Are you really asking to judge a community on what COULD happen?
I've heard all manners of slurs and vulgarities in many mmos and I am not going to single one game out for that as if it stands above the rest. However I have never had a single day of wow ruined as a result of the intentional actions by another player looking to cause harm to other players. There are many games I cannot make that statement about and that overshadows chuck norris jokes by leaps and bounds. Even some foul mouthed kids. Judging from the stories people here post, they make it sound like you log into wow and people jump out from the bushes to verbally attack you, ruin you day and just generally cause grief. There is never a decent player who might lend a helping hand, everyone is 12 years old and you can't hear a single thing other than people being mean to each other. I'm not saying there are not jackasses in wow, but there are jackasses in every game and I will take a few jackasses over a community as a whole that finds it acceptable to berate newbies for asking the wrong question or saying the wrong thing and telling them to GTFO of "their" mmo or go back to wow (even if they have no idea where they came from). It is astounding how many games have this sort of weeding out policy among the elder players towards newbies. It is even more amazing when those same players ask why more people don't play their game.
Im not judging anything on what might happen. I played your game for a bit over two years. I know what the community is like. You are trying to convince people that they didnt see or hear something with their own eyes and ears. WOW has the worst community of any MMO ive ever played period. Berating noobs is something ive seen a lot of in WOW by the way.
Sorry grandpa, I wasn't talking to you, but rather Iadien when he suggested that wow be judged for something that "would" happen, but isn't currently.
I admit what happens in wow, but we disagree with on it being the worst community. If anyone is trying to force their opinion it is you. At least I can support my opinion with acts that make foul language look like a trip in the park, but perhaps you just lack exposure to other mmos to have a solid base of reference.
My game "exposure " is listed on my profile. Yes we disagree but according to you im wrong in stating that WOW has the worst community of any MMO ive played. . So im wrong? Lets see the proof that ive played an MMO with a worse community than WOW. No one can tell me my statement isnt true. Im speaking from experience, my experience. Im not sure why you and Zorn feel the need to convince the world that WOW is the only game in town, then again perhaps its yourselves you are trying to convince. God forbid either of you might be wrong.
EQ was a higher quality game with a better community. WoW is all about quantity over quality, that is why MORE people play it. Just because it has the numbers doesnt make it a good game. Using this OP's logic McDonalds would have the highest quality food on Earth since they served more people than any other restaraunt chain. Too bad we know it doesnt work that way.

Explain me the analogy of the food and EQ and WOW. Because I don't get it. ))
Is Blizzard in the restaurant business or are they creating video games?
And if they create video games why aren't there other single video games that bring in 1.2 billion dollars revenu on a yearly basis
Based on people that PAY 180 dollars a year ... just to,play it.
So... explain me the 180 dollars yearly price tag just to video playing WOW and then explain me the analogy of MacDonalds ....
Seems to me WOW is Mickee Dees, EQ is Red Lobster but EVE is Del Monico's Steak House. See now? Mickeys sells more but Del Monicos is Restaurant of the Year.

Yet when you express your opinions it can somehow can prove me wrong?
It is funny how we are both discussing the same topic, but you can't be proven wrong, but people who disagree with you somehow can be proven wrong. An interesting set of rules you have there.

You seem to be trying to convince people that EQ has a worse community than WOW. I simply stated, " WOW has the worst community of any MMO ive played ". I havnt played EQ, so perhaps you are right but after seeing what I saw in WOW i am skeptical.

I realize there is a certain percentage of assholes in all games and its been said that since WOW has more players they have more assholes. So do you actually play any MMOs or ever have anything positive to say, or do you just troll and bitch on these forums? Rather petty and juvenile behavior for someone with a screenname of 'Grandpa'...

