We are at the end of Q2 right now, how do you get "almost a full year" from now until Q4? At the most it can only be 6 months, since Q4 starts in 3 months.
In all likeliness MO will be a heavily cut down version of Darkfall, since there are no player-built cities and no siege content. So it will be a lot less of a sandbox game.
Darkfall is already a good game now, but with 3-6 more months of polish and content patches like we have been seeing it is hard to imagine MO being better than Darkfall.
Personally I think MO will have more of an effect on AoC than Darkfall.
Mortal Online is a MMORPG, Darkfall is not. Therefore it will have more of what people seek in a game. More people = Even more people.
Darkfall is already hurting on subs and can bearly keep their doors open with such little monthly revenues. Expect it to fold later this summer, with or without MO's help. There just isn't enough interest in a shoddy game with crappy gameplay mechanic in the year 2009.
"No they are not charity. That is where the whales come in. (I play for free. Whales pays.) Devs get a business. That is how it works."
MO would have an impact on DF if it was released soon. However, the game is in beta and should be in beta for quite some time, at least 6 months + honestly. If they release early like other recent MMO's then they will just repeat the same failures as AOC, DF, POTBS etc etc etc.
At this time i dont see DF surviving to the point where anything another game does is going to have an impact on it. Simple fact is that the NA server will bring in some new subs, but the majority of people who have tried it wont bother to come back. In a game that at best has around 25k active subs, with mabye 40-50k units sold, its just not going to sustain the required playerbase to be anything more then a minor blip on the MMO landscape.
DF needs major changes and improvements prior to NA release, and frankly from what i can tell its not going to happen, given the preformance of the dev team to date. I am not talking about balancing, i am talking about fundamental changes to aspects of the game to make them more player friendly. The DF release, and yes it was a release, has generated extremely bad word of mouth, and it was released as a untested, paid beta for the consumer. NA wont change the glaring flaws DF has, and given the NA gamer mentality frankly i see the negative publicity factor being much larger then it currently is.

How many people in your clan are actually building anything.
Have you ever been able to build anything?
I'm not talking about harvesting or grinding. How many people in your aliance have ever experienced the city building mechanics?
Explain how you benefit the city outside of pvp.
Explain how a city benefits you in ways that not being a member of that clan doesn't.
Explain what seige content was being used in the first two months DFO released.
What kind of content is available to me outside of mass pvp?
Do you have any screenshots of people exploring a dungeon, or some sort of interesting PvE content, when you aren't mass pvping? Or do you only mass PvP?
When MO releases it's possible that I may have to defend MY home.
I may need to have a home with others, and we may need to form a clan and lay claim to the land around OUR homes.
From what I understand, housing will be neccesary for forming guilds. They are tied together.
I don't know what basic housing means. Will they be destructable? Will only a ceritan number of kinds be abailable?

I think the vast majority of MMO players don't even read the forums that much, and especially not MMORPG.com. I think almost everyone knows that MMORPG.com is full of trolls. I have been watching DO and MO from a distance for a long time and only started playing Darkfall in the last 3 weeks. It's good - MUCH better than the picture this forum paints. I love the fact that you actually have to AIM your attacks and that you can't just spam buttons. That alone makes Darkfall a cut above all the other MMOs out there for me. I have not yet seen any siegeing but I cannot wait.

Sorry...It's the truth! We have seen it several times over the last 10 years.
MMORPG cost money to run and Aventurine's business model is a failed one. Therefore to continue keeping the doors open is costing the investors more money each month. It's just cheaper to file bankruptcy, which they will soon do.
Secondly, there will not be a NA server, because Aventurine does not have the $120k to lease or rent one.. it all just lip service by Tasos, who is trying to create excitement, to see if people will flood back to the game, to show investors they need more time to repay them back, etc.
Therefore, closing the doors by late summer is probably what will happen... leaving Tasos with an incredible amount of egg on his face and embarrassment for his pathetic leadership and many, many lies.
Tasos is just too ignorant of the MMO space and how he got the job was the bigges mistake of all.

It will be intresting to see how MO will fare, the devs seem to be focusing a lot in the fluff while DF devs concentrated on the core gameplay, then again MO seems to be playing good - but how fun or balanced will it be?
DF is getting specialization paths soon(tm) which most likely will allow people skill areas faster which is good because it allows for "specialized troops" but we have to see how it all turns out, hopefully this also means that characters that trained magic, melee and archery already to max have to choose one area that they still can continue to excel instead of all the areas and make the gap between new and old players smaller.

??
Because we know they don't even have $2k to re-hire their webmaster and redo their website like Tasos promised 2 months ago... and fix all the felonious FAQ lies they have stuffed in there, etc.
SEAN, where have you been the last 3 years...? Or even the last 3 months..? Obvious, you are a newbie to spout-off like that, making people laugh at you. tisk tisk.
Secondly, we also know their business model was shot all to hell when during beta it was obvious their Net-Code wasn't going to hold up and ever see 10,000 people online at one time. Making thier return on their investment for the sole server alot longer to pay off or buy down.
Now, given the fact that nearly 99% of the beta apps are no longer interested in the game and Darkfall has seen an extremely high turnover rate... they can only float for so long before they have to close the doors.
How much do you think the interest on $12million is...? Then add in the cost of running the game and paying the employees, leasing the server, leasing bandwidth, etc. It's more than they are taking in each month. So where do they come up with the enormous cash to start a North American server and hire a company to manage it ..?
Even a 15 year old can see that it's unsustainable!!
How old are you..?

