I was referring directly to the complete overhaul of every old zone and changing every single quest in the game from 1-60. Nothing has ever been attempted on this scale in an MMORPG with an expansion.
Something on this scale has never been attempted. Period.
So uh... I think you were trying to say something...
Every single? Perhaps not every single...but LOTRO comes to mind. Even DDO changed.
Scale though, no - not the scale - the idea...again, it is Blizzard - nothing new.
Yes, every single.
DDO and LotRO went F2P. Thanks for playing though.
Not sure what F2P has to do with anything that you said nor that I said...
...besides, changing 1-60 does what again for the level 80s in WoW? I mean, that was my point - that it does as much for level 80s in WoW as GR's new 1-20 area does for 50s in CoX. I believe I even said that, no? You countered that...where? Oh yeah, you did not... but yes, thanks for playing - good game - better luck next time.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

This is actually a very good question. I havnt followd what all Cata will bring I just play (with breaks now and then) and enjoy the game and playing with friends, many of which i made ingame and have known since launch or thereabouts. I do think the 1-60 change will be good for the low level areas but havnt really heard of anything "cataclysmic" for the 80's to do.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.

Well, until somebody chips in back on the original topic - I suppose I will at least answer this.
Yes, I referred to alt-itis as a disease that games that lack a proper end game force upon their players. That is pretty close to what I said when I stated it previously...not far back...this very thread.
...so again, what does a redone 1-60 zone offer for level 80 characters?

Oh, you think there is something inherently wrong with rolling alts. You view it as a disease.

There are still things being added for that 80-85 span, dealing with the repurcussions of what transpired, and taking characters further along the path of power they are on. Some of the things were dropped though. Will be interesting to see if any of it shows up in patches or content additions between this and the next paid expansion.

Or maybe some just like to roll different alts for fun and profit. I agree with you that WotLK's End Game environment is dull now, compared to what it was in BC or WotLK. It became clear when Ghostcrawler suggested to run ICC with your alts should you run out of raiding content on your main. But a MMORPG such as WoW is about the journey too!

I disagree. I think it's fun.
Fair enough if you enjoy making alts (I personally do not), but if a game has loads of players making alts it can be indicative of a limited or poorly done end game. EVE is a good exception though.

I have around 23 characters or so in WoW. Admittedly, I only have 4 80s. I do not enjoy the other classes enough to get past that level 60 barrier for most of them. It is not about the content. It is about the classes. I just do not enjoy them. I have a tendency to delete toons once they get into their 40s. I have been tempted to roll a Lock of every race though...
I have 75 characters in CoX. I do not have a single level 50. I have too many freaking alts to have gotten to 50. Though, I am currently to CoX and tentatively working a toon to 50 (not like 10 of those alts have not appeared, gotten to 20 and been deleted repeatedly since GR came out - lol) in preparation for the Alpha Slot.
But still... neither the new 1-20 in CoX nor the new 1-60 in WoW do anything for the 50 or the 80...
In fact, the new 1-60 zone for Cata will not even require the purchase of Cata if the old information is still correct, no? So just what are the people paying $40-80 getting then?
edit: It is funny if you think about it a moment, though I hate it being in this thread. Do you want to experience the new zones in WoW? You do not need to buy Cataclysm. You do not need to buy Wrath of the Lich King. You do not need to buy Burning Crusade. You just need to grab a copy of WoW out of the discount bin...
...the zone overhaul comes with patch 4.0.3 before the launch of Cataclysm.

A new mini pet?
To be fair, they have added post 80 zones, just like any other expansion. Now whether those areas are as big as the ones in TBC or Northrend, I suppose a beta player could answer that. Now if they cut content at post 80 in order to implement the new stuff in 1-60 you might have a point.

I have to agree with you there, especially about Path of the Titans. I was actually excited about that. When they cut it, it pretty much killed my excitement for the expansion. However, I don't think they were cut because they decided to revamp the 1-60 experience do you?

The reason why it took so long is that they put a complete new level 1-60 with new zones and replaced the old 3000 quests ... on top of the usual content for a new expansion.
In fact there will mere more Raids at launch (4 in total) and 9 heroics of which 2 are Deadmines (completely redone with Ogres now) and Shadowfang.
The new races, a new world profession Archeology and 8 new zones past level 80. 2 new BG's and a new world PvP zone like Wintergrasp. And Guild achievements.

Huh? I am not even fully aware of everything that Cata brings to the table. The last of my RL friends stopped playing months ago.
WOW was my first MMORPG. I started playing a few days after launch, and I left shortly after BGs were introduced. I could see that the direction Blizzard was taking the game was not my cup of tea. I do however, have fond memories of my time in WOW.
I merely follow the games progress (in a mild way) as I'm curious to see how things pan out with the king of the Genre. Maybe you have me confused with another poster?

I don't know if you read this, but WoW is introducing a bunch of zones, dungeons and raids for characters level 80+.
In WoW, I had a single character until he reached 60. Then between raiding MC et al, I had nothing to do - so I started making alts. I took that character to 70...faced the same issue. Took two more characters to 70, oddly enough from 1-70...faced the same issues. Created more alts. I took that original character to 80...faced the same issues. Took the other two 70s to 80. Decided why not and made a DK, taking him to 80. Again, the same issues - I had nothing to do but create more alts.
That is very different to my situation with CoX. My problem there is that I cannot make the character that I want. I do not like the character creation. Yet at times it is fun just to go WHAM! POW! to work out some tension.
The obvious thing here would be that I am addicted to MMORPGs...that I will suffer the negative aspects of the game as long as I can feed my need for that timesink of oblivion...lol, where is that thread about whether the guy should quit or not?
Though, in relating this all to the original thread - the change in talent trees concerns me because I might actually be able to accumulate some gold in the game if I go back this week as planned. I spent fortunes on constantly respec'ing my guys to try out the various builds and how I wanted to play. With that no longer being an option...could be interesting.

They would have had the expansion out 6 months ago.
What Blizzard did - redesigning the complete basic Vanilaa Wow - went way over their heads.
And so the 1.5 year cycle of Wotlk had to be stretched into 2 years.
Simple. But the content of post 80+ is certainly there (I am in Beta).

Hey, speaking of WG... did they ever do anything about the ability for opposing sides to take out the cannons at the start?

The canons only appear at the start of the Siege battle. First he castle is restored in its orginal state. Doors are closed. and only then the canons appear.

On topic !: Screw the old talent system and trees.
I just won a one on one fight with my holy paladin against a DK level 264 gear. Earlier this evening against a rogue.
This simply was not possible before the new talents.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I see : you follow it on these hate boards.
So I guess you are one of those guys stating Wow has no massive world PvP while actually you never set foot in Wintergrasp. etc... Apply the same for all those features.
Good to know.
If they did not redo the 1-60 experience... what could have they done for the 80-85 experience? The 1-60 experience is not even part of Cata. It is patch 4.0.3 before Cata even launches...

The same to you: I recommend you play the game before posting BS in forums next time.
And by play I actually mean play not try and fiddle around.

Changes were made in patch 3.3.