WoW players are below average, and don't belong in other MMORPGs. They belong in easy-mode games where the company literally has to hand them gear for doing ANYTHING because they suck that much.
So show me your Furious Gladiator title and I know you're right.
Truth is ... you never reached anything in WOW PvP status with that ladder system.
How come ? You "sucked" (use your own words) too much ... or perhaps (like always) blame it on the game you didn't go anywhere...
As it happens tonight I just ran into a REAL Furious Gladiator in AB and I was ... unlucky since he had a couple of friends with him on the Horde side, all Gladiators (meaning top 0.5% of the PvP competition).
Had still fun though and I took a few snapshots of the Furious Gladiator.
As you know the Furious Gladiator title is only given to the FIRST of the number one team of each PvP season in EACH Battlegroup (17 servers in this case).
So that guy (druid btw) is best of around 150.000-200.000 (PvP) players (tx to the cross server Battlegroups). In our case the Blackout EU BG.
I guess the question of who "sucks" is quite entertaining isn't it ?:)))) The above poster or the one with the ladder based title....
That's why players flock to WoW, they want to lose a lot and dont want the consequences of losing. That's why those titles are meaningless because the best of them is still from a lower quality stock of player. He may be the cream of the crop, but the crop is genetically modified and pesticide laden corn in this case. Thanks, but I think I'll take organic corn instead.

Dude, you really took a picture of a guy owning you just because he had a title? That just means you lack essential skill. Now let's pretend you played a game with penalties for dying, you would actually get penalized for your poor play and lose levels. You'd have to grind that experience back every time you come up short in battle. That's why players flock to WoW, they want to lose a lot and dont want the consequences of losing. That's why those titles are meaningless because the best of them is still from a lower quality stock of player. Ah, so mindless and simple grinding means a game has more skill? Ah I get it. Tell ya what. Everytime you die in WOW go kill 500 green mobs. Pretend it was EXP loss. A smart player can easily RP it because it would give the death some meaning and force you to play better. There are your consequences. But I just bet you would feel stupid killing a bunch of mobs when you don't have to? Why on earth would anyone mindless go kill 500 mobs just for the hell of it, right? THATs exactly what EXP loss or some pointless time based penalty is. Pointless. If choosing to inflict the penalty on yourself sounds stupid, the game forcing it upon you is JUST AS STUPID. Players flock to WOW because a game forcing you to essentially do something you would never choose to do for fun is STUPID!!! Thats why most people don't play games that kick you in the nuts=) Its STUPID to play a game that wastes your time. By the way, do you enjoy getting kicked in the nuts because playing a game that makes you do something pointless is like choosing to be kicked in the nuts;)
You do know what a ladder is? You don't GRIND the title by killing a bunch of scrubs. You have to beat better and better people to you know, CLIMB the ladder. But I forget, EVERYONE who plays WOW sucks=) You just faceroll the keyboard blindfolded and you win, hehe.
Ya know kid, WoW PvP is the embodiment of mindless and simple grinding. Instead of having real time world PvP where you compete over meaningful gear and raids you basically grind battlegrounds and arena for hand-me-down gladiator gear that is complete crap in PVE. Then ya gotta blow your arena points to stay competitive with the other arena grinders. What did you accomplish at the end of the season? A title and gear that is quickly outdated by the added item levels to next season's batch. It is a formula that is getting old. And yeah, those gladiators would cancel their accounts if they got a taste of the hard core PvP where you gotta get your corpse back against impossible odds and heavy exp losses. That means those gladiators are more like badiators in the real pvp world.

