarror Member Posts: 270

Games need to stop focusing so much on graphics. Really good graphics means you have to make alot of instances. Everything instanced makes the game not feel like a true mmo. So keep the graphics simple but content good so that everyone can dance on table tops in the same city if they feel like it.

Cancelled subscription: Played AoC, but quit almost immediately.

I played it for four or five days after it released but did not enjoy it. I will give it another try a few months down the line.

I honestly wouldnt trade piss in a pot for the instanced/spliced up game Funcom released.  Comming from UO, DAoC, and WoW i want a game that is open, everyone involved at once....and i dont give a witches cold teet if the graphics are top notch! Make a game, make it right, and make it feel like an actual world, not some cut up pasted back together mess.  Instances ruin immersion simple as and a very easy formula to remember.  Sorry funcom the game looks pretty to be sure, but i dont find that i actually get into the game.  I enjoy books because they create a seamless complete world....i dont wanna get halfway through a chapter to find i have to go buy the next installment releasing in 2010!

In other news the topic was returned to AoC game the purpose of the AoC Forum...

On a 3 month sub here so I think I finally made the decision on the form of subscription.  I was flipping between 1 month and 3 months.  May get a 6 month sub later but for now minor family upgrading has drawn thoughts of 6 month to a halt.

Was playing on a XP MCE machine but made the switch to a comp with Vista Home Premium. 64 X2 4200+ (same as XP comp) 8800GT 512MB 4 GB DDR2 800Mhz X-Fi Card (Yeah drug into the Vista)

The X1900GT 256MB and the 3GB 400 Mhz DDR weren't cutting it any longer for me.  I guess I eventually wanted more out of the graphics.  Now I can play on high instead of low and see some grass for once.  Yes I know I can't really use the full potential of 4 GB of RAM in 32-bit Vista.

Thoroughly dissapointed in that second to last patch though. (One with the new level up sound introduced 6/09)  I now recieve the gray map issue others have.

If I Zone under those coditions I'll become stuck in loading.  If I camp and try to re-enter under those coditions I'll recieve the out of memory error with an exit to desktop and a form to fill out for Funcom.

Yes I was playing the Vista machine without the map issue before that patch.

Level 40 with the conqueror last session but I've spent more time playing with computers and re-logging than playing.  So I consider it a "form of progress" under those conditions.

I don't plan on staying. This game seems extremely generic on all levels. A major let down for me, I was expecting a solid mmo, smooth/non jerky animations and a tight combo system with a little flare to it. The game gives me the feeling of Guild Wars or something, not a true mmo experience.

Intresting, if the poll is representative seems like about a 1/3rd will maintain a sub.

It is more of a justification of own choice thread. Polls here will never be representative. It is hard to say how many will maintain subs, but based on previous launches I estimate 40-60% subs kept which will be quite good.

Played a couple weeks, canceled, won't look back.  The game is just plain boring.

you know god doesnt like liars because that is so far fetched that i nearly pooped my pants. Vanguard wasnt even playable and yet you claim you played till month was over.

but dont say you played vanguard for 30days. thats just retarded. the only way you played this game would of been to have logged in every patch day to see if they fixed somthing and you realized they didnt. and logged back off.

Wow, learn to use paragraphs. Your attacks on Vanguard are just completely off base. I played Vanguard every day at release. I was one of the lucky ones who could run it on high settings, but you know, the game was more feature complete than AoC was at launch. It had bugs, performance issues (mainly due to it being way ahead of its time, and some sloppy code work) and some features were indeed missing. But to say the game was unplayable just shows that you are a complete moron who obviously never played the game.

I played from release until about 4 months after release. Within the first 2 weeks I ran into about 4 quest bugs, one graphic glitch, and that's it. Everything else was fine. Yup, guess that's unplayable. <rolls eyes>

So if they shipped 1.000.000 copies... maybe sold 800.000, they will have 400.000 subscribers? That will make AoC one of the most succesfull. Sad. Hope it's much less, for the good of the genre.
