Truth > Lie
just the way it is
No one is lying to you because you have no right to know anything about a person in real life just because they are playing a video game.
Demanding that they MUST tell you their real gender, refuse to answer the question, or be silent, is just saying you want them to give you information you can use to infer their real gender.
But no one playing a video game is obligated to give you any information you can use to determine anything about their real life.
By anwsering with a lie they gave me information that is simple retarded either way they give me something? and i have the right to ask any question i please its my right so i will go on asking what ever the heck i feel like and im sure people will go on lying my point still stands lying = bad i dont know what your mom told you but it was wrong

It's a video game.
you are confusing "lying" with playing a game.
A lie means I am attempting to deceive you.
I do not think anyone I'm chatting with in an MMORPG is naive enough to think I'd divulge any real life information to them, and I dont think they are divulging any real life information to me.
Therefore, there is no intent to decieve.
I'm 60, 12, fat, thin, a guy, a girl, live in Canada, the US. I don't expect you to believe me, because we're playing a game. I don't believe anything you say, because we're playing a game.
Therefore, you cannot lie to me, because you cannot deceive me.
not to bring religion because you may not believe and that is fine but yet again i grew up taught a lie is a lie no matter how it is told... its still just a lie
also with a stupid anwser like that i can assume your male.... there you go you gave me info that lead me to your gender its the end of the world!

It cannot be a "lie" unless there is an intention to deceive.
It's a video game.
No one is trying to deceive you, because they are playing a game.
You only think they are trying to deceive you, because while they are playing a game, you are thinking it's real life.
It's not real life. It's a video game.
And we both know you're a guy pretending to be a girl. Prove I'm wrong.
How do you wish me to prove you wrong? I dont give my number to liars =]
And you are playing with real people and when the question is ment to be aimed at your RL gender then it becomes a lie... I'm real your real.... there for it becomes a lie..
How do you wish me to prove you wrong? I dont give my number to liars =] And you are playing with real people and when the question is ment to be aimed at your RL gender then it becomes a lie... I'm real your real.... there for it becomes a lie..
I feel sorry for people like you, people that can't realize the line between a VIDEO GAME and REAL LIFE.
lol feel sorry for me? I got a RL boyfriend RL friends and i play games with them... I play mmos to not feel so bored it fun to txt someone half way across the world or go see them because you like them that much You people limit yourselfs behind the computer because you make complete asses out of yourself that no-1 would ever realy want to know you... probly why you hop from game to game bitching about each one... because you never took the time to make real friends in the game.. Just because its a game doesent mean you cant make friends...
It is not lying, it is roleplaying. It would be like watching a movie and saying all the characters are lying because they are not really them, but actors.
Basically, in a game, especially a mmorpg, you're an actor, playing a role. It is pretend, it is fun, it is for entertainment, not a purposeful harmful intent to deceive.
By anwsering with a lie they gave me information that is simple retarded either way they give me something? and i have the right to ask any question i please its my right so i will go on asking what ever the heck i feel like and im sure people will go on lying my point still stands lying = bad i dont know what your mom told you but it was wrong
I'm calling this one right now, you're a guy pretending to be a girl who was lied to by another guy pretending to be a girl who got embroiled in a seemingly lesbian romance only to find out that the other person was, indeed, a dude. Now bitter toward the practice of (other) guys pretending to be girls over the internet, you crusade against them via MMO forums.
But for your need to go out of your way to prove that you're a girl in RL, I might not have come to this startling conclusion.
In all seriousness if your head didn't explode after reading that last bit, read on...
For all your high and mighty adherence to the code of not lying, you still come off as somewhat less than wholesome because your parents apparently never taught you to look at a situation from others' points of view, not to judge, or that saying things like "retarded" is closed-minded and insensitive, or as you so eloquently put it, =bad. One day I hope you'll realize that not everything can be coded to black/white right/wrong.
I'm really not sure why I'm responding to this, your need for the approval of people you've never met baffles me, as does your odd quest for the "truth."
Really, the truth isn't what you're after, though. You just don't want your guildies to perceive you as a liar. Thus, I have your solution. The next time someone asks if you're a girl in RL say, "No, I'm a man." They will believe you, and not think you a liar.
But then, you'll miss out on all that special treatment, and that's what this is really about anyway. But you can't admit that, because then you won't be able to protest it while at the same time claiming the moral high ground.

