Remember Superman 64. I didn't need to play it a week to know it blew goats, about 20 minutes, and then I ejected it from the console and smashed it against the wall, $40 bucks down the drain, but it was that horrible.
There have been many games through out my life that I deemed HORRIBLE! and I didn't need anymore than an hour to figure out what the hell was wrong with it.
Sure I could have spent the time going through these games to catelog every detail of crappiness, but I would rather not waste my life.
So, this guy played 3 hours, maybe those 3 hours were so horrible he really didn't feel the need to try looking for the good.
If any game, not only DF, 3 hours in, you have to SEARCH for the good in it. It is shit, eject it, and smash it against the wall.

It occured to me though, by using DF logic, Ed pretty much ganked DF and took all their loot (pride), /spit on thier game(corpse) and said some nasty things(in chat) about em after he did it. Seems like the the hardcore playstyle I here the fans talkin about in their game. I guess my advice to DF fans is the same as they give to their newbs, Its a hardcore ffa pvp game called LIFE, if you cant handle it, just go back to that carebear game DFO. What would have been hardcore was if DF came back with some good reasons to play instead of just hitting the /cry macro proving that they couldn't handle all the attitude they show to others in their own game. Another way to say it in DF language, is, if you can't handle bad reviews of your game in this market, don't even bother to trying to make it, cause other players will gank you and treat you nasty and thats just not for everyone.

To be fair, there is precendent for growing into a game. I point ot EvE as an example. There are testimonials available on this sites EvE section where people describe taking multiple trials before they "get it" and, once they reached that point, the game became very enjoyable to them. This is not to compare EvE and DF mind you, but if one forum community of a game can say it takes more then 'x' amount of time to expereince a game (and generally be correct imo), then I can understand where people, who argue that lack of time, are coming from.

Look, I was as up in arms about this review as anyone. If you go back to the first 17 or so pages you will see that, but let it go for a while. Eurogamer is doing a second review. Let the second review get done and go from there.

Newspapers print retractions all the time, they don't just stand by something if there is a chance it's factually inaccurate. People who play this game say that it's inaccurate so they are covering their bases.

I could only play this piece of garbage for 2 weeks out of my 34 days. I had to quit. While the reviewer may be inaccurate about a few things, he wasn't wrong about the game. yes, he may have missed some of the hotkeys to do stuff like remove the UI.. But he was dead on when he talked about the terrible UI and lack of features.
DF is a terrible game. I don't see how anyone who has played a modern MMORPG could bear to stand it. Honestly, it's like playing UO back in 2000, but missing most of the features.
And why are people believing Tasos about the reviewers gametime
1. Remember when Tasos said that there would be gamesites that would be allowed to play (and report) prior to release?
2. Remember when Tasos said the game was 'feature complete' back in December? look at the feature list on the site, about 1/10 of them are actually in game
3. Remember when Tasos said they would never announce a launch date unless they were sure they would release?
4. Remember when Tasos said players would be able to try the game before they bought it?
Heck, those are just the lies that I remember him telling in the last 6 months. Can you really trust him when he tells you the amount of time a reviewer spent in the game?
To be fair though, I would give the game a 4 or 5 out of 10, just because it is stable and 'playable'. It lacks features, and is a dumbed down version of a FPS.. but it is playable.

To be fair though, I would give the game a 4 or 5 out of 10, just because it is stable and 'playable'. It lacks features, and is a dumbed down version of a FPS.. but it is playable.
I read a number of posts over this topic. I also actually read the entire review and Tasos's counter-post.
The Review was horrible. Any "writer" or "reviewer" of a game should be ashamed of themselves to post such drivel. The inaccuracies aside, this review was an attack, not just on the game but on the players.
No Review can be written with only an hour in-game. This isn't MineSweeper or Checkers, this is a broad multu layer complexity. You could play and review Barbies Dreamhouse for 10 minutes and write a horrible review and I wouldn't hear a word of it, theres no integrity in that.
Listen kids, this is different then playing a game for 30 minutes and saying "I don't like it" and quitting and never returning. This is a Review. This is his **JOB** to play and review a game. If we all took as much pride in our work as he did in his the world would be a much scarier place I can tell you. I wouldn't go in to do a Restaurant review.. eat one bite of the appetizer and say the whole meal sucked....
Secondly, Tasos's reply -- albeit warranted -- was a low blow and a sad last resort. When you become public you are suceptible to public scrutiny and you should go into that knowingly. After all that has been said by people on these many forums he should be used to these types of comments, but the fact of it being an "official word" obviously makes it much more of a problem for him. Its a sad stand that Tasos took... as this was the first of many reviews to come and from an amateur and disillusions reviewer at that, he took it upon himself to challenge the review. He can't challenge every review thats bad, and he has to learn to live with poor reviews.

Aventurine are retarded in many level, distribution, planning and communication, but the game is great, and can only get better.

Yes, the review was poor - but Tasos's reply was far worse, from a business standpoint.
This was a *bad* business decision by Tasos - this type of information will show up when someone Googles DFO for a long time to come, and it's going to cost them customers.
The average player is a teenager playing on their parent's credit card. The parent Googles DFO to check the game out beforehand and tells their teenager..."No way".
Kiss thousands of potential customers goodbye for a stupid PR stunt by the developer.

And I don't feel that "parents are for a large part retarded" ( way to use an offensive term though ) - I'm a parent and some how my children all turned out fine, which is the way it is for most people.
