Maybe it will maybe it won't... Lol I bring up face book fans to generally prove a point to all of the "hard core" GW2 fans that not as many people care about GW2. I have dissed GW2 in the defense of SWTOR, making me a SWTOR fanboi and thats about it. But if you take SWTOR out of the equation I am just as hyped for this game as half of you are.
That's... kinda sad... There are at least 1.5 million people (going by the 6million boxes sold of all the expansions put together) that played GW1 (including you) I'm pretty sure most (if not all) are interested in GW2. I know SWTOR has larger numbers than a mere 1.5mil but my point still stands that not only "hardcore" fans are interested (or are going to be interested) in GW2 and facebook numbers aren't going to reflect that.

Nike trainers don't last long, they look nice but don't expect high quality trainers with lots of longevity because they don't, they litterally cost a few dollars to make but sell for hundreds. Your quite simply buying only for the brand name when you buy those trainers.
Why am I not surprised that this thread turned from a topic about hype and how the marketing for GW2 is being handled to "I don't like GW2 and here's why" or "My game is better than your game?" Opinions about any game in this thread are irrelevant to the topic.

Maybe because that ties into other games? GW2 marketing is doing well because they bought their A game to Gamecon, the only other two MMOs worth mentioning would be Cata and SWTOR, both of which only rehashed stuff we have seen three months sooner.
It was about as impressive(The fact they won not the show itself which was awesome.) as winning the special olympics.

If you're saying that part of the reason GW's marketing is doing so well is because their competitor's are not doing as well - okay, I can see how that's relevant. "I don't like Guild Wars 2 as a game" is not relevant - and that's what I'm seeing in the more recent part of this thread. It's a discussion about marketing strategies, not game mechanics.

How does that justify arguing what game is better or just saying why you dont like the game rather then actually discussing the hype surrounding the game in a thread where that was the point?
To sort of clarify as far as what I see your answer as, is if someone had asked "whats 2+2?" and you answered "and thats why snow is white"

Seeing how the game is not out yet hype does relate to whether or not some one like GW2 or not, some one who love GW2 will give it a 10 for the sake of giving it a ten while people who hate it will give it a one for the sake of giving it one.
GW2 has the highest hype, and has had for quite some time. Its the only game I have seen that is consistently gaining hype as well. The scoreboard has changed between video releases bad news. But one thing has stayed the same, constant growth for GW2.
Now I would like to ask, why is that? The features sound great and the people who have played the game love it, but so do most MMOs during this phase. I think it has to do with how ArenaNet releases their information on the game. Giving it out slowly, bit by bit when its ready to be released. They seem to know that if they have 1 'space on rails' moment that many people will be turned off. Its been news after news telling us pretty much exactly what the feature is and why they put it in.
Currently, GW2 sits at 8.68 and its closest hype competitor is Rifts at 8.21. Since I'm somewhat new I was hoping to know what is the highest hype a game has reached here? And what was in second place, if you can remember. I'm wondering because GW2 seems to be carrying a ton of hype these days, its more popular than I thought it would be when I started following it, I suppose I would also like to know what drew you to GW2, if anything. For me, it was I played an enjoyed the original GW on and off for 5 years.
Go to face book and serch "Guild Wars 2" then search "Star Wars:The Old Republic". Then to compare search "World of Warcraft.". SWTOR has well over twice the amount of fans as GW2. And GW2 is still in the whole "Dreamers State" meaning anything is really possible for it. I was really hyped for this game till I found out there was no healing class.
Also look at the highest rank game, its a F2P mmo. That right there should tell you not to take MMORPG.com ranking seriously.
I really don't care about your opinion. To me GW2 is the game i will play and seems to be the best game ever.

