However, it is not often that people who are NOT interested in those things have a game tailor made for them. Guild Wars 2 excites me because ArenaNet is tailor-making a game for ME. EverQuest, UO, DFO, EVE, and WoW are all still online for those who want their fix in other MMO aspects. GW2 won't be any of those things, and I am thrilled that it won't.

Of the things you mention I only want one and thats healing, and maybe player politics and roleplaying but thats in every mmo.

But on topic, will Guild Wars 2 be fun? yeah. Is it worth the hype it has? Sure from what I've seen. Will it be the savior of MMO like the GW2 fans say it will be? No. It will be a fun B2P mmo like the first one was only a lot larger and it will have aspect of other MMOs while throwing in a kick ass public quest system.

Just wanted to also say that in an interview from Gamescom, they confirmed an unrevealed profession will cater to people who played Monks in Guild Wars 1. I'm not saying it's going to be a dedicated healer, but its going to have some "elements" from Monks.

The DEVs behind Guild Wars 2 didn't want to see this happen again.....thus they force everyone to have a few healing moves. Some classes like a water affinity mage has more healing/support skills than others. There are still 4 more unkown classes that could be anything (besides a healer). I understand you, but a lot of dedicated GW fans are happy over this including my brothers and I. I mean dervish and paragons had healing moves in nightfall so i never need a monk on my team and it was still hard.

Odd, I played a monk in GW.

But things like lack of Healing classes could be fixed with things like limited the number of classes but giving multilple options of what to spec in. WoW did this with Shamans, Paladins, Priest, and Druids. As a healer I want the option to do DPS and not be pigon held into doing that role, I guess what I am saying is I want options not for the trinity itself to go away.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

    Alot of kids.

Everywhere (relatively) I go where there is a mmo involved, I see posts by gw2 fanbois that instead of judging mmo's on its own merit have decided that gw2 is the greatest mmo to ever have been released, yes I say released because its the same people who who keep claiming the game is great and etc, so yes... either alot of kids or psychics involved in the hype.

Also the reason I say kids is partially because they love the angle of not having to ask their parents for money to play monthly but also because of how easily kids get hyped and tell it to a friend that questions nothing and just goes "that sounds great!" and so the train continues.

I have no doubt whatsoever from what I've observed that this is the case as far as why it is so highly hyped. So dont twist my words as I am NOT saying the game itself is aimed at only kids or is kid'ish.

I will most likely buy it myself and really hope to see that everything they are promising is as great as they make it seem or atleast close to it.

True that's also a good point an honest relationship is important.

I think one reason why the gameplay itself is very impressive is because it's very accessible, I don't mean dumbed down just accessible. I could show some footage to almost anyone mildly interested in an RPG and they'd likely be very impressed yet it still contains the core features of an mmo. Not even WoW can do that as 70% of it's players leave by level 10. For an mmo that in itself is impressive.

Of course the best thing now is not to hype this game too much but provide as much critism directly to A-Net and hope they have an extensive beta period.

Snaylor, we know you don't like GW2. You're just using the fact that you're going to play it to defend yourself from ridicule. Look if you're gonna bring up Facebook you should also understand that Star Wars is a very well known IP as well as WoW, GW2 on the other hand, is not known by the casual/general public. Ask anyone on the street which one of those three they've heard before; it would be Star Wars that comes up tops.

My point is, you can't use Facebook as a hype rating tool. You have to use the gamin public that are more in tune with what's going on in the industry and from what I can see GW2 is at the top of the hype chain. I know you want your SWTOR at the top but if they made space battles/travels more interactive and deep I'm pretty sure they'd be kicking it at the top of the hype list right now.

    This is not a game.

I kinda figured you played the monk class in GW1. That is why i understand where you are coming from. Hey if its not the game for you then its is not. Unfortunately, a lot of people who were not of the monk class hated the monk class because of the reasons i stated earlier. The Devs are not trying to make themselves into another WOW clone (look how well that turned out for WAR). I say wait till all the classes are revealed. I have played WOW, AION, WAR, and other countless pay and free2play games. I am tired of all these "trinity" style MMOs. Maybe it is because i like EVEonline because in that game there is no dedicated healer class as well.

My question to is do you like healing or do you like supporting because healing is a form of support? My brother was a paladin before the lastest WOW expansion and he used his heals to heal himself to stay alive the battle longer. My second brother was a druid and he only healed himself as well. Ins't that what GW2 is doing......giving everyone basic healing skills and some classes slightly better healing skills so that they can sustain themselves for a longer period of time

That's how they operate and they repeat this over and over again in interviews and blogs. No matter how innovative their ideas are, they are conservative in the development process, wanting to make sure that the game is polished. They've got a track record for releasing 3 full games and 1 expansion and it is safe to say that they were polished products.

At Gamescom they showed us that what they promised is actual reality, there's a reason why many of us are pretty excited for this game.

Now I would like to ask, why is that? The features sound great and the people who have played the game love it, but so do most MMOs during this phase. I think it has to do with how ArenaNet releases their information on the game. Giving it out slowly, bit by bit when its ready to be released. They seem to know that if they have 1 'space on rails' moment that many people will be turned off. Its been news after news telling us pretty much exactly what the feature is and why they put it in.

