Wow an interesting day indeed. This for me is a WTF moment and for the first actual time I am concerned. I think I will take a few days off and see if they can build a new AI and get something together. This is becoming a sham more and more everyday.
Yeah reading through this thread(among others) is bringing back memories of Realms of Torment/Mourning. Devs lashing out at players, deleting posts, game not shipping with players having paid for it, and so on.
They aren't quite there yet, but if they keep heading down this path it could turn that way real quickly.
Keep in mind it is rather dated, and most of the links no longer work, but the gist of the scam that was Realms of Torment/Mourning is very telling. I see a lot of similar things happening with MO.
no you dont. Mo isnt hiding anything. there working there asses off trying to get it ready. they have most of the content promise in. just some bugs and polish needs to be worked on after this lag/ai issue is fixed

Then why haven't they updated their customers on the LE boxes being shipped? 2 weeks and nothing, that sounds like they are hiding something.

Hmm.....I don't see "Devs lashing out at players, deleting (critical)posts, game not shipping with players having paid for it, and so on"?
I'm pretty sure I have and if you note I said they aren't there yet but may get there if they continue down this path. The path of no official updates for long periods on major issues(i.e. the patcher, lag. AI needing redone)except IRC chatter, LE box copies for those that paid for them and have yet to receive them, devs lashing out at players, and so on.
Us players of RoT didn't think they were hiding anything until it was almost too late either. I'm not saying MO is RoT currently, but many things I am seeing remind me of that situation, and if that situation continues I could see things turning out similarly, although it's hard to imagine them being nearly as bad as RoT.

Wrong, but i'm not wasting my breath trying to convince you of something you choose not to see.
There was alot more to this post... but after writing it I decided it would be for my eyes only.
Star Vault doesn't need customers like that... I don't want fellow players like that. It's time to use the axe and cull the herd because Open Beta isn't a time for players to see how the game is doing... it is a time to start cutting out individuals that don't need to be in the game. Individuals who don't agree with the plans SV has or the way they operate, like t
I wholly approve.
I fully expect to see a crescendo of raving, trolling, and an increase in the gnashing of teeth till release... even a bit after.
It's happened before.
I think we can all agree that this "discussion" has outlived it's purpose by now.
Food for thought:
If using a 3rd party license makes you a "modder", I guess Aion is a pretty decent Crysis mod.

Does not matter what you think the open beta is, they said that it was "one of their most important marketing activities". Re-read the press release they released, I will even add a picture
but then you say that the open beta should remove all of the people it can as you don't want those type of individuals to play the game. It isn't a time for the players to see how the game is doing... yet it is going to get released in a few weeks, thats the reason for the open beta.
What you just said does not make any sense to me. Your way of thinking would end up bankrupting the company and would make the game fail as that would lose a lot of money from potential customers.
Open Beta isn't a time for players to see how the game is doing... it is a time to start cutting out individuals that don't need to be in the game.
Wow... that's all I can say... wow.. that's... a unique point of view.
Yea, I am unsure what he is stating there. He wants the game to survive but people that are not blinded by the hope/potential will end up leaving due to it. Sounds like he does not care if SV goes bankrupt and fails as if the people playing the open beta are not hardcore enough to play with bugs they dont need to play the game. I can't believe he said that right after the AI was disabled as its broken. But to each is own.