[Mod Edit]
Of course you think I am trying to do something. That is what happens when you hold certain people to a different set of standards than everyone else.
Just for some perspective, here you are just yesterday speaking on behalf of everyone who has every played wow and telling them what their conclusion is. LINK
I believe my high school science teacher said that a theory is "an educated guess". Anyone who has played WOW does not have to guess about how bad the quality of the community is. -Grandpagamer
Anyhow, you think wow has the worst community based on your experiences and apparently you think everyone who has ever played wow agrees with you.
I have seen things that make "bad" actions in mmos released after 2004 look like a trip to disney land. I really wish you could have seen the old EQVault forums and just how rabid and toxic they were. I think it would give you a whole new perspective about mmos and communities.
I am not saying wow is the best community, because I can think of many others that are better. Based on my experiences, I just don't agree that wow is anywhere close to the worst.
- Harsh death penalty (Loss of xp and/or lvl possible. Corpse recovery)
- Long epic quests (Also had normal quests like found in all other MMO's)
- Huge open world (Sure, had zones, but was a new genre in the making and once in a zone it was open. Well, some were funneled or linear, but most were open.)
- IMO, gear wasn't the driving force (For most players anyway), the adventuring and community interaction was.
- Most played on dial-up, because that is all there was in the beginning (Most of 1st year for most anyway)
WoW:
- Wasn't perfect upon release, but much more polished than any of it's predecessor's. Genre being around awhile lends to that. Learning and technology advances naturally.
- Fast leveling curve (Too fast IMO)
- Almost no death penalty (Small insignificant repair cost and rezz timer)
- Most quests are fast. (Epic quests fast too if in the right Guild)
- Large world. Semi-open....but sort of drawn along a pattern based on level/faction though.
- Gear dependent.
So what is there to make these comparable for a vs. topic again? One was one of the grandfather's of MMO's, the other had the luxury of learning from several years of pre-exisitng MMO's and had a ton of cash to throw at it. Not that SOE didn't either....but it was running blind in a brand new genre and didn't have other MMO's to learn from and build off of. What I'm trying to say is that they are from different eras of the genre. It would be like pitting Atari against PS3.
I've played both extensively. I finally sold off my SK on the Bazaar. Still play WoW though. I always had a gripe with SOE because of what they did to SWG. But EQ2 was and always will be their baby until Everquest Next and PlanetSide Next arrive. Either way both were fun. I find myself missing my SK - even wishing I could port him to WoW. That class was just so amazing if you knew how to play it. SK's got a bad rep as most had no freakin clue. Nothing like watching an SK MT the hardest raids in the game with complete ease. Or dueling and annihilating most of the classes in the game. God I loved Death March.
Currently playing: World of Warcraft, Star Trek Online, Runes of Magic...

Sure, you were never at the top. You cannot beat them 1 on 1, you cannot form a team with enough coordination to beat them, so you use words to beat them.
We hereby proclaim you perpetual winner in the ladder of assault by words. You win, hands down.
Here is the new lesson to learn: if you cannot do it, talk as if not doing it takes more skill.

my only beef with soe is they dont send copy to ebgame local mall sotre or local walmart ,zelller, sears or whatever store the chose.online only or e-store sending you a box after you use credit card is bad bad bad for my mojor.i hate it!
that my only beef against soe!that still prevent me from playing soe title tho.

I don't think the original comparison was about what features each game had, but rather how each game performed in a business sense during their first six years.
Sure they were different, but there were also advantages EQ had that Wow didn't, like zero competition in the 3d market.
As for blizzard having such a huge advantage over EQ because it learned so much from the market, perhaps that is true. Yet at the same time soe had that same exact advantage with EQ2... PLUS the advantage of far more experience making mmos and the result was EQ2 shut down almost half of its servers within a year of release.
Who knows, maybe we will be making similar comparisons in another 6 years about EQ vs Wow vs who knows what game. Personally I think the market has been ripe for another mmo to release to massive success, just like EQ did, just like wow did. Maybe there is a trend in how long a game will be dominant in the market?

Please realize that soe cannot force EBGames, Walmart, Sears or anyone else to sell their games. It is not a choice that soe gets to make. Either retailers place orders with soe based on how many boxes they think they will sell or they do not order anything from soe, because they do not think it will sell enough copies.
Not that EBGames or Walmart are big software sellers in the first place. For the most part they only try to carry items that will be popular and/or sell quickly.

The simple fact that you won and you won by playing better than the next guy is all that matters. Its no different from a Superbowl trophy. Next year someone else wins. But that doesn't discount that the Steelers won last year. Does it diminish the win because someone else wins again? Its utter proof they were THE BEST that season just like winning a season in WOW. After I quit, I really didn't care about my meaningless accomplishments anyway, because its a videogame. No one really cares. But its fun when you're doing it. You think taking a keep in DAOC or blowing up a spaceship in Eve has more meaning? Its all just for fun. If you're still reminiscing about your grand accomplishments in DAOC, Eve or EQ years after you've done them...Oh BOY=)
Like it was said above, please don't claim how easy something is if you can't prove you can do it too. Thats the wonder of the WOW armory for example. It shows EVERYONE who's a fraud, hehe. You can't fake being good and nobody really cares if you claim everyone sucks. If you can't prove it, time to zip it=)