Currently, GW2 sits at 8.68 and its closest hype competitor is Rifts at 8.21. Since I'm somewhat new I was hoping to know what is the highest hype a game has reached here? And what was in second place, if you can remember. I'm wondering because GW2 seems to be carrying a ton of hype these days, its more popular than I thought it would be when I started following it, I suppose I would also like to know what drew you to GW2, if anything. For me, it was I played an enjoyed the original GW on and off for 5 years.

Go to face book and serch "Guild Wars 2" then search "Star Wars:The Old Republic". Then to compare search "World of Warcraft.". SWTOR has well over twice the amount of fans as GW2. And GW2 is still in the whole "Dreamers State" meaning anything is really possible for it. I was really hyped for this game till I found out there was no healing class.

Also look at the highest rank game, its a F2P mmo. That right there should tell you not to take MMORPG.com ranking seriously.

Facebook? Seriously?.......... Facebook fans mean what?

I personally prefer this Facebook alternative.

Yeah sorry I was kind of being a douche because I sort of understood thats what you were aiming at... and believe me I thought the videos from gamescom was pretty cool and it was nice to see that alot of the features are in the game. What I'm saying though is, how will those features work when it goes live? what kind of bugs will there be? will it actually be fun to play? I can go on with a few more questions but lets leave it at that.

I think they will pull it off and that it probably will be fun and most likely work as intended, but to claim that its definitely going to be great once its actually released... thats wishful thinking or assumptions at best right now. (Though its probably going to be a big success from a economical standpoint regardless)

Wich ties into what my initial statement was and what this thread is about, alot of kids read all about what they promise with this game, now they also have seen the videos from gamescom most likely and think that nothing could possibly go wrong and that if it has "this and that" then theres no way that it couldnt be fun. So like I said earlier thats why I believe the game is so hyped... I'm not saying it doesnt deserve the hype or that its a bad game since I said earlier, I could only make guesses...

It's funny to watch people argue how X MMO kicks the ass of Y MMO prior to being released. There is a saying that goes like ''De gustibus non disputandum" and you should also remember that it's competition which makes the developers strive for excellence and not some altruistic desire. Besides, shouldn't we focus on constructive/argumentative criticism and refrain from pointing fingers?

Now on topic (somewhat). The speculations that GW2's hype has anything to do with it being F2P/B2P does hold some truth is we were to consider the game that sits on the top of the food chain in the released games section. However, for those that followed these forums, the hype that GW2 managed to pull out is well deserved.

I for one used to be a believer and supporter of the P2P model up until GW2 showed up and I have to say the game looks much better than some of its P2P counterparts.

Lol I bring up face book fans to generally prove a point to all of the "hard core" GW2 fans that not as many people care about GW2.  I have dissed GW2 in the defense of SWTOR, making me a SWTOR fanboi and thats about it. But if you take SWTOR out of the equation I am just as hyped for this game as half of you are.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

Snaylor, we know you don't like GW2.

Ok, Most post of me dissing GW2 has been in the defense of SWTOR as I am sure most post made of you dissing SWTOR has been made in the defense of GW2. I plan on playing both. I am a SWTOR fanboi but at least I have the balls to admit it, I look at swtor with rose colored glasses. But that leaves me free to look at other MMOs without rose colored glasses, and be able to be a critic of what Anet is doing, with out being bias towards GW2 simple because I think it will be the best MMO.

Let me list a few things I don't like about GW2

No secondary professions ( I want to make my OP build DAMMIT!) But I can live without it

No Heroes I can live without heroes as well.

    ..... I think that's it....

Anyway, I'm a gamer first and foremost and I never let fanboy tinted glasses get in the way of judging games fairly. I play every game and any game and I rarely slate any game unless it deserves it (Darkfall I'm looking at you.

On a different note I want you to point me to a post where I have dissed SWTOR and where I have overhyped GW2 'cos in my opinion, I haven't. I have only made maybe one or two comments about SWTOR and they have been constructive criticisms. Things like; they should have done it this way or that way .

So why do you believe SWTOR is better than Guild Wars 2? I'm curious so that I can understand your arguments better.

I enjoy Bioware games. I liked the Star Wars universe. I like the innovations that Bioware is doing(I know you won't call them that.). I like the focus on heroics when I played it at gamecon I found that even at level 2 I felt heroic and I had fun, something that I can't really say for other MMOs.  If you like WoW you will love the hell out of the game, If you don't like WoW and Themeparks like it it will really not be your thing.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

That's... kinda sad... There are at least 1.5 million people (going by the 6million boxes sold of all the expansions put together) that played GW1 (including you) I'm pretty sure most (if not all) are interested in GW2. I know SWTOR has larger numbers than a mere 1.5mil but my point still stands that not only "hardcore" fans are interested (or are going to be interested) in GW2 and facebook numbers aren't going to reflect that.

    This is not a game.

Not really, Its the same as defending your favorite movie, plus this is the internet theres sadder.

The number are a rep of how many people are following the game. More people are following SWTOR then GW2, hence more people are hyped. I am a fan of both. I am following both games.