Oh, that explains it then. SV doesnt really want (nor need) customers and thus are such in a position where they are blatantly trying to run/scare off the masses.
If thats the case SV is doing a wonderful job, all is well and you have nothing to worry about.
If using a 3rd party license makes you a "modder", I guess Aion is a pretty decent Farcry 1 mod.
fixed; Aion is running on the crytek 1(some say 1 or 1.5) engine which farcry 1 was made on, Crysis was made on the crytek 2 engine.
nha aion run on a moded (underclocked cryteck 2 check on cryengine website.mcsoft is advertised
that cry2 engine is so closed down its insane it look like a crytek 1 or 1.5 but it is a 2
the mod ncsoft do probably activate all crytek 2 feature that aion closed for lunch(compatibility and biggest crowd possible
since most gamer are way better gear equiped then ncsoft anticipated ,ncsoft has to up the stuff
i bet they regret to not have put it at high like they had planned lol
The Aion Dev team have said that they are not using the crytek 2 engine many times. There is no information on the crytek.com website stating that Aion is running the crytek 2 engine. As well that the Dev's have also stated that they ARE using the crytek 1.X engine which has been modded.
I don't know where you get your facts from but they are clearly wrong. If you listen to a few of the NcSoft Quarterly reports they state that they have purchased crytek 1.X engine licenses to use for their games. NO mention of crtek 2 engine licenses.
Possibly some of their newer games B&S is running the crytek 2 engine but Aion is most definitely not running on that engine.
If you're going to argue that "Oh cant you see in aion the new graphic updates" well just so you know all they did was activate HDR lighting which has given that greater effect. The reason they didn't have it on at launch (and yes developers have confirmed that they didn't have it implemented at launch) is due to the fact of the mass amount of players in a certain location such as fortress sieges. Now they have optimised the code and added in model buffers to reduce lag and strain they can implement and offer the option of HDR lighting.
....Cool. Too bad I myself am beyond jaded and couldnt bring myself to reinstall this game if the assurance of "everything works now" was stickied across their Official Forum. I really wish this game luck and will check back in a year or so (assuming MO exists in a year or so) Also, I state now that I think the dev in IRC is just wrong. Total speculation on my part (based on what I have seen) but easily validated in the next day or two when I will appologize (if I am wrong) .
Weird thing is, he rebooted the server, edited some stuff, and 2 minutes later he is yelling "LAG IS GONE!" How can he tell that fast?
If he's the stereotypical programmer type... he probably thinks everything he does is amazing and flawless. Any issues encountered will be either "unimportant" or "user error" or "not his fault"... even when it's proven that it is.
Having worked in QA for a long time, working directly with programmers, reporting issues to them, they really can (but not all fall under this category) be completely dismissive and completely deny issues in their coding, and do so in a very arrogant manner. "Something wrong with *my* code? Pfft.. Go away"
One of my favorite responses of all time from a programmer whom I'd just reported a bug to explained to me by a customer, and that I'd recreated, verified and documented:
"Well then they shouldn't do it that way. That's not my problem The program works fine".

I'll pat myself on the back, and I'll say it again for your quoting pleasure:
Star Vault doesn't need customers like that... I don't want fellow players like that. Open Beta is a time for individuals who don't agree with or like the direction the game is going to be weeded out.
Modern games might use Open Beta as an advertisement tool to attract new players... which it most certainly is capable of... but that isn't it's sole purpose. Particularly in a market with such a plethora of choices, SV and other Indie developers are not going to try to attract everyone... nor would they really want everyone.
It's easier to scoff at rather than accept the truth:
We don't want you, or need you. That your $ isn't as important as you think it is.
For you individuals who are still sticking with the "Age of WoW"... that age is ending. The customer isn't always right, nor does every customer need to be served the way they want to be served. There is the door if you don't like it.
It's up to you to figure it out... but feel free to PM me if you'd truly like a discussion.

This is the first time (OK second as you repeated yourself) I have ever heard of an Open beta as a companies chance to shed those customers that might bring it down...
..as I said before.. it's a ... unique perspective... to say the least.
I must say though that if you really think SV doesn't need every single penny and it's not as important as we think you might want to go check with them. This IS the website where people try to organize $5 donation drives to "support SV"...

Wrong, lag is still there. Look at the logs I posted. AI was not the cause but it does add to the lag.

SV really doesn't have a clue. Its the DB, um no! Its the AI, um no! Its aliens...
I win!!! LOL@U
After reading some of the chat, it looks to be in player-concentrated areas.
I have a few people around me, but for the most part I get to gather resources, craft, and hunt with a few others without lag.
Not the first game to have issues in crowded areas, nor will it be the last... and so far it's always gotten fixed.