If you can't prove it, time to zip it=)
WoW armory shows time wasted. That's pretty much it.
What a stupid post You're comparing a game that IS A MMORPG vs a game that ISNT AN MMORPG
WoW is just a game where it is all instanced, and they hand out a bunch of welfare epics to newbies who suck at normal MMORPGs.
Know when players go to WoW? When an NPC kills them, or maybe a player kills them once. So they go to an easy-mode MMORPG indefinitely. WoW has no penalties for dying in PVE, dying in PVP. It hands out epics all the time, it gives everyone a copy of their own instance. It isn't an MMORPG. Want to play in the Burger King ball pit? Play some WoW Maybe a Night Elf Mohawk grenade too.
WoW is just an instanced game for dumb players who couldn't handle EQ. They needed content they could never wipe on, and a meaningless instanced PVP environment because they couldn't handle World PVP. I don't know what else to say. It's popular because it's dumbed down and easy and there are a lot of giveaways. If that isn't obvious you haven't played WoW obviously
Have you played WoW? If so could you link the armory for one of your toons? I'd like to see your arena rating.
Lol Arena rating... "I want to know if you leveled up a toon and change it each season so you have the FOTM and win by default." Maybe it has changed since I quit that silly game.
He may be the cream of the crop, but the crop is genetically modified and pesticide laden corn in this case. Thanks, but I think I'll take organic corn instead.

So playing WOW is just wasting time then? Thats OK. Everyone's opinion is different. Now please tell us which MMO is NOT about wasting time, then explain why your time spent playing that MMO is more important or meaningful than someone elses? Then we have have some perspective;)
Using restaurants as a comparison, WOW is McDonalds. Its the fast and easy of MMO's. It provides a quick fill to people and its why many people play it. However, there are many people out there who want more then a quick fill...if you want steak you cant get it at McDonalds and if you want something better or meaningful out of an MMO WOW doesnt give you that...they intentionally designed it not to. I still remember things I got and did in EQ which I played pre-Kunark and for 5 years, WOW for 4 years. Gear I got in EQ1 I EARNED it and because I earned it I appreciate it more, most of what WOW offers are practically handouts with no real appreciation for them. EQ1 was like a memorable steak, WOW is a burger at a drive up window

These comparisons always amuse me to no effect. People take their prejudices and then make up an analogy to fit it and then think they are very witty in their insults.
Let me give it a try:
EQ is like that 'memorable' Indian food I once had in the restaurant. It tasted 'different', had too many spices to hide the fact that it was actually pretty bland and it was very 'meaningfull' since it made me sick for a couple days.
WoW players are below average, and don't belong in other MMORPGs. They belong in easy-mode games where the company literally has to hand them gear for doing ANYTHING because they suck that much.

I didn't mean it in a negative way. I disagree with what you said about how the WoW armory proves or disproves someones skill. I thought spending countless hours grinding away in a game didn't define the difficulty? Apparently that argument is for EQ alone. haha

You speak from your experiences and no one can tell you that you are wrong. (I am not sure I have said that you are wrong [link please], but feel free to keep putting words in my mouth.).
Yet when you express your opinions it can somehow can prove me wrong?
It is funny how we are both discussing the same topic, but you can't be proven wrong, but people who disagree with you somehow can be proven wrong. An interesting set of rules you have there.

So do you actually play any MMOs or ever have anything positive to say, or do you just troll and bitch on these forums? Rather petty and juvenile behavior for someone with a screenname of 'Grandpa'...
SOE haters have no opinion that matters.

EQ:
- One of the first 3D MMORPG's.
- Long leveling curve
Played: If it was released I played it...
So show me your Furious Gladiator title and I know you're right.

He may be the cream of the crop, but the crop is genetically modified and pesticide laden corn in this case. Thanks, but I think I'll take organic corn instead.

WoW armory shows time wasted. That's pretty much it.
Have you played WoW? If so could you link the armory for one of your toons? I'd like to see your arena rating.
Lol Arena rating... "I want to know if you leveled up a toon and change it each season so you have the FOTM and win by default." Maybe it has changed since I quit that silly game.

WoW armory shows time wasted. That's pretty much it.
So show me your Furious Gladiator title and I know you're right.

If you enjoyed wasting time, that time was not wasted
I didn't mean it in a negative way. I disagree with what you said about how the WoW armory proves or disproves someones skill. I thought spending countless hours grinding away in a game didn't define the difficulty? Apparently that argument is for EQ alone. haha