The gamescon awards is useless, that is true. TOR got it twice in a row and WAR got it before, they just rate the quality of the demo, not the game itself.
But the hype is also about the fact that this is one of the few games that try something different than the old tired EQ way.
In the old way you grind through solo and dungeons until you hit max level, then you first do some harder dungeons and after that you raid. That is basically all you do except some crafting and grinding of factions.
GW2 is trying to change the concept and many veterans are tired of doing the same thing since the last 13 years or so.
But it is really GW2s PvP that should be hyped if anything, the mists sounds like the first good PvP experience since DaoC with 3 sides competing for resources.
Another reason of the hype is the fact that ANET actually knows how to code a game, too many of the later years game have been killed by ineptitude there.
Why? Because they're showing they have every intention to try and live up to every thing they talked about. It wasn't just hype that they spewed out, or gimmicks either. Whether they actually live up to it, is something else, but we know they're trying. And I think as MMO-ers that's too refreshing of an idea to give up hope on. A company that's not charging monthly, that tries to make games more fun than grindy and long (which gives them $$$). We've heard it before, but rarely have we seen an action made on them. Until now that is. That's why I think Guild Wars 2 isn't looked as "oh its just hyped crap", rather its "Yea it's hyped...but it could work."

Tor hasn't won any awards to my understand but yeah coding is probably one of A-Net's strongest points considering some of it's founders helped create battle net etc.

Not this year but 2009 and 2008 (and 2008 they just had a movie with no gameplay footage).
But yes, programming gets you rather far in a genre that has companies like SOE, Mythic, Cryptic, Funcom and the rest. Blizzard have also good programmers and Turbines are acceptable. You really have no chance of making a great MMO without it.
Everything else can be discussed and it depends a lot on personal taste but it is the main reason that Blizzard, Bioware or ANET will make the next one, no one else can code a great game.

Rewards mean nothing, i was so hyped for ToR and after i saw cartoony look, space combat, boring trinty system and that demo battle they showed us i was so disapointed on the other hand everything i heared about GW2 sounded amazing and unreal. I doubted ArenaNET could do it all, but after Gamescom and all footage i saw they got my money for sure.

Seeing how the game is not out yet hype does relate to whether or not some one like GW2 or not, some one who love GW2 will give it a 10 for the sake of giving it a ten while people who hate it will give it a one for the sake of giving it one.
I'm afraid I don't quite understand the point you are trying to make, or perhaps you've mistaken what I'm saying. The thread is about Arenanet's marketing strategy and other factors that might lead to it being the highly hyped title it currently is. If someone comes into the thread and says something like "I don't like Guild Wars's dynamic event system" (for example) - that's completely irrelevant to the topic being discussed and should be taken to another thread. That's what I was saying.
On topic - I believe two big factors for the hype are the very intuitive ideas that the dev team is putting forth for most aspects of the game, and their level of transparency. Not only do they come up with a system that seems natural and sensible to players, but with every announced mechanics, they then display those mechanics in video form, where you can actually point to the screen and see them happening.
I Believe the HYPE is because of the gameplay videos backing their manifesto video from a few days ago. Also it seems as if the PVE is pretty beefed up and i a lot of MMO players that like a deep PVE experience. Underneth it all, I think it is the promise of malking guild wars totally different from what they call and a lot of people call the "Typical" MMO style and a lot of people have been waiting for that
I think the hype is a mixture of two things really: the fact that ANet is trying to be quite revolutionary, and the fact that ANet are in-touch with what gamers want. I actually think the latter is the more significant here. MMO gamers are used to false promises and scripted videos for upcoming releases. We now have actual gameplay footage proving that their new concepts work and a design manifesto that essentially ticks a box on every major gripe that people have with modern MMOs. They're not throwing out soulless sales talk but actually discussing how flawed the current MMO model is and exactly what they're doing to change it.
Essentially we are giving them our trust and hyping the game because they're quite possibly the first major developer in years to demonstrate an awareness of the genre and a desire to finally push it forwards again.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
I really don't care about your opinion. To me GW2 is the game i will play and seems to be the best game ever.
As I you, my friend, as I you.
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

Zoom down.
And the coding did kick ass in GW.

Some of the best coders on the market + great artists + uncoventional approach and content + Great demonstration = High expectations.
I wwill surely buy GW2

Talking about official awards from the hosts of E3 and gamescom etc not magazine crap. Besides who were they up against when they won those awards?
Rewards mean nothing, i was so hyped for ToR and after i saw cartoony look, space combat, boring trinty system and that demo battle they showed us i was so disapointed on the other hand everything i heared about GW2 sounded amazing and unreal. I doubted ArenaNET could do it all, but after Gamescom and all footage i saw they got my money for sure.