Zodan,
Darkfall needs a complete rewrite of their skill system (skill tree) before the game will ever go anywhere. As it stands, it is not a real skill tree, because as you gain skills they do nothing, you have to reach a certain level (5 times in each skill tree) before your character gain any benifit. A real skill system is like what Everquest had, where each increment, you character get that much better, no matter how little.
Aventurine didn't code for instantaneous skill ups and as it stand you have to "level" whatever skill you are working on, for a reward/benifit.
= Epic Fail!

Mortal online is not the only skill system real time combat MMO heading out way. There are two others that are Sci Fi.
Yip Earthrise and Fallen Earth ...also Heroes of Telara. Actually there seem to be several games coming out that offer Skills based advancement instead of levels .Exciting times

hehe, yeah, i also read bethesda is working on a fallout (!!!) mmo, which will most likely be skillbased too ... awwww, happy times ahead. o/
the fallout series and planescape torment were the best rpgs i have ever played.

Two servers planned, one soon. So as it turns out, the can afford it and will be buying one. Its also worth noting that the gradual release model that AV is currently using is nearly exactly the same one that the MO developers will be using. This gradual release was already planned long time ago.

Sadly you are absolutely right and no fanbot will even pickup on your questions because we all know the answers to them only really a hand full of ppl, have touched these mechanics EVERYONE is boasting and to why this game is good, comparing to something we the carebears and the not hardcore understand it would be like boasting WoW back in Vanilla because kelthuzad is awesome in naxxramas, when only really a handfull of people out of the 6 or so million subs it had ever experienced it.
The same applies to boats in DF they are so expensive and require an alliance of efforts to build, yet everyone seems to be boasting about it, like there are thousands of ppl navigating in boats in DFO, its a feature 90% of the population will not experience. (see as im not even poiting out several flaws in the system that have been well documented over youtube this is in a best case scenario for the average joe the only feature is roaming around ganking ppl).

I would say that its very safe to say that 100% of the DF community agrees that player owned cities need to have some changes made.
What we are saying however, in comparision to Mo is that MO doesnt have and RTS functionality at all with zero plans on having any in the future.
So, for me, I am sticking with the game that at min. has it. with hopes that they improve that aspect of the game INSTEAD of playing a game that doesnt have it whatsoever and with no plans to ever have it.
Does that make more sense?
(p.s. even though the RTS features of DF need major improvements the fact that it has an RTS feature is the number 1 reason I got attracted to the game in the first place. Now as it turns out there is plenty of other things to capture my attention in addition to it and its no longer my number 1 intrest but it is however a MAJOR part of this game in the future)

If they still insist on releasing a 1rst person only view game it will never be huge. Quite a lot of players want to have a good look at their e peen when they play.
Personally? I cant stand 3rd person view. I am ok with a game not being huge as long as I can find something that is MMO and is NOT 3rd person view.
This all said, I find it intresting how MO release date has already been moved back and they removed the player housing that they promised. Yet people leave DF becuase of broken promises.
Thing is about all these promises, promises are for small girls. Either I like the game as it is, or I dont. for me personally, not only do I like DF at this time I dont see any other game I would rather play. That said, cartoons and 3rd person view (and dont take this personally) is an insult to me.
It isn't a broken promise until the game is released. And you are entitle to your opinion about the games you like to play.
We haven't seen how well MO is implemented yet, so there is no point in announcing that an unreleased product is going to be the downfall of any other game. Anyone who says this is missing a chromosome.

Tasos is just too ignorant of the MMO space and how he got the job was the bigges mistake of all.
ok this is really retarded. how in the world would you have any idea whatsoever that they do not have the money to buy a server.
you just completely and totally failed yourself on this stupid post stating things as facts that you have no way of knowig. Making you king troll with zero crediabity that you just lost in the crapper
Actually, I see it to be pretty possible. Prove him wrong and maybe I can see your side.
I honestly don't see how DF plans on being released in NA. Their devs seem stretched enough just maintaining one region.
PS: What eyeswideopen said.

If they had the money to buy another server they would have done it already for all those thousands of customers they sold out of accounts to, that's why.

And yes I will give MO a shot as well.

Fallen Earth = fail
Earthrise still seems interesting though.
Could you please elaborate why "Fallen Earth = Fail" ?

the fallout series and planescape torment were the best rpgs i have ever played.

Two servers planned, one soon. So as it turns out, the can afford it and will be buying one. Its also worth noting that the gradual release model that AV is currently using is nearly exactly the same one that the MO developers will be using. This gradual release was already planned long time ago.

MO insn't releasing in July. Its releasing in Q4 2009. So they will have had almost a full year of beta.
Darkfall's beta was only a few months. Also Darkfall's release was delayed by six years.
