While the mechanics of SW:ToR may feel like most other MMO's, the mob AI will be on the next level and make PvE combat feel a lot more alive then in current MMO's.
Got any evidence for that claim?

Okay - now there is an argument against EVERY possible future innovation in the genre. Grats on being happy with the status quo.
and implementing it to make you happy isn't really on the agenda. Its gotten to the point where most of your posts just go out of the way to bring down the profile of every game imaginable. It would really bum be out if I took you seriously, but most of the time you are way off base as far as supposed features that I can chalk it up to misinformation.
How about sticking to the topic - rather than making personal attacks? This is a thread asking what people think of the combat system. Feel free to say why you like it, but don't attack those who want something better.
Thats not a personal attack, and it shouldn't be taken as such. Your comments relate directly to the MMO not having what you want, my comments relate directly to the MMO not being focused directly at you. You often times rashly generalize by saying things like a "solo" campaign will be harmful to an MMORPG, which is conjecture, and your opinion about their misguided resources in Voice Acting, which is a big part of what a BioWare game is.
Its not a personal attack at all, I'm not attacking you, I'm calling you out, theres a difference. If you want limb loss and decapitation, maybe a fighting game like Mortal Kombat, or God of War will better appeal to you. They're trying to reach a wide market, that would include children. Loss of limbs and 2 shot combat won't bode well in that department.
"Its gotten to the point where most of your posts just go out of the way to bring down the profile of every game imaginable. It would really bum be out if I took you seriously,"
THAT is a personal and off-topic attack. Regardless of what you call it.

No, really? Conjecture in an MMORPG thread?
and your opinion about their misguided resources in Voice Acting, which is a big part of what a BioWare game is.
Inappropriate for an MMO - which BioWare has never made before.
Its not a personal attack at all, I'm not attacking you, I'm calling you out, theres a difference.
You went off-topic to criticize me personally, rather than addressing the points I made.
If you want limb loss and decapitation, maybe a fighting game like Mortal Kombat, or God of War will better appeal to you. They're trying to reach a wide market, that would include children.
Not my issue. I am not obliged to give a pass to design choices made to appeal to a larger market. I am here to give my opinion as a gamer, not as a member of the marketing department.
If you're saying this will be a children's game - I'd call that a harsher criticism than you have accused me of.
Loss of limbs and 2 shot combat won't bode well in that department.
Yet there is plenty of that in the movies.
We saw what happened to STO when it was designed for mass appeal, rather than appealing to the IP's fan base.

I'm not going to play the funny color text game with you. Heres a few bullet points:
1) Personal attacks: Your name is MMO Doubter, you post negative posts, I don't take them seriously. This isn't an attack, this is the truth. If you write something negative and I say that your posts are negative specifically to bring down a games profile, that isn't an attack... thats an observation. Whether it be true or not, it would be more of an observational opinion then an attack.
2) Voice acting inappropriate for an MMO: This is an opinion. If it isn't an opinion, prove it.
3) I addressed the points you made specifically, your point of opinion, albeit negative based on your assumptions.
4) This game is being created to appeal to a wide audience. That audience will consist of players under the age of 18. Fantasy violence falls under this category. Blood and Gore due to decapitations do not. Loss of limbs and 2 hit combat will not be finding its way into this game. You have every right to dislike it, but complaining about it won't change it. The only person who's fun you'll be taking away from is your own if you decide to play the game. What are the chances of that happening?
That's what SWG combat was like and I HATED it. I'd be hunting a jedi, I have the target which is standing still in my sights, I do sniper shot and somehow I miss. Then naturally he's on me in a second and I'm dead within a few seconds. One of many reasons why people switched to jedi in that game. No thank you.
It sounds like that game had some serious balance issues. Why did you miss? How was he on you in a second? How imbalanced would it be if you had automatic success every time you did a sniper shot?
A true sniper doesn't miss on the first shot. I don't know if you've ever shot a weapon before or done any research on snipers, but a sniper with any ability at all doesn't miss on the first shot. If he missed on the first shot repeatedly he wouldn't be in the profession and no one would hire him.A person lying prone on the ground with a sniper's scope isn't going to miss. Period. Since you're so hung up on realism I thought you would be on my side at least for that part.
Just because that game didn't get it right, doesn't mean the concept is flawed.
Show me a game where it is. Until you do that, I'll stick with my own experience over your theory.
Having to hit someone five or six times with a light sabre or blaster won't FEEL like Star Wars - just like STO's ground combat doesn't FEEL like Trek.

As I said - I make my judgments as a gamer - not as a marketing executive. As a gamer - I have no concern at all regarding maximizing profits. I only care about how fun the game will be.
If I play a Star Wars game, I want it to feel like Star Wars. Having to hit an enemy 1/2 a dozen times to drop them will NOT feel like Star Wars.
The movies had one-hit kills (just ask Qui-Gon), and limbs being cut off, AND at least one decapitation (Jango Fett). I do not believe any of the films had an adult or NC-17 rating. They are widely considered to be children's films, in fact.
As for whether my complaints will change anything - that's irrelevant. This is a thread on a gaming site forum. Be content to allow others to express opinions you do not share.

