Glad that so maybe people likes it... thats said, I think there's way to much hype about the dynamic event. Personnally, I'm not interested in grinding events all the time what so ever.
You like PvP... good! I don't... so all in all, for me, the only thing this game has going for it is the fact that its B2P & I like the more realistic take on the graphics. Along with FFXIV, its refreshing. ( sick of cartoon graphics )
I'll play when I want to take a break from other things, but I'm not that hype about it.
7/10 imho ( Keep in mind that I don't like PvP much... might be the game to change my mind thought )
The reason most people focus on dynamic events is because the Gamescon demo focused on that aspect of the game. If they focused on dungeons or PvP that would have been the big buzz instead.
The main reason I want the game is for the combat and the fact that ANET actually are good with coding games, most MMOs are poorly programmed and buggy.
Dynamic events sounds fun of course but that is just one of many things.

not to mention they are some of the best game blancers out there.
Well a MMORPG is a MMORP.... game. There are fantastic games without stories, you know? Elite, Tetris, Civilization... Boardgames? All of them. The point i'm making is very simple: since the computer gaming became real popular all the hollywood media types have been trying to stuff the things they knew from their aging medium into the gaming one. Money talks and old farts try to rule the world as always. Story story story. Games are not "about" stories - they are about games. And that is where SWTOR fails. Not enough GAME in their hype.
Personally, I'm more intrigued about their 3-way World-vs-world weekly setup than dynamic events. But this just goes to show how much thought they've put into the GAME systems, all over the place. 3-way persistent PvP has shown to be the most rewarding one, for more reasons I'd care to mention here. The WH40K team, on the other hand, treats the question of the number of factions as rather inconsequential because they have an awesome "story" and it's going to be a "ride". They are set up for fail as well because they don't care about the GAME and I suspect they'd rather be directing a movie or at least a theme-park rather than a pesky MMO (which they have to do because its fashionable atm). No game design there. (Oh well we'll do a standard EQ/WOW thing with levels and shit and put a nice IP gloss over it, but hey we've got story story story and cool vehicles lol, can I get into movies now?) Soz mate, I'm a professional film director by trade and I can detect that kind of crap. If you're a painter don't push your "story" on me - I want to look at your vision rather than "story" and "I want to work with Angelina Jolie but I can't so I'm making a computer game" crap. As Sergio Leone succintly put "If ya wanna shoot, shoot, don't talk." If you want to write a novel or direct a movie, just do it and don't waste your time designing a game all the time cursing under your breath "why the fuck I have to deal with all those pesky players trying to impose their idea of fun on MY vision."
You must be a really shallow gamer if you truly think story has no place in video games, no offense meant, but I, along with many other people, happen to enjoy a good story in games. I have always loved bioware's games so the game I'm hyped about the most is SWTOR but I honestly can't wait for GW2 either and to be honest I think GW2 has the greater chance of success of the two simply because it's a B2P model rather than a P2P which means the developers don't have to worry about retention as much as initial box sales. Hype is good for initial sales but it can lead to retention problems when the game doesn't meet the hype which is what happened to AoC, WAR, etc., so for A-net the best strategy is to hype their game up but to be honest that's what worries me the most about GW2 because that means I may stop playing it a month or so after release. Then again I was never able to get into GW1 so GW2 may not be the game for me and that's why I'm wary of it but I really hope GW2 proves me wrong.
Btw a game w/o story can be fun, but they're often shallow and repetitive so I think I'll stick with games that have a storyline to keep me engaged and GW2 has also promised an interesting story so you may not like it as much as you think =/ you may want to go back to playing tetris.
Maybe I came down a bit too hard there but I still stand by my point. I'm not saying that story is irelevant and that there shouldn't be stories at all in games, especially mmos. However, a story is just one of the components of a game and it is an optional one because as mentioned not all games require a story. Ofc, if the game does have a story slant then by all means this component should be as polished and interesting as possible. However, the primary component, the foundation of ANY game is always the game mechanics, the rulesets and systems that drive the game under the hub. Without it the game is not a game, it is just a shallow husk - a wannabe movie with interactive controls that actually give you no control whatsoever.
So anyway imo the hype is warranted because finally we have a mmo team that talks about the game aspects rather than teh awesomeness of the IP or the intricacies of the story or "ooh look at our shiney graphics". That's the impression I get from Anet and I like it immensely. All the good luck to SWTOR and all and I hope they do awesomely well but their lack of enthusiasm for the core systems and mechanics of their game is telling. Maybe they are not talking about it much because they feel they are appealing to a broader audience but imo they are making a mistake in underestimating their public. We've all pretty much grown up on video games and are not afraid to talk about mechanics. Imo in this time and age the non-gaming SW fans are a much smaller audience than gaming ones and yet BW PR keeps trying to appeal to them like it is 1996 ffs. Maybe it is just that Anet's team has a smarter PR, dunno but we'll see whether the hype meter on this site turns out to be a prophetic one.

