There's no truth in your statement, I had an uncle who was gay and never once in his life am I aware of him actually confirming it for anyone he just always hung out with men and some were obviously gay as well. I mention that because we never saw my uncle affectionate with any of his boyfriends but would have to be blind to not have known who these people were to him. The alternative is to not bring lovers anywhere around friends and family and even go as far as bringing around opposite sex friends to front. For your statement to be true people would have to not be smart enough to figure out things as simple as that and most people I know are and I'd think the same is true with those you know.
Maybe you meant as in being publicly affectionate and if that is your meaning you're wrong again I see heterosexual people with displays of public affection all day if someone happens to notice it more when gay's do it possibly it's because it bothers them more but I don't think anyone can argue that straight people don't love openly.
As far as the op I honestly don't have an opinion I've only watched GW2 casually and from what most seem to say there has been no talk of marriage in game but even if there was it's something I could care less about so I don't even care to worry about it. I'm obviously not homosexual or I guess I'd be all up in arms ready to take on the devs but it isn't my fight. If there is one good luck to them and the rest of the community.

Your argument is along the lines of saying that if you are against adults having sex with minors, then you are a pedophobe.

People can dislike homosexuals and still believe they should have equal (not preferential) rights.
It would be very easy to include only hetero marriages in a game - along the lines that such is a means to procreate. Without invitro artificial insemination, two women cannot give birth - two men are SOL.
The fact that this thread exists is more of an issue than the topic of the thread. Guess what, if there are only hetero marriages in a game and you have an issue with that - then say something about it. Otherwise, this thread has as much meaning as pondering whether a game should allow marriages between humanoids and pond scum.

I agree with everything you said.
Until we stop allowing special treatment, we will never really have equality. We are all people, and we are all different, and we are all worthy of respect and worthy of being treated well. But when you allow "black only" or "gay only" ceremonies, awards, even channels, and do not allow white and straight only things in similar veins, we will never be able to see each other as equals.
Just recently, in America, Black Panthers stood outside of a polling place with weapons and in full uniforms. They intimidated voters before they went to cast their ballots. Almost nothing happened with regards to the case. If the same thing had been reversed (white power type people), it would have been all over international news and minorities would have been in an uproar everywhere. That sort of thing should not be allowed of anyone.

*sighs* Most of these "special interest" groups that you speak of don't practice discrimination, most of these groups ahave always had white people in them and they certainly haven't gone out of their way to keep them out. I'm glad you aren't a racist or sexist or some such I'm also glad that you've dated and been around so many black people but that sure doesn't mean you understand what they go through. I get it this whole argument that I see so often when these types of issues come up being ignored sucks and I agree it does I've been there before but being hated is much worse. I mention this because people tend to want to forget many of these groups exist because of proven cases of other races being treated unfairly and taken advantage of by those in a position to do so.
Did you know there are such things as "white pride parades"? Yes I'm not sure if you meant to be funny here or maybe you just aren't American but "white pride" is a coined phrase mutually exclusive to white supremacist groups in the US and guess what? They actually have the rights you complain you don't have they have the right of assembly and to organize and to spread both there own message and even elements of yours. Where do the problems begin with them? Well far too often there obviously violent message leads to violent events that force pressure on them and this is not exclusive to white supremacist groups look at the original black panthers, far too often the message they sent helped to incite violence and they were pressured into extinction in only a few years.

If AN confirms there will be marriages in the game that have some affect on the game - there still would be no need for the thread. Because it would have as much value as asking "Will I be able to marry my sword?"
If AN states that there will be marriages that have some affect on the game, but there will only be hetero marriages - then one would have the basis to ask "Why are there not gay marriages?"
If it were a case of having a general discussion on whether there should be gay marriages in a MMORPG - then it should be in the general discussion, etc...

Well, really what you say makes sense. But if every other type of speculation is allowed to be thrown around on this board; then this should be allowed to continue until tempers start rising.
So I suggest for the people who hate gays to liven up their debate and get the thread closed if they want it shut down so badly. Or ya know better yet, don't check it's updates and let it die.

