Originally posted by JMadisonIV really it seems like nonsense, that nobody knows anything substantial about this game, but they've announced that they are going to take paid pre-orders for it? if someone shoved a contract in your face for a car, and asked you to sign it right then and there, without giving you an opportunity to see or read anything that even remotely has to do with the car, would you sign it and pay?
Of course I wouldn't sign, just like I won't be buying a preorder for this game. Why should they be required to prove the game is good? If you think that this is bad pr then don't buy it.
they should be required to prove the game is legit, because they want me to pay for it. period.
and no, I'm not paying for it, until i see that it is legit. and even then I'm not paying for it until I get a chance to play it and determine whether it is actually worth my money.
but if they show that it is legit, and I determine through playing that it is a good game, then i'll buy it. but not until.
and yes, the burden of proof is on Aventurine. if they want us to buy their game, they need to erase the doubts about it. period. and it is very simple to do so.
very, very simple. so simple infact, that I am stunned to see people arguing against it. Just let someone from a reputable Video Game Media Source - IGN, Gamespot, MMORPG.com-TenTonHammer..anyone - play the game in its current state right now, and write a preview article about it. that's all that needs to be done.
and yeah, this is bad PR. I've seen F2P games with better PR than this. hell, I've seen SOE games with better PR than this, and that's saying a lot.
and don't get me wrong...I WANT to play this game. I'm not one of the trolls that comes here hoping for the game to fail so I can laugh at it. I WANT the game to succeed. I WANT to open my wallet and give Aventurine my money to play the game they promised.
but there is something rotten in Denmark, and the smell is standing inbetween me and my wallet.
Give up try to talk to sense to DF fanbois. They want this game so badly that reality and common sense have no bearing on them. Sad really but the saddest part is the real problems will start after the game finally releases some day.
Just enjoy the slow motion train wreck this game is becoming and try to warn anyone even thinking of getting involved in this comedy.
MMORPG.com is a business, they get pay by dev advertise their game on the site.
If you decided to believe what ever the dev telling you and pre-order blindly then it your own fault.
Still this day u had seen about 3 homemade game play movies, some invisible beta testers, and alot alot alot of broken promises and still preorder the game, then no one can help you, haha.
i gave up on this game about 9 months ago after i saw that darkfall ( darkfail haha) going the same direction with dark n light. i just having more fun reading this forrum and see how the fanboi eatting their hearts out haha
Oh Im definitely not going to pre-order this game. I havent seen enough evidence to prove this game even exists in a playable state.
Id prefer to be there at launch or early access so I dont fall behind. It is a FFA pvp game so falling behind will likely mean getting ganked a lot so Id prefer to avoid that.
But Ive been burned too many times by MMO's lately.
Dark and Light was a total fraud. There werent any mobs or npc's in 90% of the world.
Vanguard wasnt even playable at launch, it crashed every 10 minutes. If I entered a body of water the screen went black. SOE response was to be patient they'll fix it. Sorry, I had a SWG flashback of abuse and cancelled immediately.
Age of Conan was missing a ton of features promised at launch and the game was lousy. 50 player cap per zone, are you kidding me ?
Tabula Rasa, it took 8 yrs to develop that piece of garbage ? Ive seen more complex multiplayer games than this MMO light version of a shooter game.
Pirates of the Burning Sea, very disappointing game I had high hopes for.
Roma Victor, another game that sounded absolutely amazing on paper but failed to deliver.
Im getting tired of bad games. At this point Id be willing to pay $100 a month for a decent MMO to deliver something playable.
Hell, Darkfall isn't only a joke on this site, it's a joke internet wide.
Aha sort of like these forums. I wonder why MMORPG.com would have that kind of reputation?? Damn you seem to have made a lot of posts in the past couple years...
It can't have anything to do with all the trolls that flock from launch to launch could it? Hmm I wonder. If I wasn't a fan of this site since 03 I would just give up and let it turn into what all you guys want it to be... a troll fest with no fans left of any games where all of you can talk about how much fun you USED to have and how no game could ever possibly hold any type of fun or enjoyment unless they have the production quality and standards of Blizzard.

