Makes me sad to see so many people thinking WoW is worthy of being "great", when it, after 5 years, still doesn't have many of the features that were standard 10 years ago. Pathetic crafting system and player econ, no player housing, no large scale PvE or PvP scenarios, shame.
Judging from this pole, maybe some devs should wake up and start working on DAoC 2... though knowing Mythic they'd botch it worse than they botched Camelot.
Nice of you to take the time to tally everything up for us Cold Dog. Thanks, it was interesting.
And I noticed a fairly new member in this thread calling himself Del Cabon. If you are the (legendary) Del Cabon from AC1, I remember hearing and reading about you. And seeing you dash by one time ingame carrying a very sweet looking weapon - a sword if I remember correctly.
And I only took the games I knew for sure. The rest of the games have very low numbers, so they won't influence that much anyway (they would generally count towards themepark percentage, is my guess, but will only influence maybe 1%).
The people actually on gaming boards are the most dedicated. That means, that the percentages will be biased. I bet, that if you included the casual players, you will see nowhere near that percentage.
Given that left-hand mouse is almost impossible to get of good quality, even though 1/7th of the entire human population is lefthanded (~15%), I am not surprised at all to see, that no mainstream gaming companies are making sandboxes.
By that same logic, since people feel their is no 'quality' sandbox that is AAA, a company could stand to gain a good share of the market , and not compete with all the other AAA themeparks...So it would be more attractive, due to less quality competition!
Best game ever with great pve and pvp none have ever been able to step up and claim the throne.
2: LOTRO
Great pve game where the world simply makes you wanna come back for more.
3:
World of Warcraft:
Well made game up to and including TBC exp after that it got dumped down to suit the clueless people and making everything way to easy, blizzard needs to move stupid people away from Warcraft and channel them into Diablo 3 and make WoW a challinging game again with 1 million times more focus on "WWWWWAAAAAAAARRRRRRR" between the horde and alliance.
If you want to choose only 3 of your TOP favorite MMOs of all time what would they be?
1) Everquest
2) Everquest
3) Everquest
No other MMORPG has ever made me lose my job, Gf's, and kept me obsessed and insanely addicted as the Original EQ did.. In a way, I'm glad every other MMORPG that's come out since then fell short of my expectations because I'd probably be homeless and or wouldn't have a life outside the virtual game world

I played like crazy for a while when I was in university (warcraft 2) and I got bad grades because of it but I never lost a job because of playing games.
Dark Age of Camelot makes the top of the list for certain. I think they ruined the game with the absurd pve campfest in Trials of Atlantis, but prior to that, the concept that was the game with the original release and Shrouded Isles were easily the most fun I have had online before or since.
World of Warcraft, while I mock it at times, is easily on the list as well. All around a great game. Sure it has its problems, what game doesn't?
I suppose Everquest would get the third spot, for its time, it was a great game. And the first MMO I played so it gets bonus points for that.
1) DAOC - especially before TOA (although I was one of the odd ones who didn't mind it - it did mess up balance), before NF! (I REALLY miss relic defenses, and definately miss Docoloth's HUGE relic raids on Guin) and PLEASE - before new(crap)Archery )
1. SWG (yes, before the NGE/CU nightmares). I'll be honest here...this was my first MMO...so that could have added a few bonus points here....
2. Eve Online (This will fall off ths list the next time I get jumped in "friendly" territory but will return a few weeks later when I'm done pouting...I admit, no other game can ruin my day)
3. Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Go ahead and hate. I'm a geek for MMO's with depth. I thought about leaving this game off of the list since it was such a disapointment at launch...and really for the first year or so of it's existence...but crafting was great, diplomacy really grew on me and I love the EQ type of combat.
Could have made the list:
WoW...I played in their beta way back when...I find myself popping back into this game for a few months here and there. The PVP and raiding are, at times, fun:)
DAOC...this game had a major influence on many MMO's to follow.
Amazing how many people have UO as one of their Top 3.
Not really, was one of the first for a lot of folks:) Stii amazes me really, how much they got right way back then that it seems a lot of the newer games struggle to find.
Housing, fishing, mining, crafting, treasure hunting, dungeons, skill gain on use of skills, Taming..for its time it was heck of a game:P If they could of come up with a way to tame the ganking of da care bears and newbs , without the world split, would not of taken such a hit i think too.

and then - in no order....
LOTRO - the story line
WoW - I like to raid
EQ1, AO, UO
Still sub to two of them,
I love some of the features newer games have brought, but they seem to have forgotten what made/makes theese older games great
Amazing how many people have UO as one of their Top 3.

Oh well back on topic:P
E&B
UO
Not sure lot of em kinda tie for third to me.
My top three is a sad testament to the inept devs associated with mmo's. SWG,WOW, and LOTRO.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
