My opinion is that the guild leader was into drama.
All he had to do was say "hey, I know it was a movie but we're trying not to have expletives in guild chat". Given that it was a move it seems extreme but if that's how he wants it then that's how he wants it.
He didn't need to kick the op. It was all about "drama".
These types of people are poison in my book so better not to be a part of it.

I cant imagine why youd want to join a guild that doesnt allow swearing...
it keeps people from talkign lines of swears all at a time. which is annoying and most people swear just for take sake of swearign which is not cool.
So what?
As long as they arent attacking other guildies, why does it matter.
Cmon we live in the real world, and in the real world, people swear.

Sounds like your mistake for joining an uptight guild that probably blind invites everyone within their visual field.
Swear word policies are idiotic.
Guilds that blind invite people are usually big jokes.
You joined a guild that probably blind invited you, and had a swear word policy. Yea...
This.
I've had a much happier time in MMOs since I instituted a strict no-join policy regarding guilds with swear word policies, guilds who claim to be family friendly, and of course, the dreaded blind invite guilds.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

what do you think about this. you are playing a game and you mention a movies name that has the mildest wear it it ever. "im going to solo this and beat them all up like kickass did"
do you beleive that is kick worhty? mentioning a movie like that is really that bad? i mean if its really so bad then you must never take your kid anywhere.
No, even in an extremely hard RP guild that shouldn't lead to more than a warning. No one are in full RP 100% of the time anyways (well, close to no one).
A Chuck Norris joke however deserves a ban, as do mentioning anything with Adam Sandler in it...

I have a few questions for you.
1) Did you/Do you go go to some catholic school?
2) Do you attend and How often do you attend social funtions and if so, what kinds?
Perhaps they were a guild of arses who just didn't like you so they used that one mildly annoying statement as grounds to expel you. Maybe you should find a better guild...
The rules is the rules. I agree that kickass is not what I would put on my list of the 7 words you can't say on TV (Old George Carlin routine) nor do I consider it a cuss word BUT if your old guild had a rule then the GM might have thought saying the name of the movie was a loop hole to the rule, so he stepped up and nipped it in the bud.

And in the real world some people know the time or place.
Take it from me, when I was in high school I had the mouth of a sailor (to use a phrase). worked on a construction crew to make money for college. That experience tipped my language over the edge in the worst way.
Then one day I actually listened to myself and realized that if I was ever going to have people take me seriously I was going to have to be mindful of how I spoke.
So sure, people swear. But depending on which circles you run in there are expectations of behavior. and if you are an adult working in a job that doesn't put up with swearing then you don't swear. end of subject.
If you are working in a job where swearing is part of every day life then you swear. It is what it is.
It's people who can't understand the time or place or who don't have any social graces or who just can't control themselves who are the issue.
So yeah, people swear. I still swear. But I don't lace every sentence with expletives as it doesn't sound educated (and I am actually educated like many of you) people don't take me seriously in certain circles if I sound like a slur factory, and I understand "time and place".
If one can't actually speak in a manner fitting to the situation then that is an issue.

