UO - Confession... I didn't play it. When it came out I went "$#*!.. I'm not paying MONTHLY for a game!!" Didn't see the writing on the wall. It still deserves a top 3 vote from me though.
SWG Pre-CU - This one finally roped me in.
Lotro - Founder... now I'm back with f2p until next year
These are my 3 favorites, with probably Vanguard coming in a close 4th. Tibia is on the list for merely being my first mmo and the community it had at the time. Dofus is still my favorite due to its pretty unique style. WoW would probably be number 1 but I quit after 1 year due (played on day 1) to it consuming far to much of my time and have never even touched nor looked at anything WoW since. WoW was the first time a game actually scared me due to how much I was enthralled within the world.
Im in an eternal quest to find a replacement for UO that has a decent population, sadly As the days go on I think the chances of that happen lessen, on the bright side GW2 is next year. (If anyone has a game like UO that has a fair pop tell me, I know about Darkfall and Mortal but Ive heard their populations are very low)
City of Heroes: My first love. This game was so interesting when it was first released. However, I've been growing steadily dissatisfied with the game ever since City of Villains was released.
Classic WoW: I feel the original WoW did a lot of things right. Maybe it was because it was new and shiny, but I found my first year or so in Azeroth to be extremely immersive and one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.
Pre-MoM LotRO: This game does so much right. It's a shame that Jeffrey Steefel is running the show. I really hate the direction he's pushed the game in ever since MoM.
These are the games that brought me the most fun for my money and i consider being the most inovative. Actually, its scary how litle cred CoH gets, they were first with so many inovations that most mainstream MMOs use.
I actually have two lists, because the games on the actual top three are no longer with us.
Shadowbane
Earth & Beyond
Auto Assault
No lie, those would be my top three games. All three offered something that I have not found in other games, and that leaves me somewhat disappointed overall with the MMORPG genre.
As to the second list, this would be games still in production.
World of Warcraft
City of Heroes
EVE Online
However, it is important to note that I believe all three of these games took a turn for the worse during 2005-2006. They are not as good as they were.
These lists were made with an attempt to ignore the nostalgia factor, which would have included games such as Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, and Anarchy Online. While they are good games, great games, in their own right... they would not quite fit my top three lists in either category - but are obviously in my top ten.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!

RF Online - Only cause of the community at the time. Perfect mix of everything yet also close due to its small size.

In no particular order...

#1 DAoC
#2 SWG (Pre-NGE)
Other MMOs I found too simplistic and meaningless (not a big fan of pointless gear grind for the sake of having *that* item)