I believe that cdude93 is correct, but just in case you are sincere about your morale dedication:
People have a right to lie about their gender just as much as you have a right to ask them about it.
It is your choice to be honest. Even if there actually were some way to force such honesty from the masses, would you not rather make the decision for yourself? How else would you judge the individual if he/she isn't given the choice to make the right decisions. It's much better knowing that you choose to be a good person and do what you consider to be right, rather than trying to force your ideals on others.
You are insecure. Why do you care if they don't believe you? What does it matter? If they don't believe you, that's their problem. Unless you are expecting special treatment because you are female, it should not matter.
Video games are real, the connections that we build are real
I am usually very respectful of people's privacy, and don't ask personal questions, but how old are you?
I may need to tell you something about Santa Claus, but it's close to Xmas and I'm not sure if you are ready for this or not...
I'm not the one hiding my age on my profile. If you ask me what my age is and I tell you anything but what I am, that is a lie. If I tell someone I am anything but a male in an mmo, unless I am rping and prefer to stay in character, that is a lie.
If you do not feel comfortable giving real life information out that is what you say because that is being honest. Maybe this is why I have friends all over the USA that I have gamed with for years. We met online and stuck together and even had a cup of coffee when one of us is passing through the area the other resides.
....I did catch you being a hypocrite and yo ur points are invalid because of it. Just hope the rest of the readers saw it as well.
It bothers me im viewed as a liar because they lie special treatment has nothing 2 do with it... What exact special treatment am i going to get? No-1 has ever givin me gold or items i havent ever got loot because i am female and just because some girl has stolen your epic doesent mean we are all out to do it... I just dont want someone to think of me as somthing im not...
I think this is a very interesting topic and I can see points from both sides of the argument.
Someone said, it isnt lying, when you "pretend" to be another gender than your RL gender in a computer game, because it is a game. Even if you're asked straight up; are you a girl/ are you a boy - by those you game with.
Someone said; Lying is lying, nomatter the circumstances, no matter the environment.
I think that stipulating that being in a virtual environment, playing a game, removes the usual "morals" of social interaction from the equation is a bit of long shot. While you might argue lying about your gender, isnt lying because its a game and not a "real" social interaction, you could also argue that games give real social responses in the people behind the toons.
Fx; If you are fine with lying about your gender when asked, because your reasoning dictates its reasonable to pretend whatever you wish in this settting, where do you draw the line? If I may ask; Do you also think "stealing" or scamming another gamer in this virtual/gaming world is acceptable, because you arent really stealing, as if you were lifting things out of a persons bag in the mall? Im not saying I disagree with you, but when I read the posts you made, it got me wondering just where you feel, if at all, that the morals for right and wrong, that you might employ in real social interaction, also apply to your gaming?
Most of us, can agree - not all of us - that being the victim of scamming or, game exploiters in general, is an upsetting or atleast annoying experience. So ofcourse from that we could deduct, that there is in fact areas where Real Life morals and Real Life responses to social experiences also occur in game. - Why is lying excempt from this in your opinion? Have you considered this at all.
Another way to look at is, that some people when they play a game, wish to be allowed the freedom from their real life and themselves even, and fully emerge themselves in an alter ego in a virtual setting. And while you might feel entitled to truthfull and honest answers about their real life personas, they might not feel inclined to give that to you, as it would ruin their purpose for playing online mmo's/games. If you look at it in this light, you can see that if you armed yourself with the expectation that not everyone is going to be what they appear at face value, you can avoid unrealistic expectations and try to avoid being dissapointed when the social interactions may not be as solid as you had hoped for.
On the other hand, you could argue, that just because you're playing an online game, it is no reason to let go of what makes you you or to hold yourself to certain standards regarding who you'd like to be. What I mean is really mostly applied to people who spend 20+ hours a week playing computer games online. I ask that you consider for yourself, if the time you invest in this activity is any less real than the time that ticks away and ages you while you do other things.
Do you really believe that you have a carte blanc, and that nothing you do during this time spent on gaming counts toward saying anything about who you are as a person? An extreme example, made for emphasis, is the straight up guy who holds a job and functions normal in every day situations, but who spends 4-5 hours every evening raging on shooter games, pissing people off with a foul mouth and vulgar language, maybe even ruining other peoples fun to maintain his outlet of anger for whatever reason.
Is he a good guy? Would you think the same of him irl, if you were a fly on the wall and knew that about him? Do you think anyone would disregard it when drawing their conclusions about him, if they were privy to the information. - And so I ask you, since he knows, who he is, all the time. Is that why he choses to believe gaming is just gaming. It isnt real, it shouldnt count?
My personal opinion is that anonymity, while alluring is usually way out of the average persons league, because most people are unable to hold themselves accountable for their actions when they feel there wont be repercussions for anything done or said. Those of you who can hold a bar higher than a rabid badger even when you are anon, have to keep doing that even when all around you others fail to do this simple thing. Its not about reacting to others, but about chosing your own actions, all of the time.
Why do you care if someone thinks you are a liar if you know you aren't? Again, you feel the need to prove something over the internet that you CAN'T prove. Here is a tip from a female older than you. Guys ONLY care if you are female if they are looking to flirt/date/mess around with you. If you are not looking for the same, then it should not matter to you. I have a feeling that learning the hard way is probably the only way that will sink in though. *shrug*
I think a lot of MMO gamers try really hard to make this a "topic to watch". But I see it as boring and frivolous at best.
I have been gaming forever and have seen the rise of the He-man/She-gamer trend. I'm not impressed or otherwise moved. If you are a guy playing a girl....I raise my brow at you. Just something askew to me.
Having said that, I really have no real problem save that the masses STOP MAKING A BIG DEAL ABOUT IT!!!
Seriously...stop. You want to wear pantyhose in an MMO....go for it dude. Jut stop telling ME it's OK!!
"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to. Relax....."
Ah, now I understand your motivation -- you're insecure. You care too much about what others think of you, especially those you meet in a video game. If someone doesn't believe you when you tell them that you're female then it's their problem; you know the truth. So why does it bother you so much?
You're going to have to get over it because the world isn't going to change at your convenience.
