I've been wondering about this ever since I read MMORPG.com's article. It specifically states epic is hard at work hammering out the issue, a fix is expected by next week.

They hired staff in China to work on the Epic issues.  That was from yesterday, did not think it good enough to take screen shots of that part of the log.

Maybe you should have? Because something doesn't add up here. Either the issue is in SV's code or, it is in the epic net code. Why would people in chine be working on SV's portion of the code? It just doesn't make sense, not that most that has gone on with MO does. This just seems to be a bigger calamity than normal.

They said they hired people around the globe, said about 6 of them from china working on the game.  I am not sure if they are working with epic or if they are just programmers.

I am sorry I did not get that.  I got as much as I thought was good.

The funny part is it wouldn't be the first time Epic was accused of selling an engine with serious issues. They've been sued over it before.

I can't remember what game it was exactly, but i do remember it would have been a competitor to GOW, the company named in the suit claimed they purposefully sold them a faulty engine. Forcing them to create their own. I never read up on how it turned out in court.

I remember hearing about that, I think I even saw a video of their prototype.  Not sure what happened to that though.

This makes perfect sense to me. SV is paying for the Unreal graphics engine from Epic AND paying for the Atlas MMO addon for the unreal engine from Epic China.

SV should have just said "yeah the atlas addon that runs the networking part of our game comes from epic china ... and they are the ones working on the resolution and we have limited control over the quality of the product that we are paying for from them"

    Education for the win.

Well I'm not saying it is the case here, as obviously there's no proof of that. If there was, we know damn well SV would be all over it. Still it does raise a few questions about where the issue truly lies, for me anyway.

Another thing, if they think the desync issue is their only major problem, I have to wonder if they have played their own game.

But when the dust settles, who's fault is it?  Epic for licensing them an engine that was designed for small FPS maps, or Starvault for not coding correctly so they can use it for an MMO?

Of course when you have an educated idea of whats going on, it does make sense, as I had no clue what to think because all I had to go on was a snippet from an article on this site.

The problem I was having was only compounded by posters saying one thing and then another. The confusion lies in whether the problem is within the atlas code or whether it is in SV's code. What you're saying is it is in Atlas's code, correct? You can prove this as well or, are you guessing?

I certainly can't prove anything. But check out the link for the included features for the Atlas addon --> http://www.epicgameschina.com/tech/tech-atlas_overview.html

I would consider any feature listed there that is not working up to par on MO as a problem with Atlas code. Sure, SV could have mangled something but I think it's more likely the fault lies with Epic China considering the product hasn't been out that long and I can't find information on any other game that has used it successfully.

When it comes down to it SV is a team of average programmers and good modders. They are purchasing the technical stuff from Epic. If something is broken with the code they are getting then Epic is accountable to SV. SV on the other hand is accountable to the consumer. We can blame whoever we want but no one should think ill of SV for expecting and working with Epic and Epic China to help resolve issues.