The hype is not really warranted until you play the game.
GW2 did something ToR has yet to do and thats show combat above level 8. I watched the low level gameplay of GW2 and didn't think much of it other than "Pretty Pretty." GW2 talking points seem to be, Dynamic Events and PvP, Technically WAR but better. While ToR is going for story and PvE, WoW but better.
The way I see is, if you enjoy a game with heavy story and things like raiding, ToR will be for you. If you like public quest and killing other players then play GW2. Easy as that.
Guild Wars 2 is in a "dreamers state" meaning right now you think its the best thing to come along since sliced bread but in about 6 months the hype will die down.
That and not as many people have voted for the hype like some other games.
I gave it an 8, just so you can't say troll or some shit.
You're just hoping the hype dies down so you can make yourself happy, seriously dude you're becoming pretty irritating now with all your putting up your shield (saying you rated GW2 an 8 so we don't flame you) and throwing stones. Seriously, I don't think you're needed in this discussion. You're becoming a nuisance.
Anyway, GW2 has more stuff than just Dynamic events. There's a host of other things they are adding to the game and you would be blind to think it was only dynamic events we are hyped for. If it was only dynamic events the game would appear to be shallow.
Underwater content (haven't talked more about that yet)
PvP including W v W v W (haven't talked more about that yet)
Combine that with how many factions and areas there are in the game and you are just blown away by the potential for a great amount of content. That's where my hype stems from and that also justifies a 10/10.
Snaylor stop trying to pass yourself off as a GW2 fan. Your not. It is obvious. Now go take that Charr of your avatar and get a Twi'Lek or Chiss. Either tell the truth or start talking about the OP and giving some insight other than slanders on why SWTOR is Superior.
I personally don't give a flying pig about the Dynamic event system. It is good and all Innovative aswell. The thing that I really like is the enviromental weapons. Pick up a stick = AWESOME! pick up enemies weapon = AWESOMER! SET A ROCK ON FIRE = OMG IS THE LORD INVOLVED IN THE MAKING OF THIS GAME! The only thing I think they should change is the map travel. they should make it free like in GW1. The Sylvari aswell. They are 2 humanoid compared 2 the other races in Tyria but then again I do feel like playing a plant...instead of Animalia. I really don't care about the persistance. The combat is awesome. The charr running on all fours is awesome. The 3 area dye on armour parts is awesome and expecially because it doesn't look like you need to buy the dye. The little things added to the big things are what impress me the most. Withought the big things the little things wouldn't be as good. Withought the little things the Game is boring and repetetive.
There will inevitably be things revealed in the months towards launch that people won't like much or that isn't conform their idea of a perfect gameplay mechanics.
And keep in mind, there was a high hype for other MMO's in the year before their launch the past few years too, hype and promised potential that often weren't fulfilled, so it's nothing more than reasonable to not go all out in a hype but reserve a modicum of scepticism. After all, haven't a lot of MMO gamers been burnt in the past when MMO's weren't nowhere near their expectations they had as a result from hypes?
That being said, I personally don't think that GW2 will be as much a letdown as some of those other MMO's have been, it has already shown a lot of things that is to be liked, the only question is if the rest of the items talked about can also live up to the promise.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Anet slowly let's us know unliked news. Withought saying it. They put it in sentances in interviews that you don't realise that they said it. But they do. I don't expect a moment were only bad news come out. It is already happening. Slowly like how they are slowly releasing more info. if a big amount of let down news is given. It wouldn't Kill me. I have thought of all the ways(I think) the game could be ruined but none can deter me so far.