How many of them require five or six shots to kill someone? That's the way it will be in the game - which what I am complaining about.
As for missing a Jedi - perhaps they something akin to Spider-man's spider senses allowing them to dodge attacks for a distance. That would be borne out by some of the blaster deflections they have shown in the movies.
You apparently want to one-hit Jedi from a great distance, because you didn't address my question about how balanced that would be. Or my other questions for that matter.

I'm fine with you expressing opinions, when you express them as such, not when you portray them as fact.
As for the quality of fun,, this it to be determined as I haven't played the game. Even on the most star wars-esque games (The battlefront series) it could take a few hits to be killed by a jedi, but still, not decapitation, no loss of limbs, not that it even mattered. That didn't decrease the fun factor of the game... and not having these features will not decrease the fun either.

Unless I state something as a fact - consider it to be an opinion.

Conjecture? I suppose the question would be, does gore and loss of limb add anything to the core mechanics? If the gameplay would work the same either way, then it would be aesthetic.
Looks like any other MMO, except not as pretty as MMOs from 2002 somehow.
You don't like the art style. The textures, all around detail looks to be on par with modern games/mmos. Darth Hater even said something about the plating of a droid reflecting. Small things mater, look past the art style and pay attention to detail.
Conjecture? I suppose the question would be, does gore and loss of limb add anything to the core mechanics? If the gameplay would work the same either way, then it would be aesthetic.
My interest is in recreating action from the films. Not once was a hit with a light sabre a trivial matter. NO ONE required 1/2 dozen blaster hits to be dropped. Even large monsters were easily killed by blasters or light sabres.
As said earlier - trivial hits could instead be shown as near misses. Lord knows - that happened all the time when storm troopers were firing at the main characters.
This matter was discussed on this site WRT to STO's ground combat prior to release, and a very clever poster here suggested a kind of 'luck' meter which was depleted by near-misses (sort of like HP) and regenerated by hiding in cover. A similar system with adjustments for three 'levels' of characters - NPC/mobs, Bosses, and player-characters would work quite well at representing the movie action. NPC/mobs would be fodder for player characters, while bosses would be much 'luckier', and players would be the 'luckiest' of all.

Snipers miss. It happens. A lot. Not sure where you got your facts from, but it sounds like a "Hollywood" statement. If your research is based on Hollywood gimmicks, then good on you. But a number of factors play into sniping, and it's situational status.
Now, if we're going into the semantics of sniping, snipers have spotters. A "true" sniper, without his spotter, is pretty useless. Moreso, a sniper trying to drop a moving target - especially an unpredictable target (which is more likely) - becomes a liability to the integrity of a mission when his cover is blown. Logically, that target is already on alert that the sniper is somewhere out in the cover. Logically, the sniper would want to try and relocate to a better vantage point, once that cover is blown. Depending on the situation (i.e. weather, amount of targets, sniper's location and breathing discipline), the average sniper grosses about 3/5 single-fatals in today's desert warfare regiment. And that number has climbed some.
Now, that isn't to say that there aren't those snipers that aren't bad asses who could nail a pumpkin from almost a mile away, but they are pretty rare. And yet, even they don't hold a perfect record. Now, with all of that said, I think that if there's a "sniper shot" for the Imperial Agent - in holding true to the heroism that BW admits to portraying in all classes, that it should be a 100% advantage as long as the IA goes unnoticed by the intended target. This is, after all, a game. Hollywood it up!

Just for future reference, I'm not into hollywood and I don't watch much of what tries to pass itself of as entertainment. Just so you know. My experience comes from actually firing one and knowing people who actually did it. If you're a true sniper who is hired to snipe someone or is sent by the government to do so you aren't one that is known for missing often. You're lying prone somewhere at least a couple hundred yards away. No one knows you're there and you have got your target standing still. Unless you have poor breathing and a shaky hand you're going to the hit the body somewhere. That is the scenario I'm talking about, not some battlefield where bullets are flying at you .
A true sniper doesn't miss on the first shot. I don't know if you've ever shot a weapon before or done any research on snipers, but a sniper with any ability at all doesn't miss on the first shot. I'm not going past the second line because at this point all I can say is not only do you need to move on from MMOs but out of gaming completely if you think that you should be able to kill a player with one shot. It ain't going to happen. Even hardcore players will find fault with a game where they get killed before they even have a chance to shoot back.
OP, heres the thing. I like the combat, and I liked the combat feel of Aion too, so who buys a game just for combat alone, I dont know. But substance and breadth and depth of mmorpg game-play is key.
Listen, I'll be buying, but without substance and breadth and depth of multi-player-involved game-play that should be prevalent for a mmorpg, sustainment is lost.
We wont know it until we try it, but a concern is the admittance of the single-player feel and design tilt of the game from almost every report I see and hear.
I'm not playing Fallen Earth because it is a pve-haevy and quest-centric single-player game that wants me to spend $15/month for the sake of a mmorpg label.
