How could they NOT have marriage in the game?  Seriously.... It's worth it just for the marriage buff.  (+10% AGGRO/ - 50% INT)  All you have to do to get it is type /permadeath enabled

GMs should host a variety of events. If they're given the tools (Like I have seen in games.) then being equal with them would probably be a given.

I'm glad most people aren't taking this thread seriously. I'm gay and don't want there to be gay marriage. I mean I play to escape and fight baddies and save the world... not be bogged down by getting married and moving in together and all that RL nonsense.

I wish to some day marry my one true love but I cannot because of where I live. So, I want to escape the public backlash by maybe marrying my love in a game that I also love. You see, it is as much as an escape from reality for you to watch nearly naked women in most games as it is for me to enjoy spending time with my loved one through marriage online.

You talk about it being a "political statement" if they don't allow gay marriages ingame. No, it isn't. At least not on the developers part. But I'm sure a player like yourself would turn it into one.

It's a fucking game. Period. Noone is not going to play simply because they don't allow two male or two female avatars to marry. Unless, of course, that person is so anal retentive ( no pun intended ) that something so stupid bothers them.

They will either tackle one or two ways simply to get rid of the conflict:  Not have it at all.  Or just have anyone get married.  As said, does it really matter?  If it is part of the story, fine.  If you want to include it for RP reasons, fine.  It doesn't become a hot button issue until someone makes it thus. 

Just do away with it.  Marriage is an archaic and rather peculiar ritual anyway.  My idea?  Let people work for it.  If people had to complete a series of intense quests (2 person 40 hr raid) together in real life before you were able to get married, you'd probably see fewer broken families.

To the OP, if you want to have a freaking gay marriage in game then have one, that does not mean that AreaNet have to have a policy in game about gay marriages. Seems like you want to make an issue out of it when you can just have it in the game without anyone stopping you.