A-Net doesn't do that at all. They generally say in no uncertain terms what will be in game and what won't be in game. One of the first major announcements of gw2 was the removal of the secondary system which they made loud and clear to prevent any misconceptions and as people would imagine there was large shit storm but most people eventually accepted and there was very few misconceptions.
Hell they follow up any major releases of information with blogs filled with questions from players to remove any misconceptions. Quite frankly A-net is one of the most frank mmo developers around. You don't see FFXIV mess ups or the huge misconceptions of swtor's space combat with most of A-Net's releases.

I am not a "fan" of the Guild Wars series as much as the Star Wars, or Warcraft series. But I am the type of fan I know Anet wants, The kind who shut up, buy their game and play it. Just because I am being cynical of the game does not mean I do not want to play it.
And I am not going to bother telling you SWTOR is better then GW2 because in your eyes its not. And Video game like every other type of media is in the eye of the beholder. You may thing GW2 is the best thing since sliced bread, thats ok because thats your opinion I may not agree with it and may try to say other wise but that does not mean I am not hyped about GW2.

Nice assumption it's not they don't care about fan feedback they welcome and are completely open to better solutions to certain gameplay mechanics e.g potions and energy management unlike another developer that doesn't tell their fans anything and pretty much does everything in secret *cough*Bioware*cough*.

That's the best reply you have given but I didn't ask why you think SWTOR is better. I really don't care. Just don't post it on a thread and bring it off topic so much again. Thank you

Its as if you want me to troll...
Bioware has the, "Wait till its ready then talk about it.". Thats all I am going to say regarding this matter.
The first thing which grabbed my attention with this game was the talk about it having dynamic content where the players can have an impact on the gameworld. I have become so bored with all of these static themepark mmos in which the only thing for players to do was to level up and progress through a linear story. It just seemed so pointless. MMOs should be more than that. So yeah the word "dynamic" stuck with me and grabbed my attention.
The other thing that REALLY sells Guildwars 2 for me is its lack of a monthly fee, This is how ALL mmos should be. Having to pay a monthly fee for a game that I have already paid full-price for is a rip-off and I love the fact that ArenaNet is being fair about its pricing method. They could have just copied all the other money grabbing companies and charged a monthly fee, knowing full well that the masses would pay for it (like Bioware have) but they didnt. Because of this they are focusing on making a good quality and enjoyable game without having to implement long boring grindy activities designed to keep people paying and playing for ages. Also as I work full-time I dont have much spare time to play mmos and therefore dont get my monies-worth with a subscription game. I will be able to pick up and play Guildwars 2 as little or as much as I like (just like any other computer game) without having to pay for a full month of game time that I dont get to use.
On top of that Guildwars 2 looks visually stunning and the gameplay videos I have seen look very fluid and action packed. Lots of multiplayer fun in an mmo which has everything all the other games have and more for a single fixed price. Meanwhile 5 year old mmos still have a monthly fee attached. Its hardly surprising this game is getting so much hype.

That's fine but don't go assuming that a company wants a shut up and buy their game and play it fans. Fans that provide the most constructive critism are the most useful.
GW2 has the highest hype, and has had for quite some time. Its the only game I have seen that is consistently gaining hype as well. The scoreboard has changed between video releases bad news. But one thing has stayed the same, constant growth for GW2.
Now I would like to ask, why is that? The features sound great and the people who have played the game love it, but so do most MMOs during this phase. I think it has to do with how ArenaNet releases their information on the game. Giving it out slowly, bit by bit when its ready to be released. They seem to know that if they have 1 'space on rails' moment that many people will be turned off. Its been news after news telling us pretty much exactly what the feature is and why they put it in.
Currently, GW2 sits at 8.68 and its closest hype competitor is Rifts at 8.21. Since I'm somewhat new I was hoping to know what is the highest hype a game has reached here? And what was in second place, if you can remember. I'm wondering because GW2 seems to be carrying a ton of hype these days, its more popular than I thought it would be when I started following it, I suppose I would also like to know what drew you to GW2, if anything. For me, it was I played an enjoyed the original GW on and off for 5 years.
I think the hype is way too high. People are in for a bad surprise if they think it's gonna live up to the hype displayed on the hype meter. The users of this website are crazy when they wonder why a super-hyped game suddenly gets tonnes of bashers and "haters." It's a reaction to the way overblown hype. Just look at what happened to Star Wars The Old Republic. It was top of the hype meter for such a long time, then suddenly people decided they didn't like it anymore.
GW2 will come tumbling down just like SWTOR did, make my words. Especially since the devs seem to be promising stuff that will either be impossible or super difficult. There will be design choices that'll eventually piss people off when they see the light of day.
care to give backing to that? is it just because we will "feel like it"? because the only proof you have(not proof at all btw) is that it happened to SW:TOR (which happened becasue it desererved it), because people suddenly "felt like it"
Because the hype is way out of proportion. People are hyping this game and saying that it's the best thing since sliced bread, that's fine except that this game will have flaws (all games do,) there will be aspects of this game that people will be dissapointed in. People are going to react negatively to the hype because it's not realistic, it's not allowing the game to have any flaws or mistakes, and that's a dangerous combination. It's going to lead to bitter dissapointment and backlash.
This is the only site I frequent where GW2 is being hyped so heavily. No game can live up to the amount of hype being put into GW2 here.

