Yup sure does. Two reasons why I subbed.

I'd love to see some concrete numbers proving otherwise, but for some strange reason Aventurine doesn't seem to be very vocal about the so-called success of there game anywhere but on there own forums.

    I wonder why that is...

Well last week I was involved in 100+ player battles every night.  One battle was 200+.  I had to get away from that area so I could level up my newly created character.  Their are reports of action like this all over the NA-1 server.  So from first hand experience the population is nice.

    Wrong.

Oops, my bad on the typo.

Darkfall has changed a lot and for the better.  It is currently much better to level up on mobs.  Sounds like you are stuck in the past.

Honestly I think some of the people around here have their heads stuck in the sand sometimes.

Sure I know I'm not among the majority when it comes to my taste in games. But you need to realize that the majority of those 400 games are quite petite in population. So it is kind of sad. It's like having hundreds of TV channels and only ever watching a handful.

I understand that most people like games such as Aion and WOW. Unfortunately for me I do not. Quite honestly have you spoken to any WOW players (IRL) about mmos? With the exception of one guy that me and some friends convinced to play EVE, none of the many I have met  had even heard about any other mmo. A lot didn't even care to discuss the topic.

I'm not as sure as you are that the kind of games that I enjoy could not become more popular in the future. Perhaps when WOW winds down we'll have more people shopping around on sites like this. Who's to say they may not have realized just how many choices there are when it comes to mmos.

Ok if you want to play sub numbers ffa pvp as a subclass simply exist at the margin.  EvE is the only one with any sizable population, at 400k or whatever.  That pales in comparison to the bigger PvE titles.

Of course the crap PvE games have a few thouand playing, same for DF.  That is also a fact.  Whatever that means?  You figure it out.

On the other hand, you do not need to play a game with a million sub.  So long as you enjoy it, you play whatever you want.

No worries about the typo, it happens.

As for DF, you just glossed over anything I asked and went straight into a pre-programmed response about how I am stuck in the past. Instead of just talking in the hopes that people listen, why don't you provide some proof to backup these claims about the game being so much better now than it was previously?

I still think a free trial would be the best option to achieve this. If the game is really doing as well as the fans seem to say it is these days, then there is no real reason not to allow it.

If AV is worried about trolls and griefers using the accounts to annoy people, then just make the accounts only available for a certain limited time (a two week period for trials, where people can try the game for 7 days, unrestricted). If someone misses out during those two weeks then it is nobodies fault but there own for neglecting the opportunity.

    Actions speak louder than words.

A trial is impossible in a FFA full loot game.  Games that have a trial that are not full loot restrict trade.  In darkfall you can kill and take everything.  So you I can make 50 accounts and send them out harvesting and kill them all and take all of the resources.  See the problem?

In my next post I will clearly tell you what Darkfall has done better, if I have the time.

lmao, I'm actually picturing that in my head.

To add though, those fingers could be symbolic of WOW itself. When WOW begins to wind down (fingers being removed from ears) and people are looking for something new, I think many will be amazed at just how many options they have. There's a lot of people that are playing WOW atm that do not feel compelled to visit sites like this because they're only intersted in WOW. For the time being.

    Create a problem?

I asked a completely valid question, you respond by insulting me.

Did I say that you said it had a big population? No.

Did you insinuate that it did by claiming that 400 other games have lower pops than DF? You sure did.

Who is creating the problem? Me who was asking valid questions, about an mmo, in an mmo gaming forum of all places. Or you, who jumped all over me for no reason just because you yourself were unable to grasp the context of my post?

    Food for thought.

WOW......seems someone is putting to much sugar in their "Special Kool-Aid". I've seen better content in other sandbox or so called sandbox games than Darkfall.

    Again, the bull "themepark" topic....

People play good games. If the game is good, people will play it. Thinking that FFA full-loot PVP is a niche market is ludicrous. PVP is probably the most commonly played genre today, all types of games counted. Claiming that a game is bad because of scripted events is beyond ludicrous.

People want that inherent quality that makes us come back for more. Every six months, I have to resub to LotRO. Not because of PVP, but because the game is so beautiful and immersive. The visuals, the music (superb), the story. Eventually, I unsub again to play something else, but knowing that I'll come back for more.

There's a lot to be said about "themepark vs sandbox" (and I hate these stupid definitions). However, if the game is good, it will thrive, no matter what. You might not have the fast-food numbers of WoW, but you'll have a solid community and the company will make a profit.

What people need to understand (specially newer players) is that AV screwed up big time. It alienated itself from the majority of its former community members via a ton of bad decisions. Once your reputation gets smudged, it takes a long time to earn that lost respect back. Apparently, they learned a thing or two, but there's a lot of ground to be covered yet.

Sadly, because of that, they lost the market timing and a ton of subs. They gave the time for people to play and enjoy other games, and forget about DFO. This is a business faux pas.

I truly hope that newer players understand that this is the reason so many people have such a strong rejection for DFO. It is not just an unwarranted, irrational feeling.

"Best" MMO yet lowest number of subscribers. I dont think the bigger companies are interested in that.

I listed a bunch of points (and can list a bunch more) of why I think it is the best.  Please go through and refute them all.  Don't come in here all high and mighty when you bring nothing to the table.

I totally agree with you that Darkfall dropped the ball at launch.  It's a mistake they may never make up even with all the good stuff that has happened since then.

One of the few sensible thinkers I've seen on the boards in a while.  Yes ffa pvp players are a huge minority but what I think gamers need to realize is that does not mean anything concrete.  Don't hate on theme park players because they in fact show you the easiest router to get video game developers to spend money to produce what you want.

I stated lot's of times over if DF was what it claimed to be and that is a true sandbox game with many different features and OPTIONS I would have gladly been fodder for the masses, but this game is a shell, a huge empty world devoid of content.  While DF fans complain about themepark games I find it equally scary to think if I was the only one logged into my game there would be nothing worth doing which is what you have with DF and I don't see why anyone would demand the extreme either way.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

He simply likes the game over all the other options. Thats enough to make it the best for him. It really isn't hard to understand really.

    Lets talks about understanding......

Do you understand the difference between:

"the best for him" and "the best on the market" or

"the best on the market for him" and "the best on the market"

Hope that helps your understanding ;-)

Eve is boring and like semi full loot, actually more like 1/4th full loot. Fallen earth is carebear game, and no pvp at all that  is meaningful.

    Ryzom, never heard of it.

Well you didn't list why these games are better.

Eve I know, and it is a good game.  The space equivalent to darkfall with many years more of updates.

Mortal online currently cannot hold a candle to Darkfall.  Maybe in one or two years time assuming Darkfall does nothing to improve upon itself as well.  It is going to be a good game and a welcome edition to the genre. (I'm a beta Block A player).

Ryzom, no comment since I haven't played it.

Fallen Earth I have heard many good things about it.

  • IzureIzure Member Posts: 518

O and mortal online sucks, I was in beta, you go on screen with 4 others u lag like crazy, if you fight them you will probably DC.

    MO is a disaster.

It's your opinion that Darkfall is the best on the market, but mine says it's not. Despite what each may say, we love what we play and think what we think.