Didn't we just have this convo the other day? I play EQ2 and enjoy it, so i don't see where you're coming off with the WoW shit. In fact, ask anyone who deals with me regularly on these forums what my opinion of WoW is. However, i do admire the production quality and standards Blizzard shows in their games, whether I like those games or not, so if that's a bad thing, oh well.
And yep, i have alot of posts. and if I added the posts made on my original zorvan accounts, I'd be well over12k.
Again, look through my post history ( very recently, even ) and you will find that I not only comment on games, but I also bullshit with other users here in the off-topic forums, help people with technical questions about computers and other stuff, ask questions about stuff, and many other things.
And the biggest spouters of mmorpg.com having a crap reputation come from the Darkfall forums. Almost every thread someone bashes this site because they don't lock us "trolls" out. And yet they admit that they have a lot more freedom to voice their opinions and concerns here than on their own forums. Amazing.
Journalism outlets ask for beta slots and early access to upcoming games all the time. There is nothing unethical, unusual, uncivilized, unexpected, or even remotely new about this practice.
MMORPG should ask for this kind of access. If they are then denied (if they haven't already been) they should make this known. As many places make known when requests for information are shot down. Yes, it should be a red flag as most of these info requests are shot down when most games are still at 6 months to a year+ away from release.
Removing their forums would be too far, and clearly playing to the deeply pessimistic outlook of events. The popular sentiment of deep problems with this game, even if based on things entirely in the land of make-believe, should be addressed. That's the way it works.
Edit: Given the nature of the incestuous relationship that the gaming press has with gaming companies, it's entirely possibly that MMORPG is playing the "if you have nothing nice to say..." card. I wouldn't respect that decision, but I suppose I can understand it well enough.
They were also under heavy restrictions, did not play the game with other players online but a demo build in Tasos office, were admitted fanbois, and were also given incentives such as being authorized to give away a beta key and having their site exposed to more people than it ever had been on its own.
However, this game is now scheduled to launch on Feb. 25th, just over a month from now. What's so wrong with Aventurine giving more media access for those next few weeks, particularly to more outlets from the EU, or even from North America?
Very true, I just think that people would rather see it in a news outlet that they are more familiar with than the Italian side of MMORPG.
The first two DF hits I saw on that website go directly to forum posts, one of which is a poll from the forum. Most of the popular websites out there have a few hits, the most recent of which being the announcement of a release date from early December.
Protection from a game that is currently asking for nothing from us?
Protection for paying for a game that might actually be a scam or not that good? Im pretty sure it is our responsibility to find out as much as we can before putting down money.
MMORPG needs to do the same as they have been doing. Report on the game as much as they are given.
I didnt need protection from Dark and Light, Gods and Heros, Vanguard or AOC and i dont need protection from Darkfall either.
... A game that is going to be released in a little over a month has no press coverage besides the interviews where Tasos regurgitates the same answers over and over again.
Wow... I just thought of something.
...What if Tasos IS a computer program?...
Not just a computer program, but a Advanced militray AI bot gone horribly horribly out of controll?
I mean wasn't Aventurines main job doing contract Adavanced computer Ai for the greek military at one time? All kidding aside though I just believe Tasos is Originalegg. BTW haven't seen much of old eggy recently, wonder if he's trying to get a refund on his "Darkfall Jan 22nd" T-shirt?
Originally posted by nileq MMORPG is hardly in any position to DEMAND anything, I think you think to highly of this site.
This is probably true as well. In fact, as far as I can tell, the relationship of the media and development has progressed (or regressed) in such a way that NO outlet is in a position to demand anything of ANY dev team.
On top of that, all sources point towards Aventurine trying to stay far and away from the spotlight. I really don't expect this to change. Tasos is probably looking at various spreadsheets detailing escalating server and infrastructure and bandwidth costs, and hoping that quite few of us give up on the game (for now).

Since one of the reason for delaying the release date of the game was the high number of potential customers, that they could'nt handle, I don't think Tasos or the other devs would mind if this site locked the forum and stopped "free advertising".
Anyway, Tasos has said once again that the potential customers would get a free trial of the game, I guess it's the open beta starting Jan 22nd, hopefully with all the content of the final game.
If you can't participate in this beta, and don't trust Aventurine, then just don't preorder , and wait a few days after the release to see the comments of the people who bought the game.
The only thing some people here need to be protected from is their own stupidity and paranoia, and i doubt that the MMORPG staff can do anything about this.
You really have no clue do you? The fanbois like you have been hyping this game since well before sept 2007. The "Darkfall is coming!" made back then is what originally got me interested. So please cut with the crap about how its the doubters that are the ones voting/hyping Dakfall best game of 2008. Sinply put you have no facts to back up your arguement and are instead resorting to attacks on those that do have facts to try and protect the game rather then face the truth of what we currently do know (as fact).
Wow, calm down there tuff guy. I've said it before, yes I am a fan and I am a boy so I am a fanboy. Happy you figured that one out. Burger king crown for you!
Are you done sitting on your highhorse now? Good, now lets get one thing straight, I havn't attacked anyone, only stated what i've seen on this board. If your feel your being attacked I would suggest you find a rated G forum for yourself.
Now you want to talk about my facts? All you have to do is look at most of the trolls history and you'll see what games they come from. Sorry to see you all bent out of shape because darkfall has a # next to it thats higher then any other game right now for release. Next time i'll try not to vote so high on a game im interested in. Oh I know I know, we shouldn't be allowed to be excited about darkfall being released. Its just not fair to you.
Ok lets talk about your facts. As the fans of DF have called me a troll on many occasions for oh say not believing it would launch feature complete on the 22nd or not believing it has Graphics better then AoC/LoTRO what game do i come from?
As to polls how did you magically skip from the Darkfall best P2P / F2P of 2008 game to its rating here? Yes i do belive Darkfall is currently the most antiicpated MMO , but i don't believe a game thats not even released is the best game of 2008 per the poll i was refering to. (The one posted here by sevarl fans urging everyone to rate DF #1 in all catagorys (best P2P of 2008, best F2P of 2008, best graphics etc.) I'll stick to my arguement it was a the fans not the doubter that lied and without ever having played Darkfall rated it best vs games that had been released.
there is a difference between being excited about a game and spouting total BS / Hyping the game dishonestly. Unfortunately In the recent past fans in this forum have generally had a hayday flaming anyone that had any doubts at all about DF, but had no problems at all in their excitement spreading missinformation and encouraging all to lie about the Game. So yes forgive me if i ride my ethical high horse. I know its just so sad when weird people like me actually expect the fans not to lie.

Yes. MMORPG.com needs to look seriously at this title now.
White Border threads aside... people are about to start parting with real world cash here.
If MMORPG.com wants to credibility then they need to insure that they, and the MMORPG community are not being taken for a ride.
If Closed Beta is really in progress, then MMORPG.com should be able to get a spot?