I've been fortunate to, mostly, be part of great guilds. However, I did once join a guild with a drama-addict guild leader.
He would go on and on about how drama free his guild was, and how he took it so seriously to nip drama in the bud before it could take root. However, the reality was daily drama... all of it coming straight from that same GL. He'd kick players, even long time players, on a whim for the slightest (often nonexistent) infraction. I was new, and I didn't really know anyone well, so I kept my mouth shut. Really I knew I'd move on soon enough, after a good look on the inside, but I didn't have anywhere better to go just yet.
Anyway, one player - really nice guy - had his 15 year old nephew invited. Everyone knew the kids age, from the GL on down. And the kid was quiet, respectful and a fairly decent player. Well, a day or two later this GL goes into one of his daily flameouts and boots the kid, as a "precaution" because "15 year olds cause drama". Mind you he (the kid) wasn't even connected, nor was his uncle.
Well, this bothered me and an hour or so later I posted on the guild forums. It was a public post, in general discussion, a decision I made deliberately as I already knew what the response would be and I wanted the exchange to be in public. I calmly stated that the kicking of this kid was highly disrespectful not only to him, but to his uncle, and that from my perspective there not only was no drama to justify the kick but there had been no drama whatsoever in the guild at all to justify any of the kicks I had witnessed.
I was myself shortly kicked, mercilessly attacked as a source of guild drama (by the GL) and chased/harassed across Azeroth for the next couple days.
So yes, GL's can be among the BIGGEST sources of drama in a guild. And while I don't know the actual facts behind the OP's situation, and he may have been responsible in some undisclosed way, it seems just as possible that the GL was cut from the same cloth as the one I experienced.
For filters to work the word in question had to be said in text chat rather than in voice chat. If it had to be typed then it was done with forethought and on purpose. The slip can and does happen in voice chat with open mic however.
When I ran my guild in WoW, I had one very simple rule: whine about stuff like language and ur out, lol. I mean really, kickass is THAT bad? WTF?!?! I would almost want to petition a GM to get parental controls placed on that user since WoW is apparently too extreme, lol.
what do you think about this. you are playing a game and you mention a movies name that has the mildest wear it it ever. "im going to solo this and beat them all up like kickass did"
do you beleive that is kick worhty? mentioning a movie like that is really that bad? i mean if its really so bad then you must never take your kid anywhere.
The only question I have is why would you want to be in a guild that you have such a fundamental disagreement with on behaviour? Obviously the guild leader wants a G rated guild channel..perhaps PG? The purpose of a guild is to bring like minded people together with which to enjoy a game and or games that you might not otherwise be able to accomplish with pick up groups and random chance meetings and interactions with the general game population.
For some that means hard core raiding, others hard core pvp, some its the ability to curse like a sailor and yet others its to be shielded from any cursing at all. Rather than complain about what a guild wont let you do....find one that allready does the things you enjoy doing such as talking about a movie that has a title which is a curseword of sorts.
There is no right or wrong in this situation other than you want to do one set of things and the guild does not want some of the things you want to do. Believe or not there are still parents out there who care and raise their children with values and morals and do not let them watch R rated movies or even PG movies if they are too young. They even make sure they go to schools and interact with other children who are raised the same way.
We live most of our lives as adults with the responsibilities of adulthood....some of us just want to let our children just be children for the few years that is possible. They will be bombarded with adult things soon enough.
I would've kicked you too if you purposely swore. Movie or not. They obviously had children playing in the guild and wanted to keep it swear word free.
I would've kicked you too if you purposely swore. Movie or not. They obviously had children playing in the guild and wanted to keep it swear word free.
So the kids could then grow up and hate words like their parents?
Hate to see what the guild leader would do to someone if he asked their real name and they replied "Dick".
-Letting Derek Smart work on your game is like letting Osama bin Laden work in the White House. Something will burn.- -And on the 8th day, man created God.-

i know it would be easy to lie. but then why woudl i even post this. im not sure why i would lie.
This is the Internet. It would be extremely foolish of us to not consider it a good chance that you are lying.
If I believed everything some stranger on the net told me, I would be either extremely rich with a gigantic penis or completely broke. Plus my WoW account would have been banned twenty times a week.
iow, you dont trust anythign becasue ot the people who want money were lying. so when the guy who really does not care about your opinion about his situation comes then he must be lying too? the only reason i kept going on is becasue peopel were asking, and i wanted to make clarifactions. but then again that was another mistake i made.
You came here looking for sympathy and support. On the internet that is easy and cheap. In all forms of media and all walks of life people will lie to get sympathy and it happens all the time on the internet.
So you come here and post a tale of how you were kicked out of a guild for something stupid. I could give you my sympathy which might make you feel good but is utterly meaningless. If the guild officer who kicked you then came here and told a sad story about the punk kid who he had to kick out of the guild and who was now badmouthing him, I could give him the same amount of sympathy and that too would be utterly meaningless.
I freely admit that I am an internet cynic which is because people on the internet lie all the time. It actually becomes morally wrong to believe everything a stranger says because it makes you an accomplice to the fraud. So in order for me to believe a story I read on the internet the writer has to have earned my trust. I consider it insulting if someone on the internet insists that I believe them because 'they have no reason to lie'. They have a ton of reasons to lie, many of them actually rather trivial. Also trying to make me feel guilty or trying to appeal to my emotions is only going to make me disbelieve that person even more since they seem to lack the facts to back their story up.
Also, you obviously care very much about people's opinion about this because you keep replying and defending yourself. If I do not care about what people are saying in a thread, I stop posting in it. More importantly if you really do not care how people will respond to a story of what happened to you in a game, then do not make a thread about it. If you do, do not be suprised that people will disect it for validity since that is the only way they can make sure that the story is worth actually caring about.
