According to the poll it looks like the majority doesn't give a rats arse if there is jumping or not. Dont really see the need for jumping myself if a game isn't designed with any platforming in mind.
The problem is that stupid ends up putting you on the block list and saying they won.
Haha, that reminds me of a quote:
Debating with a believer is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon — it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
seriously.. who cares about those lame actions anyways
Yes, let's just get rid of every fluff feature, because no one cares about them. And lets never have any water content. Why bother having a game at all, we don't need any of this stuff!
idd, lets go back to text adventure while none cares really how it looks so we can all imagine it in our little heads.
i voted no. i like the ff serie not online tho, but seriously todays world we need allmost all the available features including jumping swimming sitting so theres no room for players to wonder why i cannot do this whilst i really want to do it.
its the new generation of players we are dealing with.

It's sad.... that you and seemingly everyone else that is completely against jumping's only argument is "I don't want it like wow" when a lot of people aren't bringing up wow in the first place. Know what inspires me to like jumping? Mario.
Actually that's not my reason. If you want to know my thoughts on jumping in any game... ask me, and I'll happily tell you. Don't presume to know and put words in my mouth.
My take is, I don't care either way. If the gameplay warrants it, then fine. If the gameplay doesn't warrant it, then fine.
That said... I have read post after post after post after post, in thread after thread after thread, on forum after forum after forum where the words "like it is in WoW", or "it works in WoW" - or some other variation on that - used to describe why something should be done in FFXIV - including jumping. As a recent example, someone on another forum suggested SE have motorcycles in FFXIV that you can hop up and down on when you press space.. Their reason? Because they have them in WoW. That's it. No insight as to how it would improve or enhance the gameplay. WoW had it, and so, FFXIV should as well.
So, if it's all the same to you, people *do* make those comments, and when I read them, I'm going to refer to them.
Also, to state the obvious... FFXIV doesn't take place in the Mushroom Kingdom, and FFXIV is not a platformer.
You're trying to make an arguement against jumping.... you already lost soon as you posted.
That's fine. I'm "losing" according to someone or another no matter what I say, where I say it, or what side of the debate I fall on. I'm sure I'll live
ffxiv doesnt need jumping the game world isnt designed for it
I agree 100%.
If the game design required or warranted jumping, I'd be fine with it.
The game doesn't require or warrant it, so I'm fine without it.
If somewhere down the line they decided to add it and make it a useful function that added to the gameplay in a meaningful way... then that will be fine as well.
I've seen/heard/read all the arguments in favor of it, and the only ones that ring as honest are from those who say "well, I find jumping enjoyable and it would be cool to have it in the game". Every other argument is basically personal preference dressed up in hyperbole and empty declarations to sound/seem far more meaningful than they are.
The "realism" argument, the "technology" argument, the "Z-Axis" argument, the "next gen" argument, the "lazy" argument... and on and on... every one of them falls on its face under even minor scrutiny. It boils down to people wanting jumping because they want it, whether the game warrants it or not. And even that's fine. There's nothing wrong with wanting something, as long as you realize that merely wanting something doesn't entitle you to have it.
Some people can cope with that and move on as they will. Others seem to consider it some great personal offense and feel the need to let everyone else know - repeatedly - their righteous indignation at such a heinous act being commited against them; they're the ones you see repeating the same crap in every thread ("look at me! look at me! I have a grievance!") whether it's relevant or not.
FFXIV doesn't require jumping.. Erego, it doesn't have it. If people can enjoy the game despite, or even because of that, wonderful. If it's a deal breaker, then that's fine too. The game doesn't have to appeal to everyone. There are plenty of other options out there to choose from. I've been disappointed by MMOs I've followed many times, too... It didn't make me entitled to bitch or cry "fail!" because the developers dared to not design it to my liking.

So should we now be referring to the lack of jumping, swimming, etc as 'innovative"? hehe.
Still sounds like lazy developing to me.
No, we refer to them as features that aren't necessary to the design of this particular game at this particular time, just like they're not necessary in myriad other games - some quite current - that are doing just fine without them.

You know, I wonder if instead of spacebar jumping they'll add jumping the way they did in XIII. Instead of jumping whenever you want, certain terrain points will have your character jump as they approach them.

Actually, I think I would like this better.
That would be cool; I think they did something similar in X-2 as well.

Man, remember all the old RPGs that relied entirely on jumping? Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Phantasy Star, Legend of Dragoon, Lunar, Saga Frontier? Without jumping, those games would have been completely unbearable. I can't believe Square has decided to completely butcher their longstanding tradition in their franchise with such a rash decision.

That would actually be amazing.
It's definitely what they should do if they don't add a regular jump(not that I think they are anyway). It gives the game such a bigger feel when you can traverse obstacles other than just walking in a straight line.

The reason why I'm not going to respond anything on this forum until the game goes live.
You can't beat stupid.
You can though.

When I get bored in a game it's normally time to take a break....
Nope. I lost part of an oreo cookie under my spacebar, and jumping in FFXIV would give me an excuse to jostle it out.
This game will fail with out it, and my milk will go warm long before getting that damn oreo.

To me, jumping = platformer, or FPS. I don't see the use of it in MMORPGS.