Wow, I've never been compared to rapists, murders, and the like before. I just live my life the way that makes me happy. I don't try to push my idealogy on others. Never have. My partner of 11 years and I, basically just go to work and live our lives. Just like you. I don't attend gay pride parades, or attend equal right rallies. I just want to live my life with the one I love. God made me this way, so I'd like to think I'm making him happy by being happy. To each their own.

I think we should expand the question to wether we should have the right to marry our in game avatar in real life.
It seems like having marriage in a game should be strictly a 'cosmetic' feature at best. As mentioned before, it was in SWG but had no game related mechanic, title, restriction or perk as a result. It was simply a low-key feature in the game that was more of an afterthought for roleplayers. Also as mentioned before, it was a feature that allowed same gender and inter-species to propose unity, just like opposite gender. Beyond that, the Propose Unity feature added nothing more - no surname changes or anything to evidence that it happened outside of the participants' personal experience, which is probably the most universally acceptable usage of game marriage as a whole. The more low-key it is, the less controversial treatment in-game marriage will receive. And my perspective is that the less potential controversy it generates, the less desirable a feature it becomes for the flashing-neon-sign "look at me, I'm different and special" portion of the community.
Man you should be with whoever you love. If thats who YOU want to be with then so be it. God doesn't make you do anything, just merely guidelines, and he chose what HE wanted. I'm not homosexual, but if you really love someone then so be it. When I see a gay couple, I don't say hey they sjhould be in jail with rapists. Rapists do a sexual act against another human being without their consent.
We flaunt our lives on them as well with our religion and us making fun of their parades and such. Homosexual people are just like me and you and are people too. Maybe if you would not assume such illogical things you could have a new friend or two. You can have gay friends, doesn't make you gay. I'm comfortable with my sexuality to say im straight and have some gay friends. They know I am not gay and respect that and stay away.
All this bullshit being said really shows the class of people we live with today. What happened to the "pursuit of happiness"? Do not bring others down just for the sake of it. Of course there are some gays who try to get their way of life legalized, but hey some people are fighting for abortion rights. Some people fight to be seperated from different races. Some people fight to stop war. Some people fight, just to have a fight. We all have our different reasons.
You are right djstorman. Illogical statements are fail. You compared alot of good people out there, to the assholes who are still out there actually causing harm and ruining lives. This is probably the longest I have ever taken to post something, because truthfully, I normally don't care about stuff and just post a couple sentences.
Junzo, you keep living your life. Yeah alot of people may agree. People will hate you, but that only shows you actually stood up for something. I just hope the best for everyone. People deserve happiness. They just need to find the right way to get it...

There is no sex in MMO's, therefore the concept is pretty pointless and irrevelant within an MMO environment.

This is a viewpoint that may upset you, I don't care if it upsets you.
As previously established in Point 1, people engage in relationships to procure the opportunity for sex, and sex is a major driving force (and most likely the biggest driving force) in human nature.
Back in the days of 'cavemen' and 'hunter gatherers' life was incredibly harsh, life was a daily fight for survival, by developing attachments to other members within the social group, life is made a little easier, because you are more likely to help someone you 'care' about.
Emotional attachment (also known as Love) is not gender specific, ie any man or woman can develop an emotional attachment to any other man or woman. This does not make you "gay" in of itself.
Love is a natural evolutionary development to help foster the survival of an individual within the species.
Nature is sneaky, sex feels good for a reason, by making sex feel really really nice, nature ensures that you will keep going back for more.
Sex is a natural evolutionary development to help foster the propogation of the species.
When you consider both elements highlighted in yellow, it becomes fairly obvious they are very different to each other.
A man loving another man or a woman loving another woman, is not unnatural, nature built us that way to increase our chances of surving to breeding age.
However same sex sex-acts, are unnatural, as two men (or woman) alone cannot concieve or give birth to the next generation.

If it makes all those liberals supporting gay marriage in video games feel better, call the ACLU, tell them your rights are being squashed by all the ultra-conserative game developers not allowing gay marriage and you want a class action lawsuit to force game designers to allow you to express your real life sexual preferrences/beliefs in a make believe cyber world.

- Can you create a free-sex, orgy orientated, pagan commune in LotrO when it goes F2P?