I think GW2 appears to be the only mmo worth a hype meter rating of >8.50
So it stands out for good reason imo.
Why do I care or think anything should be done about ppl being "overhyped"? I don't and why should I?

No game can live up to the amount of hype being put into GW2 here.
im sorry but that does not really act to back anything up. you are jsut circleign aroudn your idea that it cant be as good as people say becasue it wont. thats just plain stupid, no one is expecting it to be the most amazeign thing ever, but it is the best thing we have had in a long time.
GW2 has the highest hype, and has had for quite some time. Its the only game I have seen that is consistently gaining hype as well. The scoreboard has changed between video releases bad news. But one thing has stayed the same, constant growth for GW2.

Five or six months down the road Anet will release info that many will find unappealing. They already did this for people like me. And it will continue to happen. People will hear things they do not like, only they do not go onto forums and talk about it. They just stop following the game.

Ah, I knew it was a matter of time before you commented.
Won't bother saying much other than I plan to play the game.
According to the hype around this game, Anet will have to release the greatest game ever that will never be eclipsed by anything, not take ideas from anyone and have something for everyone. The game might be awesome but the hype around is saying its going to be something beyond awesome that we've never seen before. Not a single thing released about the game suggests that it will be. That is the point being made that the fanbois are missing. Ill know if I'm playing the day before it releases.

Normally Hype means interest that has been generated by the company, developers, and PR firms for a company but on this site hype also means player interest and that player interest can vary from the very knowledgeable and informed to the baseless nerd rage that we can see from time to time.
The trick for any company is to actually have a decent product coming to market and then to manage the flow of information to ramp up interest in the product to have a good launch and then let the product do most of the talking from then on. Where hype has gotten a bad name of late in the MMO market is from the extreme enthusiasm that they have generated in products that failed to deliver what had been promised or what was assumed to have been promised.
Right now for me it seems like GW2 is doing a good job of maintaining the balance between enthusiasm and over promotion. If they deliver what they have promoted then they will do well.
I really don't know if they did well to show us, mmorpg players so much from the game even thou we won't play it so soon. The hype is great but as quick as it came, as quick it will vanish. A-net guys will have a hard time keeping players interested all the time into this game, especially when we even don't know, when it gets out.
Comments
The reason most people focus on dynamic events is because the Gamescon demo focused on that aspect of the game. If they focused on dungeons or PvP that would have been the big buzz instead.
The main reason I want the game is for the combat and the fact that ANET actually are good with coding games, most MMOs are poorly programmed and buggy.
Dynamic events sounds fun of course but that is just one of many things.
not to mention they are some of the best game blancers out there.
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
Let me just list a few things here;
Out of combat activities including Bar brawls
Personal storyline
Underwater content (haven't talked more about that yet)
PvP including W v W v W (haven't talked more about that yet)
Combine that with how many factions and areas there are in the game and you are just blown away by the potential for a great amount of content. That's where my hype stems from and that also justifies a 10/10.
This is not a game.
Withought the little things the Game is boring and repetetive.

i think Snaylor has a point though.

I ment the small things. Oh I forgot about the Blog.....xD Thanks for reminding me about it. I need 2 go check it.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
Because the hype is way out of proportion. People are hyping this game and saying that it's the best thing since sliced bread, that's fine except that this game will have flaws (all games do,) there will be aspects of this game that people will be dissapointed in. I think GW2 appears to be the only mmo worth a hype meter rating of >8.50
So it stands out for good reason imo.
Why do I care or think anything should be done about ppl being "overhyped"? I don't and why should I?
